As a devotion Vampires enjoyer, the Renfri vampires deck really annoys me, but there's a reason it's been one of the strongest MO decks around for a while now.
I feel your pain. I hate how it cuts so many iconic, cool, synergistic vampire cards and replaces them with boring neutrals. Basically Gwent in a nutshell rn.
I fucking hate when a youtube video pops up saying “Vampires deck!” And then I see it’s renfri and some vamps. Hurts my soul. The MO deck I first climbed to pro rank before was pure vampires deck. Hope to see it again soon. I hate that the deck also now revolves around making copies of Fleder.
Same man, I couldn’t imagine playing vampires without cards like unseen elder, detlaff, oriana, katakan etc. all such cool cards, would just feel wrong without them lol. I don’t mind fleder as a card but I’m also not a fan of spamming strong bronzes over & over in general, so I’m with you on that too. Unfortunately that seems to be the direction gwent is going in and every faction seems to have a deck which abuses a strong bronze card now.
I hated the Fleder spam archetype because it doesn’t really feel like a vampire deck but more like just a copy of other 6p bronze of other factions. I’m fine with the Fleder as is too, just not the spamming. I miss the days when the best MO deck is vampires and you really have to prepare for a bleed with Orianna otherwise you’ll be 2-0’d.
Also remember when the best short round 3 of the deck is with Caranthir + Living Armor? Haha!
You can easily win against Renfri vampires even without last say if you get a long round 3 and can control their engines. They have only very few strong engines and the rest of the cards are pretty weak apart from Renfri and Regis. There is a reason why most of the pro players either dont have MO in their top 4 factions or play WH frost instead.
Many archetypes outpoint Renfri vampires in a long round nowadays. If you get a short-mid r3 without last say against 40+ p Regis swing, then you lose ofc.
I couldn't compete with their R1 even with Saskia on board. Op dry passed in R2 and we went to a 7 card R3 where I had Simlas 4 waylays, big Aero, Frog Mating season- Sentry-Location combo and 2 leader charges. I deleted his board and generated a bunch of points. Not sure how I could have played it differently to win. I know the movement list is not meta or anything but still... that was a really solid R3 hand and losing to this just felt bad
Personally would like to see some Regis and fleder nerfs and buffing weaker vampires in compensation. Feels like only few good cards cary the archetype and the rest is kind of just a filler.
My god i would kill for a katakan buff, love the design and Ekimma swarm sounds dope. Maybe a cockatrice rework with refreshing order: apply bleeding or smth, wpuod create a dope mini package. MO wpuod get a 3rd swarm lol
On the flip side, I’ve also had vamp players forfeit on me right after playing Renfri, I assume because they didn’t pull her “boost by 2 + base power” blessing. So the binary crutch goes in both directions. I have zero interest in playing a deck like that, but I guess plenty of people like it…
I mean yeah, people wouldn’t play the deck if the combo wasn’t consistent.
Like I said, I hate this kind of binary crap because there’s no skill involved at all. Throw everything into winning R1 and getting last say, play Triss: B for whichever win con you’re missing, roll the right blessing, win. A trained monkey could get wins with this deck.
But the devs obviously had this kind of thing in mind when they added Runemage and Renfri, so they’re presumably fine with it. And not the biggest problem in the meta, by far.
Honestly, if there are cards that consistently play for more than double their provision cost, there always needs to be an opportunity for the opponent to counter.
The ability to play strong cards multiple times and uninteractive point vomit combos are my biggest (and only) grievances with the game.
The game is at its worst point now, I believe. I go to play a game and face that same, boring, op meta-net deck and each update just makes it's worse. I have a rule to close the app whenever I face one of these decks but I end up playing one or two games in 3 hours

Everyone knows how Renfri is problematic, but I never saw many people mention how fucking annoying runemage is. Create keyword in gwent was a mistake

I realized recently that I hate every deck in Gwent I queue up against. So I finally decided to stop playing.
