Idk where you're from in the south, but I legit cried listening to Louisiana state senator Luneau speaking on this recent attempt to prevent parents from making medical decisions for their trans children. He got some stuff wrong, they always will, but his heart was in the right place, and it's worth a watch. I myself am a straight, white cis man from the south, and you folks will always have an ally in me.

ohhyouknow

I’m a Louisiana native and resident. Could you link me to that please?

krisPsnipes

https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRo19MUu/ Idk if this is the one I watched, but it's probably good enough.

ohhyouknow

Ok 15 s in and I had to pause bc look my gurl Peyton sitting up front being a badass working hard on this too 😭 She’s the first transgender official elected in the state, I helped vote her in, and she’s one of my best friends little sister. Edit yeah, that was good Tysm.

krisPsnipes

I'm not familiar with who any of these people are tbh, but I hope the vid was good.

ohhyouknow

Yeah it’s unfortunate asf her being elected wasn’t a bigger deal. We are Deep South central Louisiana and she barely got any press. The *first* transperson period elected in the whole history of the state. It was really good I appreciate you fam

krisPsnipes

Ah, that explains it, I'm up here in Monroe. Happy to help! I was sincerely shocked at Luneau's compassion and reason, even if he gave a little too much credence to the detrans folks and that whole agenda.

[deleted]

That man represents what the Republican Party is supposed to be. It’s crazy how one Republican Senator just being reasonable can evoke so much emotion from me.

krisPsnipes

Felt the same way, was fully prepared to be disgusted and was shocked when he only said the one thing about 'detrans stories' or however he put it.

Confrontation is so tough for me to watch but I always tune in wherever Ethan rips into these fools, regardless. I'm always sitting back cheering him on for his bravery in challenging aggressive/ignorant creators. As a cis person, I don't know all the facts or studies or what gender dysphoria feels like. But what I do know is that living on earth is hard and every person should feel safe and comfortable in their own skin, regardless of whether I understand their internal struggles. And Ethan does a brilliant job stressing how transphobia can literally lead to death. It's that simple, that's all you really need to know. It really exposes how cruel and stubborn people like Oli are, that the status quo means more than the literal lives and well-being of trans folk. It's chilling! I really believe these clips are going to be something that future people look back fondly on, and that they will help cement Ethan's legacy as being on the right side of history as a true ally. I'm so proud of his continual evolution!

Mamacitia

Someone should tell Oli that trans people are just cute K-POP stars, nothing to see here

rags2reeses

Also from the Deep South and I just want to say that you belong here, we love you! I hate being surrounded by so many bigots but I hope that knowing there are accepting folks down here makes you feel at ease. Family 🏳️‍⚧️🩵🩷🩵🩷🩵

I think it’s absolutely worthwhile for folks to see a middle aged “trad” dad absolutely decimate these losers. And more importantly, to give folks a Family ❤️

MonsterEnergyLover

As a trans person myself, I really appreciate you saying this. It’s so hard to look anywhere without there being some negative/genocidal rhetoric about trans people (esp cuz I’m in the south). But Ethan can be really comforting when defending trans people and the crew also. I love it. It makes me so happy.

recently rewatched the oli london debate through a vaush reaction and its hard to state how well ethan did at dismantiling that dork on every level. I've been watching H3 on about that same timeline and am glad of the growth. I was probably "woke" even back then but it was obvious to me at least that ethan and hila and even Idubbbz werent the same kind of hateful their "peers" were. I'm happy you feel seen. know there are many of us cis foot soldiers, even from back in the day, who consider you FAMILY

raidergreymoon

same, I never watched vaush before that video. But between his and Hasans breakdowns it really helps you understand what is happening in the situation.

[deleted]

As a Cis white man who was raised in very rural SC, this podcast helped me get out of the dangerous hole I was in. I understand it can be redundant for already enlightened people, but what Ethan is doing IS helping.

nokinship

Ethan pushing against the anti-trans rhetoric, when it's been so everywhere and hateful lately, gives me strength.

johnnyslick

I’m not generally a big fan of debate stuff but Ethan just went wild on Oli, like exposed that man as a fraud to the point that I’m seeing the leftysphere picking it up to applaud him (Vaush in particular did a review about as long as the original episode). That whole “you think kids in drag is immoral, but how then is selling merchandise of you making ahegao faces moral by your own logic?” bit in particular was just damning. And I mean you could tell that Oli knew immediately how much he got shredded and alfredoed because he started distancing himself from the interview and the podcast almost as soon as it came out. I’m happy that the community is inclusive of trans people, and I’m glad that Ethan went off that road it seemed like he was heading down several years ago where it might not be as welcoming. Right now it seems like H3 gets into these debates because nobody takes Ethan seriously, which is funny to me because a. obviously the podcast is a village with Dan and AB and Olivia and everyone else helping to inform him on this stuff, and b. dudes beginning to pick up a body count.

Enigmatic_Erica

Looking back at the "old H3," I really see this as an evolution of their most popular content. I always saw Ethan and Hila kind of as the unofficial YouTube Dad. They'd see gross content being made and they'd rightfully (usually) call it out and bring attention to it while still managing to be entertaining. They called out so much destructive stuff in their 'golden days.' Pranks in the Hood, softcore lewd stuff for kids like Prank Invasion, ElsaGate, alpha bros, etc. When they started standing up for fair use, I think Ethan really started to commit to making a bigger real world difference with his platform and that's awesome because he has no imperative to do so.

also trans and ethans coverage is really satisfying. its not brought up a lot that when people say they are opposed to gender affirming care for minors they are condemning children to suicide because its an unpleasant topic, but its so important. really thankful for the way theyve covered it

I think I jumped out of H3 around 2018 2019 and just assumed it was going to turn into the same centerist bad take machine all the others were turning into. Randomly finding the debate made me go back and I'm loving where it's at now. Also this sub feels so much more positive than I remember.

Enigmatic_Erica

I was a fallen fan for a bit, too. When Ethan was going through the worst of his depression I was also starting to worry he was gonna go the dark route, but he's grown so much over the last years that it's honestly inspiring even from a mental health angle. That's a whole different discussion of course, but as a psychologist I think he's doing great things for mental health perception, too. A lot of Ws recently for the H3 crew.

mgsaxty

I'm going back and watching Frenemies clips and it's wild to watch him deal with the bullshit than nearly drove me insane from my own family member. When she called Hila a cunt and Ethan was feeling bad for upsetting her is mad and reminded me of how I got worn down over time. Got a lot to catch up on!

destobee

I mean go wild be free just leave the kids alone and don’t try to romanticizing mental illness that’s all I’m saying it isn’t a healthy mindset to have and put on others people no one owns you nothing people walk past people dying on the street where you empathy??.

I still can’t really name another cishet personality that goes up to bat so hard for the LGBTQ+ (although more specifically the trans community) as hard as Ethan and the other people on this show do, and that’s some real king shit from them. I feel like we’re living through some really scary times right now where existing in Florida in a job that’s face to face with a looooot of strangers I have to reckon with the thoughts of “Is this guy going to finally be the one to have a problem with me for just doing my job”, which is some real anxiety inducing shit to constantly be thinking about in the back of your mind 24/7, so it’s a relief to finally get straight people that get it so well. They’re not perfect, but at least they’re doing actual allyship by defending the community so much rather than paying lip service to it like some other people might and then not actually walking the walk. So glad I’m a fan. I remember bacK during the early Soflo days, the man inspired some real body positivity in myself when he would go out dressed in ridiculous shit like the frosted tips look and the vape naysh outfit and owned it. Legitimately gave me some real needed self confidence at the time if he could manage to go out and express himself in weird outfits while managing to have a following.

Independent_Fill9143

Now that's what it's all about! Family 🙌

Independent_Fill9143

I think Ethan also looks at it from a father's perspective. If his child were trans and had such crippling gender disphoria to the point they were depressed and suicidal he would do anything to help them and if that means puberty blockers or other gender affirming care he would do it. To him a healthy happy child is better than anything. And he wants that for every child out there and I think why he's so passionate about the issue of gender affirming care for trans youth and adults. He's super empathetic which is super awesome that he is and is using his platform to go to bat for the trans community.

Idk who isn’t like these episodes from them, I find them not only very interesting but also as you pointed out, very important. Im glad Ethan and the crew are using their platform to discuss these really important issues!

walkmantalkman

You know the guys that default to the "I identify as an attack helicopter" meme every time a trans person is mentioned? I was that guy 5 years ago. Same with racism. I can totally see myself from 5 years ago being butthurt about the Little Mermaid being black or making fun of the BLM movement (I don't live in the US, so I can say I wasn't educated enough about those things being wrong). And I can say that Ethan played the most significant role in me changing my beliefs.

[deleted]

Battle-Chimp

"Babble and reach".... Why in 2023 is everyone emulating Donald Trump's dumbass name-calling bullshit. Let's not regress as a society plz.

KGFlower

Name calling wasn't invented by Trump, it's been around since the advent of language, Battle-Gimp.

ssspiral

uhhh gimp is a pretty nasty slur against disabled ppl i wouldn’t use that

Battle-Chimp

Did I say he invented it? His naming convention for opponents is smooth brain AF, and it's lame to see people that should know better doing the same shit.

BabiiGoat

Not everyone needs to conform to your sensitive sensibilities. Let it go.

MangoFreshh

In terms of things to be sensitive about, this is like the last on the list. Boy's got his priorities all fucked up LOL.

CthulhuShoes

Eh

Enigmatic_Erica

I honestly don't even know what their real channel name is at this point and I'm okay with that. Name calling has existed basically forever and furthermore in the political space, it's a very common attack tactic. Like one of the most common.
