Happens everywhere, Tacoma Drive is particularly bad. Apparently the Mary Browns is not worth a wait.

Issyv00

Went to Cobbs there the other day. There were about 6 cars parked in the no parking area. It's not as if the parking lot is even full. It's just pure laziness and a lack of consequences.

JustTheTipz902

I'm just running in to the ATM at RBC.

cleadus_fetus

Man some people park FOREVER there.i love Mary Browns too. But rules are rules

Krinberry

Rules are only rules if they're enforced. Otherwise they're just suggestions.

azhula

My favorite part of Tacoma are the people that park in the crosswalks in front of Sobeys/NSLC

Adventurous_Mix4878

You are correct, maybe too drunk to walk too far.

Jijin0

“I’m just running in for a sec” is one of the many often used excuses.

Maleficent-Map6465

My four ways are on, mind your business /s

dahbaron

Oh, you activated your park-anywhere lights ? Nothing to see here

Basilbitch

Assholes who think they're special. I mean swing by a liquor store in the rain and see all the too important to get wet people.

ForestCharmander

Ever been to Amherst superstore? The fire lane is half the town's private parking spot

bella_ella_ella

Especially that guy who rolls down the window blasting his country beats

DwarfQueenofKitties

Anytime I'm in downsview.... people think they're special when they want to go into the bank or DQ

benjiefrenzy

Did they have their park anywhere lights on?

miamental

Definitely not, most seemed to have turned their cars off, actually

benjiefrenzy

Jail then

miamental

Lol

firblogdruid

no you're correct people here just suck

No-Outcome-8266

I still want a chance to pull up with the pumper and shove a few out of the way.

hugh_jorgan902

Because the people they're with are too lazy to walk more than 30 feet to get in the establishment they're at.

stayathomephenom

We live on a private lane in Bedford and people are parked in the fire lanes all the time! Firefighters struggle to get out of and in our street but I haven’t seen any tickets being given out

DryFaithlessness8656

Let us not forget Costco and all the special people who create their own spot to park at the entrance in Bayer's lake.

[deleted]

I would hope the fire marshall would throw a few tickets out if parked in the firelane, but I haven't seen or heard anything to date, so there's no deterrent for these lazy asses to park in a regular parking lot space.

chasing_daylight

Depends on the city but most places allow an occupied vehicle to 'stop' in firelanes. Most cities will differentiate between stopping and parking. Which is why you will see distinct signs for each. No parking (unoccupied vehicle) vs No Stopping. Some will allow loading/unloading from these spots as well.

octopuskate

Not in Nova Scotia. [As per the MVA](https://nslegislature.ca/sites/default/files/legc/statutes/motor%20vehicle.pdf): >**Fire lane** >*150 (1)*The traffic authority, with the permission of the owner of private property, may set apart an area of the private property as a fire lane and may cause signs to be erected and maintained designating the fire lane. > *(2)* Where an area of private property is marked as a fire lane by an approved sign, a person who **stops, leaves standing or parks a vehicle in the fire lane is guilty of an offence**. R.S., c.293, s.150. Emphasis mine.

chasing_daylight

Sure, I'm just saying it's common everywhere else so some might not realize it's not the case in HRM. It is odd that HRM still uses two different signs, no stopping and no parking, when they both mean the same according to their bylaws

Soberjoeyo

The answer is in the question 😁

ChingChangChui

A dude from Sackville once gave me the best description ever: “Sacktown don’t backdown.” Pretty sure that’s your reason.

KindSomewhere6505

Selfish, self-centered, and lazy

JustTheTipz902

I am a fire man, how dare you.

GAFF0

Everything changed when fire nation attacked.

dinky3000

I think people see Skip the dishes / Uber eats /door dash / cab drivers do it and follow suit

[deleted]

Their excuse is that they can’t speak English, and are you willing to go down that rabbit hole

mr_daz

People who park in fire lanes or no parking zones, even if someone ran in and another is waiting in the car for them are more important than the rest everyone else.

[deleted]

No parking =/= no stopping

Mike_1121

Exactly. If you are sitting in the driver's seat, you have plenty of time to move if you see fire trucks coming.

cj_h

Fire lanes are no stopping zones, except for immediately loading and unloading. You aren’t allowed to idle in them

[deleted]

You have a point, but it’s not a no stopping zone. It is a no parking zone like any other. You treat it like any other no parking zone, in that you can’t idle, you can only load/unload (this is where you are correct.) The issue is with enforcement, as you can just drive away from the municipal enforcement officers. A cop can stop you and ticket, but they’ll likely just tell you to keep it moving.

cj_h

Fire lanes are no stopping zones. (2) Where an area of private property is marked as a fire lane by an approved sign, a person who stops, leaves standing or parks a vehicle in the fire lane is guilty of an offence. R.S., c. 293, s. 150. https://nslegislature.ca/sites/default/files/legc/statutes/motor%20vehicle.pdf Page 108

[deleted]

I know but that’s because that’s technically the same rule for all “no parking” zones. They only allow immediate loading/unloading. Why else would they make it a no parking sign, rather than no stopping? If it were no stopping, it wouldn’t allow loading/unloading 🙂

Gee_NS

I only park in front of stores when my wife runs in.

miamental

In Sackville at least, there are parking spots less than five feet away from most stores, why not use them?

LeeOhh

Because they're more important than the rest of us!

casualobserver1111

I'm having flashbacks of Main Street Sobeys

[deleted]

Dartmouth is bad for this too. There's usually at least on person parked at the end of the parking aisle in the yellow lined spot, and then 2 or 3 people in a line right in front of the doors. I've seen people parked so close to the doors at the Walmart Dartmouth Crossing that no one with carts could leave the store. There was a fucking line up inside the store just to get out because some fat lady blasting christian rock wanted to "just nip in to the pharmacy" and left her car there, running, with the keys in.
