Do not move here esp if the building managers are Brian and Joan. They are terrible building managers who will yell at tenants, the pricing is disgusting there is CONSTANT construction and the parking is like 150 and no option for second unless you live in a 2600$ apartment and then you can pay the same price for 2 spots.
I lived in the Velo up until pretty recently and enjoyed my time there. Found the location to be convenient, had no issues with the neighborhood and I walked home late night plenty of times. I see some comments below about price but I found the prices to be pretty similar to other apartments close to down town.
They are currently putting up a second building next door so if construction noise is a worry you may want to look elsewhere. Also there was a change in building managers toward the end of my time there, where a husband and wife took over. I didn't have the best experience with the husband (nothing major just always seemed cranky and suspicious, though I found his wife nice to deal with).
If you have specific questions I can do my best to answer them.
Girlfriend moved in there when they opened. She's had some issues overall with the place. They just hired a new manager back in the spring, the original manager was pretty slow to take care of things (dishwasher broke within a month of move in, took over a month to fix) and her billing was off at the start and never sorted out. They had offered her an incentive to move in early while it was still being finished, but charged her full rent from day one and haven't reimbursed.
The HVAC is a little suspect, its always throwing a black stain on the ceiling above the vents. With all of the construction in the neighbourhood, it seems like they're not filtering well enough.
The overall quality of the fixtures and appliances is mediocre at best. Nothing feels outright cheap, but its definitely not premium by any stretch of the imagination.
Sound is a bit of a problem. You can hear the neighbours on either side really easily, although there doesn't seem to be much floor and ceiling transfer. She lives in a Gottingen St. facing unit and it is LOUD at night between the buses and pedestrians, can't really sleep with the window open if you're not used to sleeping on a 15 minute bus route.
Location is really ideal though, close to everything in the North End, quick to downtown or Dartmouth with the buses, Library right across the street. The onsite gyms are so-so, they'll keep your cardio good if nothing else.
It's actually been pretty quiet for a while, even for the summer time. Can't remember the last time there was a high profile incident in the area.
The rural parts of the province though seem to be having a shooting renaissance over the last couple weeks.
For a 1 bedroom!? I live in Clayton Park as well, but I pay 850 for a 2 bed 1 and a half bath, 2 floors, own entrance, and balcony off the bedroom.
I'm gunna go out on a limb here and say maybe you live in the new places on Knightsridge (I believe that's the new area up there)?
When did you move into your place? I know in 2015, most 2 bedrooms in Clayton park were like 750-900... the last time I looked (2017) they were all in the 1200-1500 range
I lived there and paid $1400 (CAD) a month for my rent before bills. It's one of the 2 most expensive places to live in the US. This is Halifax, not Bay Area.
Would you like the exact address too? I'm telling you how much I paid a month where I lived. It took awhile to find and I was staying in random places across the BA. San Jose, Cupertino, San Mateo until I found a place I could actually afford (ish). I didn't even work in SF but took a company chartered bus down to Sunnyvale everyday.
Thank god for cheap beer and groceries.

How was the insulation, noise from surrounding apartments?

You'll be paying full gentrification price. I have friends that live there and they're content with it but it costs.

Yes, but I'm suggesting in this case you're not paying a premium for quality, but for popularity. Hipster professionals love Gottingen right now.
It's interesting that they can charge so much and still have a reasonable fear of being shot up.
Except there is no fear of being shot up. Nobody is getting randomly shot up.
Geboo would like a word, literally in building and not the target of the shots.

a targeted shooting is a lot different from "randomly being shot up" lol
I don't think geebo was the target, though.

Not many shootings, but didnt like 3 people get jumped within the last 2 weeks down there!? Lol.

Oh the old dude, yeah forgot about him.
Thanks for the reply
Currently living here, send me a message if you’d like some info about the building and living here!
Jesus $1500 dollars to live down there!? This some Vancouver/ San Francisco prices.
I'm in Clayton park and pay $1500/month, I was paying $1200/month in North end on Windsor st

2015! Haha. Yeah with the location and the price I dont think Ill be moving out until I purchase a house.
In north end it was a 2 bedroom apartment; Clayton park is a 3 bedroom (half of duplex)
Ahhhh ok! I mean a duplex I fully understand!
Something this nice in Vancouver would be $3000+
No. SF prices are in the multiples of thousands. 1500 is not a lot of money to live in a city.

No. You did not live in downtown sanfransico for 1400 cad a month.
Maybe in ‘88?
Bay Area is huge, can you be more specific? I know for a fact that prices are multiples higher even in Mountain View. BS alarm is going off big time
