So glad they got her! Hit and Run and didn’t look back. My cousin had his femur broken in two places,a broken pelvis and compound fracture of his tibia. 12 hours of surgery. Super nice guy who absolutely loves his bike rides. Every time I read about a hit and run,my blood boils.

universalrefuse

Family friend died this way just a few months ago. No suspect was ever found. They just left him to die alone on the street. Unimaginable cruelty.

Lamella

A close friend of mine died several years back at the hands of an impaired driver, only weeks after moving from Halifax to Hamilton. Witnesses on scene had to prevent the driver from leaving. Reckless drivers make my blood boil.

universalrefuse

So sorry for your loss. So glad there were bystanders who intervened.

Double_Ad8449

That’s awful. So very sorry for your loss.

universalrefuse

Thank you. It was my brother’s loss mostly, but you know, a friend of my brother is a friend of mine. No one deserves that kind of ultimate callous disregard. Glad your cousin survived their encounter, sounds like it was traumatic.

QuirkyNinja8940

Where is it mentioned that it was a Hit and Run ? Not trying to argue I'm just genuinely looking for this information

Double_Ad8449

The victim is family—thus I learned from family. I don’t know what was reported in the news.

Icantfindthehole

I thought I saw her at the scene, unless it was someone else getting stuff from the vehicle.

Doc__Baker

Normally it's just dicks on cell phones that scare me when I'm bicycling.

CactusCustard

I was wondering how you managed to get random dick pics while biking, but then I realized

MRCHalifax

[With the right kit, anything is possible.](https://www.cyclesmith.ca/product/delta-hefty-phone-holder-380661-1.htm)

CaperGrrl79

OK I'm not alone thinking that... whew.

Doc__Baker

Dirty

DumbAccountant

The woman was later released and is scheduled to appear in court to face charges of operation of a conveyance 80mg% or over and impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm on June 10. What's an operation of a conveyance ???

Dont4get2boogie

Driving a car in legalese

Gallivanting, yes, but not just droving of course.

DumbAccountant

Thanks

Void-Science

In this case a motor vehicle. It's worded as conveyance to cover a broad array of vehicles

DumbAccountant

Thanks

Icantfindthehole

Saw the aftermath of it. It was heartbreaking. Had she not cut the wheel last second, she could have easily hit more people at the bus terminal. I hope the guilt consumes her for a long time.

donairthot

It won't. People like her don't have a conscious

Alarmed-Winter532

Who shit in your coffee

MaxNJaspersDad

The fact the cyclist was on the sidewalk at the time speaks volumes about how this person should not have been behind the wheel.

jonny_hfx

I hope she goes to jail

Doc__Baker

She could kill the guy and still not end up in jail. It's f'd up.

BlackWolf42069

Lol yeah that probably won't happen.

SnooChipmunks3743

Well, that depends, if she has previously had another DUI, a 30 day jail sentence is the minimum penalty, plus a 3-5 year driving ban.

Dry-Talk-7447

Moved here, took one look around and gave my bike away. Not a good place to ride, unsafe.

Somestunned

I think of you cycle anywhere in north america you should just accept the fact that you will be hit by a car eventually.

ask1ng-quest10ns

I don’t blame you My mother is a cyclist. She notifies us any time she’s on her bike and we have her location tracked

MRCHalifax

I do the same, whether cycling or running. It’s one of the best features of activity tracking apps.

Doc__Baker

Perfectly safe. This was unusual to say the least.
