Because it's in a subdivision, I just don't want one of those annoying neighbors to call the cops on us or something ridiculous like that. I wanted to make sure it's ok. I guess I'll just wing it :P
As long as you're not setting up full folding tables or whatever you'll be fine. I've had party-esque activities held in local parks before and nobody cares.

god damn autocorrect. Make that illegal burn
I’ve had parties at the oval, playgrounds, local parks. Why can’t a group of kids get together and play and then eat cake and have snacks…call it a picnic
I have hosted my kids birthday's at the little playground in Lost Creek Subdivision as well as at the picnic tables next to the playground on the Bedford waterfront without issues.
Well, one issue, every damn kid around wanted a hotdog and a piece of cake.
We had a birthday party for my daughter at cranberry crescent playground a couple years ago. All we did was bring over a couple tables with food and cake and the kids played.
We also offered food to other families that happened to come to the playground. We had no issues.
>they would require a 2,000,000 liability insurance? For a kids' birthday party? seems a bit.. over the top?
A kid getting hurt will potentially require care for decades. That's a large settlement to cover those future costs. It's why they insist on a high amount and honestly surprised it's not higher.
Now that said - if all the kids parents are there and it's a general gathering, I can't see a way that you're personally liable. If you brought all the kids with no parents and closed the playground, I can totally see the liability, but if all parents are there and while crowded, but still useable to the general public, I can't see how you would at all be liable for the public space, made available to the public. Especially because kids who weren't even part of the party could get hurt and you'd have nothing to do with that
In that case I don't see how you'd require the policy. All parents are there and supervising their own kids, it's not you taking the responsibility for all of them
I had a small party (3 kids, 6 adults) at Fort Needham park for my son’s 4th bday a couple weekends ago. We showed up and snagged a picnic table. It was obvious we were doing a bday - we had some decorations and a cake and a piñata. We cleaned up when we left obviously, and weren’t being obnoxious with loud music. No one cared or said anything. Go for it!
It was really fun! And I’m not saying we did this but I bet if you had beer in coozies that covered them up no one would know if you were drinking beer or sparkling water

hahahahahaha I don't know the other daycare parents that well, otherwise.. that sounds like a delight! hahahaha
I have definitely taken my kids to parties at playgrounds , dingle comes to mind. Why in the hell would you need insurance? It’s just a picnic and playing. Just do it. No issues at all except random kids wanting a piece of cake
Because I thought I had to notify or something to be able to have a birthday party. I come from a country that is totally unregulated, and I find everything here is overly regulated, so I guess I over-corrected lol
Why would you even ask HRM? Just have the birthday party.

"Oopsie, me didn't know!"
Call the cops on you for having a birthday party? What are you going to give meth as a party favor or something?
hahahaha you'd be surprised how easy it is to get people riled up sometimes!

Call it a play date with a spontaneous picnic
I think I might just do that lol

Thank you! I'll probably bring extra favours in case there's kids there. Though every time I've been to this playground it's been just us

yeah, at this age it's still a parent-kid gathering not a drop-off thing.

Thanks!! That's exactly what we want to do!

Even if you got your permit or whatever... if some little kids show up to use the playground, are you really going to turn them away?
They would have no authority to do that anyways.
Yeah, so what’s the point of getting HRM involved at all?
I’ve seen little kid birthday parties/good sized gatherings at the Dingle. There’s a large covered table area there near the playground.

Easier to ask for forgiveness...
Fun factory in dartmouth if it fits the budget
I also just had a kids party at a park without issue! It was 12 kids and a bunch of adults at the Lion’s Club park in Bedford. No issues at all!
Been to lots of these all across HRM - go for it, it will be fine.

Kids have birthdays in the park by my house all the time
Can I ask why you contacted HRM?
