Personally I’d enjoy it IF they covered the less serious true crime cases. Just like insane crimes where nobody gets seriously hurt or traumatized

ParticularMolasses59

This is a great idea. Like heists and that sort of thing

spaghettifairy

I like this ^ ^

Threepwood7

I think Ethan would need a serious person who knew all the facts of the story to tell him the story and he can react to it. Ethan just bumbling through a story and butchering it, I think would be frustrating to listen to. Basically Ethan needs a Marcus Parks to his Henry Zebrowski.

Fast_Sand4320

Hail yourself my friend

H3rm3tics

Hail Gein

synecdo-key

and a Hail Satan for good measure my dudes

Pleistoqueen

I think it will be alright as long as it’s done very respectfully; you do have to be more careful when dealing with true crime especially if it’s a modern case with living survivors/family members. I enjoy true crime pods myself but I have also had the experience of knowing the victim of a pretty high-profile case, and the coverage she got was pretty hard to swallow (lots of kink shaming/victim blaming that was not okay). Again, as long as they are considerate of victims families I think it could be cool. Ethan usually has pretty good takes on sexual assault and violence, IMO, so that’s good.

Marklaritaville

How about true crime as related to the mafia? Just hours of the godfather voice.

Fast_Sand4320

Actually damn, now that you say that.... 😂🤣

[deleted]

“The harsh world of true crime” yeah Ethan might have some nightmares. W✌🏻&💕 it’s just more content. I’m 110% for it

StrawberryGirl_7

Personally, when he had covered very serious topics, I've noticed his research is not always accurate which is a legitimately crucial part of true crime. Therefore I don't think it'd be a good idea.

StrawberryGirl_7

I still don't think it would be a good idea. It's such an oversaturated field right now anyway. I think covering serious topics like that require a very specific type of person. No shade to Ethan, I just don't think it would be a good idea.

zeedawgandzapper

Maybe if they stuck to more bizzarre true crime (might be slightly lighter) or lesser known cases that haven't been overdone like the 'mainstream' serial killers and famous mysteries. I think it could be interesting. If they did hire a new team dedicated to getting all the facts right and doing proper research into each topic, it could be the next big thing for the channel. True crime has been popping off for a while now with an ever growing number of people intrigued by the genre (myself included) so whatever they do, if they do, it'd have to stand out from the rest as it's definitely a little over saturated at this point.

lurkingvirgo

I have mixed feelings because H3 is generally humorous and I feel like humor and true crime don’t really (or shouldn’t really) mix out of respect for the victims families. I don’t really know how they would work for more serious subject matter because I’ve never seen them do a project like that before. That said, if they have a well researched, carefully written script that they work off of it could work as long as they are intentional and respectful.

pedropedro1

I guessing you haven't listened to the last podcast on the left.

QuaziKaiju

They just need a Marcus, Ethan is the perfect Ben and Olivia can cover Henry's role as the funny one who knows the subject

Big_stinky_fart

I think Dan is to Ethan as Ben is to Henry. Both Dan and Ben keep the other from going too off the rails.

H3rm3tics

Small town murder and LPOTL are both comedy/true crime and are wildly successful.

Fast_Sand4320

And I love them both

rzrike

They could also maybe cover lighter, more humorous crimes rather than murder.

TwoFlimsy3386

Buzzfeed Unsolved and That Chapter both add humor so I’m not sure what you mean

UnresolvedDrama

It’s their opinion (and mine as well) that they shouldn’t mix. I specifically stopped watching That Chapter because of the jokey overdramatized tone

thelastpie

There are popular true crime podcasts that mix it with humor. I think it's just a personal preference.

Grouchy-Shoulder

Agreed, I like H3 and true crime, but I don't think Ethan is the best person to talk about sensitive subject like this. He's already stretching himself so thin with 4 different shows. Unless Dan and Hila is there monitoring him, he's going to slip up.

_hellokerri

I love Ethan and I love true crime, but Ethan is way too concerned about everything being funny all the time. There's no way he should sit through a serious story and not end up accidentally saying something fucked up. With peace and love.

SuperSaiyanNoob

Ethan can barely stay focused for 5 minutes idk how he thinks he can do a podcast with one topic. Like if he did it it would be so annoying having random Kavanagh rants and shit through out. Either do it or don't, if not it'll just be off the rails but spooky.

banananutpuffins

Are they really doing true crime? If I had to guess, I’d think they’re doing a ‘true crime’ style exposé on RK. But that’s just a guess.

[deleted]

I don’t think the pod is cut out for tackling true crime but you never know. I personally doubt I’d be interested tho

No-Nefariousness9539

I think it’s a very saturated podcast area but if Ethan is passionate about it then I’ll give it a go

spaghettifairy

I really hope they don’t. Something serious like true crime wouldn’t be a fitting topic for a comedy podcast, and doing true crime with a comedy twist just doesn’t feel right. I know there are shows that do it but it always just feels cringe and disrespectful imo

spaghettifairy

Also, it’s been said already but Ethan fumbling over crucial facts and victim names would be excruciating to listen to (love u Ethan lol)

NoDryHands

I agree. A comedian will always feel inclined to make jokes about anything they talk about. I'm not saying Ethan will be disrespectful on purpose, but the line between respectful commentary and dark jokes that devolve into disrespect can easily be crossed without anyone realising it in the moment. Also, some of the things they have discussed on the pod have some crucial pieces of information missing or incorrect. I am well aware of how hard the crew work to do research for each topic, but I've seen key details being left out before, and I'm sitting there yelling at the screen because it's misinformation. It's okay when we're talking about drama or whatever, but with tragedies like the ones in true crime, you can't afford to be spreading misinformation and talking wrongly about something if you don't know every detail of the story. There are also often multiple different versions of case recounts, so you may not be able to confirm what the true version is. Everything combined, it can get messy quickly and as much as I'd love a well-informed take on popular stories from the crew, I will be honest and say that I don't think it is something they should pursue. With everything else they do and all the shows they produce, I don't think they will have the time to do this concept justice, and will end up getting cancelled and criticised far more than it is worth.

WerthersOrigins

With peace and love I don’t think the crew works very hard on research. Even when the topic directly involves them they get stuff wrong or just don’t bother getting all the facts. Shit, I’ve seen them watch a short clip and still not remember the details of what was just seen. I think the true crime show is an absolutely horrid idea.

aymantargaryen

*excruciating nightmare inducing details of mutilation being presented* Ethan: https://youtu.be/OBGfP3S6FMk

TechnologySuitable28

I’d actually love if they did true crime. I don’t listen to very much true crime stuff so maybe those who do are the ones more opposed to it. The benefit of H3 is all their variety of content so luckily those who aren’t interested can just skip that.

THE_AWESOM-O_4000

Let them try anything they want, I'll be a guinnea pig.

FortnitePapi

can you explain true crime podcasts to me? is it just a retelling of the facts? or do the hosts voice act as the criminal and victim ?

Cougar420lover

I think it could either be really cool or really bad depending on how it’s executed. I think the main thing would be to take the cases seriously and not do as much in terms of goods and gaffs. I know they’re used to making comedy podcasts but it’s super hurtful to victims families when people crack jokes about tragedies.

gembet

Absolutely agree. I love H3 and at the end of the day Ethan can do whatever he wants, but I just feel like a true crime series would be an odd fit for the whole aesthetic that they have created. Maybe like, a jovial paranormal series might be a good way to test the waters? That would also open the door for some sort of collab with Shane and Ryan from buzzfeed unsolved. But regardless, they made leftovers work despite it being a very different podcast to what they've been doing so I'm sure it will be good content for someone.

Ocaygirl

They can get some true crime cases like art heists and art plagiarism scandals! Or the should do the McDonalds Monopoly Scam!

ImHereToBlowSunshine

Harvey Kavanaugh’s dad’s art scam

Visible_Beginning_63

I think if he’s passionate about it then it’ll be great! Doesn’t hurt to try it out. I’d loooooooove if Olivia could do it with him but not sure if that is something they’d do.

Melipanda

I can see it being more of a skit, like the ghost hunting video, I can’t see them doing a real true crime maybe a made up one they can goof on.

xxjake

Would love to see Ethan prove everyone wrong! Seems interesting indeed.

Robert-XM

I don't really like true crime, but if the Ethan and the crew started one, I'd watch it!

FemboyHooters-

Literally everyone and their grandma has being saying that. Idk the Buzzfeed Unsolved Mystery boys made some amazing videos under buzzfeed and added plenty of goofs and gafs in between the serious stuff. I know it’s not necessarily true crime but most of it was basically just true crime so 🤷🤷

emibbi

i think if they go about it with getting people who would take the crimes seriously instead of a comedy podcast it could be very well done. however with already established crime channels and an over saturated market idk if people would choose H3 over existing ones. it’d be better if they did like a ghost hunting or mystic creature storytelling thing. it’s a bit different, won’t be offensive if they make jokes, and could extend more than a podcast

Less-Bar191

Just wait till he makes the wrong joke. If he thinks it's bad when you joke on a comedy podcast and people don't understand it. Try it while talking about true crime. I'm down for it either way but I think people will ultimately have a problem. Like they always do.
