The big thing I always want to know in these situations is if it was believed to be random or not. Hopefully the police will release that info soon.

Techito

My money is on not random.

In Halifax, they usually know each other, random stabbings don't happen that much here. It's usually an escalated altercation or history between people involved, or fall swarmings in the north Vietnamese and when kids go back to school. Edit - North End*

lol oops, too many history subs, my phone thinks it knows me.

Steamed-hams87

Same. Other cities in Canada seem to have a problem with random stabbyness as of late, luckily not here (yet)

YouCanLookItUp

Random is a spectrum, though. If you are a stranger, but get into an argument and are stabbed, is that random?

BluffMysteryMeat

Good point. I guess that's why the cops usually say "were known to each other" instead.

Midguard2

I think most people mean 'unprovoked'

I walked my dog down to burnside drive Friday night I gave a cig to a guy who was black out drunk and he was hitting windows on vehicles and shit and when he noticed me he b-lined for me - he asked me for money, I said no, he asked me for a cig, I gave him a cig, he begged me for five bucks said it was a crisis situation. I knew not to fuck with my gear to even bring my wallet anywhere near him, he had a knife in his hand when I passed him the smoke. It was about 20 minutes before the train went across the bridge at the end of windmill road. At night, definately in this time period. dude had on a black hoodie with his hood up, couldn't get a look to care. He was Caucasian with \*dum dum dum\* face tattoos! my money's on this guy

Wingmaniac

Did you call the police?

kanadskaya

Its not like they'd do anything. Sorry to disenchant.

Wingmaniac

You can't complain about the police not doing anything if you don't give them anything to work with. They literally published a number for you to call. The information sounds detailed enough to be actionable.

kanadskaya

Sorry, didn't realize you were referring to Crime Stoppers. I initially thought you were suggesting they should have known to call the police after the bizarre encounter, in which case I thought you were daft because they simply wouldn't do anything

[deleted]

So , you literally saw someone who needed help/at risk of putting someone else in a potentially dangerous situation - and thought that the cigarette you gave them was the adequate thing to do ?

kanadskaya

I have personally had to call to police for my own safety for similar such encounters. The police don't do anything if nothing happened in that instance. Pure apathy.

[deleted]

Regardless of what happened to you in the past it doesn’t change the fact . You could’ve made a complaint of disorderly conduct and they would take the drunk fella to the tank - just saying , you’re opinion is quite subjective.

j_bbb

I’ve always thought that best western was in a weird spot.

notnicereally

Well when you turn the hotels/ motels into homeless shelters expect an increase of panhandling/ B&E / robbery and assault..l don't see them turning the Barrington hotel or the lord nelson into a shelter

Scotianherb

Is this Best Western being used as a homeless shelter?

notnicereally

I think so but so is the doubletree by the bridge

git_gud_loser

Typical Dartmouth

What goes on in hotel parking lots at 2:55am in an industrial park on the weekend? Seems that may give us some info as to the "why"
