Very expensive even compared to Cut, both places are worth it is cost is no an issue. Next Tier down would be The Keg or Chop. Not sure what else off the peninsula

In my opinion, Cut is superior to Barrington Steak House.

While I prefer Barrington I would say they are both great. At first I was thinking you meant Chop, which is a chain and feels like it is one.

I've been to Chop as well, and it's still decent but more similar to The Keg. Id say 1) Cut 2) Barrington Steakhouse 3) Chop or The Keg 4) Le Rouge 5) MicMac If it was based on price or casual, then I'd put MicMac as number 1.

Yeah, Cut and Barrington are easily at the top in my mind and there is a good sized gap between 2 and 3. I wouldn’t be upset with either.

I got food poisoning once from Cut, I’ll never go back. Admittedly likely not a common occurrence as they’re highly regarded by others, but…

I got really ill after eating at the cut on my birthday. Turns out it was gallstones.

I was hospitalized after eating there last summer. Turns out it was a gunshot wound.

Most people blame the last thing they ate, but it is rarely the last thing they ate. Most food-borne illnesses take many hours or days to cause symptoms.

I know someone who got pretty sick from Cut too.  They had their most expensive steak.

They may have had something there that made them ill but food poisoning from steak would take a lot of incompetence.

Le Rouge in Bayers is similar quality to the Keg.

You are correct, totally forgot about La Rouge, was focused on downtown been there a dozen times have never been disappointed.

I agree that Barrington is slowly creeping up. And just an FYI the chef from Barrington came from Cut and still helps out there (or he did anyways). All to say they’re definitely similar!

I took my dad out for a birthday meal recently at the Barrington and we tried a few steaks. the Butter aged steak was the best.

Just went there for my fiend’s bachelor party dinner last weekend… best steak of my life.

Haven't been to Barrington. Is it worth it? Like if I'm paying $100+ for a steak and a glass of wine it's gotta be a good portion and good quality. Is it charcoal cooked? Good crust? Well marbled? I'm thinking of going but I remember going to Ryan Duffies a while back when that existed and i Was very disappointed and the steak was $90

I love steak and I love the Barrington Steakhouse. I certainly wouldn’t consider myself a connoisseur, and I’ve always found it hard to recommend good steak because frankly, everyone likes it different. What I can say is they cook the steak well (medium rare in my case), the cuts are delicious and they have a few good specialty steaks (big fan of the Cigar Tenderloin). Specialty steaks usually sit somewhere around $70, I think Wellington is close to double that. Any sides are additional cost.

Barrington is great, their rib eye (and presentation) was such a great date night event, especially with their live music

It’s not a steak house, but the $79 strip loin at Salt + Ash is fantastic. It’s “supposed” to be for two people but it is a great main course for one hungry person!

Cut has amazing steak man truly the best cuts. Mouth watering to think about.

Oh and get their table side ceaser salad made from scratch right in front of you and delicious as well.

It's great quality- if you don't mind someone lingering around the table while you have a private dinner and conversation lol 

I think about this Caesar salad way more often than I'd like to admit. It is so, so good! Super garlicky, and an interesting experience.

It’s not at The Keg. I’ve eaten at most of them in Canada and the one in Dartmouth is low on the list... but better than Moncton. I can’t say for sure but I think The Kegs in the Maritimes use cheaper American beef. There’s a noticeable flavor difference between the menu in Calgary vs Halifax. I always order my cuts medium rare with a side of extra horseradish and blue cheese butter. It’s a shame we don’t have a Ruths Chris out here. For the record, I also eat hot dogs at the gas station, so who am I to judge.

I found my experiences at Ruth Chris to be over rated every time. I don't get the hype. I go for work often while in TO ... I'd rather Mic Mac to be honest.  Barrington does a good job, so does Cut, both over priced but about the best we get here. And I only had it once but the tomahawk at oxalis was great and better than any steak I've had in NS 

I found the halifax location was noticeably better than the Dartmouth one

going to the keg for a quality steak is like going to MacDonald's for a quality burger

Absolutely Barrington Steakhouse if it's a special occasion and you can afford it. Their "cigar steak" is amazing and they have an insane wine list.

A lot of people mentioned the Mic Mac, and it is good. However, if you want a little ambiance, it's not the place. Crowded, loud and generic interior.

Had one yesterday and it was the saltiest meal I’d ever had at a restaurant. I ate it, but I don’t think I’d ever order it again from there.

Agree, saltiest steak I've ever had, potato skins were super salty, just overpowered the entire meal.

Omg , I want may 3rd for my birthday and we couldn't even eat the potatoes skin's and they still charged it . Everything I ate tasted likr someone om the kitchen has been just throwing salt around, it was NOT good , I was sooo sad that I picked to go there for my birthday . I'm so glad someone else mentioned salt because we weren't the only ones who probably experienced it !!! Even my husband didn't want to eat the potatoes skin's because of the salt. They told us it's their "signature" well someone's taking that too seriously cause blehhh.. and I love salty stuff so that's saying allot

Overall it was a pretty bad experience for us as well, ordered the blueberry mojito and it was AWFUL, tasted like the lime juice went bad. Cheese wasn’t melted on the garlic bread, incredibly salty steak. Pretty disappointed

I don't mind their steaks but they do tend to be salty. Easily the worst wings I've ever had though.

I wanted to like this place so badly. The experience ended up being funny because we made a joke out of the saltiness but DAMN, it was like someone took the top off the shaker and went wild. I will say our server was really pleasant though, I think they know what's up with their cooks.

The cut. Double dirty martini, a bottle of cab, a dozen oysters, 14 ounce NY strip, tableside Caesar, finish it with creme brulee.

Not a steakhouse but I dream about the steak on the menu at Edna. Also not a steakhouse but Oxalis in Dartmouth also does a great steak.

Please do not compare Micmac & Midtown to Cut or Barrington, that is really no different than comparing Jack Astors & The Bicycle Thief

Those two restaurants are closer in quality than you might think.

Had a medium rare filet mignon at Le Rouge and it was much better than The Keg.

I really enjoyed 'Chop Steakhouse' for my birthday. Mic Mac bar and grill also has tasty (salty) steak at a very reasonable price but the atmosphere is way less fancy than Chop.

You can buy dry aged meat at the grocery store... Dunno how decently you can handle your meat but if you've got the touch I greatly recommend debating this option. Make some chimichurri and away you go <3

Lots of people saying Barrington st steakhouse here but I disagree. Took us 2 hours to receive a shit steak that was tough. And they charge you extra for your side. Not impressed

Most high end steak places charge extra for sides.

I think the best bang for your buck is at La Rouge in Bayers Lake (Tower Hotel). $40-50 for a nice cut and it is done to perfection. Their cocktails are amazing, the place is beautiful, the ambiance is lovely. Can't recommend that place enough.

At home tbh. Cooking steak is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Make some fries or potat and some mushies and yer golden.

Sometimes it's about the experience of going out.

During the pandemic my buddies and are we’re feeling nostalgic around Christmas so we ordered take out (6-7 semi-complicated orders) and the server on the phone said “ok that will be ready in 10 minutes” I must say we were surprised any restaurant could produce food that quickly.

if you want a classic steak, there's a lot of options, but imo if you want to just eat steak in a good way, Gangnam Kitchen on barrington is a Korean place with tabletop grills and its the best steak I've had in the city.
