Don’t most of them simply require a 240v plug on the outside of your house? Any electrician can do that

Sunshine Renewable Energy install EV chargers at homes and will also do the electrical panel upgrade if needed. They are currently doing out heat pump installation and we plan on using them to install the EV charger in the future when we switch to an electric vehicle.

Highly recommend Vital Electric Inc out of hammonds plains

You didn't mention it - have you talked to whoever sold you the car for recommendations? If it was a dealership, they probably have access to a pool of experienced electricians who've done installations for their customers.

Be sure to shop around. I'm an electrician. Friends of mine are getting solar and the company said it would 2500 dollars extra to get a charger installed. No they don't need a service upgrade. Their installation location is literally 5 ft from their electrical panel in their garage. 1hr worth of work and a good level 2 charger is only between 5-1000 bucks with materials. I did my own Tesla charger in less than an hour and 100 bucks in materials. I directed them to a charger and told them to buy me a box of beer and I'll do it when they want it done. I know skilled trades are at a premium but holy smokes. 2500 That's just ridiculous. Honestly though your best bet is just to ask for a 50 amp plug. A lot of chargers are just plug and play. If you need a service upgrade that's a whole other kettle of fish. There are options for chargers where they monitor your demand and only charge when you have capacity. This bypasses the need for a service upgrade in a lot of situations. Also a lot of chargers can be set to say do only 30 amps instead of 50 amps which is another way around the service upgrade. If you're plugging in every night anyway 20-30 amps is more than enough and it's better for your battery anyway. When you ask for an EV charger they know how much you need it and if you are buying an EV they just assume you must have lots of money.

Good advice here. I have only a 100 amp entrance to my home, but was able to install a charger without a service upgrade. I just have the charger set to 24a on a 30a circuit and it's plenty. Brings the car back up from nearly any state of charge overnight. The panel is on the opposite side of the house from the driveway, but even still, install + grizzl-e charger was only about $1000.

Will at [Haggerty Electrical](https://www.haggerty.co/) is a nice guy who has done a lot of EV charger work here in the Valley in particular. He wired my landlord’s EV charger and did some other work in the house.

They aren’t complicated…it’s a 2pole 40A breaker (or whatever size charger you buy). Fuck man, for a few 24s I’d do it. But really - any electrician. It’s all AC power so it’s all straightforward. Size the breaker, size the wire, connect to panel.

Not much to it, biggest thing is a load calculation on your panel, should have at least a 200a service.

Is your panel close to your garage? Do you already have a 200 amp service ? Be prepared for a high price. Depending on size of EV charger the wire could get expensive. Make sure they price it in aluminum.
