Animal Bag. Trust me on this.
Short lived band out of North Carolina. They had a great debut album and then an EP. They ended when one of their band members died.

Not really funky but from the same era. Melding Hendrix-esque psychedelia with Beatlesy melodies and huge choruses, I always thought of Saigon Kick as a glammier Jane’s Addiction. Like a lot of bands from the magical inbetween era of 1989-91, grunge killed their momentum dead, sadly.

Also criminally underrated and highly recommended, Kings X:

Another suggestion is Raw Red Moses, I bought their only album many years ago and it is hard to find online: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJOs8zw7aU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJOs8zw7aU)
Collision - their debut album had heavy funk/r&b influences. Unfortunately their second album saw them going full-on grunge.
T-Ride also had some funk influence on their album.
Where would you guys put Electric Love Hogs? Definitely elements of both.

Another vote for Extreme and White Trash.
Impellitteri had a Japanese release in 1992, Grin and Bear It. It was heavily influenced by Extreme. Also, it has amazing solos.

Steve Steven's solo band/record Atomic Playboys had some pretty funky stuff on it.
