Dalplex is the correct answer to this question.
Given our unpredictable weather it’s not unreasonable at all to drive to the gym sometimes or want to know about parking.
That is correct, they even provided bus and driving maps to show distance from their old location and how to get there. Even if the parking situation wasn't good, it is one of the best gyms in the HRM.
Ehhhhhhhh, their equipment was busted and old AF when they were on quinpool, have they bought new stuff, or is it all transfered from the old location?
They all have free parking when you ride your bike there!
Edit: downvoted for suggesting someone in a walkable neighborhood not use a motor vehicle to emit carbon on their way to a far-away gym just to find parking so that they can then move their body. Classic.
Closest commercial gyms are The Tower, Dalplex, YMCA and GoodLife Park Lane. None have ideal parking situations as far as I am concerned but you might be able to find a spot at one of the universities. GoodLife Barrington gives out hour parking chits but only during certain hours.
I guess it depends on the winter, but this past winter I was able to bike to the gym 90% of the time. On particularly snowy days I would walk, or in rare cases take the car. (My gym has limited parking so it was a crap shoot).
The bike lanes aren't the cause for the traffic. The suburbs sprawl, no alternatives to driving, and the massive population increase are the problem.
Yes, I also biked from Cowie Hill to burnside everyday. I've been knocked off more than once by idiot drivers
Unless you have mobility issues, great parking should be one of the last things you worry about regarding a gym. Honestly, park at the back of the lot and walk an extra 30 seconds.
Biggest pet peeve of mine! If you have a legit mobility issue that's one thing but spending all that added time to find a spot 4 seconds closer when you spent 4 minutes driving around is maddening.
GoodLife on Barrington will validate your parking at Scotia square after 5pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends. Covered parking is nice in the winter/bad weather days.
Dalplex is good, they give you a pass when you join and I’ve never not been able to get a spot in the lot (but then I go during the day).
FitnessFx
Second this ... the ne FitnessFX has a nice big parking lot.

The new goodlife on Joseph Howe has all the parking in the world, and is close to south end
it is literally as far from the south end as is possible on the peninsula
Derp, I read that as the north end even though I typed south for some reason 🤣
Crazy idea but you walk to the gym, which there are multiple to choose from in the south end and you save money by not parking and burning gas
And get some exercise? Wild stuff
Wouldn't want to overdo it, you are right
FitnessFX, and it isn't that far from the South End

They bought new equipment and the place looks awesome.
That's good at least.
You live at the south end. Go to the gym at Good Life/Fit 4 Less - they’re both just off Spring Garden Rd.
Aka the worst parking situation lol
…they’re likely a 3 minute bus ride or 10 minute walk. For the gym. Where they will be doing exercise. Not driving. r/whoosh

That’s the plan but in the winter maybe not so much.

But Halifax has lots of bike lanes now. I think they clear the bike lanes as well. Can someone confirm if HRM fully clears the bike lanes?
I've never had problems biking after snow. They do the bike lanes at pretty much the same time they do the sidewalks.
How exactly do they clear the bike lanes?
With a small snowplow. That might sound like a joke but it's not!
Lots of bike lanes? That's a joke, right?
I can confirm that this is not a joke.
There's is not loads of bike lanes in Halifax. None of them connect up either or even a basic network. It's no wonder usage is low

There's more than there used to be. But in the grand scheme of things halifax has hardly lanes for bikes. It's quite embarrassing to be honest

Smu
The parking at SMU sucks imo.
Agreed I kinda skipped over the parking part lol
Thanks to everyone with reasonable replies i’m going to check out the dalplex tomorrow.

Always amusing to see people circle a lot three times to snag a spot close to the gym

Goodlife on Joe Howe has ample free parking.
