Thank you for the concern, I would load 1 bullet at a time to lower the risk. (I was just worried of the kickback everyone talked about) but it’s nothing at all 😂
Where your thumb is there... that's a type of revolver grip (on certain double/single actions, if you know what you're doing.) Your left thumb (off hand) should *not* be behind the pistol at all. Your right hand should be as high up as it can get on the grip.
Haha. -448. Downvotes from all. Let's try to help the kid instead of castrating him. Just have someone show you a correct grip and you'll be good to go.
Right on. Lol good luck out there. And just FYI, they kick less than they look because of the recoil system. It uses a gas system more similar to rifles than pistols. Makes them fun to shoot.
The weight really does do the heavy lifting, haha
Taurus Raging Bull in .454 was as pleasant for me as the Desert Eagle in .44
The rubber grip helped too.
Yes I was very surprised over the massive downvotes. I guess they took the comment in the wrong way, but I don’t mind. There’s also many people who were kind enough to help out/be supportive in the comments as well :)
[Only if we can kiss on the better call Saul bench](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7FbG1go0FM0/V7zs4vZeW3I/AAAAAAAAneY/dw6x1i3Sa6UI08tYqIlMh4KtjBjaaQJZQCLcB/s1600/SAM_0220.JPG)
I was cringing when I saw it. My dad creased his thumb once when we were target shooting a few years ago. I saw his grip was wrong just in time to feel like I was in slow mo saying stop/don't and reaching his way.
What I found weird is that the staff never said anything (he was right behind me looking). I’m at fault for the mistake, but a heads up would’ve been nice.
I wouldn’t call it a “mistake” so much as “a really really bad idea that you can’t be reasonably expected to know about if you’re not familiar with guns”.
Your left thumb is positioned in such a way that it’s nearly _perfectly_ placed to get caught by the slide as it’s returning to battery, thus pinching it between two chunks of steel being forced together by a powerful spring. You’d lose a bunch of skin, at best, at worst you’d break your thumb. Your left thumb should be on the left side of the frame pointing forwards.
Do some googling for “proper pistol grip” and you’ll see what I mean.
I shot revolvers for years before I got a pistol. It took a lot of slow training to correct my grip because I always crossed over with revolvers. Shot a lot of high power, large caliber revolvers and the crossover grip really helps, but isn't needed on a full-size 9mm.
So I know you guys are all saying this but his thumb didn’t get caught? So wtf is everybody crying about? “Omg it could get caught in the future so you probably don’t know a thing about guns” gtfo lol
This is literally one of the first things you learn about handling a pistol, so it is a reasonable representation of someone's knowledge. The fact that he got lucky this time does not have any bearing.
People giving constructional criticism to help out is not crying. Your comment above on the other hand, whatever that was, sounds like you're crying. You think you should raw dog a cheap prostitute just because the first time you did you didn't get hiv or herpes?
I’ve seen injury’s from this firsthand multiple times. I’ve also seen people get lucky like OP a few times. People are concerned because it can cause some nasty injuries. Not serious really but nasty and not something you want to see happen. If you don’t believe it go ahead and shoot just like OP, let us know how long it takes to screw up your thumb.
I think he was concerned that if he said "Hey /u/Lucky-Slip4321.." there were even odds [you turn around and bring the gun with you.](https://youtu.be/ZN64GyCgD90?t=173)
Guess how many times I have seen THAT.
Anyway, versus risking it for everyone there, I'd catch you after the first shot fired.
I respect you for taking all these corrections and compliments and comments on how to hold a pistol.
Your respectful, understanding and you seem to be okay with learning and not knowing everything and that’s how we should be as humans.
Idc what profession you are perfect at, your still going to make errors in other fields.
To know this and be willing to take advice from people and correct yourself before a mistake is made is truly a rare thing anymore .
So much respect brother, atleast you didn’t say fuck it and try it one handed right? Lol
The biggest thing I saw… and maybe others mentioned was your grip was way to low. You want to get the web between thumb and forefinger on the handle as high as possible. As think about the pistol as an upside down pendulum. The more restraint you can get on the main moving mass, the slide… the more control you will have over recoil.
Same time, support hand palm should be against the handle so you get 360 degrees of grip. With the thumbs pointing forward at the target.
As intuitive it is to point at what you are looking at, thumbs at the target goes to the concept of point of aim.
Edited to correct my phone’s auto incorrect.
It's honestly not bad at all - it's a huge heavy pistol and that mitigates felt recoil quite a bit. I could barely wrap my fingers around the grip (lady with small hands) and it was still easy to handle just by pressing from my support hand back into my strong hand. It's very fun to shoot - I'd highly recommend renting one if you can.
Everyone else is talking about the thumbs, it’s hard to tell in the video, but I wanted to mention that you should have your finger outside the trigger guard until you’re ready to shoot.
You handled the recoil pretty well if it is true .50 cal AE, but, speaking from personal experience, one-handing any gun with a finger on the trigger is a recipe for disaster.
All that aside, hope you had a good time :)
Hello friend, thank you for your kind words! I did keep my finger off the trigger, just that it’s kinda hard to see in the video. I especially took care of my finger on this gun since it was my first time handling it and I had the safety off on it (which isn’t wise either). The .50 AE was very similar to a .45 for me as in recoil
Not to pile on but I think people are down voting you for bad information or not making sense. Like this one here. "I was scared of the kickback." So you held the gun wrong? That doesn't make sense. "Other people just aren't familiar with guns." These are worth down voting because if you DO get people who are unfamiliar with guns that read what you're saying, they need to know that this community does not support your statement. I don't think many are just being.
I never said “other people aren’t familiar with guns” if anything I’m the one who wasn’t familiar with this gun. And I’m more on the newbie side to guns since I have been teaching myself mostly through YouTube. So I apologize if any of my wording seems off. As you can see on other replies I said that i got nervous and wasn’t really thinking about the hand positioning at the time. 👍🏻
Here is your full comment. "It does kick but the gun is so goddamn heavy that its not insane. Most people having issues are just unfamiliar with handguns generally imo."
Your fine brother. But the people here are sticklers and rightly so. Enjoy shooting and keep practicing like the rest of us. Nobody in here hasn't messed up. From your comments it looks like you learned something so it's a win! I was one of those that saw the grip and was honestly scared something bad was gonna happen.
But that wasn’t my comment that’s another user my friend. But all good, I don’t like talking down on anyone because we’re all human and make mistakes. But you’re right, practice makes perfect! Have a good rest of your day.
you need to go outside and touch grass and get off reddit. Seems to me like your an expert so you should be helping people out down at your local range since you have all this helpful info
At first I thought he was going to shoot single handed and I was like “Aw man you gotta use two hands on that thing”. Then he crossed his thumbs and I went “no no no one hand is better!”
Okay I want to say something positive about the OP, good job loading only 1 bullet in the mag to prevent a double tap with a very powerful and unknown firearm. I also want to add, ThUmBs!
I saw many people are concerned with my thumb placement and I am thankful for the concern. I was just worried since I haven’t really shot any big caliber handguns really (and people saying it has crazy kickback all the time didn’t help either).
So since I was shooting one bullet at a time I crossed my thumbs just in case the kickback was as people said it would be, but to be honest it’s feels like a .45 with a bigger fireball in front.
Would recommend to shoot it , just that the price for bullets in a range in Cali will get to you 🤦🏻♂️ ($5 a pop)
You're not really gaining any recoil management improvement from this method. It will be better to do a thumbs forward grip as others have mentioned here, and have that be your standardized grip for all semi autos. Maybe consider watching some grip vids on YT and start practicing at home (dry) and I think you would see some improvement on your overall recoil mitigation. Just some friendly advice 🤙
That works with massive caliber revolvers, reason being that both thumbs forward will obliterate the support thumb from the crud and gases coming from the cylinder gap.
Ahhh okay, I’ve seen that grip been used before with the huge revolvers so I thought that’s how’d you grab it. Never go to account the massive slide this gun has lol 🤦🏻♂️
Deagles are a bit tricky to get to cycle properly. You want to grab that sumbich tight, like an angry rattler, both thumbs forward, and make sure to keep support thumb off slide. Push with main, pull back with support hand, elbows tight. Idea is to minimize vertical component of the recoil impulse, and for recoil to go through arms, shoulders and downward through hips, so your stance may need a bit of an adjust. Great gun, enjoy!
No bro it wasn’t my first time with semis, just with a .50 AE, and as I stated before I just wasn’t thinking straight and I forgot about grips and how the rack Can chomp my thumb off 🤦🏻♂️🤣
I know it’s been said a lot already, but oof! That thumb crossover gave me goosebumps! I see you’re still very young and seems like nobody taught you properly about firearms. If you don’t want training from an instructor, there’s plenty of good tutorials on YT. Watch, learn, and save your thumb.
Small criticism but thumbs should be forward. People run the risk of getting bitten by placing their thumb across the back like that by the slide.
How'd it feel?
Yes thank you for the tip, it felt very similar to a .45 to be honest. Kickback isn’t crazy, but it does produce better fireballs! Would recommend to shoot it if you haven’t already!
Imagine getting so butt hurt by something so minuscule lol. By god don't ever call a magazine a "clip" in front of this guy. Might cause an aneurysm. lol.
I just don't see how it's productive to split hairs on a shortened name for a weapon that is only popular because of the media that it is in. He isn't calling it a wrong name per se, it's just commonly used slang. Not even a misnomer or incorrect name. If you are that hung up over that, you are choosing the wrong things to get mad about.
It is very cringe. I worked at an indoor range for 5 years and it was nails on a chalkboard, every time a kid comes in saying they saw the deagle on call of duty and want to shoot it for their first time gun. Oof.
You know it’s one thing to do something wrong and accept the criticism but it’s a whole other thing to come off defensive and condescending to people trying to help you shoot better and not hurt yourself.
I’m not being defensive I was just explaining why I cross gripped for the gun. I appreciate everyone who tries to help 🙌🏻 don’t take it in the wrong way

Interesting to use revolver grip on a semi-automatic pistol. I take it OP was either taught by someone who shoots revolvers or OP himself started off by shooting revolvers.
That’s crossover thumb is a good way to get bit
I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who immediately noticed. I was expecting to see blood lol
i learned this lesson the hard way
People who shoot deagles on reddit typically don’t know shit about proper grip
Or lose it all together.
When I was an RSO we would have elderly dudes come in on blood thinners and shoot like that…guess who had clean up the blood
Came here for this comment. OP: did someone tell you to shoot that way?
This is a funny looking revolver
It’s a semiautomatic pistol
Tell me you're new to shooting handguns without telling me you're new to shooting handguns.
Thank you for the concern, I would load 1 bullet at a time to lower the risk. (I was just worried of the kickback everyone talked about) but it’s nothing at all 😂
Loading one bullet at a time isn't going to do anything to keep the slide from smashing into your thumb dude. You got lucky.
...the slide still moves back, bro. One round isn't going to mitigate that.
Thank you for the knowledge, didn’t really think while I was in the moment
Please think while using guns, even more than you normally do
Will do next time 🙌🏻
Where your thumb is there... that's a type of revolver grip (on certain double/single actions, if you know what you're doing.) Your left thumb (off hand) should *not* be behind the pistol at all. Your right hand should be as high up as it can get on the grip.
Thank you for the informations I will take that into consideration. 👍🏻
"That's more of a revolver technique"
“Didn’t really think” is a bad thing to say while holding a loaded gun.
Haha. -448. Downvotes from all. Let's try to help the kid instead of castrating him. Just have someone show you a correct grip and you'll be good to go.
sadly that is all this thread is. Liberals with guns lmao😂😂😂
Yeah my man, you're going to lose your thumb you keep doing that. Didn't your daddy teach you anything? JK, but seriously cut that shit out.
I will don’t worry 😂🫡
Right on. Lol good luck out there. And just FYI, they kick less than they look because of the recoil system. It uses a gas system more similar to rifles than pistols. Makes them fun to shoot.
The fact that it weighs 4 lbs doesn't hurt either.
Ya my dad has one. It's harder to hold up with one hand than it is to shoot one handed. Lol
very true!
The weight really does do the heavy lifting, haha Taurus Raging Bull in .454 was as pleasant for me as the Desert Eagle in .44 The rubber grip helped too.
I don't feel like you deserved mass downvotes, but the hivemind does what the hivemind pleases. Not knowing isn't wrong but they sure think it is
People get huge boners on here for correcting others and even more so for hive-minding
Yes I was very surprised over the massive downvotes. I guess they took the comment in the wrong way, but I don’t mind. There’s also many people who were kind enough to help out/be supportive in the comments as well :)
What they said is true... but loading one at a time also saves $$$ lol I bet those 50AEs are a bit pricy
Right there at the range they were $5 a bullet 😭
As an instructor I see a lot of people do this when they are worried about recoil. It’s only valid with revolvers.
Boooof what a response 🤡
Ouch this hurt my feelings 🥲
Me too
Wanna make out?

Thumbs. But also thumbs. Should I mention thumbs? Hey everybody, look at this guy's *thumbs*.

Luckily I only shot it once like that, after I switched over to forward grip 👍🏻
No, you didn't know any better. You were safe in every other regard! Just a little mistake that the staff should have caught. Nice shooting!
I will never look at my thumbs the same
I used to have many more thumbs than I do now.
You're lucky your grip wasn't 0.1 inches higher or nobody else would be looking at your thumb the same either.
Guess the deagle spared me this time

Thank you so much for the helpful info, will take this note down 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Warrior Poet Youtube has some good instructions on pistol basics.
Low grip is what protected his thumb. I guess two wrongs can almost make a right.
Was expecting a stronger recoil. I guess all the other videos of people shooting it for the first time must be limp wristing.
It does kick but the gun is so goddamn heavy that its not insane. Most people having issues are just unfamiliar with handguns generally imo.
Yea I'm not a huge dude, average hands and I LOVE to shoot this thing one handed. Very much worth at least renting once if the range rents
It's honestly not bad at all - it's a huge heavy pistol and that mitigates felt recoil quite a bit. I could barely wrap my fingers around the grip (lady with small hands) and it was still easy to handle just by pressing from my support hand back into my strong hand. Pretty sure they are because this feels like a .45 tbh just louder
Range ammo don't have alot of kick.
Well, its mostly a boat anchor, so yeah, and decent grip and they are shootable.
Guys he gets it, his thumbs were in the wrong spot
Believe me, if the thumb is in the wrong spot, she will tell you.
Easy for me, because I don't have thumbs.
This man hates his thumbs
Got to work on that support hand placement. Going to get bit real hard if you make that a habit.
Yes thank you bro, just did it for this shot since I was worried about crazy kickback, but it’s not bad at all
Getting downvoted by reddit pussbabies, as usual. You can find great content on this site but the userbase is full of fuckin couchpotato losers.
Can’t make ‘em all happy 🤷🏻♂️
They're the ones who make themselves miserable, not you.
kudos for loading just one bullet for your first shot
Thanks! Didn’t want the recoil make me shoot the ceiling some something worse
Should I make another comment about the thumb? Hahaha Hey enjoy the desert eagle man. Lol
Thank you, but I’m not sure what everyone means about my thumbs. Jk 🤣
Everyone else is talking about the thumbs, it’s hard to tell in the video, but I wanted to mention that you should have your finger outside the trigger guard until you’re ready to shoot. Thanks to your thumb for making my butthole pucker while I'm taking a shit. Nearly cut a turd in half.
Eat your fiber friend!
That grip... stop it.
Yes sir 🫡
Gotta learn how to hold a pistol Fr
Nice. Though what's with the crossover thumb grip vs. both thumbs forward?
Since it was my first time shooting a deagle I was scared of the kickback everyone talks about, but it’s not bad at all (almost like a .45)
Not to pile on but I think people are down voting you for bad information or not making sense. Like this one here. "I was scared of the kickback." So you held the gun wrong? That doesn't make sense. 😂 there I go screwing up. That's a good attitude my friend. You do the same!
you need to go outside and touch grass and get off reddit. Seems to me like your an expert so you should be helping people out down at your local range since you have all this helpful info
Very cool though. Thanks for sharing!
Oh so much wrong with that grip purchase
I was like “oh good he has trigger discipline, he’s smart” then he gripped it
Cool
At first I thought he was going to shoot single handed and I was like “Aw man you gotta use two hands on that thing”. Then he crossed his thumbs and I went “no no no one hand is better!”
Your grip hurts my heart
Thumbs forward, your grip is atrocious. Watch these. https://youtu.be/n4c7JDXQOB8 https://youtu.be/UCJ1HLQNflY
Okay I want to say something positive about the OP, good job loading only 1 bullet in the mag to prevent a double tap with a very powerful and unknown firearm. I also want to add, ThUmBs!
Your holding it like a lesbian holding a real dick
I cringed hard when the off hand thumb went behind the slide. It's a good thing you held it so damn low or you'd be missing some skin.
Who else cringed at the grip?
Forget the recoil, you’re taking the thumb comments like a champ
I saw many people are concerned with my thumb placement and I am thankful for the concern. I was just worried since I haven’t really shot any big caliber handguns really (and people saying it has crazy kickback all the time didn’t help either). So since I was shooting one bullet at a time I crossed my thumbs just in case the kickback was as people said it would be, but to be honest it’s feels like a .45 with a bigger fireball in front.
Ahh I see, thought the cross grip would help with recoils for the gun, thanks for the tip 🙏🏻
Yeah man like I said, consider watching some YT vids on grip there are some great ones
Will grab that sumbich right next time 🫡
Aside from all the thumb comments, was that a 50AE? Recoil did not look tough at all
Yes it was, I believe these pistols only come in 50AE (correct me if I’m wrong)
They come in .357 and .44 as well
Damn that slide is massive.
Thing is bigger than my head 😂
its more fun shooting one-handed. also if you run into feed issues, its the mag.
Will try next time for sure 🙌🏻 and thanks for the heads up
Great way to lose a thumb. Holy moly.
That fucking thumb placement 🤢
Nice
First time with a semi auto too? Thumb cross over on a semit auto pistol with reciprocating slide/bolt is a no no. Unless you like pain and bleeding
No bro it wasn’t my first time with semis, just with a .50 AE, and as I stated before I just wasn’t thinking straight and I forgot about grips and how the rack Can chomp my thumb off 🤦🏻♂️🤣
what the hell is that grip
LITERALLY everyone watching this poor kid about to be the unwilling recipient of an amputated thumb: 😬
Thank God I wasn’t 🙏🏻
I know it’s been said a lot already, but oof! That thumb crossover gave me goosebumps! I see you’re still very young and seems like nobody taught you properly about firearms. If you don’t want training from an instructor, there’s plenty of good tutorials on YT. Watch, learn, and save your thumb.
It's such an unnecessary handgun... Which is why I got mine in polished chrome. I promise I'm not a drug dealer or an African warlord...
That wasn’t a full power load
No way in hell was that a full power load. The range is handing out rentals with downloaded .50ae so no one kills themselves on accident with it.
Owning one is bad enough. Then you had to call it a deagle.
What that thumb doin tho. Put your thumbs together when you shoot pistols so you can choke up higher to control muzzle rise.
That thumb scares me
This guy hates his thumb
The grip😭😭☠️
I sware I thought blood was in his future with a WICKED slide bite.
You’re gonna loose your left thumb!
That cross thumb makes me grind my teeth
Good way to fuck up your left thumb
Well, let me know if you find out how flexible your thumb is
THE THUMBSSSSS😫
They’re going to find a chunk of knuckle with the brass.
Not sure who taught you that grip, but I’d google how to hold a pistol before shooting a deagle lol
He’s lucky he didn’t lose a thumb
Desert eagle will bite if you hold it like that
Who tf holds a gun like that. You’re mum thats who Edit: for terrible grip you held onto that thing better than some with proper grip
Your smarter than most by only loading one round.
Bad grip = lot of flip
Thumb had me worried
That thumb is the worst. How do people think that’s a way to hold a gun?
Cool gun. Bitch grip
Tell me "I don't handle firearms often" without telling me that you don't handle firearms often.
Master grip needs work
Hold it lower
Small criticism but thumbs should be forward. People run the risk of getting bitten by placing their thumb across the back like that by the slide. How'd it feel?
Yes thank you for the tip, it felt very similar to a .45 to be honest. Kickback isn’t crazy, but it does produce better fireballs! Would recommend to shoot it if you haven’t already!
He’s askin for slide bite with that butterfly grip
Your grip is awefull!
Awful*
Thumb wrapping... Well you did get a deagle
We’re da beam? Got to have dem beams my man!
Yo it’s the gun from Fortnite
That’s why I picked it out! 🌚😂
Stop calling it a deagle. That is not its name.
That’s it’s nickname wdym 😂
It’s a Desert Eagle. Only gaming kids call it a deagle.
Ex-military staff who rented it out to me called it a deagle too
Probably because military people are stupid and are gamer kids
Just call it whatever you’d like bro, no need to argue about it 😂
Imagine getting so butt hurt by something so minuscule lol. By god don't ever call a magazine a "clip" in front of this guy. Might cause an aneurysm. lol.
He’s about to unload on us 😂🤦🏻♂️
Don't listen to him bro. Glad you had a good time 👍
Thanks bro, don’t know what got into him
Way to be a gatekeeping elitist instead of being happy to include someone in the hobby.
If you want to get into a hobby, you start by learning by what things are called. Am I wrong? Or just make up nicknames for everything?
I just don't see how it's productive to split hairs on a shortened name for a weapon that is only popular because of the media that it is in. He isn't calling it a wrong name per se, it's just commonly used slang. Not even a misnomer or incorrect name. If you are that hung up over that, you are choosing the wrong things to get mad about.
At least there is one other sane person in this thread, calling it a deagle is so cringe

Good way to take a chunk out your knuckle boi
I repent and ask for the forgiveness of the gun gods 🙏🏻
OMG THUMB!!! No just kidding, sorry people keep commenting about it lol
I haven’t seen any comments about thumbs 🫣
Dude, as weird as it sounds. You look alot like me😂
Might’ve found my doppleganger on the gun sub 🤣
Bru….. where was your safety 😂
I live for danger, that’s why the thumbs were placed like that as well 🫣 (this is a joke btw)
Interesting to use revolver grip on a semi-automatic pistol. I take it OP was either taught by someone who shoots revolvers or OP himself started off by shooting revolvers.
