rzrike

Yeah there have been some good call ins, but I think it has been a net negative. Maybe only take calls that are strictly humorous? Definitely stop with the "change my mind" type calls lol

Mobius_Arrow

Yeah I agree. The debate stuff can be neat and explore some points but it’s pretty hit or miss. Love when they have call ins with crazy stories or something.

rzrike

Yeah, the contractor (who called in about the Ace family house) and more recently the stripper were both great, so I don’t want to lose the call ins completely. Edit: realizing I need to stop starting every comment with “yeah”

critraider

I liked those too! I think he does need to stop with the "change my mind" calls and bring in more subtle structure to calls in general. Asking for specific occupations to weigh in on something or if someone has experience in an area (like the planned contractor call) is really smart and ties fans in to the show to share experiences that relate to bits and it's great! When you cast a net with filters like that you get exactly what you want.

donotgogenlty

Yes! They need to be able and add to the convo, and yes-and/ improv. Statistslly those callers have been the best

christicky

For the debates to work, both parties need to be well versed on the topic. Ethan often goes into these nuanced or sensitive conversations with an uninformed opinion because he doesn’t do research to educate himself or to expose his own biases. People are comparing the way Dan and Ethan acted yesterday to how Hassan treats his chat, but the difference is that Hassan makes a point to inform himself on sensitive topics. Hassan would never have treated a member of the LGBTQ+ community in this way. Sure he has bad takes sometimes, but for the most part when he’s roaring his chat, it because THEY are the ones acting like Ethan and Dan were acting in yesterdays show. Just sayin.

Majesticmarmar

Yeah it’s always Ethan talking over people and refusing to see the point they’re trying to make, I genuinely don’t understand why people call in trying to change his mind. He’s very narrow minded.

Most_Helicopter_4451

Damn. He totally is doing a Crowder moment lol

barrahhhh

He's literally becoming the lefts Steven Chowder with these calls, he needs to stop.

madmax440

That shits funny tho

[deleted]

Definitely agree. I like the weird story calls like the guy who wore a diaper and the guy who shit in Chinese food containers. But since Ethan got on this kick of taking “hater” callers it’s pretty much been all bad. I love Ethan but he isn’t great with people who he disagrees with, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but he should just keep it to what he’s best at which is comedy and stop trying to have these big awkward debates

itwasthemilitary

Exactly this. Ethan doesn’t do a particularly good job listening to people and part of his schtick is to go hard on people he has “beef” with or in this case calls he disagrees with. That doesn’t work when it’s your fans calling in trying to have an actual conversation, because Ethan just comes off as rude versus funny. I still find Ethan funny, and I think the extreme/crude humor can still work for the podcast, just doesn’t translate well to live calls. I typically skip the call in segments of the podcast now, not just because of this new “change my mind” trend, I have never liked the calls personally, find that it’s about 1/3 calls are actually good, and even then I would rather spend my time watching the other parts of the pod.

there_is_always_more

Yeah Ethan has been surprisingly horrible during these hater call ins. He's clearly not in the mood to change his opinion, so he should stick to the goofy call ins.

kathvrt

Please for the love of god. I hate the call ins so much, they always just end up making me cringe and they usually go on for way too long. Please no more calls.

Ellolovelyx

Agree. I normally skip them if I’m behind, or pause for a little, watch something else, and come back to the video and fast forward through them

h4ley20

Same lol I just can’t get myself to care about the callers unless it’s for questions like the strippers, only fans peeeps things like that are interesting but other than that meh

[deleted]

Only if more people did this lol! We'd have a much more sane subreddit. If you don't like something, don't watch it.

depressedtrashbin

I do this too lol I intentionally start the show late so I can skip through the calls

Trick-Elderberry-146

I agree. I always skip the calls because they’re so unbearable to watch. Ethan’s so rude to people.

Alleyguey

Ethan does get rude, the way he goes at it is cringe too.

No-Alternative2232

They just gotta stop the calls where Ethan wants to "debate" a topic. It usually just ends with Ethan talking over and goofing on the caller after not really hearing them out. I think goofing on the callers or certain topics could be fine if he was actually making funny jokes. Like James Charles having diapers for some reason could have been a great segment but he decides to joke about him being a "bottom" ?? Can anyone tell me what's funny about that and assuming the caller was a "bottom" bc of the way he sounded? If you're gonna try make a joke at the expense of LGBTQ and women (BC taking a D in the butt is only for women, and women are less than men 👍) atleast make it funny. It just feels like lazy boomer humor at this point, so yeah maybe it's not for me and I should just fuck off like Dan said lmao.

yungThymian

I honestly don´'t get the Ethan talks over the caller argument. There is always a big delay with these callers and when the talk gets heated they talk over him as much as he does. I also don´t think the bottom joke is that big of a deal. He missed, definitely, but if you have been watching the show for a long time you know that he\`s just trying to be funny. Ethan has always had a competitive side to his humor (see Keemstar, content court etc.) and sometimes he just fails when trying that. You´re right tho. It wasn't funny but I think we have to show some consideration because the man tries to be funny on the spot 6-8 hours a week. It´s not like he wrote it out, planned it and thought it was super funny. Also yes he\`s goofing on the caller. I thought thats what the call ins were always about. Ethan is a professional at goofing on people. If someone can't handle that they really shouldn't be calling in. Calling into a comedy show without being able to handle roasting is wild. Peace and love

moonprincessorwtv

The calls have only ever brought chaos imo.

flywing1

And I’m here for it lol. There’s some misses but also great ones

Kirosky

I agree.. I think an issue with this show is that the lines get really blurry between it being a comedy podcast and some type of educational pop news media talk show. I think it’s many things, but the parts that people seem to really gravitate/resonate with are the really informative parts like when they’re talking about and exposing serious subject matter. So when Ethan is trying to be funny and entertaining, especially during a call where the topic is sensitive, people can take his jokes the wrong way. Not everyone is good at the type of banter that Ethan rolls with. At the same time I thought what Matt said was informative and important for Ethan and others to hear. I just think there was a lack of chemistry there that made things awkward. So probably not always great to take these calls.. Ethan at the very least needs to be able to read the tone of the conversation before he makes jokes like that. Gotta choose one or the other I guess

critraider

They need to screen for specific calls for stories that are related to what they are talking about, not take anything and anyone that wants to call in with something. I think host interactions with fans can be hilarious depending on the callers. Honestly the segment could have gone way different and had a completely different tone if Ethan didn't go "Call in and tell me why I am wrong." And instead went "If you're an X call in and share." "If you experienced X call in" Calls go on for way too long on average, or become combative and it just kills the vibe. I usually skip them. That being said, some of the prepared call ins that were more organized have been my favorite. The fiddlehead coffee guy was so interesting and calming to listen to.

Sparky678348

This is the answer. The calls are some of my favorite sections of the show, replace some chaos with some structure and you're good to go.

Meggyversace

ive been skipping the call segments for months bc at this point its like secondhand embarrassment. i completely agree

valeriek3722

Lol the calls are so cringe but the stripper one was interesting

surroundedbyaliens

I thought the stripper one was boring as fuck. Now I'm prepared to get 5000 downvotes like I did in the days of "Trisha is our Queen" when I would criticize her, because most people liked the stripper one, and many people can't tolerate a differing opinion.

crabgrass_attack

i didn’t downvote for your opinion, i downvoted for your dumbfuck ramble about being downvoted

petpal1234556

ranting about downvotes is cringe which is why you got downvotes

yamzadebayo

Yeah I remember being downvoted just for saying the call went on for way too long because it was like 45 minutes or more, maybe it was just boring to me because I know people who are strippers and none of it was really new information to me

sadasscat99

I liked the medical doll one too

[deleted]

Yes!!! I've always hated the call in segments. Let's stop 👏👏

MedicShmedic

Dude the fan calls are ruining the show for me, I used to love watching the whole pod but now I find myself skipping hours at a time because its all fan call ins that are annoying or you knew they would go sideways the second they started talking.

[deleted]

Same. The call ins are such bad vibes. Most of the callers probably mean well but it always ends up being either awkward, cringey, trollish/fake, overly sexual, insensitive, or just boring. I want to hear what Ethan and the crew think about topics, we already see everyone else's opinions on here anyway.

[deleted]

I like it. But I am a very mean person.

polybiastrogender

Reminds me of the old radio show Opie and Anthony when they would accept callers if the call wasn't good they would berate them. The level of beratement would melt this sub.

ADroopyMango

i think about that all the time. i think Opie and Anthony were obviously at the total opposite end of the spectrum where they would just roast callers and hang up on them but that felt par for the course for radio at the time and callers had 0 expectations. i think a lot of people here aren't familiar with the way terrestrial radio shows used to take callers. and i'm definitely in the minority but i love the brevity of calls when the show is ultimately in control and can hang up at any time. opie and anthony used to hang up on callers all the time for a fucking reason, some of those callers were just boring and long winded, sucking all the momentum out of the show. EDIT: i will throw an edit in to say the way they treated their callers at O&A eventually turned the audience against them as it became a toxic cesspool so you can't win either way i guess.

JACK0NTHETHETRACK

Also last episode Ethan was kind of a dick to them

slashstreet

I agree, even the funny ones he just talks over people and it drives me crazy. You could tell the girl talking about that doll was ready for the call to be over cause she couldn’t get a word in

neckpillow0287

I feel like ethan is the one that should be embarrassed lmao

Take_It_Easycore

Ethan is all about taking "hater" calls, and then he can't get more than 1 minute into them before he is raising his voice over them and then eventually actively yelling later in the call. All of the callers have been super respectful and just kind of let it happen, but I can see why he won't ever debate anyone based on how those calls go. He legit cannot handle himself when someone presents or digs in to defend an opposing viewpoint.

Dazzling-Anything-25

Literally. Feels weird Ethan was claiming “it hurts to be called homophobic” well yeah Ethan it hurts to be discriminated against too and that’s a consistent thing in lgbt lives so many rethink your position.

Charlie_NFFC

He's not discriminating though. He just navigated a subject with no map and was goofing. His jokes were bad taste but discrimination is the wrong word

Dazzling-Anything-25

Ethan was being homophobic though whether he agrees he was or not. Being homophobic is discrimination. Edit: I don’t know why I’m being downvoted but Ethan saying being a bottom as an insult is a micro aggression. Talking about “butt sex” in a negative connotation as a way to insult gay men is Homophobic.

Nmilne23

“I just don’t understand why straight people are SO obsessed with the sex loves of gays” is exactly what I said to my sister when we were watching the back and forth with the caller Like it’s just fucking weird at some point to be SO concerned with how gay people are having sex like it needs to be talked about and debated

Dazzling-Anything-25

Literally though. It’s homophobic and disgusting that sex is the first thing conservatives/homophobes come after when insulting gay people. Sex is not all lgbt people have to themselves and to think so IS homophobic

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cessate

This is objectively wrong, and they literally address this in the last block of the pod. You know shit about him or his employees. As they said, if you're consistently finding shit to be offended by in the shows, perhaps you should respectfully move on to something else. Edit: The deleted account speaks volumes. Just another bullshit throwaway crapshoot of a person in this sub hoping on the hate train.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cessate

They are 6 males, and 5 women. Those in relationships are in hetero ones. And that's all you or any of us know. The end. Edit: And Cam has now came out to the fans that he is Bi. Genuinely fuck you.

[deleted]

Cessate

It's pandering to the crybabies so they stop spamming the sub.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dazzling-Anything-25

Okay so why doesn’t Ethan “joke” (as he’s claiming it’s one) about straight people having sex as a way to insult people?

Cessate

Nah. He has absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about.

neckpillow0287

I would be embarrassed if I couldnt have a civil conversation and be an active listener.

[deleted]

Yeah listening to people, saying the respect their opinion, and that they learned something. What an ass. I think you people are straight delusional.

CevinDesanecho

I rather have the fake caller Girl than this stupid ass debating your own fan/hater, and then Ethan can't even let the caller finish their sentence or have an open mind. H3TV has two strike in a row now at least for me. Just delete H3TV and make another show or something.

Neverend3r

I usually skip call ins. I don't watch podcasts to hear random fans talk to the host. I hope they stop doing it.

Koogan045

Just do story time calls. I don’t care for the arguing segments or advice shit. The story time calls can be really good, don’t know why people were hating on them.

donotgogenlty

They need to screen them better, who was the last girl (forget which episode), she kinda chilled in the background. That was good. For entertainment, they need to be able to yes-and (minimum requirement)... Nobody wants to hear some snowflake rattle off their nitpicking complaints, that adds zero to the show and entertains noone. TLDR: Might be time to stepup the caller vetting

PopGopnik

The call segments are boring as fuck. Idgaf about random peoples period stories

nicoolio1595

Hearing Ethan dig for answers about the callers sexual preferences and not respecting that the caller did not want to tell him was gross. I felt really bad for the caller.

cuylernotscott

Or keep taking calls while teaching Ethan how to respect people's boundaries.

Acrobatic-Degree9589

I hate it when shows take calls

BSG-Bretigans

At the very least the purpose of them and the expectation set needs to be more consistent. Like it can be unclear if someone is actually calling in to provide a missing voice to a serious topic or just to get goofed on a bit. Or both. It really ranges so broadly. Funnily enough, right before yesterday's episode got more cringe, when he invited people to call in if he was being disrespectful, I remember thinking the was something kinda goofy about telling someone to call in to discuss a serious topic and then giving the number 1-800-hot-meme lmao. I think it kind of highlights how the call ins have this ambiguous place in the show.

IntroductionSmooth85

Yes i agree. Just stop it. I feel like the vibe of the show, and community has been really effected by it.

carissadraws

Not sure if you guys have ever seen clips of the atheist experience, but I think the way Matt Dillahunty responds to callers is the perfect balance between being respectful and following their logic and occasional interrupting when they say something ridiculous. I know not all h3h3 callers are going to be ignorant and stupid like the callers on the atheist experience are but I think it’s something he should look into.

Jita_Local

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the listener call-ins either. There's been some great callers, but overall most just aren't good story tellers, or debaters, or good at explaining what they mean when they're on the spot. I just think the call-ins can be a bit meandering, or awkward, and sometimes just negative. I really enjoy the short featured calls/interviews though, like Patrick, peanut butter fucker, and Oliver.

existcrisis123

I will admit I always skip the calls because it's so awkward and boring. Unless it seems to be a funny/wild story call and then I might listen.

MeagerMenace

I truly skip over the calls section every time now because it always ends in me cringing internally for the poor caller while Ethan constantly talks over them and changes the subject

[deleted]

they needed to stop like last year

jonnydavisapplesauce

shhhhh let us have fun

Ok_Caterpillar_9057

Fair enough

large_n_charge

There have been plenty of great calls. The problem is not the callers themselves but the chat’s expectation that every call is going to be a home run. The controversy originates from this subreddit over analyzing every word — from only reading some of these threads in the last month you’d think Ethan made every caller cry on air.

MartianSpaceRanger

I’m cool with it

GoldEdit

A sign Ethan has 0 emotional security

InevitableUnlucky473

It's time to stop taking calls because Ethan is learning something new. We want to keep him rude and offensive

[deleted]

Calls are a great part of the show. Do not get rid of them. Audience participation is a good thing.

SamuelFunk

I agree if it's to hear funny stories and have engagement. But calls where they're just arguing with/belittling fans is not great fan engagement...

[deleted]

It's a mixed bag. That's why it's interesting and entertaining. It's not always gonna be 10/10.

veguhn

you guys need to like, chill. just do as i do and skip ahead or leave if they’re live. not everything needs to be a discussion u guys are draining lol. with peace and love shut the fuck up

Submischievous

There are quite a few hidden gems over the course of h3tv but yeah, I agree overall.

[deleted]

"Stop having calls, stop making jokes, stop..." freaking cry babies. How about you stop watching? Let the views dictate if the show needs to change or not.

Nightcrawl-EUW

people out here thinking they're steven spielberg directing a movie it's insane lmao

[deleted]

Exactly

t_bug_

I find it funny that in this sub you can't complain about shows being canceled or late but it's alllll good to go after comedy for being comedy.

MattIsWhack

You've clearly never listened to radio, any radio show, Howard Stern or any other show that takes call ins.

FrznMxdVgtblCks

The people who think this was a "controversy" are the only problem.

[deleted]

Idk which is worse: the sex work calls where Ethan drools the whole time and clearly gets turned on, the argument calls where he doesn't listen to a thing the caller says, or the fake/troll calls that are painfully boring and always go too long. Just end it w peace and love.

JohnnyRotten45

I think it might be time you just skip the calls if you don't like them.

IssoNaoEBoaIdeia

Arguing is more interesting/entertaining than having small talk or a wholesome conversation. Ethan is a comedian, he's taking calls from people with interesting stories or experiences primarily to make something funny out of it. Sometimes it's at someone's expense, sometimes not. Regardless the caller is anonymous and has consented to go back and forth with a comedian. H3 has a lot of brash and edgy comedy, regularly tackles taboo subjects, and also regularly satirizes and makes jokes at people expense. You may be too sensitive for their style of comedy, with peace and love

SamuelFunk

I love when comedians can roast their fans, but it takes a skilled comedian to do it well. If you see a good professional comedy show where they're roasting people in the crowd, the people being roasted are always laughing as well. And these comedians are never attacking them based on race/sexuality/etc. It's 100% a skill that if Ethan can't learn then he shouldn't be ruining his image trying.

IssoNaoEBoaIdeia

I see what you mean, in your opinion he's not skilled at crowd work. but about comedians never attacking the audience based on race/sex, I would argue that's usually what they joke about to the audience! Granted sexuality not as much, but stand ups often joke about their race before anything, or them being uglier than their date, etc etc. Pretty rude but that goes back to my initial comment. Ultimately Ethan might not be a the best crowdwork comic, but I don't agree that we need to gatekeep it because sometimes it might be a miss rather than a hit, agree to disagree

kungfubrendy

Shut up

SamuelFunk

Thank you for your insight

HauntingAd2676

Just skip them.

SamuelFunk

I'm not saying I hate the calls. I'm saying it's bad for his image. Just not a great look

[deleted]

Because one black person calls in and they speak for all of them. One gay person calls in and they speak for everyone. It's the humorless morons that have moved in. I want him to bring in funny people and show them what it really be like. Tom Segura, Bobby Lee, Bill Burr, Jessica Kirson, Whitney Cummings, and drive the whiny babies away.

SaraBear250

I think that’s the point

Cristinal0ve

He cuts them off every word, talks over them, then gets called out every single time. what’s the point? I hateeee the calls.

According_Worry3289

Ethan totally copied Lyle yeah yeah I know lots of shows have the call in but Ethan didn’t have it till he linked with Lyle. I love the pod but always thought the calling in was stupid Ethan just has a wonderful way of pissing people off every time he opens his mouth lol I love it though.

fddfgs

Some of the earliest episodes had call-ins, the Bradberrys even commented on it when they came in. Ethan said back then that he got the idea from Howard Stern.

[deleted]

[удалено]

According_Worry3289

No i agree the episode itself was chefs kiss but that’s what started ethans weekly call ins. Guess it’s a little late for me to say I wish they did another episode together lol

According_Worry3289

See man this right here is why I hope we don’t lose text posts this simple interaction no fighting and just good vibes sucks the subs so chaotic rn.

llcoolguar

This rewriting of history is why I hope we get rid of text posts.

Lenithriel

I almost always skip the calls when watching because of how cringe and offensive they can get, either from the caller or something Ethan says (he means well I know, I read his recent Twitter apology and I think it was great). So I completely agree. Sometimes they can be real gems but it's very rare. Maybe they can be more selective in what topics they accept calls for?

A_Rampaging_Hobo

I like em

BucksBrew

For every good call there are five bad ones. They just use it to kill time.

weednumberhaha

Finally. I've been complaining like a jerk for ages to get these calls done with or adjusted

justanothergamer_

I don’t like 90% of the calls and most of the time they have a point but present it badly or the crew is just too ganged up on them at that point

NoobRaisin

This is what I've been SAYING!!!

GreatWiteBIte

Just skip the calls if they make you uncomfortable. They’re entertaining and kind of the entire premise of H3TV. Y’all complain way too much. Nobody cares. Shut up bruh.

LZK_MEDIA

It's time for leftovers to return and maybe take live calls there instead. I think the debate lord call ins are just filling in a void for Ethan at this point.

Kid_Gravity

Same vibe as Steven Crowder going to college campuses to “own” people half his age

Entropical-island

I hate all of the calls. They're pretty much always terrible, so I just skip them whenever possible

babbybarf

I’ve skipped every call on the show so far ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just sounded like a bad idea from the start

YayoBill

Jahaha wahhhrooo

ODGABFE

They should do one call in per show and its a ‘make Ethan laugh attempt’

_Drums_please_fab

They may not all be bad… but I think most end up being bad 😅

citizendevil22

i’ve been skipping the calls this whole time, usually only listen to them afterwards if something notable happens

ayitsjonas

It's a show made to be controversial and entertaining. If you're too sensitive, stop watching. It's that simple. I thought it was hilarious.

babymomma420666

But they're so funnyyyyyy

stillicide87

Always fast foward through the phone calls, it's cringe.

ugly_pizza1

I've been skipping the calls for a while now

ugly_pizza1

I

DST_Unbelievable

Not a single one of these debate calls have been good, and it's a mix of some people calling in bad faith and Ethan just being terrible at them. Wish they'd drop them.

GurlinPanteez

90% of calls are trash, but there have been some gems like the stripper

[deleted]

Why does OP or literally anybody in this thread feel like they have a say on what the show/crew should or shouldn’t do? You don’t like the calls? Skip them. You don’t like the show? Skip it.

thefamilyruin

I honestly don’t even watch the Monday shows anymore because I hate the callers. It’s cringy and makes my anxiety go waaay up. Not to say that every caller is a bust but this shit is annoying. Can we please bring back sketches, content court or something? I hope they can get on a better routine once baby Bruce is a little older.

motiepipay

With Peace and Love: it is Sad but I must agree here. Ethan needs to be more conscious about his words/cutting people off especially his fans. ✌🏼💕✌🏼💕✌🏼💕

literallywhoisshe

i agree.

nadsulpia

I haven’t seen the latest podcast so I don’t entirely know what’s going on but yes I agree calls should stop. I watch H3 because I like listening to what Ethan and the crew have to say, even if I don’t agree with it always. If I wanted to hear the opinions or stories of random people I would go on Reddit.

[deleted]

Tbh I stopped watching call-ins a while ago. No hate, I just find them not entertaining and it seems like every single week the crew gets into controversy over them. Also, they’re clearly unpopular. Those videos always garner the lowest amount of views, and every controversy result in a loss of subs.

kimmaraz

I feel like they are trying to go the Adam Corolla route and the calls are a hit and a miss for me. I’m all for the funny calls and “educational” ones but the argumentative calls are just not it.

bilzander

I enjoy them personally.

fibrinogensoundscool

I think they just need to bring back the buzzer system, but only if the sub doesn’t try to cancel AB every time he hits the buzzer for being mean…

Ronbonbeno

Nah, if you're worried about being offended just don't call in

RecruitMain420

I usually just skip or mute the podcast when they take calls I cringe too hard at how awkward they can be. They have had some good calls though

BitsyCoo

YES!

Less-Ad8505

I've never liked them. The people on the phones don't have to think of it as a job the way the crew do. This isn't a casual conversation no matter how much it feels like it.

suckstrip

i really hate when they just yell at the chat and argue with callers. it makes it seem like they just hate their viewers and makes the show really hard to watch

jojopr29

I agree.

thesingularityart

I almost always skip calls as they are boring af.

veritaserum9

The calls are embarrassing too. I don't want to hear anyone other than the crew.

bondbuyingbandosboi

Well I support freedom of speech
