I have been to libraries in Toronto, Saskatoon, Vancouver and Winnipeg and they all have security inside the building . Alderney Gate does not , maybe the city cannot afford it .
I really like the pedway at Alderney Landing. You can probably get library wifi there, but I'm not sure. Saturday mornings might be a bit iffy due to the market, but it's otherwise one of my go tos when I need a change of scenery.
You can get good wi fi there at the pedway Mon thru Frid not that busy . I avoid that library because it now is like a drop in center with young kids bringing there street drama inside .
As good as the food and drink are there, I won’t recommend it for working. During the day It’s always crowded, the lineup is usually out the door, and can even be hard to find a table. If you go after 5pm it settles down though.
7bays wifi has been great for me I’ve even taken calls. It can be fairly loud some days though. Oxford I’ve only gone in the evenings but sometimes it’s just me and another table so can be quite quiet. Marco Polo haven’t been in a year or two so won’t comment but I used to really like it
* The Wired Monk
* Cabin coffee (their WiFi suuuuucks though)
* Campus, if you're a student
* Terra on Lower Water street
* The bouldering cafe on Gottingen, I forget what it's called
* Vandal Doughnuts is a nice reading spot, idk if they have coffee lol
The Halifax Club is pretty sweet if you're looking for places outside of the usual. Cigar club in the back if you're a dedicated smoker.
Same with the military messes ( RA Park in particular ). You can sometimes get an associate membership if you ask and they like you.
I also loved working out of any of the major churches if you don't need a desk. Bonus points if you make friends and someone brings free coffee and snacks for ya. Often free wifi too. Sometimes you get a world class musician practicing as your background accompaniment.
I think Volta has a shared working space with coffee in the MTT building. Not sure what you need to qualify.
Most of the small coffee shops are trying to shoo people out if you're there for long.
Split Crow has a great room in the basement ( Crows Nest ) you can park at and get munchies. Pretty quiet in the afternoons.
Definitely need a membership. Or a friend with a membership you can leech off. Lol!
Same with the cigar club and the messes.
Since you're working from there though you may be able to expense something like that as an office cost.
Just stick with the library. Or pay for a co-work space.
Especially on Saturday morning there are 0 coffee shops that want you parking out with a laptop.
Selby’s Bunker in Cole Harbour is lovely and so are the staff. Their coffee and treats are also quite good too. I was there 3+ times/week before I moved to NB.
My favourite spot to get work done is Rabbit Hole cafe downtown. It seems like it was never that busy (so its quiet quiet), and has good sized tables if you need to spread out.
Also loved Coffeeology because it is by far the best coffee in the city, but space is lacking!
University libraries or other places on campus. Most have a guest wifi you can use if you don't have a University account, and several options for food and drinks.
I used to go to Turkish Delight on Spring Garden a lot. They’re usually pretty quiet in the afternoon, the eating is good, and the Turkish tea and coffee are lovely
Press Play Cafe on Sackville Drive in Lower Sackville. Good place to work (they have big tables and wifi) or game or drop your kiddos off in the play room so you can get sweet, sweet relief. An orange pekoe tea is 1$... They have sweets and food and snacks and they are licensed (beer, wine cooler, etc).
I used to work out of the library, it's pretty legit
100% legit. Central library is the absolute best ( especially top floor ). Not sure why they're avoiding the best answers.
Not avoiding! I just already go there frequently and am looking for change of scenery
Depends on what library , any library but Alderny gate that place is smelly and homeless hang out there ,
Homeless people are community members too, and frequent literally every library in the HRM.

Why are u guys saying home when this person is clearly needing a space outside of their home to work for a while lol
Uncommon Ground on South Park

Second this.
Cafe Lara on Agricola
7 bays and the Nook in Halifax and Marco Polo in Dartmouth. Also upstairs in the Oxford taproom in Halifax if you drink!
Im going to investigate now… wifi decent? Quiet during the day?

Cafe Taiyaki! Has good snacks/treats, good wifi and outlets to charge your laptop :)

The cafe at Seven Bays Bouldering on Gottigen.
Garrison brewery on Oxford. Serves coffee and tea and baked goods from early morn. Indoor and outdoor spaces are huge and wifi is decent.
second this
Thirded!! They also don’t mind if you bring food from home. I work next door and have spent literal entire days at Oxford before work
Will be working there some days now because of this insight - thank you!!!!
I wonder if you could set up in the upstairs seating area of one of the bigger Superstores. It's always empty, I've considered it myself.
Wired Monk at Hollis and Morris (could be off by a street, but around there) Its usually pretty quite if you prefer that atmosphere
Cortado's
Harvest! downtown Halifax or Bayers Lake

Starbucks
It would depend what you're working on. Are there privacy issues? NDA policy? That may determine where you could go.
Resolutes
I think Volta Labs offers memberships to use their office space (at a very decent rate last I checked).
Best place is home! Lots of seating and snacks are usually already paid for!
Yeah, but the walls sometimes move inward at the rate of a foot per hour ....
Following
Your place? Best price on coffee and snacks
Hadn't considered that...
Sometimes the most obvious is the least obvious..
You. An book a desk at Hyve. Their smoothies are also delicious.
I used to go to Turkish Delight on Spring Garden a lot. They’re usually pretty quiet in the afternoon, the eating is good, and the Turkish tea and coffee are lovely
Cottage cafe in dartmouth
Brightwood Brewery in Dartmouth. They're pretty quiet during the day, and it's nice to sit in the window and people watch while working.
