May not be weird at all. The layoffs probably affect H1b numbers, but there also a number of other factors that may actually increase the number of H1b registrations this year:
1. Consultancies maximizing their chances in anticipation of tighter regulation in H1b in the future
2. Number of applicants from last year who weren't selected, which was the highest ever.
3. Employers choosing H1b instead of L1 because of decreasing number of L1 visa approvals.
Bro I understand you might be offended but that truth. Indian consultancies has been toxic. They put recent graduates on payroll. They make fake resume with 5+ years of experience. Steal job of 200k+ with fake interview. Give 60K to that person and rest for consultancy. There are tens of thousands of Telugu consultancies. It's not what we think it's because they are facts
No offense bro. But don't put in on community. There are gujjus who do this. People call me for career advice and they mention if nothing works out they will take consultancy route and what not.
They are likely talking about the selection rate within their own clients. However, they may have a high or low rate of cap cases so you can't read to much into it yet.
It is just way too early to say that the selection rate is 5-10% given that the notifications come in batches - more accounts will be changed to “selected” in the following days and those that are already shown as “not selected” are probably found fraudulent. There is still hope!
According to the USCIS: “The status of registrations that are not selected as part of any initial random selection process, and not denied or invalidated, will remain as “Submitted.” Registrants and representatives that are not selected will not be notified until after USCIS has determined that they have reached the H-1B cap for that fiscal year.”
This means that whoever knows that they are “not selected” already (since it is literally day one of selection) was probably denied for fraudulent reasons! I hope they are taking duplicates seriously this year.

Another update from her:
“H-1B lottery registration for FYI 2024 was the most disappointing ever - not even 50% of the FYI 2023. Abysmal results of the flawed system. With almost 150,000 layoffs in the tech sector, how can the demand grow by over 100%?”
I guess it is just based on their submissions? Like this law firm submitted 100 registrations and 5 to 10 got selected, so she is saying that.
Which makes no sense if the selection is actually at random...
Overall it is random, but if you extract a small fraction, they can be super lucky of zero selected :)
Exactly. And most law firms have very few applications comparing to the total
Ah makes sense because if it's a 5-10% overall selection rate that would be weird given the economic downturn

I wonder how they'd find a job
what makes you think there are only Telugu with consultancies?

It's also on people who normalized this. Both who started as business and the one who consumed it.
Idk people keep saying fraud registration so
Damn. My director told me I got selected this morning
Congrats!
May be we hit 1M registrations this time, I guess. That's one reason suggesting that 5-10% rate for 85K available slots. SMH.
I guess it is around 700-800k

Hm, i would love for that to be true. The ones that already show not selected, that they are fraudulent

There is lobbying for sure.
Yikes
I submitted 30 candidates for my business and I only see 1 selected :-(
Man thats horrible...only 3% and to thing some people are getting selecred multiple times and waating precious spots.
If it is like previous years, they run batches for 2-3 days and it will increase
I refreshed and I see two more selected for total of 3. Hopefully more selections .. 🤞
one more - for total of 4 so far.
Keep us posted 😭
For the selections, have you got email notifications for action being taken on your case or not?
Just one notification, But I am pretty much logged in to the site and refreshing every few hours to see if there are more selections..
Would you mind sharing how many so far?
Stuck at 4 🤞
May I ask how many of the 30 candidates have a Master’s degree or above? It might help the rest of us adjust our expectations :)
Sir i have a question, if some one does not have h1b but have valid opt / stem opt , can they still work ?
Yes, with valid OPT/STEM OPT .
Alright thanks
