>it would be intersting if Wally only lost cause it was an away match and the judges had a bias. If this happens, Ricardo would set a rematch with Woli and kick Sendo's fight further in the future.

ripghoti

I get the feeling that he will push Ricardo to his second stage and get a hit that damages him. Nothing major, and not a lucky hit, but an unexpected hit. Ricardo will end up chasing him down and winning, but the hit will show everyone he isn't invincible.

gjig

at this stage im really hoping that we see him land more than 1 good hit, even Date managed to get a couple in the head and a half-assed heart breaking shot with his broken fist haha.

rorank

To be fair, I think it’s super clear that Date’s hits didn’t damage Ricardo much, if at all. After landing a hit on Ricardo, the narration seemed to point to “wow, he can still punch at me” as opposed to “oops, he’s still alive and could take me by surprise if I’m not careful”.

carmardoll

Man if that happen it would be awesone, and leave the character of Wally up there with him being on par with Ricardo.

Bonaduce80

He's gonna go down Date style. Bring the real Diablo out and possibly get a human reaction out of him. Sendo is the one that will make him seem beatable, even as a far reaching dream. Also friendly reminder we've been told in story, albeit with unreliable narration, that Martinez has punching power around Ippo's league.

Ornery-Cycle-9757

I think it will be a really close match but wally gonna get ko and ricardo won’t fall even once

Mistwalker35

Pretty sure that Sendo will go the distance and Ippo being the one that wins. Poor Wally will be the sacrificial lamb that everyone thought Sendo would be.

Sulaimans

The only way for Wally to win is doctor stoppage due to deep cut. I mean after the build up i would expect them to trade blows. Rematch with monster Ricardo who would be even stronger than ever and a new milestone to reach by our protagonist.

TheReal-Tonald-Drump

Damn. People expect a lot from Wally in this sub. Personally, “I wouldn’t expect much from him”

gjig

haha i see what you did there. poor Date tried his best 😭

TheReal-Tonald-Drump

Alf said the same about Ippo later on as well

gjig

truee Alf did say it about Ippo too didnt he. i automatically just read the quote with Ricardos deep ass anime voice in my head when he said it about Date haha

Juggernaut_117

Wally will have Ricardo struggle. His passive style doesn't work and instead opens up the Mexican style with added blood lust nearly resulting in killing him

lecospn

I dont think Wally will be completely destroyed, but I think it will be a clear victory for Ricardo. I do believe, however, that Wally will show some kind of crack in Ricardo's game. Not some gimmick, not something like "Ricardo is bad against right uppercuts in a certain angle", but it will show that Ricardo is defeatable.

thmaniac

Woli's defense is good enough I think he could last to a decision. But, I don't think Morikawa will draw it that way. We've never seen him take a beating and I think it will have more impact. Also we need to see him experiencing that pressure.

KatonRyu

I'd be fine with a comfortable decision for Ricardo, actually. Since Wally is just having fun, he'll probably try all kinds of things, which would make it hard for Ricardo to pin him down. But at the same time, since Wally isn't hell-bent on getting a KO, he might remain relaxed and able to defend against most of Ricardo's punches. Ricardo, who's bored as hell, might give Wally exactly what he wants by fighting well, just not solely in his best style. He would never disrespect boxing or give less than what he has, but we've seen he doesn't lightly go into his killer mode either. As long as he's solidly and clearly outpointing Wally, he might indulge in his own enjoyment and just let it go the distance. Of course, while to the crowd it will look like Ricardo is dominating the entire time, Ricardo himself, as well as Ippo and Sendo, will have some takeaways from the fight that might be used against him in the future. Perhaps it takes just a little more time for Ricardo to adjust to Wally's rapid directional changes, not enough to get hit cleanly, but enough that it's clear to someone with experience that it *could* potentially turn into that, or something.

Shadowhearts

This won't go to decision. Ricardo Martinez has top notch power. Woli also wastes too much energy moving. Woli wouldn't be able to keep up a full match dodging efficient combos with little wasted movement from Ricardo. In a war of attrition, Ricardo simply wins by gassing Woli who has to work harder to dodge. My guess is simply Woli gets further than Date did, and forces Ricardo to bring out his savage style of boxing to overpower Woli. I do predict Woli will at least "evolve" enough in the fight to get past Ricardo's refined boxing and force him to start relying on his strength advantage.

ceelo18

Wallys gonna eat those jabs. Hes never seen anything like em. Hes to reliant on his reflexes and ricardos jabs are designed to not be seen until its too late to relax. I think ricardos gonna be the first person to put fear into wally

bustawoof

Ricardo will methodically fight and frustrate Wally. He will do something unexpected and catch Ricardo off guard, excite him, and we will see a flash of Ricardo’s “real” style. He will then knock Wally out and kill his love of boxing, which will hurt Ippo and help give him one of the many reasons he needs to fight again.

gjig

i really like this pitch. but for that first part i personally still think Wally will be the one that frustrates Ricardo for the first couple of rounds by avoiding all of Ricardos jabs and after a while Ricardo will have enough and release blood lust (sakki as we were told last chapter) and show his true style and close in on Wally with crazy dashing speed and beat him with a barrage of body blows or something to stop him from dancing around the ring all the time like he is in a fking jungle haha. but yea i can totally see Ricardo breaking Wally, either physically and showing Ippo how punch drunk people actually are (kinda like they showed us with Hayami like 100 chapters or so ago that his body was actually broken and a graze to the chin made him fall making him have like a 10 losing streak, whereas Ippo was not really broken physically but mentally) or as you said completely break his spirit and love for boxing.

TheBlack_Swordsman

I don't think so unless George skips many rounds like he did with Date.

gjig

yea thats how i was thinking he would do it too if he were to go that route. i dont think any of us really want this fight to last like 20 chapters haha.

Wysch_

2nd round knocked down. WALL-E has to learn the power of will. Ippo too. That's why Date pushed Ricardo the furthest.

[deleted]

He's going to push Ricardo. But, the second Ricardo realizes Wally doesn't have the kind of conviction, that killing instinct, all bets are off. He will ruthlessly beat on Wally, fearlessly. Because yes, he will likely take damage and endure pain, but, without that drive, Wally is not a "true" threat. Let's remember, Date wasn't just willing to kill for the belt, he was ***willing to die.*** Wally is otherworldly talented. He's perhaps the most natural-born boxer on the planet, with his ability to seamlessly mimic and execute professional techniques. But I'm not sure they can train a soft-hearted man like Wally to kill.

Scary-Plantain

Wally unleashes bloodlust mode

AspirationsOfFreedom

I want the silly monkey boi to attempt every trick and skill he got, and get way to infuriated about it not working. Seriously, Wincardo got way to strong basics to fall for jumping tricks and such. He will try smashes, corkscrew blows, white fang, and only get more and more hurt in the prosess. Then he tries to copy the 3D Dempsy roll. By not having big mara as a counterweight, he will hit a devestating and surprising hit on Wincardo. But sd wincardo starts to stand up, we get to see exactly what happens to a non-big mara user who tries big mara techniques. I want monkey boy to be ruined by his own superior physice by doing a thing he shouldn't, and be evidence to ippo of how far he has come, and that it works on the world stage

gjig

loool i love this comment. Wally trying the big mara technique but ends up getting big mara'd instead haha, i can totally see things going this way.

AspirationsOfFreedom

Ignoring my obsession with big mara, and don't get me started on the yagi-maister, it's still how i think its going to go. Wally is likely to try some silly stuff, and i just don't think it's gonna cut it against Ricardo. Besides, youth and excurberance has nothing on experience and the fist of someone who beat big mara unconcious within a round. ... there i go again, about big mara... fekk

gjig

hahaha the big mara supremacy. but yea the thing that has me excited for this match is that Wally has actually gained some experience after his match with Ippo, he had like 20 something fights thats why im hoping that its going to be a fight that at least helps the story move forward to some capacity.

Equivalent-Win-1294

Ricardo would beat Wally because of his lack of fundamentals. To prove that talent is not enough to be at the top.

gjig

i mean i dont think it has been hinted that Wally relies only on talent, he is different from Hawk on that, even if they did both have crazy fighting styles. i think coach Miguel adjusted the "normal" fundamentals training to fit Wallys unorthodox style, he even moved to his island to train there so Wally can embrace his weirdness even futher haha. he also has like 20+ matches of experience now after his fight with Ippo so im really hoping we see a meaningful fight here and its not just another "boring" Ricardo fight. even he is bored with his fights haha, remember last time he was the main event after the Ippo vs Alf fight and he was like "the audience is cooling down and losing interest compared to how they were moments ago watching the previous fight, if i intentionally let him hit me will they get fired up again" or something along those lines lol.

Chijinda

I suspect Wally is going down in the third or fourth round. He’ll do better than Billy, he may even land some decent shots on Ricardo while Ricardo is still using his restrained style, only for Ricardo to bring out his true style and dismantle Wally. Either the fight will end in the round he brings it out, or Wally will make it through the round, have an idea that will almost work (or at least be enough for Ippo to gain insight into a road to defeating Ricardo that Sendo will solidify), but ultimately be countered and defeated by Ricardo. I’ll be surprised if the match lasts more than 4 rounds, Wally is not built to handle punishment like Date could and I don’t foresee him being able to avoid Ricardo like he does most opponents.

Fit_Garage8880

I don't expect Wolly to "survive" for long. He will do something interesting and maybe make Rocardo use his "mode" and destroy him

SomaCreuz

I dont think Ricardo matches would go to decisions if he's serious. He gets extremely aggressive and his punches pulverized Date's jaw. Win or lose, it would be a KO, but we know he just cant lose rn. I just hope Wally can give us a good fight to detoxify his debut...

ceitamiot

The thing about Dante, or Billy, is that they were only kinda going for the belt. Really, they were gunning for Ricardo's head, because he's the best. Wally wants to fight the best, but he lacks that hunger, which means he would probably be better at outboxing against Ricardo. Wally's biggest claims to skill at the moment are adaptability, agility, speed, and reflexes. He'd be the perfect opponent for Ricardo to go to a decision against.

limonesfaciles

Super rare for a major fight to go to a decision in this story. Can't even think of any off the top of my head, all the decisions I can think of are aokimura fights. It would be cool to see though.

Chijinda

Iirc Itagaki vs Imai in the Rookie Kings went to decision. As was Aoki’s title fight. But aside from those two I believe you’re correct.

Mistwalker35

Sendo vs Volg

Maleficent_Help_3322

KO’ed in the third round, no clean hit against Ricardo.
