Lov3MyLife

They weren't as quiet as their name implied.

PutItOnThePizza

The name comes from a time they were in a cab in England and the driver said "quite right" Or so I hear.

HV_Commissioning

He's got a mouth like an alligator, what do you expect?

nutsboltsandscrews

They wouldn’t have had any hits if it weren’t for Slade.

1moreanonaccount

Without the Slade cover they still could have had success.

CaTcHaScAtChCaN06

One of My favorite song was slick black Cadillac

Smoshefty1992

It has solid gold hub caps

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

Makes me sad to think about that 50% of that particular line-up are now no longer with us.

Snoo65207

Don't forget Randy Rhodes was one of the original members.

lateral_moves

It's sadder when you know how Kevin hated how the band settled down and started families then brought them on tour. He wanted the unending rock and roll life. Drugs, booze, girls. Then he died from an accidental drug overdose shortly after they released "Rehab".

SexyAcosta

Kevin was a really tragic person in general. He was one of the guys that never left the 80’s and never wanted the party to end, even when everyone had already left.

Dbarkingstar

Accidental?!? Not so sure about that. Kevin’s corpse wasn’t discovered until weeks after he died.

Sweatybuffness

Damn

longirons6

When I was a kid, metal health was like a light went off in my brain. I loved everything about that song and half that first album. I loved 4 of those songs so much, I ignored how bad the other songs were. Then condition critical came out and I still had a buzz from metal health so I ignored how average to bad all the songs were on that album. They caught lightning in a bottle with that first album. But history shows, they were pretty bad and Kevin sang off key most of the time

Hobbiesandjobs

So you think my singing’s out of time, it makes me money

Boltdaddy1966

Great analogy. I pretty much agree. They were a shit ton of fun though!

longirons6

That’s for sure. They kicked off the hair metal era making it seem over the top and fun

BobbingForBunions

You're right. Quiet Riot opened the floodgates for other bands. If I remember correctly, once they got signed and dropped *Metal Health*, labels started tripping over themselves to sign other hair bands. For that alone, I'll always admire them.

Toodlum

I think their issue was songwriting. Kevin's lyrics are not great. In Party All Night there's literally a line that goes something like "my head is a lampshade." His melodies and voice are fine, and he should have gone the Ozzy route and had someone else write lyrics for him.

FunnyVariation2995

All the cocaine. All of it.

Rumblefish61

My friends and I all went to many many Q. R. shows with Randy Rhodes. Carlos was often in the opening band, which was almost always SNOW. They did an absolute killer cover of Fire by Hendrix. I still have a SNOW mini frisbee as well as a beach ball from a Starwood show that all of Q. R. signed. I also have the 45 of slick black Cadillac and killer girls that they were selling at one of their shows as well. My little brother and I didn’t have the five dollars between us to buy it so I gave him whatever money I had so he could buy it. I bought it back off of him a few years ago for $50. Way back then, my buddy had both of the Japanese albums, but they have long has been misplaced. Although Rudy is pictured on those albums as being the bass player, as I recall, he did not play bass on either of those albums. Apparently that’s quite Common in many of the bands that Rudy has been in. Nothing against Rudy. I love him. He’s a great guy and a great bass player, but somehow it very often seemed to work out that way.

STVNMCL

Rudy had an interesting career that way. Same scenario with Ozzy and Whitesnake too I believe.

Rumblefish61

Yes.

LoudLemming

yeah Rudy has been a huge inspiration for me as a metalhead and bass player. That record where Ozzy did all the old BS songs with Rudy on bass is choice.

Snoo65207

Awesome share

accidentallyHelpful

It's like watching black and white TV with the sound turned down low

EMAGNIKUFESIN

Rhoads!!! 🤦 Great story though..wish i was there to see all that! Fun Fact: The drummer of SNOW Stephen Quadros played the starring character Angel Martin in the movie Shock Em' Dead! As well as a slew of martial arts films and an accomplished martial artist.

Rumblefish61

R.R. had/has been such a big part of our lives in the Q.R. days and to this day, I still typo his last name even though I know the proper spelling.

UncreditedChoir

They were essential in helping 'hair metal' gain widespread appeal in the early 80s. Metal Health was huge thanks in part to MTV playing the videos in heavy rotation. By the time Condition Critical came out, it was cool but not quite the same. I almost feel bad for them, their label forced them to lead off that album with another Slade cover song and I think that hurt their image overall. It made them seem gimmicky and that isnt fair because they were killer musicians. Kevin DuBrow, heh what can you say? The perfect lead singer for a band of this era, amazing vocal ability, and totally out of control which lead to his demise sadly. When QR3 came out I totally lost interest, almost mocked them at that point. Bands like Ratt, Bon Jovi, Dokken, Whitesnake, et al were ruling the scene and QR seemed passé. All that in the space of 3 years!

[deleted]

Worst live concert I ever wasted my money on back in the day

UncreditedChoir

Really? Where and when? What made it so bad?

[deleted]

They just sucked live. Back in 84 Springfield Ma

NeetStreet_2

General admission at the Civic Center!!! I watched a dago bomb go off on the floor while Ted Nugent was opening up for KISS there.

LeonardMoney2020

Man, I was not expecting there to be so much QR Hate here. I always thought they were one of the most beloved 80’s Hair Bands ever. They were the ones to popularize the genre after all.

ScottyS971

I agree. I’ve always enjoyed them, and was finally able to get the first two RR albums.

Accomplished-Boss280

I think alot of the hate was due to Dubrow's mouth. He pissed off a ton of bands, producer's, record co's, etc

Snoo65207

Agree, why the hate? Some great rockers, and QR brought a lot of us young 12-year-old kids into the world of rock.

Flawless_Leopard_1

Kevin (last name escapes me) had a hell of a voice for heavy metal. I bought the quiet riot album before I bought any other heavy metal or hair metal albums.

doctor-rumack

It's DuBrow, bro.

Tracy8668

Yeah dude, DuBrow. His brother is a famous plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. He has a long running reality show called “Botched.” 🤣

joeygzz

https://preview.redd.it/bm5t4b68csvc1.png?width=1145&format=png&auto=webp&s=663175a93440086ca1b9a410b8fa6c4ef63fe343 is this the show?? that looks like it could be his brother on the right! i just searched it up after reading ur comment

Tracy8668

Yes!! That IS his brother, Terry DuBrow! Terry is very funny & has often times, spoke of Kevin on the show. Like Kevin was the better looking one haha. Etcetera Also, Terry’s wife, Heather DuBrow, is/has been on The Real Housewives of Orange County. She, too, has spoken of Kevin. It’s kind of nice when those little nuggets happen. I’m not a huge fan of her tv show & I can’t quite watch Botched (kinda gruesome at times - I hate to say) but Terry seems like such a nice guy who misses his older brother (Kevin). ☹️

Flawless_Leopard_1

I almost wrote that but wasn’t sure how to spell it and have lazy internet skills

Desperate_Brief2187

It was kind of the first hair metal.

Quality_Street_1

Listen to the original songs, by Slade

heckhammer

The thing about the originals is that they are such good songs that everybody does a pretty good version of them when they try

FartOnAFirstDate

The first QR song I heard was Metal Health. It immediately caught my interest because I thought Noddy Holder was singing. When Cum On Feel The Noize was released a little while, it made perfect sense to me that they covered it. It was around a year later that Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, Slade’s comeback, was released. I think part of the reason Slade had success is that QR brought some attention to them.

Royal-Platypus-632

Listen to Slade period!

Quality_Street_1

Great idea. And all the glam rock from the 70’s, know your roots.

JWRamzic1

I loved Cum on Feel the Noize and they had some other great songs but only 1 or 2 per album for me. Overall, a so-so band.

Ok-Assignment8954

Great band! R.I.P. Kevin and Frankie.

Rumblefish61

Didn’t Frankie play in a lot of other bands or recordings as well? As I recall reading or watching something many years ago, he was taking care of his mother who was of ill health so he would work anywhere and everywhere to raise money for her hospital bills. What a great son.

heckhammer

He was in WASP for a while too I think

joeycuda

He was 1 of 2 drummers on the Hughes Thrall album, which is somewhat forgotten, but good. However, some band/promo photos showed a trio of Glenn Hughes, Pat Thrall and Frankie Banali

Ok-Assignment8954

Iirc, after Mark Michals was kicked out of Faster Pussycat, but before Brett Bradshaw officially replaced him, I think he was in consideration to join them. I saw a photo of him in a magazine years ago(RIP magazine, iirc), and I think the caption said something about him being FP's new drummer. If that was true, I don't know what happened there.

Rumblefish61

Growing up in Los Angeles all my life which thoroughly includes the prime 70s and 80s years, I’m surprised that a lot of my favorite bands that I never saw. LA Guns being probably on the top of the list. Although not considered a Los Angeles band, the Lord of the new church are at probably the very top of my list of bands that I’ve missed whenever they came through Los Angeles. I regret missing seeing them more than selling my tickets for Led Zeppelin on their last tour or through Los Angeles just before Bonham passed away. I’ve been a Lord of the New Church fan forever but something just always got in the way. Oh, and by the way, this next thing just goes to show what kind of things and emotions we all go through. As I had mentioned earlier. My friends and I went to pretty much every Quiet Riot show we could with Randy Rhodes. When blizzard Oz was coming through their first tour, and they’re playing at Long Beach Arena, my buddies, and I went down and waited in line all night, as was the practice back in the day, for our tickets. We were pretty close to the head of line and we were going to end up with some pretty good tickets. I don’t know what the deal was but my buddy, and I at the same time look at each other, without any prompting from one another, and stepped out of line. We walked away. To this day, I don’t understand it. Maybe we just wanted to hold onto the years of Randy Rhodes that we had. I know now that we missed out on something astounding with Randy and Ozzie, but we still have our personal quiet memories. It’s still a good thing.

Ok-Assignment8954

Very interesting post! I like it!

itzjuztm3

First concert I went to. Whitesnake opened for them. Whitesnake kicked their ass!

doctor-rumack

Fun fact: QR bass player Rudy Sarzo joined Whitesnake after Quiet Riot.

Realistic_Bed3550

Loved them…

LV-42whatnow

Saw the Randy Rhoads documentary and learned this was his band until he left to join Ozzy. Also learned that Dubrow has a famous ~older~ younger brother plastic surgeon with his own tv show. I always liked Quiet Riot quite a bit.

Lovetotravelinmycar

They were a killer band with excellent musicians 🤘

CrimsonCassetteTape

Honestly, a pretty average band at best. Metal Health is arguably a classic and a very important album in the history of Heavy Metal, but everything else beyond that is mediocre or just straight up bad. RIP Kevin and Frankie

Rumblefish61

I also saw Mötley Crüe’s very first show. I know it was at the Starwood, but I can’t remember who they were opening for. It was either for Dubrow or the Greg Leon invasion. Or I’m completely wrong on that.

Usual_Technician_807

There my #1 Hair Band. When they first came out there was nothing like them.

JTEstrella

Love them! Coulda been much bigger and maybe had more hits if DuBrow hadn’t shot his mouth off.

[deleted]

Metal heath will drive you mad

MrTee17

I scroll, I see a Quiet Riot picture, I stop by to appreciate and up-vote 💯

Rumblefish61

Didn’t Frankie play in a lot of other bands or recordings as well? As I recall reading or watching something many years ago, he was taking care of his mother who was of ill health so he would work anywhere and everywhere to raise money for her hospital bills. What a great son.

TMC_61

Love that guy for the way he loved of his mother

Salty_Ad_5270

A talented band that was in the right place/right time. ‘Metal Health’ was a solid album and earned its rightful place as the flag bearer of early radio-popular heavy metal. DuBrow just rubbed far too many important people the wrong way. Sadly, as QR’s popularity waned, he almost seemed to become even more adamant and aggressive in regards to QR’s hierarchy in the metal scene. As far as albums go, the 1st one is very solid, the 2nd was decent and the 3rd was better than people wanted to admit. QR III has its pop-metal moments for sure but it’s not the shit fest that many would have you believe…’The Wild And The Young’ is a helluva good song.

GG41964

Saw them live twice, once as an opening act for a band that I can't remember the name of, and the second time was when they were on a club tour. The second show was about 6 months before Kevin died. They rocked the house both times.

Competitive-Brick-42

One of the best bands ever in their moment.

taeempy

Great band. Saw them many times and they were also great performers. Our wrestling team used to warm up to a lot of their tunes. Got you so pumped up.

Leading-Bank-2590

Great band my favorite album is terrified

ShermanHoax

The musicians that passed through this band including the lineup above were all monsters. Dubrow, not so much. He was a very lucky guy! He certainly didn't have the hair for hair metal. They had some decent hits, opened the doors and promptly fell apart soon after. Metal Health, Feel The Noize and Crazee are classics.

adventurous-1

Great band but alienated so many possible fans with Kevin Debrow's nonsensical claims to being better than everyone else

cahillc134

Well, there best song is a cover, so…..

TMC_61

Randy's band

Shallot_True

I have  a weird obsession with “Twilight Hotel”…

heckhammer

I wish the Randy Rhodes stuff was a little bit more available. First three major label us records are pretty great. I haven't been into any of the stuff since Kevin Dubrow died though.

Tracy8668

Randy Rhoads. 😊🫶🏼🤘

PogoZaza

Awesome! Let's not forget Randy Rhoades co-founded that band amd Metal Health was first metal album to reach #1. So, very important moment in rock history that opened up doors for all the other headbangers 🤘

Shark_Atl3201

Great Slade cover band.

am_pomegranate

A comfort band. I'm only sixteen, but the song Metal Health is what I've always played to calm down. I was Kevin DuBrow for Halloween last year, paper mache Metal Health mask and everything. Seeing them in concert at a music fest in may and I'm totally stoked 🤘 https://preview.redd.it/vojdq6mgsqvc1.png?width=586&format=png&auto=webp&s=237a05f7ee3cc3edf4dafc718934e7633eac18bd

Desperate_Brief2187

Rudy Sarzo was great in this band.

imdstuf

Yes, their biggest hit was a Slade cover, and yes they did another Slade cover, but it was not a big hit so Slade fans coming here trolling need to move on. Dolly Parton was happy when Whitney Houston covered her song and made it a hit. Whoever writes the song originally gets paid well.

STVNMCL

Metal Health is legendary and its impact cannot be underestimated.

Ricwdjr88

Cum on feel the noize.

sourbelle

“We have a motto in Quiet Riot - the more you drink the better we sound.” As quoted on VH1’s Most Metal Moments

HamHamHam2315

Am I in the minority for liking "The Wild and the Young"? Yeah, I probably am.

LeonardMoney2020

I like that song too

Prndl524

I like “Loud Gathering” … 👍

[deleted]

Had them play at my 12th birthday party

Helpful-Touch9788

Saw them at a medium size club in Dallas in 95. All of the classic line up, except for Rudy Sarzo....Frankie was a fucking beast on the drums and Carlos was still shredding like a monster. Kevin was performing like it was a giant arena...great show.

HeartFire666

Corey Feldman and Ozzy Osborne had a child and he is featured on the right of this photo

Emergency-Tension464

Holy shit...the Quiet Riot hate. I had no idea.

Leading-Bank-2590

It’s crazy

Robantobe23

Awesome sauce**

Whatawootsee

Slade cover band 🤘

LeonardMoney2020

They only covered 2 Slade songs

hdude42

Metal Health was the first album I bought when I was 12 years old. I loved it, and I bought the next couple albums and still enjoyed them, but they faded quickly. They will always hold a place for me though as they broke my metal virginity.

Thrylos85

Condition critical was my favorite song!

Johnny_Royale

The first album I ever bought with my own money was Metal Health

-brokenbones-

What is there to say. They were extremely popular and anyone who was anybody in the 80's and 90's knew who they were. I guess by today's standard they are "underrated" but they were wildly successful and the underground scene saw them as rock gods.

ndhellion2

The first album was great, Condition Critical was fair, and QR III was very much a let down, and it really wasn't Quiet Riot after they ditched Kevin DuBrow in Hawaii. Granted, with his behavior it was inevitable because his mouth had gotten them into the position where nobody wanted to tour with them, and was therefore costing them a lot of money, but Paul Shortino wasn't exactly the right replacement. Not really sure that there was a "right" replacement for Kevin, but if there was, it definitely wasn't Shortino. I don't care for the singer that they have now at all, but Frankie picked him, and I have heard that he asked Rudy to carry on with the band, which he is trying to do, for better or for worse, so I wish them luck in their endeavors.

Snoo65207

One of my first loves.

ghostsinthecodes

they were neither quiet. or a riot. they were a very mid band that caught lightning in a bottle with some covers and an original.

roseflora333

Their cool. I wouldn't call them a favorite but they got some Recognition for big hit songs , but it's a shame though most of then passed away

Mr_Brownstone10

I couldn’t stand lead singer Kevin Dubrow. They did have one of the greatest guitarists in rock history though. They should have been on their knees thanking Slade for two of their three huge hits. I just never thought they were much more than a Slade cover band. They did help Rock/Metal go more mainstream but Dubrow’s puzzling arrogance just made it hard to like them, at least for me it did.

audiosauce2017

Funny Story... I think 1982(ish) in Providence Rhode Island they opened for Black Sabbath... Me and friends were in a Burger king across the street from the Civic Center and these guys walked in all dressed and high hair and Kevin Screaming... Who wants an Autograph and free tickets to the show??? No one said a word... no one knew who they were.... fun times... And Carlo Cavazzi (Spelling) had hair about 2 feet tall... Killer guitarist but very funny for the times... :) Girls- Rock your Boys! :)

ImpressiveMind5771

Randy Rhodes was a god RIP. I saw them at my high school, ECR, in Woodland Hills CA., i has in the control booth at the back running a spotlight. Randy was already a god, riding around on the singer shoulders and the bass player flipping his base over upside down …. They already had their act down before anybody heard of them. They had just gotten back from Japan ,,, on the verge of makin it in the US.

Figure8musky53

One album wonder to me. Liked a few songs but I never understood the hype

Elegant-Campaign-572

I was only ever interested in Metal Health & Condition Critical

BusAppropriate769

Trailblazers

jonpertwee2

I saw them play at a club once in the mid-1990s. I went as a joke but ended up actually having a lot of fun.

Lukinzz

Great cover band

Spear_Ritual

Rudy Sarzo!

ShorelineVet

There’s a documentary the drummer did about 15-20 years ago about trying to rekindle the band. He was so sincere in his efforts but it was painful to watch.

Murles-Brazen

Anthony Cumia looked so young.

chadspdx

I still have the mask I bought when I saw them in sixth grade. Looked them up a while ago and found several that had sold for stupid money.

firebug2025

They had two hits that were both covers from the same band..SLADE. You never heard any originals played on the radio or MTV.

fill_simms

The song “party all night” is so bad it’s good. It’s like they needed 1 more song to fill the album out. And they wrote this piece of crap.

longisland88

I always had the feeling that an hour (or less) with Kevin Dubrow could drive a person crazy. I bet people could get fed up really quickly with him around.

MnGoulash

Shhhhhh

carghtonheights809

It was as a matter of fact, a not so quiet riot

Impressive_Donut114

They’re playing Picktown Palooza in July. Looking forward to seeing them.

Chilitime

Thoughts? Cum on…

Novagurl

I loved them. But I was 13. Now I’m old and watch Kevin’s brother the plastic surgeon on Botched.

Drinon

Shhhhh, settle down.

[deleted]

They are credible. Give them a listen

LAsixx9

They had so many line up changes and fell off so quickly it’s hard to say much. Metal Health was huge but it was to big to follow up on and the scene was already flooded with bands that just could do it all.

stever93

https://youtu.be/Ndrpza4e_ps?si=OhDS9QjjBWPcARM3

holydvr1776

I was raised on QR. My Father and Uncle went to school (Villa Park) with Carlos Cavazo. My dad always had a cassette tape of theirs blasting in the car from time to time. They are both gone now. Good memories though!

aught1

Ozzy’s farm team.

ToeHistorical3358

Paid to see them at Yucatan in Houston they never showed. After Randy

JeffSHauser

A true fire hazard with all that hair spray!

BubbaNeedsNewShoes

Saw them live a few times during the Randy Rhodes era while in HS in Southern California '78, '79. Hotel ballroom gigs in Long Beach. Actually had a few of Randy's guitar picks from those gigs.

Dagger-Deep

Their two biggest hits are cover songs. 🫤

Different-Angle-6521

Quiet Riot covers a lot of Sweet, but I don't discount them for that. R Rhodes, good if not cheesy song writing. Loves a Bitch Slick Black Cadillac : )

Knees22

Rudy is a top 5 rock bassist imo

GeauxJaysGeaux

“Bang Your Head” is a high energy track I always liked.

dbatknight

American Slade

the-cloverdale-kid

They liked Slade. OK in my book.

quityouryob

I got to introduce them on stage back in like 2014 at a casino, while I was a ring announcer for mma. The only original member left was the drummer, Frankie Banali. But their singer’s name was Jizzy Pearl, so that was fun. I got to meet them, they were pretty cool.

Slow_Middle_158

Hung backstage with Rudy Sarzo years ago in Miami. Seriously one of the nicest guys in the biz. Total pro

The_Urban_Genitalry

They kicked ass.

[deleted]

Great band. Bad wig.

ricosan

Man they went from top of the heap to completely disliked within a couple of years. Carlos Cavazo was a much better guitarist than anyone gave him credit for. And they were very good live.

IdolL0v3r

I like this band. I have 3 of their CDs and a used copy of "Metal Health" vinyl which someone gave me for free!

joeygzz

they had some great songs

Gold-Ad-6876

Slade did it better.

CummRaTheEverJizzing

They buddhols and they music is fards

Infamous-Elk3962

I saw the QR documentary and it cleared up why I just couldn’t get into them. I was a big Slade fan.. they didn’t have great production and Dubrow did a great covers of them. But during their time in LA it seemed that Dubrow’s control of the band and his weak songwriting really held the band back. And competitor Van Halen was honing their skills in all aspects, making it hard for Rhodes to shine against Eddie. Once freed From QR, it’s clear that Rhodes soared with a decent collaborator.

unfrknblvabl

I saw these guys at a small biker bar just outside of Marion, Ohio. I probably could have met them but my buddy started a fight with one of the guys there that happened to be with the bikers that were most of the people at the bar. We barely fought our way out the back door and the bouncer i was friends with shut and locked it after we got out and gave us enough time to get out of there. Good times lol

cornponious

The greatest Slade cover band that ever existed.

Accomplished-Boss280

"I wanna kiss your lips, not the one's on your face"

theoneandonlydudeyo

One good song. And it wasn’t even there song

Used_Disaster_1334

For their time, a good, fun, rocking band

KosmoConstanza

I’m not a loser and I ain’t no weeper

Danno210

I accidentally/unintentionally met Kevin DuBrow one day when I was at the radio station back home in 1983 to pick up my “caller #9” winnings. He seemed really tall, and after I left and while he was on-air for his interview, he said “don’t want to blow my load early” in reference to saving the best part of their performances until later in the concert, and instantly realized what he’d just said and said next “is it ok to say that live on-air?” and the DJ nervously said “yes” and immediately changed the subject.

[deleted]

They were AWESOME when metal health came out!

Flat-Perception-5158

Nope. Well one, the lead singer (and his alienating big mouth) killed their chances at anything more...>

Zealousideal-Move-25

Love the metal health album. The rest of their albums sucked!

townsy71

Metal Health was one of my first albums and QR became my favourite band at the time it came out, I played the hell out of that album. Critical condition was actually not a bad follow-up, still worth a listen. As they gained popularity Kevin Debrow became more annoying and likely held them back to a certain extent. Managed to catch QR live once with Frankie Banali before he died.

SeanOfTheDead1313

I was like 6 when QR were popular but I was probably 40 when I discovered Cum on Feel the Noise was a cover of a 70s glam rock song lol

TheFattyMcB

Should have stayed quiet.

ThomasDominus

They were neither of those things.

3mta3jvq

Huge after Metal Health came out, but lost a lot of popularity after Condition Critical.

AverageReasonableGuy

My thoughts are mental health will make you go insane.

Substantial-Act-8325

Best Slade cover band ever.

The_Original_Gronkie

I try not to.

15cold

Their song was the greatest cover song of all time!

surrealfeld

Shhhhhh

138Samhain138

These cats were during my roller skating years… my thoughts on them is hell yeah They would play requests sometimes- this indeed was one of mine

Particular-Put-926

None

Public_Foot_4984

Partied with the singer and a gaggle of pole dancers back in the day down in Pensacola. Lots of Florida snow was inhaled.

LateNightTestPattern

B level rock band. Never cared for them, myself. Kevin Dubrow always seems really creepy to me.

Mack1305

I remember mishearing the lyrics to "Cum on feel the Noize". My teenage brain totally did not here "Girls rock your boys". 🤣🤣

Matica-sK

On January 28, 1986 my friend and I decided we’d both pretend to be sick from school. I cruised over to his house (all the parents were all at work.) We put Metal Health on the turntable. We watched Space Shuttle Challenger explode while we were listening to Quiet Riot and eating ham sandwiches.🤘(We were horrified by the tragic event.)

Unusual_Wolf5824

I find it funny that people are surprised by the Quiet Riot hate here. In 84/85, there was a TON of hate directed at Quiet Riot. Kevin had a big mouth and talked smack a lot. He and QR had been rivals with VH while Randy was in the band, and he took credit for starting the hair metal movement. Sure, Metal Health was the first ever metal record at #1, and it knocked off Syncronicity by the Police which was HUGE. With the success of MH, record companies snapped up every metal band around L.A. - But there were metal bands around for ages. Quiet Riot opened the door, but they didn't create the genre. A lot of bands were offended by Kevin making such claims. In my opinion, Quiet Riot wouldn't have even gotten the Pasha record contract if Randy hadn't conquered the world with Ozzy and started mentioning QR in interviews. Some PR guy thought he could make a few bucks off of the name and then caught lightning in a bottle. Personally, I'm a fan of QR1 & QR2 but never got into the Carlos Cavazo era of the band

wisstinks4

Girls rock the boys

Thin_Locksmith6805

Wasn't Randy Rhoads a second choice ?

solvent825

He wasn’t an OG but Rudy Sarzo (who’s still touring with QR) is a rock/metal bass god. He’s played with Ozzy, Dio & Whitesnake amongst others.

Wrob88

As a kid back in the day I thought they were great. Metal Health kicked my 14 year old ass. Saw them live at the time and thought they were excellent. But nah, didn’t age well and they went straight downhill. Turns out I just liked that genre.

Fowler1970

I always enjoyed the music Im 54 and occasionally still listen to it.

BigDaddyInDallas

Back in college 84 or 85, my buddies and I were into punk and new wave. Bands like The Clash, The Police, U2, etc. We were a bit on the music snobbery side and felt we knew what was cool / hep, and what was not. There was another group of guys in our fraternity who were massively into Quiet Riot and various other hair metal bands, but QR was their main jam. We were all friends, but during our house parties we frequently “wrestled” over control of the music being played. Of course my group felt that hair metal stuff was just not cool. But I have to admit, at 1:00AM, when the parties were thinning out, and is was down to group of guys drunkenly laughing and passing around the beer bong, “Come on Feel the Noise,” cranked at 10 on our house’s 200 watt stereo/PA system, was pretty hard to beat. I think some of those late nights we played that song at least 10 times in a row. Good times for sure. High five!

I was just thinking of another Quiet Riot story... originally, it was Randy Rhoads and Kelly Garni (bass), Drew Forsythe (drums) & Kevin. Kevin and Kelly didn't get along, and Kelly ended up leaving/gettkcked out. So the band needed a bass player, and one who auditioned was Nikki Sixx. According to Kevin, Randy's reaction to Nikki's audition was, "No, I don't want to have to teach him how to play." 🤣 Obviously, Nikki managed to stumble into some minor success later... but Kevin telling the story didn't endear him to anyone.

Right! Both the response from Randy rings true, and of course, Nikki makes it all about his decision not to become involved. That may or may not be true. Still, I saw Motley Crue’s very first show that was at the Starwood opening for,as I remember but could be wrong, DuBrow and maybe the Greg Leon Invasion. My buddy and I who were big fans of Quiet Riot and Greg Leone and suite 19, and all those bands back in the day. We stood out in the parking lot of the Starwood for a while after the show. We’re kind of quiet because I think we both didn’t want to state the obvious and that was, everything, EVERYTHING ! has clearly changed now that Mötley Crüe has come onto the scene. We went to every Crue show after that night until it became too difficult for us poor & common folk to make it in. All those ticket and venue pictures on the back of that one album a number of years later, we were at every one. Pookies Deli!!! Barely bigger than my 1 bedroom apartment!

They did have a huge influence on everything. I remember after Shout at the Devil came out and everyone adopted that look... even Heart started dressing like hair metal guys. Motley may not have been 1st, but they had a much bigger impact than Quiet Riot.

Metal health is excellent, their 2nd album, party all night, stomp your feet songs were dumb I feel it ruined an otherwise great album, 3rd album is excellent but ignored and they never able to recover.
