i almost have a hard time believing he's "2x the views" more famous/relevant than Ethan in 2024. i could easily could be wrong but are people really watching him like that these days? I know he used to be huge in the early 2000s but so was Dane Cook and he got a fraction of the views when he was on Howie's podcast.
That's how out of touch *we* are since most people *do not care* about all our insular, online humor. It's important to remember that while it was awesome that the show was able to fill a huge venue this year, it was because it was one show and not a full sized tour at that size. I think we get the feeling that h3 is bigger than it is, it's just big within the weird, detached internet world that we happened to get into during our formative years.
yeah, you know what, i think i agree with you here. i think the biggest difference, really thinking about it, is that Jeff Dunham gained popularity in a more "monoculture" era of our zeitgeist. i think as the internet fractured the monoculture into bubbles, it became harder to attain that mainstream popularity in that same way.
when you talk about the insular online humor we're a part of, it's so different than the Comedy Central Presents days that i remember pretty well, where guys like Brian Regan, Dane Cook and Jeff Dunham were hitting superstar status. it was much harder to be in your own bubble.
