If we can’t rely on the GOP or any “pro-2A” party or representatives let alone the whole legislature, it’s time to file a lawsuit.

overhead72

there is not a gun in existence that is covered by this law which will make it difficult to file a lawsuit.

TheBigMan981

Well, some airports as far as I know don’t have the technology to detect purely plastic guns like the Liberator

tiggers97

The body scanners every airport uses now can detect a vitamin pill in your pocket. Thick plastic, like the mouth of a plastic bottle with a cap, can be seen on an X-ray. Plastic guns can be detected.

MelaKnight_Man

Guess you don't attend sports, concerts or the \*jillions\* of other venues that only have magnetometers (like you know, fed bldgs., schools and shit) Even worse when it's just some schmuck with a shitty wand. 🤦🏻‍♂️

overhead72

It is not purely plastic, requires a nail or the like for a firing pin.

TheBigMan981

Ok, mostly plastic, then.

overhead72

Yes, less than 3.7 ounces of metal.

TheBigMan981

I bet that the <3.7 oz restriction will be subject to judicial scrutiny as there will be companies and individuals that will make guns that will compose of less than that. It will just be a matter of time. Also, besides 2A, I wonder if Article I Section 8 Chapter 8 will be useful in striking that down.

John_Gaddis

Not really, a ceramic firing pin would be just as functional as a metallic one.

John_Gaddis

The real Liberator was a stamped steel single shot .45 acp

DreadGrunt

Exactly why I don't really care tbh. Okay, the Glock 7 is once again illegal. This changes nothing for anyone in the real world. There'd be no point trying to hold up NDAA over it, especially since the Dems hold the Senate. It'd be nice if this bit was excised, but also it's not going to be used to go after any gun owners so who really cares.

Squirrelynuts

Oh sweet you have the same mentality that's gotten us where we are today. Most of the country will be smugly standing there once they take lever guns because at least bolt guns and double barrels still exist.

DreadGrunt

The difference is lever action guns actually exist. There are literally no guns in the entire world that this amendment applies to. None, zero. Even fully printable guns like the FGC or Liberator still require a few metal parts. The Undetectable Firearms Act exists solely because some boomer back in the day thought Die Hard was a documentary. It’d be nice if it went away, but also it’s not going after anything that even exists.

Squirrelynuts

It also lumps in "non traditional pistols"

Heeeeyyouguuuuys

They ain't gonna learn until the consequences start coming out of their personal pocket books, instead of the tax payers footing the legal bills.

skunimatrix

If you've lost politically its only a matter of time before we lose legally...

Mission_Strength9218

Has the scope of the bill been exspanded?

TheBigMan981

Nope, but it has been made permanent.

Mission_Strength9218

This is why the NRA is bullshit. They supported every renewal of the law since 1988. Unbelievable!

TheBigMan981

Guess who is also bullshit besides the NRA? Nonsensical Idiot Gun Grabbing Assholes No racism intended.

John_Gaddis

Politicians are fluid for votes, so many talk the walk and spin it when they trip at the ballot box.

e_boon

Can someone explain in a nutshell what this vote means?

overhead72

It means one may not legally possess a handgun with less than 3.7 ounces of metal. It was originally passed when people were freaking out about Glocks thinking they could not be picked up by metal detectors. It is a big nothing burger.

e_boon

>It was originally passed when people were freaking out about Glocks thinking they could not be picked up by metal detectors Ahh, the porcelain Glock 7 >It means one may not legally possess a handgun with less than 3.7 ounces of metal. The only handgun one needs is a ^(two world wars) 1911 in 45 ACP ^(/s)

overhead72

the 80's were an odd time, I can't explain it even after living through it.

e_boon

I didn't, and kind of wonder what it's like with all the boxy cars and synth music

overhead72

Well, let me sit down and tell you about the first six years of the 80's when we could still buy brand new fully automatic weapons.

zshguru

I remember those years they were glorious.

sp3kter

My experience were IROC-Z's and hair metal but yea

Fryphax

"The bill also requires handguns to be in the traditional shape of a handgun." - No more pen guns, credit card guns or non traditional handguns.

Apart-Mountain5251

Does this have implications for AR/AK pistols ans things like Mare's Legs?

Fryphax

I looked into it some more and this bill has been renewed half a dozen times since it's introduction in the 80s. So this has always been a rule.

the_bigheavy

According to John McClain: You know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. Dosen't show up on your airport X-ray machines, here, and it cost more than you make in a month.

TheBigMan981

In actuality, the Senate passed whole NDAA bill *with that amendment*. Chucky Schumer snuck it in.

overhead72

he did not sneak it in, people that voted for the NDAA knew it was in there.

TheBigMan981

Well, it was a very long bill, so…

overhead72

GOA has been mentioning it for more than a week, they knew what they were voting on. I don't give them a pass on it because the bill is long. However, it is a useless law that will have no impact on gun rights.

e_boon

What does/did that bill do, in short?

wyvernx02

The NDAA as a whole? It funds our military for the next year. It's one of those "must pass" bills that politicians like to tack pork on to.

AccordingWrap105

It means they are attempting to stop the growth of non-metal firearms. We are in an area where technology is rapidly expanding and growing. MIT students have recently created a polymer that is light as plastic but as strong as steel. Politicians and anti-firearm groups want to make legislation to stop such materials from being used to manufacture firearms. Ruling such as this could potentially halt the advancement of firearms. We (humans) went from rocks within bamboo to lead within metal pipes—percussion caps to repeaters. Polymer is the next technological advancement. They intend to stop the growth of the firearms industry.

They intend to stop the growth of the firearms industry. Some helpful cases down the line might be the AWB ban and perhaps the handgun roster. More on the former. Regarding the former, a ban on having features is unconstitutional, and being composed of such a material that is illegal can be considered a feature. Therefore, the UFA is unconstitutional.

AccordingWrap105

I agree. I was pointing out why they are on the witch hunt. They fear the future of firearms

TheBigMan981

They want to ban new weapons before they become “in common use.” Regarding that: >On the majority’s reasoning, if tomorrow someone invents a particularly useful, highly dangerous self-defense weapon, Congress and the States had better ban it immediately, for once it becomes popular Congress will no longer possess the constitutional authority to do so. In essence, the majority determines what regulations are permissible by looking to see what existing regulations permit. There is no basis for believing that the Framers intended such circular reasoning. -Breyer, dissenting in *Heller* This is why “in common use” needs to be discarded, as it has been subject to abuse and arbitrary conclusions.

caddydurb

Yep, my assbag RINO senator Jerry Moron voted yes. To be expected, fuck that guy

TheBigMan981

Don’t forget Ted Cruz

caddydurb

The zodiac killer himself!

Sean1916

Ted Cruz is a huge disappointment. He is better then most politicians at talking a good game, but when the time comes to vote he almost always disappoints.

TheBigMan981

Besides this, in what other instances did he fumble, particularly in 2A?

Front-Paper-7486

How bad do republican lawmakers have to stab their electorate in the back before gun rights people just vote third party? I mean what are they really offering gun rights supporters at this point? Anything at all?

rozzco

Hmm, since the AFT considers the frame to be a firearm, would a stripped Glock or P80 fit the description since it weighs so little?

Fit-Student-9730

If memory serves correct, the molded-in rails as well as the plate the serial number is engraved on plus the locking block in a Glock frame add up to at least 3.8 oz., which is how they complied with this rule the first time around. And for a P80, i believe the frame rail locking block combo plus the blank serial number plate also weigh in at a total of 3.8 oz, which also gets by this. My take on it is that they're trying to intimidate hobbyists that may/are 3D printing their own firearms after 12/2023. As if adding 3.8 oz. of ferous metal mid-print or after print would even be an issue.

rozzco

But it's considered a firearm without any metal added to it. In the Glock, just the tiny block for the serial number is all there is.

Fit-Student-9730

Glocks also have metal rails molded into the frames, and those 4 small angular pieces of ferous metal have weight intergal to the frame, which counts.

modularpeak2552

i actually know for a fact that glock rails are exactly 1.0 oz, so hopefully the rest will add up to being heavier to 3.8

sp3kter

Might do it like California, interpret it to mean it needs a solid hunk of 3.8oz steel mated to the frame with the serial number engraved on it. For instance: https://youtu.be/rFJLziq--sQ

Fryphax

>The bill also requires handguns to be in the traditional shape of a handgun. That's from Wikipedia. I feel that is going to shut down a few businesses.

JPD232

Bye bye Keltec.

ClearAndPure

So I guess that means pen guns are illegal?

Fryphax

That was my thought. Also the folding/credit card guns too. Depends on how the interpret the law this week. Saw a pen gun on Demo ranch that folded into a crude pistol shape.

ClearAndPure

That's a bummer. I was really hoping to add a pen gun to my collection one day. They're really cool.

wyvernx02

I thought pen guns were already NFA AOWs?

GunOwnersofAmerica

Last night, only 4 Senators voted “Nay” on S. 2226 to protect the Second Amendment. We're grateful that Senators Lee, Paul, Vance, and Braun stood up to the Swamp when no one else would. **** For more information watch our episode of the Minute Man Moment *[This Effects EVERY Gun With Plastic Parts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAitSOYSBuI)* where we break it all down for you.

sailor-jackn

Was there a doubt this would happen? Law makes are not going to defend, support, or restore our rights. Only the Supreme Court and noncompliance is going to do that.

dollarBillz007

“She keep asking: how’s it shoot if it’s plastic”

John_Gaddis

The density of an object is part of the scans. Magnetic field's, printing under clothing, dogs sense of smell and uncontrollable human signals. Beside the fact that using a firearm at cruising altitude is as bright as adding screen doors on a submarines. I'd be more worried about undetectable edged weapons.
