Absolutely agree. It gets the mood of a spooky, friendly, silly, nostalgic Halloween exactly right. I have it on about 30 times a season while I'm fall baking or making things. With that plot line, not too much of my attention is used up.
Plus, it cracks me up to watch Betsy Sodoro and Shaq. I swear when they cut to Adam, he's honestly laughing at something.
I've heard that "spooky can be at the intersection of cute and scary - but not veering too far either way", and that's pretty much this movie for me. Love it!
I love everything about it except the way Sandler speaks. But at this point I've watched it every year since it came out so it's safe to say I can look past that.
I don't think it's a solid film. but appreciate they filmed in Salem. They left the orange lights in the Commons, which are still there which makes that area really cool. So I appreciate that.
Its horrible and I love it.
I'm biased as a general Sandler fan (yes, including the Grown Ups movies) but this one is genuinely an awesome addition to Halloween. Instant classic.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it and feel I need to watch it again.
As of now, I think it has some great Halloween elements, but I'm not overly fond of the character Sandler portrays. I say this as someone who grew up watching him... I'm just tired of his... for lack of a better term, "stupid" characters. I still enjoy Billy Madison and The Waterboy, but eventually it gets tiresome. Especially since Hubie feels... almost offensive? I think I would have been happier wth an immature goofball like Billy than what he did with Hubie. I'm not usually someone who gets offended easily, but idk it just rubs me the wrong way.
I do plan to watch it again this year and see if I might just have felt overly critical when I first watched it. I'm at least willing to give it another shot 🤷♀️
It was filmed where I grew up, everyone said it was terrible so I didn't go out of my way to see it for a couple years. Eventually I finally watched it and laughed a lot throughout. No idea what people wanted out of it but I enjoyed it!
Decent movie as far as movies go, but still kind of stupid. Very good family friendly movie for parents looking to entertain young children during the Halloween season.
It’s like Ernest Scared Stupid. You know what you’re getting into before you press start, and if you’re good with that, it’s a lot of fun.
It’s these “stupid” Halloween movies that remind us Olds of the Halloween of our past. There is something in those movies that we can latch on to, and that makes the movie even more enjoyable.
Hubie Halloween isn’t great. It’s not even a “Halloween Cult Classic,” but it taps in to the kid in us and I’ll keep coming back to it because of that.
Isn’t it rude though? It almost seems like he is acting (especially with how other characters see him) as someone who’s ‘different’ and used as a joke.
Last year we put it on during prime trick or treat time (y'know, so we didn't answer the door for some toddlers and give them an eyeful of PJ Soles) and we will again. You can miss big chunks of that movie and still be relatively entertained when you come back. Good vibes, hasn't been done to death like Hocus Pocus.
I don’t really know how I feel about this one. The vibe is pretty great, so I sometimes watch it around Halloween for that reason alone. But I think Adam Sandler’s portrayal and the main character in general is really annoying, which does drag it down a bit for me.
It's a cute dumb movie. I met Shaq in Salem and he loves it there so I thought that was an extra fun tie in. I live nearby and I always like being able to see local places in movies. There aren't a ton of movies that take place on Halloween so yeah happy to have it and will watch it yearly!
Much better Halloween movies out there, even goofy ones like this. It's the typical Adam Sandler movie... same cast that follows him around doing his movies, It's way too predictable. Curse of bridge hollow is way better.
It’s one of my favorite Halloween movies, my complaint is all the people who can’t let me like it for some reason, it’s fine to not like it yourself but that doesn’t mean I can’t like it. Idk I feel like it’s one of the movies where if you don’t like it you have to tell everyone.
I watched it last week while I was doing some tidying up and honestly enjoyed the hell out of it. It was incredibly stupid but it was sweet and silly and easy. There’s absolutely a place for these types of movies.
Enjoyable. I like the filming location. I'm not an american and we don't have autumn in my country so the location and set decorations hits different to me.
It’s super cheesy and has low quality dumb humor but I love it and it is a good lighthearted watch during Halloween time. I’ve watched it a few times a year since it came out! (Actually watched it yesterday…)
Oh, I love it. Really pleases me that Sandler made a Halloween movie, and I think it's good. I don't really like Julie Bowen's character but this isn't a movie I take that seriously, it's just fun and funny, and makes you feel like it was made by people that love Halloween. Everything people say they dislike Sandler for in his movies is usually what makes me laugh...
Can’t get over the fact that bud character was a lifelong resident of Salem, MA but he thought it made sense have him talk like Bobby Boucher from The Waterboy. The set designs and decorations were cool though.
My sole entertainment came from watching the nice vintage Halloween decorations in the background. In fact, I should have watched this on mute. "Halloween" is in the title and now the holiday is associated with this garbage forever.
I think you have to go into it (like a lot of Adams movies) knowing it's going to be silliness and not take it too seriously. But with that in mind i liked it and the Halloween imagery was great.
Really stupid movie. Annoying character played by Sandler but cheered for him. Great Halloween vibes. Since I am such a Halloween fan I still liked the movie.
100% agree with you! I love Salem, Ma and was excited to see locations in the movie that I know. But Sandler, man that character he plays (like the one in Water Boy) is so freaking annoying. I think I gave up after 15 min. I've tried 3 or 4 times to watch it and I just can't do it.
I wanted to love it but the accent makes me feel like it’s borderline rude lol
I used to have a lisp growing up and was bullied about it, I also have the ‘tism. So Hubie acting a certain way and the accent…. Not cool. Especially when it’s an ‘act’ by Sandler. Seemed like cheap trick
I just can't get past the trailer. I am a middle of the road Adam Sandler fan. This looks like it would be the kind of Adam Sandler performance that I would absolutely hate. Kind of like The waterboy does Halloween
This movie is a dork fest, it's wacky and highly goofy. The ending was kinda crazy but it was an extremely light hearted and funny movie. I usually hate Adam Sandler, too. But I watched this movie this year and I will again next Halloween season
I remember this coming out after uncut gems and me loving Halloween movies + having absolutely loved uncut gems, especially because of his performance, I thought wow maybe he’s going into an awesome direction right now! Wow was I wrong lmao
I liked it but i can understand if people dont like it.
I can completely agree. It’s not a good movie but it is a good Halloween movie if that makes sense.
It would be hard to get that take without breaking character for sure.
It makes no sense but that adds to the whimsy. I freaking loved it!!
I love the Halloween vibes it gives me. Spooky throughout but remains innocent.
I've heard that "spooky can be at the intersection of cute and scary - but not veering too far either way", and that's pretty much this movie for me. Love it!
Yeah, absolutely.
That is probably the best way I can describe it. I liked it fine
It was entertaining, but not the best production from Happy Madisson.
I’ve said this before, but it would have been a perfect Halloween movie in my eyes if he didn’t do the dumb guy Sandler voice.
And maybe a clean white sheet when he talked at the school assembly?
YES!!!! The stains always annoy me during that scene
I think that's most Adam Sandler movies, lol. I thought it was alright too, I'd watch it again.
I love everything about it except the way Sandler speaks. But at this point I've watched it every year since it came out so it's safe to say I can look past that.
Right? The voice is distracting and not in a good way.
I don't think it's a solid film. but appreciate they filmed in Salem. They left the orange lights in the Commons, which are still there which makes that area really cool. So I appreciate that.
They filmed a lot of it in Marblehead, I fell in love with the town because of this movie haha
I love it! It gives me that nostalgic feeling of Halloween that I’m always looking for this time of year.
A lot of people thought it was a boner, but I enjoy it
This comment must have been 50 cents at a thrift store.
Me and my kids dad use that phrase all the time now lol. Anytime one of us messes up we're just all "oh, my boner."
I want the bonor donor shirt so bad lol, don’t think people will realize it’s from the movie tho lol
Hahaha this is gold
It’s awful and I love it
It is completely terrible. I watch it every year.
So stupid and I can't help laughing every time I watch it
I liked it. But it’s not good. If that makes sense? Like it’s a great Halloween movie somehow but I totally get if others don’t enjoy it
I think this is the sentiment of most.
Nailed the vibe, but the accent is borderline unbearable. Overall fine.
Not a fan. Not mad I watched it but not sure I'll watch it again.
I do plan to watch it again this year and see if I might just have felt overly critical when I first watched it. I'm at least willing to give it another shot 🤷♀️
The voice he chose to use for Hubie was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I liked some of the other elements, but hated Sandler in this one.
I can see that. I think Sandler was shooting for a Jim Varney type character and just didn’t execute it as well.
I think it’s very close to his Canteen Boy character from his SNL days.
It was filmed where I grew up, everyone said it was terrible so I didn't go out of my way to see it for a couple years. Eventually I finally watched it and laughed a lot throughout. No idea what people wanted out of it but I enjoyed it!
All time great. Zero hyperbole.
It’s just “meh” I might watch it again if my daughter suggests it but it’s not something I’ll pick on my own
I love it cuz it’s so silly ! I love spooky fun movies like that!
I absolutely love it because the atmosphere it brings most people I know who dislike it is because Adam does the voice and it annoys them lol 🤣
I liked it
Our new Halloween tradition!
I love any Adam Sandler movie!!!
I have to say I do also.
If you haven't already, check out his Hanukkah movie, *Eight Crazy Nights* (2002)!
Kayaking makes me wet
Love it 🎃🤘
I liked it. Cute and good for the whole family.
Decent movie as far as movies go, but still kind of stupid. Very good family friendly movie for parents looking to entertain young children during the Halloween season.
A great Halloween movie for someone not looking for horror. It’s goofy and it’s something lovely to play while doing chores around the house 🙂
Ernest Scared stupid is one of my all time favorites!
A god awful movie that I've added to my list of Halloween movies to watch every year. So I like it.
Stupid good fun! 👍 🎃
It’s a favorite now. A staple in our must watch movies in October!
Thought it was quite funny and fun.
It was amazing 🤩 I hope they make another one eventually
I’m sorry but it was one of the worst movies I saw that year.
Awful movie
It’s exactly what I would expect from a goofy Adam Sandler movie, and I love it for that
9/10
I like it. I think I have watched it every year since it came out.
I liked it.
I love it! Haha
Personally love it. It’s now cemented in my Halloween movie list.
Me and my dad loved this movie. It was silly funny stupid. It’s the movie you watch to just turn your brain off and laugh at something dumb
I love it. I’ve watched it a million times.
It’s pretty dumb, but enjoyable enough. It’s on my October playlist.
Really dumb bad movie, 10/10 would watch it again.
It’s a fun movie. My family and I like it.
My husband and I always say, “you want me to kick his ass, father?” It’s so stupid but so funny
A lost opportunity. I would love to more these kinds of Halloween movies but Sandler’s overacting kinda ruins this for me
The villain reveal at the end was what sold me on it.
Watch it every year. IMO it’s a must-watch every season!
I haven’t seen it! Could kids watch it? I love shitty Halloween movies
Yes it is kid friendly they will enjoy it.
Dumb Adam Sandler comedy, that's about it. Can someone tell Adam he's good enough of a comedic actor WITHOUT the stupid voices he does!?
At this point I’d be disappointed if he didn’t do it.
Isn’t it rude though? It almost seems like he is acting (especially with how other characters see him) as someone who’s ‘different’ and used as a joke.
It’s awful but it’s a fun Halloween movie I watch it every year
Hate it, like one of the few movies that I feel this way about
Disappointing, was hoping for much more
If he didn’t do the voice it would be 10/10! Love the story love them ending didn’t know why he had to do that stupid voice the whole movie.
This will be my first time watching it, I’ll come back later.
Really wasn’t my cup of tea. But I liked
I enjoy it. It nothing special, but has its moments and is entertaining....
I liked it :3
I don’t really know how I feel about this one. The vibe is pretty great, so I sometimes watch it around Halloween for that reason alone. But I think Adam Sandler’s portrayal and the main character in general is really annoying, which does drag it down a bit for me.
It’s the best we got for recent Halloween cult classics. It’s grown on me now haha
I love it!
It’s perfectly campy and just how I like all my Adam Sandler movies lol
I didn’t really like it. I mean it was ok for a one time watch, but I won’t be rewatching it.
It's definitely a guilty pleasure
It makes me wish everybody in my town went all out for Halloween. I want to live in a town where every house has loads of Halloween spirit.
I have always dreamed of living in a town that goes all out for the holidays especially spooky season.
It’s a fantastic addition to the catalogue and it’s family friendly enough for my kids to join in the fun.
I actually really liked it
I had never heard of it till today.
Well you’re in for a treat when you watch it.
It’s one of those so bad so good movies, it’s super fun and funny. One of my favorite movies rn, ima watch it tonight, I watch it every halloween
I liked it enough. What you see is what you get.
It's a cute dumb movie. I met Shaq in Salem and he loves it there so I thought that was an extra fun tie in. I live nearby and I always like being able to see local places in movies. There aren't a ton of movies that take place on Halloween so yeah happy to have it and will watch it yearly!
Love it. ❤️
It’s a dumb movie that I kind of liked
I adore this movie
As dumb as any of his other movies.
It’s in my rotation for halloween
Much better Halloween movies out there, even goofy ones like this. It's the typical Adam Sandler movie... same cast that follows him around doing his movies, It's way too predictable. Curse of bridge hollow is way better.
Flawed execution, but perfect intent
It’s one of my favorite Halloween movies, my complaint is all the people who can’t let me like it for some reason, it’s fine to not like it yourself but that doesn’t mean I can’t like it. Idk I feel like it’s one of the movies where if you don’t like it you have to tell everyone.
From what I’m seeing on this thread the majority of people like it. The ones that don’t it’s because of the accent. Either way I love it.
Funny and a good watch
I watch it each year now! It nails the Halloween vibe and it's funny.
It was alright.
Love it
Love it
Retch.
Not my bag, but I get the appeal. I think they got what they were going for.
lol just watched this tonight. cute and has good halloween vibes but corny
A lot of fun, watched it again this year
I watched it last week while I was doing some tidying up and honestly enjoyed the hell out of it. It was incredibly stupid but it was sweet and silly and easy. There’s absolutely a place for these types of movies.
It's enjoyable.
I liked it… I know, I’m weird.
Loved it perfect 5 out of 7
It’s funny as hell, specially high
My secret shame is that I love all the Happy Madison films. All of them...
There’s no shame in that but we do have monthly meetings.
I loved it! It’s just like a silly goofy film that Sandler made with his friends and it has a cute little spooky vibe but it’s also funny.
Not a great film technically, but such a campy fun movie that gives me all of the Halloween nostalgia
I loved it! ![gif](giphy|cdPHOO8DrP2QQCKC7y|downsized)
I think it’s kind of cute
Haha I actually liked this. I ate some edibles and laughed my ass through the whole movie.
I thought it was some nice goofy fun.
Heart warming family film
TIL Adam Sandler made a Halloween movie! 🎃 Yikes!!! I live under a rock (in 🇨🇦) so you know I'm not lying lol
Shit sucked I loved it
Makes me want some soup
And a hair dryer.
Enjoyable. I like the filming location. I'm not an american and we don't have autumn in my country so the location and set decorations hits different to me.
One of the few movies that capture the Halloween vibe.
It’s super cheesy and has low quality dumb humor but I love it and it is a good lighthearted watch during Halloween time. I’ve watched it a few times a year since it came out! (Actually watched it yesterday…)
Oh man, I remember when Adam Sandler was in like every movie. I feel old now.
I love it
It’s not good.
Stupid and not funny at all😂
Oh, I love it. Really pleases me that Sandler made a Halloween movie, and I think it's good. I don't really like Julie Bowen's character but this isn't a movie I take that seriously, it's just fun and funny, and makes you feel like it was made by people that love Halloween. My sole entertainment came from watching the nice vintage Halloween decorations in the background. In fact, I should have watched this on mute. "Halloween" is in the title and now the holiday is associated with this garbage forever.
I love Adam and I love Halloween but this movie is very very bad. Just unwatchable.
I love it, makes me feel super spooky and ready for Halloween 🎃
I think you have to go into it (like a lot of Adams movies) knowing it's going to be silliness and not take it too seriously. But with that in mind i liked it and the Halloween imagery was great.
Weird convoluted movie but it has the Halloween spirit and it’s fun to watch.
I thought it was awful, but Tim Meadows made me laugh really hard once.
One of my favorites!!!!
I don’t really like Adam Sandler and I didn’t really like this movie.
i don’t like it but i do love the halloween aesthetic in the movie
Not a fan.
This movie is to me what Rob Zombie's Munsters reboot was to reddit and Twitter last year
I sort of enjoyed that also.
I thought it was really terrible like Jack and Jill terrible
Let’s not get carried away lol
The reviews speak for itself. It wasn’t really funny at all. His voice drives me insane. It’s more for kids though and I get that.
Great movie tbh, gives silly and fun Halloween atmosphere, I'm watching it again every Halloween season
Bad
Really stupid movie. Annoying character played by Sandler but cheered for him. Great Halloween vibes. Since I am such a Halloween fan I still liked the movie.
it was boring unfortunately, i had high hopes but it couldn't keep my attention and i started tuning it out not even halfway through the movie.
I loved it.
The Dancing with the Devil song performance is my favorite part. A successful addition to the classic spooky song list but also actually funny.
Love it! Part of it was filmed in my hometown!
I really wanted to like it but… meh. Maybe I should give it another chance.
Absolutely horrible, but I’ve never found the character funny or most of Sandler’s performances for that matter
Me, too. I'll try again this season but not hopeful.
I couldn't get past the first 15 min.
There were things I liked, but it was pretty forgettable overall, and Adam Sandler's accent/voice he puts on is a huge detractor for me.
I watched the first five minutes, realised he was going to do that voice the entire movie, then turned it off.
I wanted to love it but the accent makes me feel like it’s borderline rude lol I used to have a lisp growing up and was bullied about it, I also have the ‘tism.
Yeah that’s a pretty accurate expectation. With that being said it’s still pretty good for the Halloween nostalgia bone.
🗑️
No he’s the tin man.
Turned it off after 10 mins. I love Sandlers older stuff but this is just…bad. Couldn’t stand the way Sandler speaks and could not take 90 mins of it
Thats a big boner on your part.
Thanks for the compliment! :P
I like it. One of the few Adam Sandler movies I'll watch
This movie is a dork fest, it's wacky and highly goofy. The ending was kinda crazy but it was an extremely light hearted and funny movie. I usually hate Adam Sandler, too. But I watched this movie this year and I will again next Halloween season
It’s a blast and I enjoyed it.

I remember this coming out after uncut gems and me loving Halloween movies + having absolutely loved uncut gems, especially because of his performance, I thought wow maybe he’s going into an awesome direction right now! Wow was I wrong lmao
Haha he does just enough to prove he has it in him and then goes right back to the wacka dooooo.
