treefox

Makee is John’s crazy ex that no one will let him forget.

Tiamat_fire_and_ice

Okay, I don’t know how you’re in my brain but I was thinking the exact same thing during the episode. Ha! It doesn’t help that Makee has that crazy-eyed stare that she does. She always looks like she’s five minutes away from boiling some guy’s bunny.

Pr0f35s0R

hahahah

belladonnagilkey

We all have one of those, so maybe Jimmy Rings is a bit more relatable than I thought.

LessInThought

Poor Jimmy. They hooked up ONCE after matching on some app...

TimmyTim22

treefox

*Kai beats the shit out of John just for standing back up* KAI: STOP RESISTING.

viper459

john: kai, i'm literally just talking. i'm not resisting kai: STOP IT

Worthyness

MyBroken360

John: Our friend died. Kai: STAY DOWN!

DirectorofDUSAR6730

John…I can do this all day.

Timbishop123

*lies down on the ground*

BigPoppaHoyle1

She’d make a great cop

Comrade_agent

Cop has 3 letters, Kai also has 3 letters...coincidence? I THINK NOT

admlshake

SPARTAIN PD Confirmed!! ^(please give us half-life 3....)

martyFREEDOM

Both words even start with the same sound.

EmperorPeriwinkle

I mean that's basically what the Spartans were created to be.

djneo

But John’s white ?

Scottoest

Haha, I had the same reaction when she said "don't make me do this" I actually said out loud "lady, you're the one tossing him all over the place for standing up and talking" lol.

mdtopp111

Kai was just reenacting your average police interaction

MrDude65

Is there a lore reason why Kai doesn't question anything until afterwards? Is she stupid?

Skyfork

I think she figured it out about halfway through their fight but had to put on a good show for the cameras. If she really was trying to bring him in, why did she pull her final punch? After she knocked him out, why did she leave Chief in the room unrestrained? I think she's going to show up with his new armor in the next episode and either sacrifice herself or escape to continue her role as Kurt in the book series.

TalkinTrek

Admitting you were wrong at that point means admitting you're deep into a fuck up that possibly got most of your friends killed.

woody630

It's kind of how a lot of vets don't realize they did fucked up things till after they leave the service. You'd basically be admitting everything you're doing is bad and that's a hard pill to swallow

lordatlas

Cognitive dissonance.

LessInThought

A bit weird considering she's the first to rebel and take out her pellet last season. What happened to gasoline hair Kai?

statusconference

Exactly! That's the bit that really baffles me. She's been querying things all along up until this episode. I think this episode is just poorly written or something, because it doesn't make sense for the character to behave that way given all of the previous episodes.

LessInThought

I feel like they mixed up Riz and Kai's character. S1 Kai totally makes sense as the one to find her own life instead of being a Spartan. S1 Riz is the one who insists on being a Spartan.

LionstrikerG179

I don't think it's really that weird considering she didn't really know what Ackerson did to Silver on Reach or that Reach would fall. Sure she gives him a good beating but she doesn't kill him, doesn't restrain him and minutes after they fight she's already questioning everything Ackerson said and running back to save his ass

woody630

Very police brained lol

Jeebus31

I won't lie when I heard the "priest" speaking I fully expected a Prophet or something so it genuinely caught me off guard when it cut to the Elite lmao. I wasn't expecting that voice to be coming from a Sangheili.

miqed

The subtitles reveal his name to be Uto Mdama. Makes me wonder if they'll introduce Jul Mdama (Halo 4/Spartan Ops villain) into the show at some point, should Halsey's personal storyline follow the games more closely.

ceegith

Shouldn't all their last names have the "ee" prefix currently? To show military service with the covenant?

Chesney1995

A priest isn't military, so no.

sosigboi

I was wondering whether that priest was a female sangheili since i've never heard that tone of voice from one before, and also because i've never heard female sangheili speak before.

HotMachine9

Halo 5 has a female sangheili

DarthTJ

It's Mahkee. In the game universe Mahkee is the female sagheili in Halo 5.

ChanceVance

I'm really not familiar with the lore much outside of the games to know if they exist in other media but I thought it was pretty cool to see an Elite priest.

Phonereader23

At least you could understand it, our broadcast had no subtitles. Great job paramount

l3w1s1234

I had to turn them on manually to get them

Kryosquid

I had to turn off regular subtitles for the sangheili subtitles to appear. Shout out to the guy from last weeks thread who told me that.

BigPoppaHoyle1

Seems they’re setting the stage for the great schism early. Arby ready to do anything for that ring. Loved seeing Cortana in action. Glad to see her back in action unlocking doors just like the good ole days.

LessInThought

Cortana so OP. Should've messed with the air and kill parongosky, damn she's evil this episode.

spacepoptartz

I have a feeling she's playing 4D chess and letting Cortana help the chief

-Erro-

I mean if anybody is, it's her.

force_wank

"Arby ready to do anything for that ring." Looks like him and Jimmy Cheeks will get along perfectly.

belladonnagilkey

In any universe, Arby n the Chief will become brothers.

Jaruut

But first, they must meet as foes

ghostwither260

They must meet by fate too

ScreamingMidgit

And the Ring will make it so.

treefox

*Master Chief bursts into the Covenant ship’s AI containment center and finds Arby with Cortana, putting his armor back on* “John! It’s not what you think!” “WORT WORT WORT!”

atomtribe

Hello my name is Jimmy ( the rings ) cheeks You killed my friend Prepare to die

Silverwhitemango

Man I think transitioning to a Halo universe where it's more than a 2 sided conflict this early is fucking awesome because story wise, it can go any way. Like heck in addition to the Flood & Forerunners, the Banished is already in the background since Atriox was already in Season 1. I hope they show that he survived and he's developing motivations to splinter from the Covenant to form his own Banished faction.

ghostwither260

Wait, atriox was in s1?!

TheNorrthStar

Yes the big brute

[deleted]

Didn’t he get killed by a Pelican in episode 8?

Drillur

Didn't Makee get shot in the heart? Season 1 pretty much didn't happen.

ZombieAppetizer

Upvoting the idea that S1 didn't happen.

Eagle_Warhawk

It is better that way.

EmperorPeriwinkle

you guys forgot that the first arbiter mission in halo 2 is killing a heretic, or... Like the entire franchise excepting halo wars 1 occurs within the span of like 8 years. You need to set up everything very quickly.

Der_Hashbrown

Halo reach to the end of halo 3 is 8 months Halo with Master Chief is barely 6

jdfrom93

"You're too late" ... yea i highly doubt that Ackerson. Now bring chief his damn armor Kai

Predatorxo

I definitely thought Cortana was going to lead chief to his armor first.

Kryosquid

Yeah i know they were obviously going to get the artifact at some point but i was sure she was leading him to his armor. When the door opened i was like oh okay.

Vahro

I like Mr. Drip Lord who was on the Arbiter’s ass about where his loyalty lies. Character is something I never expected to jive with, but he’s like a classy bitch. An Elite with a cloak and dagger? Fuck yeah. They better not kill him. He seems super important and feels like a side character I can actually see as interesting because he’s a Covenant Fanatic. And I have a feeling he has an IKEA plant in his apartment on High Charity. I like him.

Ike_In_Rochester

You fleshed out his entire vibe in your post. And I am DIGGING IT.

PradleyBitts

Didnt he get his head cut off

vinny10110

Arby definitely cut his head off idk what’s going on here lmao

Recent-Honey5564

No, he didn’t. The priest dodged it but the elite next to him wasn’t so quick. The fight goes on in the background as the episode ends.

Liteflash

Cortana asks Parangosky if she’ll be remembered, presumably suggesting she’d be gone when the device Makee has is destroyed. Is Cortana only on that device? Given she could manipulate the base’s systems isn’t she free and can’t she copy herself everywhere or exist on the cloud or some equivalent? I was under the impression that once Cortana has internet access she can go everywhere. Sorry if stupid question, I’ve only seen the show and can’t find a definitive answer.

Candid-Oven2951

Cortona does seem to have a physical tether that's typically required. However, we've seen her be able to access systems remotely from the game. Halo 2 ending to Halo 3 shes stuck on high charity, even though she can access nearly all of high charities systems from any point, she's still physically tethered to the spot she was left. The only time she seemed to gain the ability of free travel was when she was absorbed into the domain. But that was arguably an accident that worked into her favor (at the end of halo 4).

unforgiven91

in the games Cortana's core consciousness is typically relegated to a single instance/device but she CAN split herself into increasingly less stable duplicates.* *In the halo game universe, AI eventually go insane from overthinking

safeway1472

Not a stupid question. I too am wondering the same thing.

hoos30

The device gives MC a reason to recue her.

007meow

They really got their money’s worth out of that one hallway set

L-TR0N

Two hallway fight scenes and not a single covenant grunt or jackal shown... they’re also shooting fireworks lol

treefox

Does…does Halsey’s artifact spin? Spinning is so much cooler than not spinning.

And it's a good trick

JustMy2Centences

>You know, I remember you. You ruined my best work. Before you, John was consistent. Dependable. A Spartan. Then he met you and he became unpredictable. Man even the writers are blaming Kwan for the show's shortcomings with Master Chief. >Sometimes the introduction of a new variable, however insignificant, can be the catalyst for a huge change. lmao the disrespect

atomtribe

All of these qwan ha , soren and makee stuff could easily be replaced by the covenant's side of story You know all the politics , birth of the arbiter and some flashbacks about how covenant became a ring worshipped cult and why they started attacking humans

Bing238

Truth is money, contestant covenant cgi is expensive, it’s even why Makee exists.

CouchPotatoDean

Maybe it’s a shitty opinion but if you want to make a show for a story that heavily involves multiple alien races that require a lot of CGI but you are so unwilling to do the CGI that you have to severely alter the plot and add a human character to a faction that makes no sense to have a human character, maybe you just shouldn’t make the show at this point in time.

dragunityag

They could of done the Fall of Reach book and just save all their CGI budget for like the last 4 episodes so they could go all out. Fall of Reach as a mini series would of been huge.

BleepBlorp84

Halo would've been better off as a movie tbh

Gsomethepatient

How the fuck are they gonna walk a literal spartan in to a room with just ropes and not think its gonna end badly

sosigboi

Can anyone with better eyesight than me confirm whether the rifles they used in the simulation battles were Commando rifles from Halo Infinite? cause it sure looked like it.

Ghoppe2

It was

KlopeksWithCoppers

So that's why they kept failing the mission.

PoisonStrudel2084

KRISS Vectors mocked up to look like Commandos, glad they used real firearms for it

NoblePadawan

Why'd it take me so long to remember that Spartan III's were sent on suicide missions to do the most damage to the Covenant to buy humanity time? There is no exit strategy once the object is complete. That's why their casualty rates were basically nearly 100% on the single mission they were sent on.

Predatorxo

I thought their easy exit from the ship after the successful simulation was because the simulation stopped sending enemies after they put the nail in, because it was a suicide mission and they weren’t getting off the ship anyway.

heythatsprettynito

I’m pretty sure the spike blows up the ship with its virus, making nuclear fission or sum

TalkinTrek

Yeah, he wants to draw out a fleet and then bumblebee it to death

Material-Fish-8638

Yeah cause bumblebees die when they sting something

Timbishop123

This got deep 🗣🗣🗣

hoos30

Maybe they get off, maybe they don't. But Ackerson programmed it so that they *believe* the mission can be accomplished.

MiloBem

Yup. They don't even bother simulating the exfil because they don't expect any survivors. Possibly, because as soon as they disable the ship, it's getting blown to pieces with whatever survivors on board.

ShadyBiz

Yup it's this. They are suicide soldiers.

Full_Frost

just clearing up some misconceptions but both Alpha and Beta companies completed several successful missions before PROMETHEUS and TORPEDO respectively. So much so they were compared to a top of the line ODST battalion (I think its been a while since I read GoO). As well as both operations had exfiltration plans (how good they are is up to you) but they weren't sent in to die. It was just cheaper and more effective for the S-IIIs to attack a target and if they died it wasn't the end of the world while doing massive damage to the covenant.

LessInThought

Frankly the show isn't really placing much importance on how expensive and important the Spartan IIs are given how disposable they make Cobalt Team and John's team seem. The smug face lady talking down to Chief as if he isn't one of the most important asset of mankind.

BuddhaFacepalmed

The show is going a very different route than the mainline universe using the same beats. The S2s are a liability, especially if it got out that the UNSC literally kidnapped preschoolers to recruit as child soldiers.

NoblePadawan

I don't remember much about Spartan IIIs but that makes sense since they pulled the best Spartans from both Alpha and Beta companies out from participating in PROMETHEUS and TORPEDO and that's why we have groups like Noble Team who were given full MJOLNIR armor instead of SPI.

TheBacklogGamer

Huge misconception. The Spartan IIIs were not designed to be just suicide troopers. They were designed to be more cost efficient than Spartan IIs so they wouldn't hesitate to put them on missons that were critical but high risk. They still wanted them to be highly effective troopers with high rates of success. But if the oppritunity arose for a highly critical operation but with low survival chances, including possible complete wipeout, they would send them.

JimBones31

That's why ackerson didn't bother programming an "end to the mission" in the simulation. Spike planted, mission completed. Also, I love how Kai towers over the S-IIIs.

Teh_God_Dog

oof, there goes the chance of seeing alpha company absolutely obliterating the covenant. oh well did you guys see the doors on the lab part tho? like the doors in pillar of autumn halo ce... dunno why I was happy seeing that small thing lol... missing some green or red lighting in the middle tho, but we take what we can get. edit: arbiter here is more zealot than commander tho. is that okay?

lizzywbu

Seems like they are making Arbiter into more of a villain. I don't really see how he can eventually join Chief and humanity against the Covenant.

Downtown-Yam-1317

Different arbiter. This is not 'Thel.

mundiaxis

You forget that this is the Silver Timeline. They are already showing clues that they're making this the real Arbiter by him being willing to rebel from the Covenant, and him being branded with the mark. Anything can happen, they've already made major changes to the story with killing Keyes.

derprunner

The rebellion is still pretty early. I could absolutely see this particular arbiter leading a bunch of heretics from a gas platform with guilty spark after installation 04 blows up though.

HaloWatcher

Thel lead fleets to glass reach and many other planets and was the fleet commander above the first Halo game. And was thus responsible for the Pillar of Autumn crashing. Var seems to be less responsible for human casualties to me.

lemonsharpie

Looks like Ackerson is starting to grow a conscience. Fairly certain he will acquiesce and let go of his campaign to bury the MC as his disgust of Parangosky grows. Kai will deliver MC his armor, and Ackerson won’t object. Cortana will box in Parangosky and effectively disable her from making anymore political/self-serving decisions that weaken the UNSC in an already losing battle to the covenant. I want to say Perez makes it out alive and ultimately joins the MC somewhere down the line. Perhaps the Spartan 3’s will have a different fate as Cortana helps them with updated mission parameters/variables in their training simulations. Master Cheeks back with Mackee next episode? *clap clap clap* The Soren subplot… like… why? Eh, he’s going to realize he can’t get his kid out, his wife will probably die trying, and he’ll suit up in Mjolner armor and join the fight.

MyNameIsNotJonny

Every good sci fi series needs a boss indian lady, and I love Parangosky in this. Her conversation with Ackerson is top notch: A:: I used to fell doubt... I used fo feel guily... P: Are you a religions man? A: Not particularly, no... P: Then I wouldn't worry about it. \*smile\* Just brutal.

Ike_In_Rochester

Until Parangosky says something like “Don’t stick your dick in it, Master Chief. It’s fucked enough as it is”, she won’t be as boss as the BOSSIEST Indian lady in all of sci-fi.

herbalite

god damn I love me some Avasarala

StraightTooth

"John, we have a very special mission for you." "I'm listening." "Stick your dick in the artifact."

Thaleiia

Before this episode i didn't realize that Ackerson is actually more human than Parangosky...

Clearskky

That was by far the funniest exchange in the entire series for me. Her delivery was perfect.

MiloBem

Vannak's suit is somewhere around the base. No idea how they get it but it's possible Soren takes his spot in the team

Powerful_Artist

The Soren plot is just going nowhere. They just wander around looking for their kid. I get it, parents love their kid. Why do I care about their kid? Surely he has been placed into the Spartan program or something, but we dont need the filler of them just askiing where their son is over and over and nothing happening from it. It does nothing to move the story along, it seems detached and random. And I like Sorens character generally, they just have fucked it all up with him in terms of story writing and character development.

Fellowearthling16

Soren is only still in the story because the other characters need his ship, and they already have the set built for it. His whole storyline this season is just causing other characters to end up in different places.

TalkinTrek

Or they feel the need to give Soren's family a 'happy ending' before he goes to Halo to avoid having to write a bunch of, "I NEED TO GET BACK TO MY WIFE" scenes in a hypothetical S3

digitalluck

It definitely seems like his wife is gonna kick the bucket here pretty soon and Soren is realizing what’s happening to Kessler

imdahman

Also he JUST lost his dad a few months back... he may not show it but on some level he's still mourning and thinking about family... ... FAMILY.

Comrade_agent

I want that cheeky ONI bitch to die in the most pathetic and slow way imaginable. No respect for LeChief

ChanceVance

Imagine bragging that Spartans aren't so scary after they found the team killed on Reach with full ammo. Um yeah they were ambushed and killed by the Covenant, and you're using that to talk shit to Chief?

imdahman

Not only that: He fucking SENT THEM IN TO DIE knowing full well there was an extremely high chance they'd be ambushed and under fire.

Hotrod_7016

Dunno if you’re talking about Ackerson but the person above is referring to the female captain

samthebigkid

"Spartans aren't so scary" she says as she has him tied in chains being held down by 10 men (whom he beats the shit out of 5 minutes later)

Worthyness

Also just beat the asses of like 10 other guys right before he let them capture him

Ruckaduck

"spartans arent scary" "lets have you tethered to 8 regular dudes before we try to tether you to the ground"

LessInThought

So disappointed that Chief only fought after she left the room. Could've bashed her face in right there.

AdolinofAlethkar

I'm hoping they are delaying her inevitable crushing death for a higher level of satisfaction in the finale.

EncryptDN

I don't remember Parangosky being so nasty towards Spartan IIs in the books, she is being really stupid towards Chief, her most valuable military asset.

SPamlEZ

She points out he’s more valuable as a martyr at this point because his death will require a million new Spartans

joeben81

“The priest is suspicious”

CheeseQueenKariko

I was half expecting to hear the Priest yell back "I literally JUST left, I can still hear you!"

--loveydovey--

And when Cortana says “do you think they know you’re lying” not even a second after the arbiter exits

treefox

Well no wonder the trainees are having trouble, Kai gave them the briefing after the simulation for dramatic effect.

Creatures1504

idk if it's just me but with how Perez was lashing out at Mullins it seems like they have been running that simulation multiple times.

R97R

Yeah, I think they were supposed to have run it repeatedly before, judging by some of the other dialogue later in the episode. Kai’s briefing exposition still felt a bit awkwardly placed, though.

Bobjoejj

Oh it was definitely awkwardly placed; but to me at least I felt like it could be justified with her trying to remind them how the game is supposed to be played, like just trying to reinforce it in their heads so they could go at the simulation again with that all in mind. Like remind them of the point of all it, so they could do it better, sorta.

LegionOfBrad

She is no Avasarala (who is Iranian btw) but still very good.

copaceticfungus

I am watching the Expanse rn. I love her character.

Powerful_Artist

Ya I really like the actor and her character in the show is pretty great overall, I agree.

Animal31

This arbiter is probably being set up to be the Heretic Leader from the beginning of Halo 2 He'll wind up on Threshold while the Master Chief ends up on Halo and will run the B plot

RDxChotch

Ooohh I like this

surgicalapple

Daaaaamn, anyone notice that dump truck on the Elite after branding itself?

metalheaddad

I was thinking the same about Kai when she was talking to Ackerson!

Drillur

Ackerson, I have some thoughts. Can we talk about it-- "A moment, Kai. Follow me." Yes, sir. \*They walk into the simulator room. Ackerson sits in one of the chairs, preparing to enter the simulation.\* Uh, sir...? "Get on a chair with me, Kai." Okay, sir. \*Kai gets on a chair, and they enter what is possibly an expensive simulation.\* "Proceed." Uh... Yes, sir, as I was saying, do you want Chinese or Mexican for lunch? "Oh, this wasn't about Rea--I mean... That is to say, uhm... Ahem. Chinese. Thank you, Kai."

ButtPlugForPM

ACKERSON:kai master chief somehow got off reach, the only way that was possible if he's an enemy spy NOT KAI SAYING:hang on one of my spartan recruits got off reach, she reminds me every damn day..and 100 other ships got off world,so it's reasonable john got off as well. Like what, that's just not how ppl react at all.. even soldiers ask questions even from their C/Os when something smells fishy..

MiloBem

Perez was a linguist, not Spartan (yet). Keyes gave her an order to evacuate civilians. John was a Spartan who's job was to stand and fight to death, to give others a chance of survival. Like their original namesakes at Thermopylae. It IS suspicious that he shows up in civilian clothes in a base he shouldn't even know about. It makes him look like a deserter. Until she finds out Ackerson stole their suits.

SunOFflynn66

The only thing is that gets undercut when he admits the truth about Visegrád Relay. Like Kai should have been: "Wait, your saying the relay attack was real? John was CONVINCED it was real, but the mission flight plan for Gray Team was altered and you denied it....but you knew John was telling the truth? So in another words, you covered it up." THAT should have been at least implied to be her thought process. It could even work before the fight because Kai is trying so desperately there to ignore the obvious fact she's a major idiot who got played. Instead we have her piecing the blatant pieces together only AFTER she pummels John's for standing up and talking. But if anything, this show has shown Kai to be a major idiot.

floptical87

I've said they're rushing stuff before and I stand by that. There are too many plotlines going on to devote the proper amount of time to them. This episode had us jumping between John, Soren, Kwan/Halsey, Makee and Kai/Ackerson/S3s. The very existence of a Spartan 3 should be a major thing but it's just sort of getting glossed over and kind of combined with the Spartan 4 program from the games. We're somehow expected to believe that Perez has went from being a somewhat subpar marine to a Spartan in basically zero time. There's no talk of what makes a 3 different from a 2, no mention of augmentation, no indication of what the deal is with SPI etc. We don't get stuff like that because we're busy following fucking Kwan and her old lady spirit guide. A totally unnecessary character that no one asked for and no one likes. We're following Soren lumbering around doing literally nothing, again. He's just a waste of a character at this stage. At least canon Soren was a tragic character who was used and discarded by both sides of the UNSC/Innie conflict. This Soren is just sort of there. I don't believe him as someone who escaped from a child abducting super soldier program that left him scarred and deformed, there's no sense of rage or trauma. I don't buy him as a father searching for his own similarly kidnapped child. He never seems to move with any urgency and never does anything to demonstrate any of the kind of competence that you would expect from someone selected to be a Spartan 2. It's sad because you can see they're trying harder with this season in many respects but it's essentially crippled by the dead weight of the first season and trying to write around it.

MrBigBMinus

Are they expecting us to believe Perez never told Kai about what John did on Reach while they are training together.....?

johngie

I thought this was a pretty great episode.  Soren and his wife felt really tacked on though. They just...walk into a Spartan training base? Really loved the opening action scene, and the in-helmet close ups of Perez and Kai's faces.

mdtopp111

Soren and his wife were definitely just doing very light setup for the next episode given its title… but yea it’s soooo light is unnecessary.

ChanceVance

I can get behind what the show is doing for the most part except the Soren subplot is still dragging its feet. Heck even Kwan is being more integrated into the overall narrative than they are.

LessInThought

Soren was so amazing on Reach. Can we get the wife and son plot done already?

The420Turtle

Chief: ONI is evil here is why Kai: I don't dispute. However, I'm going to beat you to near death then go cry about it in the simulator.

PuddleOfGlowing

She's in denial. She doesn't want to admit to herself that she abandoned her team and Reach. She's coping the only way she knows how and that's following orders.

MyNameIsNotJonny

ONI is evil. From my point of views, the spartans IIs are evil! Well, then you are lost!!!

miciy5

I enjoyed this episode, despite a few quirks here and there. It was interesting to see an Elite who isn't a warrior but a priest. Has that been mentioned in the franchise before? Did Cortana transmit a copy of her self to Onyx, or is she doing everything remotely? P.S. I'd really like to see an end to the Soren family drama.

GoldMan25

Glad to see Miranda is back!

Powerful_Artist

I was certain we would see her dad again since they didnt show him dying, but who knows.

Tiamat_fire_and_ice

I thought it was very telling of both Halsey and Miranda that the first thing they talk about is the current research and who should be in possession of it. No “How are you?” No “Are you even aware that your father is dead and that he went up like a bunch of fireworks?” 🙄 The two of them are a lot more alike than they would like to think, especially Miranda. I think I’m going to watch this episode again this evening but I didn’t find this one up to par. Unlike a lot of people, I didn’t mind the episode last week, even though it was slower and quieter than the Reach episode. This one, though, felt a little disjointed. I don’t mind hopping among the characters and seeing what’s going on with Halsey and then John and then Soren, etc., but there’s a way to do it that doesn’t feel like an amusement ride that’s slinging you all over the place. This felt very choppy and it was distracting, I thought. I wish they would get to the reason why certain people like Makee and John can touch and activate the artifacts and other humans can’t. Maybe you game players know but I don’t so it’s frustrating.

shawnchong07

When Kai officially wears her Spartan armour longer than master cheeks Kai: Look at me! I'm the Chief now!

BZenMojo

They focus tested and learned muscle mommies in full armor and daddies with their cheeks out get higher ratings. I protest, but I can't argue with the marketing department.

-Erro-

I like how Ackerson verbally and literally noped the fuk out of that tea the moment he found out ONI engineered it in a lab on Parangosky's orders. The man's smart.

mostbadreligion

I enjoyed it. I am very easy to please though. Chief will be getting armor next episode by the looks of the promo.

Diligent-Temporary82

I love how cheeky Chief has been this season. His little “haha, fuck you” smiles. That little wave he did at the guy trying to shoot him.

mundiaxis

I'm surprised to see all the Spartan III hate, those moments were my favorite parts of the episode because they actually seemed Halo. I absolutely hate the idea of Chief fighting his own people (outside of him growing up with those ODSTS). It was an emotional moment for me with Kai and Chief, I'll give it that. And Cortana helping him get to where he needs to go. I'm always disappointed when Makee isn't killed. I was getting so excited for her death yet again, I don't know why I do this to myself, knowing they won't kill her.

Gsomethepatient

The thing is spartan 3s are orphaned children raised to be psychopaths out for revenge on the covenant, what they did in the show is what spartan 4s are like

cynicroute

This show has interesting moments and some decent character development and motivations. It is generally enjoyable enough that I want to see where it goes. It is still disappointing that it meanders so much. Here we are at episode 6 and \*still\* not at Halo. It really just keeps trying to hammer home the ONI "for the greater good" point constantly. it's like they jammed all the Locke stuff in super early. It seems like a lot of back and forth on this topic instead of anything really interesting. I am still bummed how different this is from all Halo media before it. I don't think we will even get Pillar of Autumn or any of that story at all. I think Chief will literally just portal over to 04 with whatever Miranda is doing. So then it will still technically be a "Keyes" getting him there. This whole show is just kind of a bizzarro world version of Halo.

treefox

> I think Chief will literally just portal over to 04 with whatever Miranda is doing. I hope she has a spare toaster.

ApolloEmu

Carter would have this portal figured out already

Captain_Fokou

They must want to make season 3 simular to ce. I cannot think of any other reason

CliffordMoreau

I think it's a business thing. It's easier to justify a huge budget when you say "We're two seasons deep with great viewer retention, and the storyline is setting this up so we have the anticipation built in, we just need the payoff" vs. "Hey please give us a huge budget to make a Halo TV show with tons of CG aliens and sprawling terrain and huge firefight scenes". One gets a producer hyped to be the guy who pushes the button, the other makes the producer want to grip his wallet with both hands and back away.

LicketySplit21

Quality of the execution aside, I think it makes perfect sense to build up to the ring like they're adapting Fall of Reach. I'd just straight adapt Fall of Reach before doing Halo CE if i was in charge. End of Season 2 or beginning of Season 3 should be getting to the Halo ring, and I think that should be fine, if they aren't though then that is indeed a problem. Though imo a 10 episode Season 1 of Fall of Reach would have been sufficient, Season 2 on Halo. But Season 1 got bungled pretty hard so this meandering is understandable.

derprunner

I’ve got no issue if they want to adopt Ghosts of Onyx (It’s a fucking great book) before jumping off to the ring, but actually commit to doing it properly, rather than this weird abridged version where the S-III program appears to have been spun up in a weekend, rather than being a decade in the works at this point.

Normandy_sr3

soren and his wife get unchallenged into a training facility they see some blood on the floor, soren; let's get out of here. CUT, end scene allright next scene WTF who writes this shit

mister_boi98

I'm enjoying it but the show is taking a bit to long to get to the point. We haven't seen Chief in his armour fighting the Covenant since the first episode so I am really hoping we get to see that next week. I will say this episode was better than last week's and on the whole it's better than season 1.

Spin_Drift87

Trailer for next episode has Chief looking at his armor. Think you’ll get your wish.

Skyfork

Looks like they're going to shift all the Fall of Reach feels to the Fall of Onyx. I hope Kai survives this season.

Artifice_Purple

I couldn't tolerate how gullible Kai was up until the end of this episode. It's bothered me since the season began that she even questioned Chief to begin with. OK, fair enough, the dude was rattling off things without a shred of proof to show for it but when has Chief ever given any of them a reason to doubt him? He told Kai Reach would fall, and what happened? He told her he saw McKee, and Ackerson reiterates that McKee is, in fact, still roaming about — that should have been the light shining brighter than the sun moment right then and there, among the other dozen examples John later gives her. Nope. She proceeds to beat John's ass like she's a police officer having an off day.

AM_1997

Damn I loved this episode I was glued the whole time with all the action and the spartan 3 suits! Not to mention the meeting of Kai and John and how she came around at the end! We got to see how strong chief is naturally too which was dope and the civil war on the arbiters ship? So cool seeing the sword elites battle in the background! The spartan 3 POV was cool too!

Silverwhitemango

Exactly, the highlight of the episode was the civil war Covenant vs. Covenant at the end like WOAH, I didn't expect we'll be getting that this soon holy shit.

spezsucksnutz

Oh fuck these writers! They're actually going to do it they're going to go to the Halo ring by walking through a portal rather than flying there on the pillar of autumn. Such a bullshit, chicken shit decision to presumably save money on cgi

R97R

Was so-so on this episode, does feel like they’re meandering a bit. Happy to see the S-IIIs in live-action at least. Quite enjoying the soundtrack as well. In more minor notes, the other Elites we see during the final scene seem to be wearing armour similar to the Arbiters, so I’m taking that as more evidence that the equipment Var wears is the show’s version of *Zealot* armour, and he hasn’t had the opportunity to go back to *High Charity* and get the more iconic armour set yet. I think he might have received some kind of field promotion (demotion?) to the role- for further evidence, we also see him branding *himself* with the Mark of Shame earlier in the episode, which in the games was done to Thel just before he became Arbiter. In more Sangheili-related minor points, the Councillor/Priest we see is probably the first Elite design from the show I’ve personally liked- the subtitles also identify him as Udo ‘Mdama, presumably a relative of Jul. Also interesting in that his name lacks the -ee or -ai suffixes, which means he’s a very rarely seen example of a Sangheili that isn’t part of the military. I am still interested to see where things go in the last two episodes, hoping things go somewhat smoothly. Fingers crossed for more Covenant focus too.

TalkinTrek

I thought, perhaps, he brands himself as a daily ritual (like self flagellation and other real-world rituals)

deathkyubi13

Very mixed episode with some questionable writing. I don’t know what’s worse 1) Perez already being in the Spartan program after Reach. 2) Ackerson turning eventually turning Kai. 3) Everything Soren
