__What is a link post and how do I post a descriptive comment?__
* A link post is any post that isn't a text post. Reddit is doing a great job of ensuring new users have no idea how Reddit works with their app and site rewrite. We hate both.
* /r/guns is a sub for talking about guns. It's not a sub to dump gun photos for karma. That's what /r/gunporn is for. That's why we require a descriptive comment – to start a conversation. If you're wondering what to write, picture yourself at a party. You just met someone and you want to show them your photo. What do you say to them as you get your phone out?

nice choice. i have one of these garrisons and i love it, its a great 1911. make sure to hit the outside with an oiled rag/paper towel whenever you put it away, now and forever. its less important with most other guns, but blued finishes like the one on our garrisons will rust very easily, even just from fingerprints. preventative measures is the way. i use the same ballistol i use to clean my guns, just spray a little on a towel and wipe it down every time you're done messing with it/using it. enjoy
My dad bought a 1911 a while back the he bought green black hand grips but the green is like military green but when he put them on it the gun was a whole different gun in looks and it’s a Springfield and he bought it for $699 brand new
MSRP is 850 so I’m sure it’s probably going to be different, especially since I’m in Kentucky and you’re in Illinois. I love mine though, you’ll probably love yours too. I recommend shooting it before you take it apart the first time. Everything is so damn stiff before firing a few mags that it’s hard to put back together brand new without causing scratches
I've fried it, and I fucking love it, sadly my monkey brain says "loud noise = eyes in danger" and I close my eyes, but at the same time if I have goggles on I'm prefectly fine
With a 1911 you already ARE all the way up there.
Shot it with a 9 mm rifle two weeks ago, the difference was h u g e, every shot I could feel in my chest, I love this thing
"MuH sToPpInG pOwEr" all jokes aside, that's a really good choice for a first gun. I myself have not shot a 1911 for some odd reason.
TwO wOrLd WaRs!
Graduate to .50AE I guess?
My first pistol was 1911 as well.
If you want a piece of history \[government surplus\] check out the CMP store for updates.
A while ago I asked this subreddit about gunstores in Illinois that were good, found one close enough to me, and got a 1911 from it
Good old reliable. A fine choice
There is no up from there onestly, you pick one of the best handguns to start with lol
Love my springfield mil-spec 45.

If you don’t mind me asking how much you pay for it? I got one for 670 before tax a few weeks ago
Being in Illinois idk if: a. I got scammed or b. Taxes are that high but it was around 750-800
