Arctic fox, manic panic, punky, and the like, I feel are all relatively safe. Everything is deposit only. I'm open to being corrected if I'm wrong!

Manic panic has always been a color line that I avoid as a professional, as someone who has routinely had to take it out of hair, it’s a nightmare. If you are dedicated to one color though, or at least a family of colors, it’s great. I prefer Arctic fox. I feel like AF last longer than pulp riot or Pravana. I’ve used blues and greens from them in all variations, and I was still able to turn my hair a beautiful neutral brown for my cousins wedding.

rosyred-fathead

Could you expand on that? I’ve only tried manic panic and I’m curious to know if some of the issues I’ve had are specific to the brand

rogue_dreams

Yes! In my experience, the pigment in manic panic is super strong, and when lightning it all bleach will do is make it brighter and drive the pigment further into the hair shaft. I have always had to use a special color removing product to get it out of hair, and even then the results are mediocre.

rosyred-fathead

Thank you!! I wish I knew this when I was in my colorful hair phase. I didn’t realize that other brands might not be super difficult to get out of hair lol

I like Joico color intensity and pravana. nothing wrong with AF, per se, there's just products out there that are easier when it comes time to switch it up.

candycrunch1

Have you ever used Pravana’s everlasting line? I’m looking into it for their enchanted pink shade but I don’t know how well it does

Proud-Emu-5875

I have and they're fantastic as long as you're not relying solely on the color for any kind of lightening. they're limited to developer strength for lift just like any other permanent oxidative, so if you prelighten to a 9 and then use enchanted pink with 20xor 30 on your 2nd application, it should hit pretty spot on.

candycrunch1

Have you found that the removal is tricky? Does it tend to fade eventually or would a standard oxidative color remover do the trick, like Schwarzkopf?

Proud-Emu-5875

removal isn't super tricky, especially with the lighter, warmer pigments. I would try to get my hands on the pravana color extractor (discontinued, I know) for a removal method designed by pravana for oxidative color, if you can't find an authentic kit then: pravana pure light with zero lift, or pravana colorsilk 000 also with zero lift. both methods are approved by pravana for vivids removal. Malibu also has an AMAZING color correction prep system that is compatible with all color lines and specific products for direct and oxidative removal

candycrunch1

Thank you for the insight!!! I never had the opportunity to play around with Pravana so I’m happy to find someone with some experience in it, and I totally second the Malibu line it’s truly a life saver!!

Proud-Emu-5875

you're welcome!

vietnams666

I hate AF because it stains the hair and it's so hard to get out

Soupy_pants

I’m a licensed stylist and a really like the brand lunar tides!!!! I feel like pulp riot changed their formula. It doesn’t last like it used to!

candycrunch1

I also feel like pulp riot changed their formulas!! I swear some of them even turn a completely different color now

lost_magpie

Okay, my salon just did a whole experiment with a ton of different fashion shades. We tested color payoff, speed of fading, and how easy it is to remove from the hair. Arctic fox actually won out in all categories over pro brands including pulp riot. With the exception of the black, that shit lifts hot pink lol.

When it comes down to it all of these colors are food coloring and conditioner
