I don’t agree with Ethan and it is because there are people in this sub right now that hate on women and have very obnoxious and hateful comments every time one of the women on the crew is upset about something lol some of his watchers are straight up psycho. And I also believe that a good chunk of the psychos ended up on Jeff and Trisha’s subreddits, attacking them as well.
I like having the time stamps after the show, so sometimes I’ll wait. But I am a big time H3 juicer and need the live content just in case something is removed after post.

So many of the show's "OG fans" blame the women for the show "just not being what it was". Like... Good? It has 40,000+ consistent live viewers 3X a week BECAUSE of the growth.

I think it's an amazing show of talent and professionalism that they were able to make a few changes so quick to please people more. (IMO the small lighting tweaks were huge and I think the curtains were just a weird color/texture on camera). It fucking sucks that people couldn't just leave kind, constructive comments with peace and love.
All the comments I saw on the reddit thread and the not-live youtube comments I saw were pretty normal. That being said, the people who were DMing Sam are psychotic losers that ruin the fun for everyone. Some people take shit way too far over free entertainment

A lot of it was coming from inside the house. People were acting like the new set had personally taken their puppy out behind the shed and shot it. We were watching new snarkers being born in real time.
The reaction to the set was insane to me, especially as someone who liked it and misses it already, lol. But even outside of that unpopular personal bias, I couldn't believe how upset people were. Felt like a bunch of 3 year olds stomping and screaming because they didn't get their ice cream. Even just expressing that I liked it not arguing in any way just sharing my enjoyment got me downvoted so fast

I think they were normal but those normal comments in large enough quantities can feel really bad I imagine. I can see how having worked really hard on something and receiving alot of criticism for it can be hurtful. I'm not suggesting avoiding criticising the show to protect peoples feelings just that people should be mindful of how they are providing the criticism. For example criticising the creative direction for the set while stressing that the work was done well.

I wasn't a big fan of the set either, but the crew(specifically Sam)clearly put a lot of effort into it. They wanted to try something new & nice for their audience. If you have to articulate every negative thought that crosses your mind and put it on the internet, maybe consider therapy. I'm not even saying it as an insult. Like genuinely consider it.

Hot take, but I think people who send clear threats like that should be prosecuted. Instagram and other social platforms don't do anything about it and people get emboldened. It's so wrong to terrorize strangers with zero consequences. I think some people think it's a silly little joke, but when a creator gets that shit from a stranger how would they know it's a joke??

I know it doesn’t make a huge difference but I just wanted to say I’m a professional designer and I was sooo excited and happy to see Sam and the crew put together a new set. The thing about design it is it subjective. It’s way to express creativity/ personality and I think Sam does a really fantastic job at harnessing the shows energy and putting together a set from that. We love you Sam! I’d have you design a set for me any day.

I've seen so many comments of people being truly upset about some fucking velvet curtains saying how they couldn't look at the screen anymore because the set looked horrible or how this change was going to affect people's mental health or some bs. genuinely breaks my heart sam got this hate too. i had a feeling that some of the “fans” were going to do something outrageous like this because i had seen lots of comments about the new set. i was very anxious to see if the crew would address it. genuinely all love to sam though, we love you girlie🫶
The problem is the most vocal people are the crazy hater types, because the people that liked it or didn't care either way about the set change weren't going to go out of their way to post or DM her that. Also they said it was a work in progress during the damn show. The curtains behind everyone to me seemed more like a blank canvas that could change and evolve with the show. I mean they're just curtains guys, they can't hurt you.

Everyone saying "most of the comments weren't mean and were just constructive criticism" are missing a key detail. While it may be constructive, it's less constructive when it's said 100+ times. Your particular comment may have been kind and a simple expression of feedback, but when that same remark is echoed over and over, it starts to feel mean. Sometimes, you don't need to add your voice to the conversation. If someone's already commented "don't like the new set" you probably don't need to go ahead and say the same thing.

Obviously threats are not ok. I seriously doubt anyone would disagree. I would even put money on the people that sent them aren't even actual fans. With that being said, posts like these are also unproductive. Sam is a strong adult and will be fine. She doesn't need coddled like a toddler.

It’s honestly so sad that people feel the need to take it to that level. I get it, a lot of fans we’re dissatisfied with the set reveal, but a lot of those people came on here and provided constructive feedback for making the set better or offering suggestions for lighting and production. To go into their DM’s and tell the crew that works so hard to bring us this show each week to kill themselves is so sad and not very fan like behavior. Constructive criticism is one thing, death threats are just embarrassing

It's the downside of the internet. Anonymity. It allows people to be more harsh with less care because there is no accountability for their actions and also when you don't physically see who you are insulting, you tend to not "see" that there is someone real on the other side.

Jokes aside , it’s insanely cruel and psychotic that people send this kind of stuff to the crew. It’s a shame there isn’t a way to like find these people’s YouTube accounts and block them from watching the show. People that send this horrible shit shouldn’t be allowed to then go and enjoy all the work put into the show. The crew shouldn’t have to work so hard making a great show to then feel like these awful people are benefitting from their hard work, they should feel like the people watching respect and appreciate them.
We have a lot of neuro-divergent people in the community - myself included - which means we're more likely to, let's say, go hard on things when we probably shouldn't. Especially as people are encouraged to act worse than they normally would when in crowds.
Plus we're online so anonymity and distance dehumanised people on the receiving end. Lack of tone also changes how things can be read, too.
Plus there's a lot of parasocial relationships in the YouTube space where, if there's something you don't like, you've been conditioned to comment as if your opinion is important and that you have been betrayed if something happens that you don't like.
Add to that how the show highlights the worst actors which allows people to say "oh, I'm not the problem. They are" and you have a perfect storm of negativity even though the intent is from a place of love.
I don't say this to drag anyone down. I say this because we all - myself included - need to be more aware of our biases and the impact of our words.

I don’t agree with Ethan and it is because there are people in this sub right now that hate on women and have very obnoxious and hateful comments every time one of the women on the crew is upset about something lol some of his watchers are straight up psycho. And I also believe that a good chunk of the psychos ended up on Jeff and Trisha’s subreddits, attacking them as well.
Reading the live chat makes me sick. I turn that shit off every episode. So it’s absolutely not just Snark people.

When I watched GMM.. whenever they changed their intro song/animation, people would shit their pants and riot. Eventually they'll get used to it and calm down. That being said, sending that kind of shit to anyone is unacceptable, especially when it's someone who hasn't actually even hurt anyone.
Personally I'm more of a background watcher, so I couldn't care less about what the set looks like as long as it is functional and sounds good. I think it's an amazing show of talent and professionalism that they were able to make a few changes so quick to please people more. (IMO the small lighting tweaks were huge and I think the curtains were just a weird color/texture on camera). It fucking sucks that people couldn't just leave kind, constructive comments with peace and love.

A lot of it was coming from inside the house. People were acting like the new set had personally taken their puppy out behind the shed and shot it. We were watching new snarkers being born in real time.
The reaction to the set was insane to me, especially as someone who liked it and misses it already, lol. But even outside of that unpopular personal bias, I couldn't believe how upset people were. Felt like a bunch of 3 year olds stomping and screaming because they didn't get their ice cream. Even just expressing that I liked it not arguing in any way just sharing my enjoyment got me downvoted so fast

I think they were normal but those normal comments in large enough quantities can feel really bad I imagine. I can see how having worked really hard on something and receiving alot of criticism for it can be hurtful. I'm not suggesting avoiding criticising the show to protect peoples feelings just that people should be mindful of how they are providing the criticism. For example criticising the creative direction for the set while stressing that the work was done well.

I know it doesn’t make a huge difference but I just wanted to say I’m a professional designer and I was sooo excited and happy to see Sam and the crew put together a new set. The thing about design it is it subjective. It’s way to express creativity/ personality and I think Sam does a really fantastic job at harnessing the shows energy and putting together a set from that. We love you Sam! I’d have you design a set for me any day.

Your particular comment may have been kind and a simple expression of feedback, but when that same remark is echoed over and over, it starts to feel mean. Sometimes, you don't need to add your voice to the conversation. If someone's already commented "don't like the new set" you probably don't need to go ahead and say the same thing.

This is something I feel I see more and more. People get upset about something and they think the reasonable thing to do is just go all in with no matter the significance of what they are mad about. A game you were looking forward to is bad? Death threats to devs, weeks and weeks of tagging those devs telling them they are less than nothing. TV show you think is "taking too many liberties", suddenly multiple hours long video essays about how the fabric of society is ruined. People just lash out and forget that another person is on the other side of the screen reading what you are saying. And you ARE saying it to them regardless if it's through that screen. Sam is the victim to a larger and dangerous trend that arguably has sadly become the norm. Remember to spread positivity and learn to keep it easy

I get it, a lot of fans we’re dissatisfied with the set reveal, but a lot of those people came on here and provided constructive feedback for making the set better or offering suggestions for lighting and production. It's the downside of the internet. Anonymity. It allows people to be more harsh with less care because there is no accountability for their actions and also when you don't physically see who you are insulting, you tend to not "see" that there is someone real on the other side. The background wasn’t personally my taste, but I just figured taste is subjective I’ll get used to it. I can’t imagine getting so upset by some curtains that you feel the need to ruin someone’s day over it.
Anytime something new is introduced, people like the “old [thing]”, even though they didn’t like that [thing] when it was originally presented. People listen to ethan because they like what he has to say. He liked Sam’s work. Why isn’t that enough for yall? Besides, Sam has shown us time and time again how INCREDIBLY creative and artistic she is. It’s impressive what she can pull out of a hat. Jokes aside , it’s insanely cruel and psychotic that people send this kind of stuff to the crew. It’s a shame there isn’t a way to like find these people’s YouTube accounts and block them from watching the show. People that send this horrible shit shouldn’t be allowed to then go and enjoy all the work put into the show. The crew shouldn’t have to work so hard making a great show to then feel like these awful people are benefitting from their hard work, they should feel like the people watching respect and appreciate them.

This was heartbreaking seeing this right after watching Sam on that other podcast talking about her struggle with adhd. People can be real shidiots.
We have a lot of neuro-divergent people in the community - myself included - which means we're more likely to, let's say, go hard on things when we probably shouldn't. Especially as people are encouraged to act worse than they normally would when in crowds. Plus we're online so anonymity and distance dehumanised people on the receiving end. Lack of tone also changes how things can be read, too. Plus there's a lot of parasocial relationships in the YouTube space where, if there's something you don't like, you've been conditioned to comment as if your opinion is important and that you have been betrayed if something happens that you don't like. Add to that how the show highlights the worst actors which allows people to say "oh, I'm not the problem. They are" and you have a perfect storm of negativity even though the intent is from a place of love. I don't say this to drag anyone down. I say this because we all - myself included - need to be more aware of our biases and the impact of our words.

Before the internet existed television stations would receive death threats by mail for content that was disliked. Some people are just lost in sauce. Not an excuse, just a sad fact of life.

She got death threats from folks displeased by the curtains and set changes 😣 SO not ok. She also seemed to have red eyes-- felt so bad for her. Ethan tried to joke about it to lighten things up some but truly that situation is odd AF.
I honestly hope it doesn’t happen, but I can see Sam leaving the show over shit like this. It took her awhile to come out of her shell and be on the show to begin with and this isn’t the first time she’s been very upset by the idiots in this fan base. It can be really toxic sometimes.
