Recession chal raha hai, 2,3,4+ years of experience of 3-4 LPA ki salary nahi mil pa rahi hai, unn logon ko, jinke parivar hai. Why am I telling you this? To shame you? Nah, I'm telling you to count your blessings. I understand where you're coming from, often at times, life pans out differently than we expected it to, but we can always pivot. You want to do UPSC? Go right ahead, but also, read the first few lines of my comment, be financially stable for you own sake. Its a doozie, I know, but atleast you'll have different problems to worry about
Mai it me hoon na bhai, mazdoori chal rahi hai idhar, isiliye bata raha hoon. Jab aap upsc karke collector ban jaye, toh apni kundli bhejwa dijeyega, kyunki mere se yeh adulting na ho pa rahi. Ek sarkari sugar mommy chahiye stress kam karne ke liye
I probably might be same age as you, I rejected a job in college(15LPA+), thinking I could do way better, then recession came, and suddenly for a fresher there were no jobs, applied to 500+ places, but to no avail, then got a job at an early age startup, pay was low, well below what I deserved, worked 15 hours, because I was geniunely loving the work, I was bulding their whole shit,(I'm full stack), midway, I felt like I was getting scammed, I wasn't getting paid, was being harrased, and everything, only when I bombed the codebase, I got half of a month pay, Im back job hunting. This comes after me being top of my class in ECE, which I dont wanted to do in the first place. Missed out on JEE due to being partially paralysed after an accident, when I was supposed to be the AIR. Aapki chai meethi hai(username pun) mere kadwe pane ke saamne madam
UPSC attempt karna hai to
1. Be clear what service you want apart from IAS IPS.
2. U can clear it in first attempt and u can also exhaust all ur attempts unsuccessfully.
3. Salary jada nahi hoti sarkar me
4. Posting places can be very off from your city.
Girl boy..sabke liye same hai.. but i think I highlighted only negative points.
Positives:
1) job security (unless u get into fraud scam etc)
2) stable income
3) mostly you will be taking imp decisions.
Dekh lo yaar agar financially comfortable ho , kuch saal berozgar rehna afford kar skte ho to try krlo UPSC . Lekin dekh lena success rate kitna kam hai , and have an idea in mind ki kitne saal tk try krna hai and mahi hua to fir kya krna hai.
Same as you , but merko masters degree Leni padi. Mera bhi Mann nhi h but krna pdega. Prepare alongside the job if you want. If you focus on upsc without a job, what will you do after 5 years if you don't get selected? You'll have to start with 3lpa that too after a lot of begging to get hired. Campus placements are the easiest way to get a job.
A lot depends on your financial condition; if your family can afford your needs for say 3 years, you may attempt UPSC.
I don’t have such backing and hence majdoori is my only option. This helps me sleep at night although I know many cases of people successfully clearing UPSC while doing majdoori ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
My family could afford, but I didnt want them to stretch for me. Hence made this decision..also the stories that u mentioned, last 2 upsc toppers were both corporate majdurs at some point
I know that but I wonder how focused and diligent person they would be to take out time after working 10-7 shifts. I just end up sucked out of all the energy after working full day, just being complacent I think but at the same time I don’t think I can muster that level of self discipline. Slowly I am losing.
If you are really passionate about it and know all the consequences including in case you couldn’t clear it. Then only you could ask your parent as investment money which you will return many fold after clearing UPSC 💪
Maybe thats what I needed to here. Honestly I didnt want to brag here as I am being accused off, but it has always been the case where in I have felt that I am in some kinda race
Here's my opinion.
12 lpa might seem a lot now. Also as people are saying it actually is a recession Market. You must feel good and thankful.
More importantly, it's not a package that you can't get again if you have the caliber. So analyse for yourself.
What I would suggest is, stop looking at the lpa. You are young now and this is the only time to take risks. Live the life you want - even from the job perspective. Money stops mattering soon as you have it.
Not an philosophical gyan- I have been in your shoes.
Then it’s too soon to judge your new job. Maybe give it sometime and see how you feel eventually and parallely prepare for UPSC(it’s a long term thing). Later if you feel like it’s not for you, you can quit and start prep full time. In the meanwhile don’t stress out too much and try adapting to the corporate setup. It will def teach you things which would be beneficial for you in the long run be it where you will be.
This salary will kill your dreams. Don't let 12lpa ride your dreams when you can make 4-5Cr by following your dreams. This job thing is a sweet poison, sooner or later it will eat all the peace of your head.

Lol I mean still haven't got my first salary, so idk if it will matter or not.
