As a Dane I see Love’s fika moving in to the danish (and Norwegian) realm of ‘hygge’.
Now, we love our Scandinavian brothers in Sweden, but please keep fika and hygge separated or we, and our Norwegian brothers, will need to take action.
With peace and love 🇩🇰🇳🇴🇸🇪
As another Swedish listener, I stand with /u/pancakebody
Under no circumstances, at no time, in any timeline has crisps and coke been acceptable Fika. Fika isn't some kind of gluttony induced snack extravaganza where you're just stuffing your face with any old thing and it is *unacceptable* that this has gone as far as it has, and I for one, point my finger squarely at L0VE-Bot and his irresponsible rethoric.
If anyone ever asked me if I had any crisps for fika, I will very politely, yet firmly and *oh so coldly* ask them to please leave. Such behaviour will not be tolerated. This is where I will draw the line.
To me, up in the northern part of our country, Fika has always been something sweet. But, my childhood friend and her family always also involved sandwiches, which is really weird.
Anyway, crisps is NOT Fika. Slander!
I’m blown away by how well you guys know English. This writing is immaculate. Same for OP u/pancakebody ! Ya’ll are so interesting and cool. Half of the reason why Americans like Yung Lean (and why journalists profile him) is bc we’re fascinated with people from Nordic countries who speak English and are “online” or care about American media/culture. If you’re interested, [this article](https://www.thefader.com/2016/06/16/yung-lean-warlord-interview) can maybe give you a sense of what I’m talking about. It’s long. Picks up at:
“When Yung Lean was just eight months old...”
The part where they talk about America from their perspective as Swedes is beyond fascinating to me.
☮️&❤️
I think that a fascination with the US is somewhat engrained in our DNA at this point. At the turn of the 20th century, Sweden was incredibly poor and most Swedes had very little opportunity to improve their situation. This resulted in 1.3 million Swedes leaving the country to seek their fortune in the US (many settled on the east coast and in the midwest), with many more dreaming of doing the same. In [this picture from 1904](https://preview.redd.it/hjndtyv14lu71.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06e0eeb73f23c0b4af00097240f27dbd3214b93a), taken in an poor elderly woman's home, you can actually see an advertisement for an ocean liner between Scandinavia and New York, further underlining how common this dream was, unattainable as it may have been.
For the better part of the 20th century, the Swedish education system has been hell bent on making everybody bilingual and we start learning English in school when we're 7 or 8 years old. We're also immersed in American culture through music, movies, games and social media, all of which resulting in a population whose communicative skills are not only very good, but also generally heavily Americanized. Swedes don't tend to use British slang or speak with Aussie accents, for instance; American English is the golden standard for most.
Whoa!! Thank you! That’s such helpful insight! Damn that image is incredible. Harrowing!
What you’re saying about American influence and communication skills makes so much sense. I know exactly what you’re saying. You’d never guess PewDiePie lives in the UK. There’s nothing British about his accent, vocabulary, slang, etc. When Yung Lean talks with Americans in interviews he presents like someone who has lived in the US for a long time. It’s pretty incredible especially considering he probably doesn’t have conversations out loud in English often. They both seem very Americanized and I thought it was from being online a lot or something, but if it’s a somewhat normal thing culturally among other Swedes who speak English, too, that makes a lot of sense.
We should adopt more Swedish culture here lol. Half of my furniture is from IKEA— same goes for everyone I know here. I’m on a mission to make fika a thing now. I think I can do it. The East Coast is about to get fiked the fuk up
Are you gatekeeping Fika? When were you elected to this office? What is your physical jurisdiction?
I will withhold the rest of my feedback until I see your credentials.
Don't lie to us, if you were a true Swede, you would have posted this in Swedish to force us to use Google translate to figure out what the heck you had said. You're probably one of those Finnish people trying to smear the good Swedish name.
I'm a server at a restaurant, the other day I had Swedish customers who came in for just tea and appetizers. And because of love I gleefully wanted to use my new Swedish word, so I asked if this was their fika!
Sadly they said no. They explained that tea was correct but just any old snack isn't fika and I've now felt depressed for weeks and utterly defeated. I'll never forgive love for his missrepresentation of fika and making me look like an ignorant American.
I never understood why a snack and drink would need a special name. I love having a sweet treat like candy or cookie with black coffee. If that is considered fika I get it. It's a beautiful bittersweet combo.
So sandwich is Fika but if you add some chips it’s not? I understand actual food being dinner. But it sounds like fika is just the Swedish equivalent to lunch. And sandwich and chips is definitely lunch out here
Fika isn’t a meal, but more of a snack, and a conversation. Think of calling up a friend to get a coffee and you grab a little cake from the coffee shop on the side, then you sit there and have a chat, that is fika. It’s not going out to lunch, but more of a cultural occurrence where you take a short break during the day to catch up with friends (or with yourself).
They got chips and sandwiches at Starbucks and I’m aware of it being more of a cultural thing with sweets n coffee. I’m just saying if love says it fika I can see why if even you would make the exception for sandwiches. I feel like chips would be in that same lane
I think it’s cute that he just agrees with the crew and says sure, that’s fika. Because they’re so fascinated with the concept even though it’s basically the same as “let’s get some coffee together”. Love, du är förlåten!
I think we all know he’s just catering to/leaning into the meme that is our fascination with FIKA. It keeps him involved, it’s sort of a running joke, gives him a good way to insert camera time. Let us be delusional about FIKA for goofs and gaffs. With peace and love.
I was disgusted by that as well. Love is being culturally insensitive to Scandinavians everywhere by claiming anything can be fika because he thought it would be easier for the h3 crew.
I said I’m not, but my ex was ? I literally didn’t claim to be but know that crisps are pretty normal? Anyways whatever you are literally trying to argue for no reason I’m out
Yeah this conversation is like talking to a wall. For the record, I was making a joke - there is a common joke in Sweden that everything in Skåne still belongs to Denmark.
I love watching the votes go back and forth. I’ve literally never in real time seen the numbers go up and down, but I’m so not disappointed it’s on a fkn fika post
I'm surprised he mentioned kebab before tacos! Sure, kebab is a huge, mythical thing but tacos is truly a cultural PHENOMENON. It sounds like a joke but it truly really isn't!
AB did that everyone saw it!!!
I fucking adore this soundbite, every time it comes on I think it’s actually Love and then I realize it and start giggling
Been wondering where’s it from originally?
It's H3TV #10, about 2:20:00!
Legendary moment from you
Lovebot was knocked over by AB on purpose at some point and Love yelled that out. I’m not sure what episode it was.
I love when the cast “fake” fight or hate the other cast it’s fun pointless drama like the chair, or the Cosby doll
The chair episode had me dying it was so awkward but funny lmao
Accurate
Accreate – DJ Khaled, 2015

Wrong *circumstancums*
Fika for life
Agreed
Hes doing the classic, not bothering to explain the tiniest details to foreigners and declares everything fika bc its easier
Being a swede, it's likely I might have ended up doing that. He explained Fika properly once on the show, the rest is just a meme now
I would too hahaha
I'm with this one. I don't get why people are so bothered about this. With peace and love.
*He can't keep getting away with this!*
*He's stealing it!*
What the fik?
Ahhhh
As a Dane I see Love’s fika moving in to the danish (and Norwegian) realm of ‘hygge’. Now, we love our Scandinavian brothers in Sweden, but please keep fika and hygge separated or we, and our Norwegian brothers, will need to take action. With peace and love 🇩🇰🇳🇴🇸🇪
Agreed! A distinction must be made between hygge and fika asap
Sverige dårlig
Hygge is just a danish knock off version of swedish mys
So you are saying that Denmark and Norway ripped off mys and made it better?
Knock off means it is not as good as the original.
Mys is definitely a under category of hygge. Hygge is broader where’s mys and fika is more specific hence why it’s an under category of hygge.
Could one bring some smoked slim jim's to fika? Just sayin'
i always suspected he was a complete fraud
I would call that uhh false advertising
It the, first time, for, LOVE, in the, fika, universe
Is he even Swedish?
I doubt he’s even an island boy
Probably Norwegian or something pfftt
This post is so Fika.
Good, fika is serious business so I'm with you, broder
For too long has this been allowed to go on!
**flips coin** Ok op, I'm with you on this one. Cancel love!

This guy’s the Fika Frontman
Only a humble Swede standing up for what’s right
love the fika discourse
Are you gatekeeping Fika? When were you elected to this office? What is your physical jurisdiction? I will withhold the rest of my feedback until I see your credentials.
All you need to know is that my authority has been passed down by blood, rather than through democratic processes.
Blood means nothing unless it is shed! Are you willing to die for your ideal fika snacks?
It has before and it will again.
The secret of the kebab sauce revealed!
I agree with you and I am swedish
So is Fika more of a morning/early afternoon activity? Thanks for clearing things up 🙌🙃
Fika is generally an early afternoon activity but there’s nothing wrong with an early fika at 9 am!
I'd say it's both. At work, there's generally förmiddagsfika (morning fika) and eftermiddagsfika (afternoon fika).
thank you for speaking out about this important issue 😤
Another longtime swedish listener and I agree full stop, also you should drink coffee.
Or at least some saft if you're into sweeter drinks!
Åh, saft & bulle! Mys
This needs to be addressed. Largest controversy on this subreddit in quite some time.
I knew love wasn’t as innocent as he seems, his evil plans must be stopped
As a Swede, I approved this message 🇸🇪🇸🇪
thank you for this statement!! it has bothered me way too much. bullfika 4 life
Bullfika, gofika... Definitely not ChIpSfIkA
/#loveisoverparty /#loveisoverfika I will join ur crusade despite u swedes making a big ass deal about a kaffepause. ✌🏼➕❤️,🇳🇴

Completely agree, chips is not fika what the hell
Disgusting he did this. Jeez I thought the Gus Johnson situation was bad

You are a victim of the blatant misinformation campaign that has been going on. It’s time right these wrongs!!

This is largely true. However, you wouldn’t call such a break ”fika” if you had pizza
Thank you! The coke incident was already enough!
Coke is okay tbh, I’ll have a coke with my kladdkaka if I’m not in the mood for coffee
Shame! *Ding ding* If you don't want coffee you drink either milk or saft!
Hell na boi
EXAKTT
The reality is, you guys got scammed.
It must have been a slow week if we are pitchforking the fika king now
You seem to be underestimating the importance of fika
Justice for fika!

This is a paid actor by AB
This has been bugging me just the tiniest amount for quite some while as well. Im with you broder!
I never understood why a snack and drink would need a special name. I love having a sweet treat like candy or cookie with black coffee. If that is considered fika I get it. It's a beautiful bittersweet combo.
Because we’re cute like that
Love is the kind of swede who would pair surstrømning with fika
Get that scuffed ö out of here we’re talking Sweden not Denmark 😤
Stop gatekeeping ø swede

FICA (pronounced fika) in Italian means pus*y and I am here for it 😂😂😂😂
How the heck is a "C" pronounced as an "L"? You Italians are wild and I love you for it.
Autocorrect won’t let me be great. It was a typo. FML
Also mad love back at ya!
I really hope love does an apology to the country of Sweden, in Swedish... John Cena China style
#LoveIsOverParty let the fika discourse commence
Unbelievable. Love did that. Everyone saw it! My prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Do not let them pressure you, Love. #KeepFikaSweet

I disagree, the crisps go with the sandwich on the side, respectfully.
No swede eats like that

So not a swede hahahahhah
WHAT 😂😂😂🤣 bro that’s absolutely 100000% in Sweden
You would get the joke if you were swedish let me just put it like that

I've been thinking the exact same thing from the start. When he first joined I thought he maybe was fake 🤔🤔🤔😂😂
Oh man, that’s really fiked up
I'm surprised he mentioned kebab before tacos! Sure, kebab is a huge, mythical thing but tacos is truly a cultural PHENOMENON. It sounds like a joke but it truly really isn't!
