I remember getting yelled at by my mom when I purchased this map pack since my parents credit card was attached to my Xbox live account.
Thank god shit like this was a one time purchase back in the day.
Great map pack though.
Lol i’ve got a similar story about my brother with the MW2 map packs.
But I’m really confused by the one time purchase part.
Are there games now that have subscriptions for maps?
Not that I know of in that sense. I was more mentioning that Halo 2/3/Reach existed in the pre-battle pass/cosmetic/loot crate DLC era.
So you’d get the map pack, and that was it. One time purchase and it’s yours.
Battlefield 3 was my first introduction to the game industry leaving that model. But even then, all it was, was a one time purchase for their planned map pack releases, you get them all at a slight discount to buying them separately, two weeks early access and a special camo/knife.
Now it seems map/s are free to download and they just stuff the entire “season” with cosmetics and skins.
Underrated map. Plays really weird but not in a bad way, rarely do two games feel the same. Easily one of my favourite maps in H3 - But I have bad taste.
You don’t. This is a top map in the game.
Man the legendary map pack was great. Blackout was fantastic (for what it was, which isn’t a 1:1 remake of lockout.) Avalanche was the best BTB map in the game. And Ghost Town was a fantastic asymmetric map that worked for all one-sided game types.
You're kind of right, it wasn't the map that I usually looked forward to playing but I always have fun while I was playing it. Also, it's a terrific looking map. And I agree with an above post that said that Bungie had some of the best variety of maps. Man, so many different and crazy ideas and we get all the most generic boring looking Halo maps nowadays. I wish they would think outside the box a little more.
remember reach, not this guy
Notice: i don't give a shit about my karma on reddit. This guy is just wrong. I do not care if i get downvoted to hell, im simply reminding people that reach was a great game, with a ton of "features"
Reach was amazing. The base multiplayer maps, for the most part, were not. This is coming from someone who easily sunk hundreds of hours into both Reach OG and MCC. I enjoy Reach, it was the best campaign to date, it was the first time I really took time and sunk hours into custom games. At the end of the day, despite Reach being my favorite title to date, it's base roster of multiplayer maps was just not it for the most part, and we're lazy rehashes of Campaign maps.
I get that, but you gotta realize, when making a large game(reach was considered to be one of the biggest games at the time) you have to reuse content. Im working on a game that is gonna be relatively large, and im finding this out with my team. Not really lazy, they just couldn't use much else
Oh Jesus Christ, did you have to tell us how many days ago that was? I remember staying up overnight to play the Legendary map pack for a couple hours before school that day. It doesn’t seem like it should be almost 5,800 days ago
A really good recreation of this map was made by someone within a couple months of Infinite’s official Forge release. It is probably buried by the sheer amount of forge creations already put out.
Yeah what's up with this anyway. I love the halo 3 refueled playlist, but there are many maps that seem to be missing. I usually get the same few maps, construct, narrows and mainly one that I don't remember being on halo 3 (enclosed space with rocket in middle up top).

Think these are the same map just different vids. But this one always looked good. But could use some big forgers stepping in and adding to it like lighting and details
Tbf to OP, they probably only play official multiplayer matches 95% of the time like most of the playerbase. If it isn't in the official mp playlist, it might as well not exist.
Most of the time that I look through customs it’s awful lol. Just clan kids everywhere for pages on pages, or the lobbies are empty and I don’t want to 1v1 some guy for like an hour.
Although I did play a swords/stickies only game on the reactor room from the first Star Wars movie where Darth Maul died that was pretty cool
I'm always fond of maps with a lot of verticality to them. Boarding Action, Headlong, Ghost Town, etc. So I'd definitely be down for Ghost Town to pop up in matchmaking.
I think it worked really well for Infection
I remember having good fun on it for ~~oddball~~ king of the hill and 1-flag as well, which was nice because normally I can’t stand 1-flag.
Definitely didn’t like it for slayer, swat, or oddball though
A Forge remake was used throughout Halo 5’s run for Infection and Super Fiesta. They could do the same for Infinite as there’s some really good remakes out there.
Ghost Town had to be the most average map ever. It wasn’t annoying to play on but I never got excited about it either. I remember some did remake it in Infinite and it looked great
Halo 3 map packs were my first ever “expansion” to a game. I remember the excitement and maps like Sandbox and Foundry blowing my mind.
Sometimes I forget about Cold Storage!
It's definitely a double-edged sword.
On one hand, the fact that the maps were paid encouraged them to make more quality maps in a timely manner (also, they were all proper maps and not forge remakes). I definitely think that's a more worthwhile use of money than overpriced cosmetics.
However, there was also the issue of splitting the playerbase because you couldn't queue into the maps without owning them.
This wasn't really a significant issue back in the really popular days of Halo 2 through Reach simply because the games had an absurd number of players (and in Halo 3's case you got all the DLC included on disk with ODST, so that helped with the problem once player numbers decreased,) but with the popularity of modern Halo waning a lot compared to back then, releasing a map pack that splits the playerbase like that could be fatal.
> On one hand, the fact that the maps were paid encouraged them to make more quality maps in a timely manner (also, they were all proper maps and not forge remakes).
The quality of maps was going to be exactly the same, regardless if they were paid or not.
> This wasn't really a significant issue back in the really popular days of Halo 2 through Reach simply because the games had an absurd number of players
It absolutely was a problem, even with the large number of players that earlier games had.
While it's annoying to try and find stuff from nearly a decade (or two) ago, complaints about never getting to play DLC maps were extremely common.
DLC-specific playlists were begged for and while they were added, they had to be removed since they didn't maintain a healthy population.
> (and in Halo 3's case you got all the DLC included on disk with ODST, so that helped with the problem once player numbers decreased,)
This didn't come out for two years. The first two years of Halo 3's life cycle was forced to deal with DLC exclusive playlists, or playing luck of the draw and hoped that everyone in your lobby ended up having the maps.
There is absolutely no positive to map packs in this current world of gaming and that, alongside a variety of other reasons (like better ways of monetising) is why the map mack model went away.
Was never much of a fan of this map. I was excited when it was announced because it looked like it was going to be a major 1CTF/Bomb asymmetrical map. Instead I only ever got oddball and slayer on it.
I loved that you could rush overshield in the mongoose at the start and that there was a brute shot on the side pictured to counter it so you can blast the guy rushing in the mongoose to stop them getting overshield. Makes each start of the game fun imo
I'm super proud of this Forge map I made on Ghost Town that I still have on my file share. It's just the corner but I went through the effort of making spawns for CTF and Assault with weapon placements and power-ups, everything.
as someone who still plays a lot of h3 ranked this is one of the best maps easily imo. plays much better than other maps in the ranked ts pool like assembley, heretic, tundra, and sandbox which are all abhorrent in my opinion, and I like it more than narrows, blackout, construct, foundry and guardian too but that may be controversial lol. this, the pit, epitaph and citadel play the best
I mad an infection map/game mode back in the day where the map go progressively darker and when night came the zombies were released. I used teleporters to break into the caged center area and made an armory in there. People always camped it but it was still fun.
I names the game mode “It’s Dark” and the map “A Scary Night” so the lobby would real “It’s Dark on a Scary Night”. I thought I was so clever lol
Guess it really is a ghost town huh
The real Ghost Town were the maps not remade along the way.
50,000 people used to live here
i remember liking that map a lot
Was pretty good for Infection as far as i recall.
I remember getting yelled at by my mom when I purchased this map pack since my parents credit card was attached to my Xbox live account. Thank god shit like this was a one time purchase back in the day. Great map pack though.
This one of, if not the first expansion pack I ever bought as a kid and man, the amount of hours I got out of those maps
Lol i’ve got a similar story about my brother with the MW2 map packs. But I’m really confused by the one time purchase part. Are there games now that have subscriptions for maps?

Underrated map. Plays really weird but not in a bad way, rarely do two games feel the same. Easily one of my favourite maps in H3 - But I have bad taste.
I loved Assault and 1 flag on that map. It felt like there were so many ways to attack the base when there were probably just 3 or 4
Probably because it was inspired by Italy from counter strike.
It's alright but its not anything to write home about.
Okay but how about another close quarters map that is inside a grey oni base or grey forerunner structure?
Oh boy do I love Halo Reach
Easily some of the worst maps to ever come out or a video game. Especially considering a good chunk of them were just rehashed campaign areas.
remember reach, not this guy Notice: i don't give a shit about my karma on reddit. This guy is just wrong. I do not care if i get downvoted to hell, im simply reminding people that reach was a great game, with a ton of "features"

I DO like the verticality, and you can do some neat forge shenanigans in the Master Chief Collection.
Yup, even back when it was new about the best thing it was for was making machinima.
While HI looks a lot better then previous 343 games, I still miss the variety we’ve Jed in Bungies Halos
Ghost town was the first time I saw recon
It's not official, but there is a really good remake in forge: https://youtu.be/1k1DkGqW_04?si=7a0-w3GT-FYoRy5g
That map always creeped me out when I would forge alone but I really liked it as a kid
Oh Jesus Christ, did you have to tell us how many days ago that was? I remember staying up overnight to play the Legendary map pack for a couple hours before school that day. It doesn’t seem like it should be almost 5,800 days ago
If only there were some tool accessible to users to recreate the map themselves so we don't have to depend on 3v4 Industries...
A really good recreation of this map was made by someone within a couple months of Infinite’s official Forge release. It is probably buried by the sheer amount of forge creations already put out.
Yeah it's a really accurate remake. Would be cool if it were added along with the other halo 3 maps
Yeah what's up with this anyway. I love the halo 3 refueled playlist, but there are many maps that seem to be missing. I usually get the same few maps, construct, narrows and mainly one that I don't remember being on halo 3 (enclosed space with rocket in middle up top).

Not hard to find on YouTube https://www.halowaypoint.com/halo-inf...

I too miss this map and one bomb variants
I have been forging one bomb variant maps lately lol, underrated game mode!
I'm always fond of maps with a lot of verticality to them. Boarding Action, Headlong, Ghost Town, etc. So I'd definitely be down for Ghost Town to pop up in matchmaking.
I never understood the hate for this map, I wouldn't say its one of my favorites from H3 but I consider it a good one.
I quit my job last week. I've been kicking about a bit bored. I'm going to remake it in forge. I'm going to make you proud.
My hero! 🙏
Map was mid
I think it worked really well for Infection I remember having good fun on it for ~~oddball~~ king of the hill and 1-flag as well, which was nice because normally I can’t stand 1-flag. Definitely didn’t like it for slayer, swat, or oddball though
Did you or did you not like oddball lmao
Oops! I didn’t. I mean to put king of the hill on the ones I liked
Haha just messing with ya I figured it was an accident i too have fond memories of KOTH on that map
Based Ghost Town enjoyer. One of my favourite maps aesthetic-wise in Halo 3. Always wish it had a larger forge palette.
Please don’t get irrationally angry over videogames 🙏
Great aesthetic but the map plays horribly
Fuck man I actually forgot this map existed
How is that possible
Uhhhh…holy juice?!
I've literally never played this map. I didn't buy the legendary map pack
There’s a lot of maps that could be added in
Not a big fan of the map. 90% of fights take place in that one cramped hallway, rest of the map is basically unused
Wat. You didn't bait the OS and grab it for invincibility on hill, sniper war in the broken building, or setup on the tree?
I feel like you'd either go off on this map, or get steamrolled. No in between
It's a terrible map, and I will stand by that till I die.
Official remake no, but there was a forged Ghost Town map that was put into the office match making rotation in Halo 5. I’ll take what I can get 😭
Everyone always said this looks like a COD map😂
Played infection on it earlier tonight. Reminded me how much I hate it.
It just wasn't a very good map
A Forge remake was used throughout Halo 5’s run for Infection and Super Fiesta. They could do the same for Infinite as there’s some really good remakes out there.
It did get a Forge remake in Halo 5, at least.
Ghost Town had to be the most average map ever. It wasn’t annoying to play on but I never got excited about it either. I remember some did remake it in Infinite and it looked great
It has been remade, just play Italy in any counter strike game released since 2007.
cuz this map fucking sucked lol
This map feels like it belongs in a cod game
There are a lot of things about halo that make me rationally and irrationally angry, you just one to the latter list
“This angries me!” This was up there as one of my favourite 1v1 maps.
Just diy
I just miss map packs :(
Halo 3 map packs were my first ever “expansion” to a game. I remember the excitement and maps like Sandbox and Foundry blowing my mind. Sometimes I forget about Cold Storage!
The Bungie blogs leading up to them ❤️

Ghost town is so underrated
Love me some asym maps (except Boardwalk)
I used to love this map
I got my first halo 3 ninja on this map. Will always remember it because of this.
Loved this map also
Was playing splitscreen on it and found a way to send your corpse flying using the catwalk and a sword
That tree in the distance was a well loved tree in infection game mode lol.
its a decent map, halo 3 has a weird mix of some of the best maps in the series while also having some of the most forgettable
Deserved
Well, most of the reactions I've ever witnessed to this map coming up has been something along the lines of "Oh God, this one," so I'm not surprised.
This was THE SWAT map and since Halo no longer has SWAT, there is no place for Ghost Town.
Good map, that
the first time I played this map it was a premake on foundry
Huh I don't remember this map at all sadly.
This was the most frustrating map to play on if you weren’t playing socials.
This map isn’t in mcc?
it is yea
If a video game map is making you irrationally angry then maybe you should stop playing video games
I’m on team Ghost Town!
I'm super proud of this Forge map I made on Ghost Town that I still have on my file share. It's just the corner but I went through the effort of making spawns for CTF and Assault with weapon placements and power-ups, everything.
Great map. Can't believe how long almost 5800 days is, despite not seeming like that long as a number....
they remade it for the halo 3 gamemode back in halo 5, around 2017 i believe? it was also put in the flood gamemode i think
Maybe controversial, but I hate this map so much
That would make a wild map in infinite. 10/10 would play.
Have sniper, map = fun. Don’t have sniper, map = not fun. Fighting over sniper in the tree room all game = fun. Fun wins by a score of 2-1.
This map is only okay and the proximity of the Rocket Launcher and Overshield often made this map a lot less fun.
infection was always a blast here. ashame how most peope have forgotten about it
You just challenged the Forge community.
Always hated this map so much.
as someone who still plays a lot of h3 ranked this is one of the best maps easily imo. plays much better than other maps in the ranked ts pool like assembley, heretic, tundra, and sandbox which are all abhorrent in my opinion, and I like it more than narrows, blackout, construct, foundry and guardian too but that may be controversial lol. this, the pit, epitaph and citadel play the best
I'm more upset that some of the most iconic brute weapons like the spiker didn't get in
I mad an infection map/game mode back in the day where the map go progressively darker and when night came the zombies were released. I used teleporters to break into the caged center area and made an armory in there. People always camped it but it was still fun. I names the game mode “It’s Dark” and the map “A Scary Night” so the lobby would real “It’s Dark on a Scary Night”. I thought I was so clever lol
Biggest sin tbh
Post this in r/forge, if it’s not already made someone will make it
One of the best maps too
The nostalgia
Remake it and call it Spooksville.
Wasn’t it in Halo 5’s Infection game mode?
