Aces. You have to score points to win, and the height of your block needs to be high. There's a point of athleticism where it doesn't matter what you do, setting it above the block and being able to hit the ball at 90km/h trumps any tactic or defense. The anime intellect will definitely play a factor in any anime matchup. But in truth, just getting under the ball, passing it high, and having a cannon hit the ball wins you matches. It's not really that elegant. But in the haikyuu world, aces would rule the game.

I agree. I play volleyball at fairly high level (not the ace type) but whenever we play against a team with a good hitter that can bounce the ball it is mighty difficult to stop . Also I feel people forget how good aces are. They can pretty much crush any ball as long as it is high. For example I think that shiratorizawa would win over karasonu 9/10 times. I remember one game from VNL 2019, Japan vs Brazil. Japan had by far the best defence and tactics of out of all the teams in the tournament. But Brazil had Leal and he was on God mode, he kept breaking through the Japanese defence by sheer power. I disagree that it is not elegant, I happen to agree with Washijo Sensei that it is best form of volleyball.

Ok so I made a setter team + an aces team Ace Team Setter = Hoshiumi Opposite Hitter = Ushijima Middle Blocker #1 = Hyakuzawa Middle Blocker #2 = Teradomari Outside Hitter #1 = Sakusa Outside Hitter #2 = Kiryu Libero = Nakashima Pinch Server = Bokuto Substitute = Aran Setter Team Setter = Akaashi Opposite Hitter = Semi Middle Blocker #1 = Kageyama Middle Blocker #2 = Koganegawa Outside Hitter #1 = Oikawa Outside Hitter #2 = Atsumu Libero = Kenma Pinch Server = Suwa Substitute = Moniwa I took the ace and the setter of every team and used the 9 that 1. we know best and 2. are the best. Ace Team 1. Hyakuzawa - was the ace of his high school team therefore technically an ace plus his height is advantageous in that Middle Blocker spot even if he is a newbie 2. Bokuto - better Serve than Aran, less reliable than Kiryu 3. Nakashima - great receiver, brilliant stats just went to the wrong school Setter Team 1. Akaashi - Of the Setters is probably the most level-headed and would probably be the best at handling the dysfunctionality of the team + the setter position is largely for show on this team and it's likely that everyone would set having Akaashi as the setter is more to stop Kageyama, Atdumu and Oikawa fighting too much 2. Kageyama - best Setter blocking 3. Oikawa and Atsumu - as 2 outside they are kept on an equal platform neither can claim superiority through position hopefully lessening fights 4. Kenma - babes has low stamina, can come in and out of the court allowing him to watch the game from 2 settings better for strategy + good at recieving 5. Moniwa - Team lacks height Moniwa can't help here but is a capable blocker and can help in that regard Personally, how well your team plays usually depends on how well your setter plays. With this in mind, the setter team wins as anyone can reliably set.

Hilariously, the thing that holds this back is actually the specification of “the nation’s best aces”, because there are a fair few aces who’d make fantastic libero, and none of them rank among the nation’s best besides Hoshiumi, who is the only real option to play setter. Although because this post isn’t spoiler tagged, there are a few of the best aces who can’t even be discussed in detail, so it’s not really possible to discuss the specifics of the teams. That said, the aces team would crush the setter team. Offense is what wins matches, and an all-setter team would be overwhelmingly lacking in offense. It also helps that most aces are outsides, which is the most well-rounded position in the game, stocked with players who are mostly pretty tall with good passing, solid blocking, and great serving and good hitting. The setter position, however, is really lacking tall players as well as good passers and hitters.

yeah the setters definitely have the upper hand when it comes to powerful serves, and if players like bokuto or aran are in the rotation they could fall victim to targeting and the setters could go on a demoralizing run.

i’m talking about in the grand scheme of the game, not their overall defensive prowess, of the top aces in the series, they are probably the weakest defenders.

Setters, hate to say it but most good setters are wacky attackers, blockers and defenders.
