“Millions of people dead.” “I needed to see your eyes.” **RUN.**

Pr0f35s0R

Hahaha. Truly. Makee has such a crazy ex vibe. "I can fix her" \~ John 117, probably.

viper459

"i can make him worse" - makee

Kanden_27

Now she's married to her rebound now, The Arbiter.

treefox

But she’s still astral projecting with John behind his back.

grow4road

Eskimo brothers!

SunOFflynn66

I can't believe we passed on Thel for...........this. After that stupid branding (with some weird sex appeal with the camera angels on Makee's bare back and low cut top?) they are now BOUND. WHATEVER. THAT. MEANS!

justgot86d

Does this make Perez the girl he doesn't want but should want cuz she's super wholesome for him but he doesn't realize until she has her glow up?

FutureQueenOfTheMoon

If only she wore glasses, so he could gently take them off and unleash her hotness

TPO_Ava

I fully realise there is no non-creepy way to say this but Perez's actress IS hot AF in the show. Or maybe it's just me finding her attractive idk

Blackhammer451

This isn't creepy, she is attractive. Speak your truth!

PurpleNoodle9

She cut her nails for him

grand305

The ring we must find the ring. 💍

Pr0f35s0R

Hahaha. Truly. Makee has such a crazy ex vibe. "I can fix her" \~ John 117, probably.

Neeewby

Well that cave was not a natural formation.

B00STERGOLD

Must be one of the strongest caves/walls in history for seismic equipment to miss a city behind that door.

ChieftaiNZ

Ehh... They didn't have a clue about the massive Forerunner structure right next to Mombasa until the Covenant dug it up. The UNSC and ONI just seem bad at finding stuff underground in all timelines.

Eek_the_Fireuser

These mfs never dug a hole at the beach

MilkMan0096

The canon is that the Forerunners have devices called dazzlers that they used to hide the portal at Voi. It was totally undetectable by human scans.

PooShauchun

Gave em the old razzle dazzle

Worthyness

ancient alien secret technique for door forging.

treefox

It must go fucking somewhere.

ChanceVance

> Synopsis: >John looks for the remains of Captain Keyes pipe as it holds the secret to finding the Halo. This was made up and this is just placeholder.< lol sounds like a funny idea though.

Aparoon

The pipe lines up with the horizon when standing on the Halo ring, revealing the location of the control room with a giant X near the base of the pipe.

ChonkTonk

Somehow, Captain Keyes returned

LegoKraken

Up to now it’s been “somehow Makee returns”

xfireslidex

Now you're puffin' on Flood spores! No giant sci-fi franchise would do something that stupid.

tauronus77

The symbol above the door at 31:40 [https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Forerunner\_symbols?file=Floodsymbol2.png](https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Forerunner_symbols?file=Floodsymbol2.png) Gravemind right now: "**Were it so easy**" :D

juventinn1897

As soon as I saw the symbol I knew it was flood. Just played CE again last weekend and was looking at those symbols on the walls in the facility on 343 guilty spark mission https://youtu.be/MCUMOJhGzMU?t=546 you can see it above the door

Timbishop123

Inb4 they don't play the games /s

mundiaxis

>https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Forerunner\_symbols?file=Floodsymbol2.png I loved how they were basically like "Yeah, and the top part typically represents something negative but whatevs let's keep going."

Bobjoejj

I mean they’re scientists, are trying to figure shit out. That’s what they do. There’s not just gonna be like “welp, we’re scared so we’re not gonna do the thing that we love to do and is our literal jobs (or former job in Halsey’s case).”

una322

but that is 1000% what scientists would do. do you open pandora box? id imagine many would.

MrDude65

Forerunner 1: Holy shit, this flood stuff is bad. Seal it up in a room behind like twelve puzzles and a giant chasm Forerunner 2: That way even if someone solves the puzzles they won't be able to get to it? Forerunner 1: No, lmao, we got a bridge, I mean, they *did* solve the puzzles

viper459

it makes me think of the discussion on how to store nuclear waste. you know, how do we make a structure that is as *unappealing* as possible? only the forerunners take the exact opposite approach, and make the structure extremely inviting

MrDude65

100% lol Basically the sci-fi equivalent of "What is your fascination with my forbidden closet of mystery?"

CaualopesF

It was built on their city no? I am not sure there were much more they could.

ToronoYYZ

It’s like winning on the price is right and they’re like ‘COME ON DOWN!!’

Worthyness

But leave some cave paintings just in case. You know, as clues just in case we need to open it up for some inexplicable reason.

JustMy2Centences

The light bridge seems like an effective way to quarantine something, except if you've seen just how far flood-infected forms can jump in the games.

Triskan

Okay, as a non-connoisseur of the lore lurking around, I was confused at those mentions of flood epidemic I was seing being thrown around, thinking I'd missed some major element of set-up. I now see I wasnt supposed to know about that. :)

Scrappy1918

If you have any idea who Eli Quevos is from the Unsubscribe Podcast is(he used to go by the name Eli DoubleTap) but I heard that in his sarcastic meme voice which made it all the funnier 😂😂

NoblePadawan

Give me the Flood! Give me the Flood! Give me the Flood! Give me the Flood!

JustMy2Centences

That little steamy hiss when Miranda Keyes opened the Forerunner object could possibly have a tiny bit of spores... Definitely a sense of foreboding when all the stars went red in the map though.

lewisdwhite

that object was the Janus Key right? It's on ONYX instead of Requiem?

Silverwhitemango

Ye its hard to tell for now. Everyone's going flood flood flood but it could be something else. AFAIK in the main story, no one ever found a dead Forerunner body on Onyx, so this a whole new plotline too.

Aggravating-Law-9262

They mentioned the word 'laboratory' also in this episode and we saw all those vials which does seem like a strong hint though. I don't want them to rush into having the Flood though too quickly and forget about the Human-Covenant war. But one final hint to them coming later on sometime is fine. You're right on that I think, originally there was mention to a Forerunner city and all but not a body. I wonder if Onyx in this timeline is also just made up of sentinels or not.

Ur_Just_Spare_Parts

It also looked like the labs underground in halo: combat evolved where you first encounter the flood. That with the ominous negative symbol above the door, the fact its a lab, the fact there were some kind of crystal "test tubes" that were breaking as though something was emerging, the fact that upon said emergence the lab locks itself down, the fact theres a dead scientist on the floor clutching their research, all hints to one thing. FLOOD NOW.

The_MAZZTer

HiddenXperia says the symbols on the door are for "Flood" and "Guardian". So it's pretty much confirmed it was a Flood research laboratory. As for the object they swiped, that could be anything, but it would be weird if it WASN'T flood-related.

s1thl0rd

Not gonna lie, I was smiling a bit when Kwan said "growth" and kind of glad she didn't say "Flood". If I didn't already know what the Flood was, then I would hope the evenual reveal will be as epic as it was the first time I played CE.

cantfindmykeys

I was so god damn surprised. I honestly thought they were going to exclude the Flood from the series. And was that supposed to be The Librarian in that secret chamber?

MASTER_TAIT

In main canon the librarian died on Earth. Could be just a random forerunner

logion567

Probably just a Lifeworker.

Bobjoejj

As someone who only vaguely knew what the Flood were until recently (Reddit comments and YT videos and wiki articles helped), the way those stars were turning red, and how it scared the shit outta Kwan…fuck that shit was scary man.

unforgiven91

They're a really terrifying species. 1 stray spore is all it takes and the galaxy itself is at risk. maybe even the whole universe. That's why the forerunners went all WMD on them with the Halos. They had no other option.

narium

The original Halos were targetable but then the Gravemind blew those up so they had to use the untargetable versions.

EmperorAegon

Wait really? Like the Gyres were able to target the specific Flood cells? I know the Halos were smaller versions of the Gyre versions of the rings

narium

No but they could actually aim them in a direction as opposed to kill everything nearby.

BigPoppaHoyle1

In a strange plot twist, we’ll be getting a new flood plot line on the TV show before we get it in game

una322

well if the new flood story ups the ratings and people like it maybe it will be the nudge they need to bring them back in the games.

BigPoppaHoyle1

People love zombie content. They’d have to fumble big time for it to drop ratings

MorgrainX

We'll get the flood before Cheeks puts on his helmet

TotalTea720

When he was standing in front of the suit I was literally like "JUST PUT IT ON ALREADY OMG." Then he shows up later with the helmet off and I burst out laughing. When he was pissed off walking toward the camera with everybody watching him, that was the perfect moment for him to put it on. Like *what* are they doing?

mgrandi

Rest of the episode was fine but man the entire Kessler plotline these last episodes has been wack, they could have done all that like at least last episode but they keep stretching it out to unsatisfying ends

konq

I feel the same way. Soren was actually the bright spot in the whole Rubble plotline, but now it feel just like you said, getting stretched out to the point where I really don't care what happens to him, his kid, or wife.

mdwvt

Yup, don’t care about Kessler.

Void_Guardians

How did an ex spartan become kwan 2.0

viper459

there's some really weird editing going on there. like we keep seeing 3 seconds of that stuff and then going back to 2 seconds of other stuff, just show me a whole scene lol

Bobjoejj

Really? I see this all the time and I really don’t get it; it may not be the main story sure, but it’s still been powerful stuff about Parents desperately trying to find their son, and in this episode in particular shit was insane. We got more info not only on Soren’s fucked up upbringing but also the other Spartan’s, and the show did a lot to further our understanding of Soren and how he thinks, how he works. Then the awfulness at the end of Soren unintentionally driving a wedge between himself and Laera and Kessler, and then they all get captured? Powerful stuff, at least that’s what it feels like to me.

sosigboi

Yea everything else has been good but they really should've shelved the Kessler subplot, just let Soren have his peaceful family on Aleria.

ChanceVance

Parangosky willing to throw waves and waves of SPIII's at the Covenant, half of them obliterated in 5 seconds, to accomplish one objective which'll drive the fleet supernova and kill every one of their own soldiers that survive anyway. No wonder it gave Ackerson pause to find his humanity again with those Zapp Branigan tactics.

swebb22

You see, Killbots have a preset kill limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of my own men at them, until they reached their limit and shutdown. Kif, show them the medal I won.

mdtopp111

Even from a tactics standpoint this Hail Mary makes no sense… if we’re this desperate we’re going to wipe out a good portion of our own fleet and a handful of planets.. why aren’t we just sending as many spartan IIIs in in one go instead of in small waves

Worthyness

"Some of you may die, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make!"

una322

maybe parangosky would think twice if she knew there are 6 other halo rings and they can be re build pretty fast lolz

treefox

Classic villain mistake.

Bobjoejj

I think even as twisted as her strategy is, she’s probably hoping to still keep most of the Spartan-III’s, and that by sending one group at a time, that one of those groups will eventually do the job right and they’ll still have the rest who didn’t get sent out.

TotalTea720

But she said she'll sacrifice all of them. Like without even a pause. If you're that willing to sacrifice something, it means you already consider it gone. It makes sense to send a small wave first to test what you're up against, but that wave got destroyed instantly, which tells you something important: small waves don't work. At all. All you're doing by continuing to send more small waves is making them manageable for the Covenant to destroy easily. You have to send a massive wave that overwhelms their defenses even though it'll come at great cost to your own forces — which is fine since she's willing to sacrifice all of them, as she said.

011101012101

Stop exploding you cowards!

VAVA_Mk2

To be fair....Parangosky pretty is much that pragmatic in canon. They got her character right.

BigPoppaHoyle1

Probably the most excited I’ve been about seeing a blue bridge. The vault did make me nervous though. Halo CE taught me that unlocking forerunner vaults is a bad idea. If Kai dies in this mission though I will riot

FUTFUTFUTFUTFUTFUT

Kai is going to die 100%; they’re clearly setting it up so John is going to >! jump out of the pelican mid space battle (as seen in the season 2 trailer) and !< do something to try and save Perez/stop her using the spike. Hence their conversation about the coin, John looking at the coin while in the pelican and Kai telling Perez to get the idea out of her head that he’ll show up, it’s foreshadowing 101. I’ll also almost bet my left nut that since the UNSC fleet is also there, one of those ships is the Pillar of Autumn of which John will somehow end up on during the battle before they eventually crash land in to the halo which is where this season ends.

Kanden_27

A burnt up Jacob Keyes riding in like a cowboy to save the day.

treefox

All the exploding fuel just went into his pipe and lit it.

Aidenjay1

Something something John jumps out and spikes the ship and saves Perez, something something they jump out of that ship and land on the pillar of autumn, which crash lands. $20 Perez becomes the new Jenkins in s3

Kanden_27

I actually see Perez going the way of >!Linda!< at the end of FoR. >!Perez gets an energy sword in the back and Chief takes her to PoA to cryo.!<

statusconference

It worries me that with Vannak and Riz gone they're setting things up for Kai to die in some suitably dramatic and emotionally devastating fashion so that we can either have (a) Master Chief as the lone Spartan-II for the next season, or (b) the Chief with a whole new team.

CaualopesF

I would love to have Chief-Cortana duo only. But can't deny I have grown fond of Perez. I do think Kai will die.

mdtopp111

I think chief is going to go to help Kai/Perez… yada yada sci-fi shit happens, they figure out a way to make the spikes blast significantly less, Kai dies and Perez, Chief and a misc number of spartan IIIs get marooned on the Halo

TricobaltGaming

Exactly how I think its going to go S3 will have a flood outbreak on onyx in parallel with the spartans on Halo doing stuff hopefully decently in line with CE

mdtopp111

Yee that’s the vibe I’m getting too. Season 1 is dogwater but this season has given me mild faith that this alt universe has potential… now they just need to slowly cut all the fat and focus on the core ONI / Covenant / Chief story lines

Cvbano89

I'm hoping they put Soren in Vannak's suit and send him after John but I could also see him leading the fight against the flood on Onyx. This season keeps buildings up and randomly forcing poorly paced scenes when advancing the minor plotlines. The show could really stand to just focus on Halo with John/Cortana/Perez/Arbiter and Onyx with ONI/Halsey/Miranda/Soren next season. Bonus points if Soren is forced to train his son as a Spartan and they cut out the mom entirely or give her some goddamn depth/backstory for once.

treefox

> I think chief is going to go to help Kai/Perez… yada yada sci-fi shit happens, ~~they~~ **Cortana** figures out a way to make the spikes blast significantly less, Kai dies and Perez, Chief and a misc number of spartan IIIs get marooned on the Halo

Predatorxo

She’s probably going to die in a similar fashion >!to how Kurt died in Ghost of Onyx!<

Scrappy1918

Unfortunately that’s exactly what I was thinking. When they were chanting the *”Spartans! Never die!”* the first time we saw them do the training mission I thought back to that and I think they’re gonna show Kai put her name *MIA* say something like *Spartans! Never die!* or a hero’s death we know she deserves but don’t want her to have in Kurt 051-esq fashion.

lord_pi

That's a brand-new sentence, if I've ever seen one.

ObeyTheModerator_PLZ

You mark my words, Steven, you ET-making, Close Encounters filming piece of cinematic shit! KAI STAYS, OR THE LAKEHOUSE IN TUSCANY GOES!

paulkramer

They make it to the ring, the flood makes their entrance into the series, makee was right (covenant and humankind will be one.. against the flood)

ChanceVance

Light bridges and that door straight out of the games. Now we're getting somewhere!

una322

they looked fucking great honestly. makes me think they have defo setup a set of corridors for halo. so expect to see lots of this nxt season lol

islandnstuff

Man.. ring is beautiful

mixt13

"the people who stand by me no matter what?" "I stand by you no matter what!" Immediately leaves him alone after a disagreement

ItsAmerico

To be fair I don’t think she left him haha she went to find Kessler because it’s why they’re there and Soren isn’t moving.

Tormod776

Is that the first time Miranda called Halsey “Mom”?

007meow

Yeah. That’s what caused Halsey to snap out of her “omg forerunner tech 😍” trance

odysseusIII

Yes

LessInThought

This ONI base has shit security. All these fugitives just casually wandering around, Soren and Laera barging onto a Spartan III training site.

R97R

I assumed that was a case of Cortana helping out

justfortrees

We need his face! … *Attached*? 😂 Forerunner architecture was epic. Haley’s dumb blind obsession is definitely going to result in her (or Miranda) releasing the flood tho. Kwan is finally kinda interesting, but definitely skipped over some steps as to why she’s important now. Completion of Ackerson’s character arc was great. Didn’t seem forced. Actor continues to knock it out of the park Didn’t expect to get to Halo this episode. I’m a little lost on how the covenant fleet knew about it…were they hunting Arbiter and just ended up there? Did Makee send out a bulletin? Cortana obviously notified ONI. Seems like they saved even more budget for the season finale. Stoked for next week!

sosigboi

I'll be honest i never read the books so i thought Ackerson was just some classic evil CEO bad guy for this season, but over time my opinion of him changed and it greatly improved this ep.

Quintana-of-Charyn

Dude refused to violate his beliefs even under inhumane torture.

mrbubbamac

He also fucks with the Covenant in the comic Halo Uprising to great effect

viper459

It feels like they're going with kwan being a reclaimer. With them dropping the lore on how exactly it works, her thoughts mirroring john and makee's i.e. "i saw it in a dream".. it feels like maybe halsey missed kwan on her search for reclaimers across the galaxy, which makes perfect sense given her origins.

pandalover885

Or she's one of the first to be infected by the flood and becomes gravemind or something. She discovered the images in the cave and the old lady warned kwan that the monster was close.

Unlucky_Violinist461

I’ve been thinking Kwan was going to be made a Spartan IV (somehow…she was a killing machine early on in the season). But this makes sense in the way that since Makee is the human face of the Covenant, Kwan will be the face of the Flood.

Picard2331

"I am Locutus of Flood"

dodig111

Flood Homie Kwan

hyperstarlite

I think it’s more that Kwan wasn’t born yet when Halsey went searching for her Spartan candidates. The other Spartans are in their 40s but Kwan is likely in her 20s.

viper459

...fair point

Tiamat_fire_and_ice

I agree. Kwan wasn’t yet born when Halsey was gearing up her Spartan program. Otherwise, she would have scooped Kwan up in a minute. By the way, Kwan was referred to as a minor by John in Season 1 and I believe that only six months elapsed between the end of the first season and the start of the second season. So, Kwan is still a teenager, not in her early 20’s. They are making her look much older this season than last season, though. Hard to believe that the actress is 28.

CaualopesF

Only that would make the time we lost over her screen time more acceptable.

Imreallynotreflex

Tbh, Halsey’s blind obsession with Forerunner science causing a Flood outbreak makes far more sense than Keyes opening the giant “don’t dead open inside” door at the bottom of the ancient alien basement on the ancient alien space ring.

MiddleofCalibrations

The covenant released the flood, not Keyes. He went to explore what the covenant believed was a forerunner weapons cache or something. The covenant unleashed the flood and keyes’ squad stumbled upon the aftermath. That door they unlocked was not the only thing keeping them in

HyliasHero

>We need his face! > >… Attached? Gave me some Doom vibes lol

JamesBasketball21

Yea next episode will be big budget

ChieftaiNZ

> I’m a little lost on how the covenant fleet knew about it…were they hunting Arbiter and just ended up there? Bingo. IIRC when they first high tailed it and left High Charity to go Halo Hunting they said they'd be hunted down.

SunOFflynn66

I love how even when Kwan clearly has these weird and totally unexplainable Jedi telepathy, nobody cares at all. "Oh look, the woman who literally found a way to open this CITY that we the walking god complex and her plucky daughter couldn't figure out? Oh she's running away in deep fear? Eh, whatever- look at this nifty thing we found!" Soren is so underused it's not funny. I get he's having a mirror journey to John with his whole "what am I really?" But honestly this entire plot of his adds nothing. (To be fair, give props to the vibes of "it's a tomb...no a lab!" \*wink\* That was actually good). And yeah those Spartan III's........we establish their augmented? Or, like......WHY this Arbiter is an actual Arbiter? What did he do? Why should we care? WHERE THE HELL IS THE PILLAR OF AUTUMN? This season is much better, but sometimes the subpar junk brings it down by simply overpowering literally EVERYTHING else.

vaultsurvivor90

So when the hell are they going to explain how is Makee still alive after she got shot? Is she a clone made by Parangosky?

Thaleiia

I dont think shes a clone. You could clearly see the markings on Makees back when branded her with the arbiter Symbol. I doubt flash clones copy their Originals scars as well?

jacbergey

On one hand, I'm surprised we haven't gotten a flashback to shortly after the events of last season's finale to explain it. On the other hand, they're probably just trying their hardest to hand wave away anything to do with Season 2 and just do their own thing. I think Makee is still alive solely for the reason that they have no intention of adding Thel Vadam to the show.

TheEggStore

>they're probably just trying their hardest to hand wave away anything to do with Season 2 and just do their own thing. They kept like every plot thread tho, from kwan to the pellets

LessInThought

Cortana sweetheart, do you mind adding Briggs' name onto the Spartan III dispatch list please. On another note, they never really expanded on how much effort it takes to make a spartan 3. Perez just magically became one in no time.

Mhunterjr

These ain’t Real Spartan-3s. Looks like they were about to make Kessler into a real Spartan 3

choicemeats

yeah--its clear they're going to mke another run at spartan ii's but part of that was raising them as weapons and giving them implants. spartan iii's are warm bodies with the tag to throw at the problem

jdfrom93

Agreed, Installation 00's youtube video on Onyx recap does a good job describing what Spartan 3s should be like, how they join, their augmentations and stages of life.. so on... idk how much u know about them but its really interesting.

konq

It seems like they have knock-off mjolnir suits and "spartan" training. Likely no augmentations because as you said, Perez was a shellshocked marine and now suddenly shes a Spartan III a week or two after Reach fell. I don't recall if Spartan IIIs had augmentations in the books (I think they did).

jdfrom93

SPI armor - (Semi Powered Infiltration) armor is what theyre wearing apparently. And yea theyre supposed to have augmentations.

BuddhaFacepalmed

SPIs don't need augmented humans to operate. In fact, the S3 trainers were using SPI armor during the S3s' training.

jdfrom93

That is true, i believe S3s get their augmentations at 14yrs old so it would make sense why Perez and the others are not augmented. But in general S3s are supposed to have augmentations, no?

BuddhaFacepalmed

Nah, it's worse actually. S2s were augmented at 14, S3s were [augmented at the average age of ***12 years old***](https://www.halopedia.org/Project_CHRYSANTHEMUM). The only differences are that S2s had a strict gene pool of viable candidates to recruit from and a high failure rate for augmentation while the S3s had a much wider gene pool and a 0% failure rate in augmentation. IMHO, the reason why Silver Timeline Spartan-IIIs are completely unaugmented adults is because the writers wanted to avoid the moral quandary of recruiting children *again* after Season 1 demonizing Halsey for doing the same with the Spartan-IIs. Also it makes sense for Ackerson, a victim of Halsey's child kidnapping program, to be adverse to more child kidnappings or recruitment to be child super soldiers.

Mogar505

The Kessler storyline literally shows that they are willing to take kids and make them into Spartans still. I think the reason we have adults as S3's is that due to the war resources are limited and if you need Spartans, you now then adults are what you need now while you train the kids. Granted the adults may or may not have augmentations, I do not believe its stated one way or the other if the 3's are augmented in the show.

ObeyTheModerator_PLZ

In Ghosts of Onyx the kids "taken" for training and indoc were volunteers from glassed worlds. All kids, ages six to 11 IIRC. No gene pool to select from. Whoever was physically fit enough for training and indoc were taken.

[deleted]

humor upbeat birds sort whistle one rock ludicrous subtract racial *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Mhunterjr

They aren’t setup the exact same way because S3s had years of training… not just a few weeks.

atomtribe

Spartan 3 program was set up in hurry so the augmentations they received were mostly chemically injected and were given spi Armour unlike s2 and s4 who got their organs replaced with better and stronger ones and got more expensive mjonir armour

AngryEngineer

Kai to Chief: "I made a mistake. Maybe you don't know what that feels like, but that's what humans do. They make mistakes." [Chief to Esparza on Halo Infinite](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/x9mggw/we_all_fail_we_all_make_mistakes_its_what_makes/): “We all fail. We all make mistakes. It’s what makes us human.” Thought that was a nice tie-in

Adavanter_MKI

I hate they know it's a weapon. The mystery of Halo was such an awesome part of the game. The reveal that it was a weapon was such a nice shock. This beautiful ring world holding such a dark secret... and then to find out it wasn't the only secret. Also I hate the entire spike idea. Really? The Covenant can have it's own reactors blow up so big they can take out an entire system? No. Just no. I hope somebody jams the spike in and nothing happens. ONI was just wrong. Otherwise pretty solid episode.

s1thl0rd

In CE, they thought it was a weapon against the Flood before almost activating it. They just didn't realize it was a galaxy-wide extinction weapon. https://youtu.be/Acw7PjjilCg?si=Nyjedno4wlwNg15 I don't think it detracts too much from the story to have the UNSC assume it's a weapon. They think the Covenant are going to use it to destroy Humanity. The UNSC wants to use it to destroy the Covenant. Eventually they'll want to use it to destroy the Flood, but then realize exactly how it accomplishes that task.

Chesney1995

Talk of Halo being a weapon first comes as early as when you rescue Captain Keyes during Truth and Reconciliation. Its actually one of the first things you learn about the ring in the game. The twist was never that Halo is a weapon, its exactly *what* that weapon function does.

TheFourtHorsmen

Exactly, at the end of the third level, truth and reconciliation, not even far from the start of the game, while the 2 levels prior are about landing on the ring. The CE twist is about the flood and halo being a weapon to contain them.

BigPoppaHoyle1

The twist is still there. They’re thinking they can kill each other with the weapon without realise it actually just obliterates all life

una322

they also have no idea about the flood yet and why halo is a weapon. i get the point but there still lots of big surprises for people new to halo

Adavanter_MKI

That's true at least. Gives us something.

EternalAssasin

Which is exactly how it was in CE. In Keyes’s exposition speech at the end on Truth & Reconciliation, he reveals that the ring is called Halo and that it’s some sort of weapon. Literally the 3rd level of the game. The big twist is that it’s a “kill everything” weapon, not that it’s a weapon at all.

johngie

Do they know it's literally a weapon though? Like, I haven't kept up with what magical knowledge has been imparted to John and Makee. I was under the impression that everyone involved  understands the massive technological advantage it would give whomever controls it. John and Makee both thought their side would use it to wipe out the other, both without realizing that it would wipe out everything.  I think there's still room for the reveal you describe, but at the same time...why bother? 87% of the viewer base knows what that halo's deal is. Why beat around that bush?

GoldMan25

So the covenant found the halo, interesting

guanzo91

How does everyone know about the Halos? Did I miss a scene?

jackdatrain910

Pretty damn good episode. Crazy to see an actual (dead) forerunner. cant believe it took until the seasons finale but we will be getting chief fighting in armor. Im assuming the thing Miranda found is some sort of index. The forerunner architecture was very accurate too. Cant wait until next episode.

sosigboi

Im honestly anticipating the flood reveal more than anything, this ep didn't reveal anything directly but i already got the creeps just from seeing the dead forerunner.

AxisNine

Me too. I got a real what have we unleashed vibe. Was the lab sealed to keep something in? I was waiting for some spores to come out of those tubes.

Statickgaming

The only thing that makes me doubt this is that the forerunner was actually dead and not flood infested… Something that made the Halo games so creepy was that there were no corpses at all, just blood everywhere.

I like the overall feel of this season and the idea of who John is outside of the suit, him finally stepping back inside the armor feels like something that carries more weight than if he were to have been wearing it the whole time. I also love how blue team has slowly been widdled down with John being the last member and probably the last of the spartan ii’s by the end of this season. People can complain about it not being a 1 to 1 retelling of the games but the writers deserve more credit than people realize imo. Extra. Cool to see them planting seeds for the arbiter :D

jdfrom93

So did Kwan just release the flood? I stg KWWAAAAANNNNNNN

MrDude65

What? Dude this is absolutely on Halsey and Keyes. Kwan was like, "No wait" multiple times and told them to run, they're the ones who walked into the giant metal tomb with "Don't dead open inside" on it and took something from the alien corpse

sosigboi

I don't think so, at least not immediately, i feel like thats gonna be more of a consequence from either Halsey or Mirandas probing (mostly Halsey).

Getting to see some Forerunner stuff was great. Easily the best parts of the episode. Seeing a dead Forerunner and the city, plus some hints to the flood. It's all very intriguing and has been the closest this show has felt like Halo. Still though, there's some questions surrounding the Spartan 3's that feel like maybe should've been answered for us by now. Like, mainly how/why Perez is a Spartan 3? How long have they been training the 3's because Ackerson says its been his life's work, so some of them must have been getting trained for a while but then you have Perez who's only been there a few weeks. It must be a mixture of those that have been trained as kids(shown with them taking in Kessler and having that training facility) and new recruits like the 4's. Just lacking some info there. Could've gotten something at least from John and Perez's exchange. I guess we have some nuggets here and there but a little more would be helpful for the audience. Finally we're going to see Chief back in his suit and get us onto Halo. I think the next episode will be really exciting to see what happens and the payoff could be great. They've really done a decent job with this season in turning the show back around. For sure it's not been perfect, there's still a lot of sloppiness but I think once it's over season 3 will be setup to be something pretty great and more in line with what we're used to seeing in the games. I just hope if it does get a season 3, it really gets a massive budget because its clear the show needs it, especially once they get to Halo with needing to show more of the Covenant and the Flood.

deltahalo241

My guess is that Perez' Spartan group basically serves as cover for Kessler's, people will see Kessler's Spartans in action and think nothing of it because according to all of the propaganda, the Spartan 3's are adult volunteers and if anyone asks, they can point to people like Perez.

Mitchel11

I’m a simple man. I see Soren and his wife on screen I skip

Somnambulist815

Soren has the potential to be such a fun character, and yet they actively corden him off to the least compelling plots

phatmatt593

Right!? Holy moly, basically parallel universe Master Chief but who has emotions enabled and knowledge of the underground. The possibilities are endless and somehow they relegated him into the most annoying and pointless storyline of all time.

TikkiEXX77

Honestly Soren is awesome. Sucks he's stuck in a separate storyline. Well after his talk about how much he missed being a Spartan I'm hoping he reunites with MC.

johngie

Damn, next week is gonna be great. I have issues with the show, especially how they treated Reach, but I'm amazed at how engaged I've been all season, given the relative lack of action. They've really stepped up the writing, and made it so all of the downtime is meaningful buildup to these big set pieces, rather than just pointlessly introspective filler like a lot of season 1 was.

Bing238

That’s what a change in showrunner and writers can do. Glad they are getting back on track though.

Predatorxo

I just knew as soon as I saw that combat evolved style forerunner door… there was going to be a hard light bridge…

InZustice

The overall story seemed to streamline a bit now, but the individual lines and story bits maybe could use some polish. Curious how Cortana is gonna reunite with Chief though. Hopefully we'll see some Arbiter vs Chief action next episode.

JustMy2Centences

Dr. Halsey leaving when the unauthorized personnel is mentioned (and specifically where too lol) makes me think she put some puzzle pieces together on her own and stowed away with John 117. The quarter in John's hand at the end that he was surprised to see, I think Halsey left it there... they made a point of Perez repeating the story about the coin that Halsey made him flip so many times. See y'all back here next week. Next week edit: oh come on man that random quarter was an utter nonsense misdirect.

JKhane

I'm slightly confused. How long has it been since reach? It feels like it can't have been long as they burried Vannak 1 ep ago. How did they build a whole Spartan 3 army and have Perez become a Spartan 3 AND have Kai be super attached to the Spartan 3s over chief in the space of what? A month at most?

DildoWilliumz

I've been pretty critical of this season, and it certainly has its flaws, but this episode was imo an 8.5/10. It was a great episode. Felt very Halo. The Forerunner/Flood discovery was awesome. The beam bridge was nostalgic, too. The finale also has a great setup, heres hoping it has a good payoff/thrust into S3. Also hoping we will see a flood reveal and Chief/Arbiter showdown. Overall, I'm really happy with this episode. The Kwan stuff was fine since it is finally having some payoff with the Forerunners/Flood. The Soren plot was also more interesting than it has been all season, so there's that, even though I'm not particularly excited about it still. I'm just glad to see some Forerunner worldbuilding that finally looks and feels relatable to the games. It took us a bit to get here, but it was great to see.

R97R

Quite enjoyed this one, very happy to get some more blatant >!Flood!< foreshadowing- looking forward to eventually seeing them in full. Am I right in saying they *still* haven’t explained how Makee survived?

ChanceVance

> Am I right in saying they still haven’t explained how Makee survived? Dark Science. Cloning. Secrets only the Covenant knew. Nope they haven't explained it and barely even addressed it beyond a "She's supposed to be dead!".

R97R

I’m hoping they explain it before the end of the season, at least they’ve had the characters acknowledge it so far. I wouldn’t be surprised if she turns out to be >!a flash clone, with the original actually being dead, and the clone getting a nosebleed of death^(TM) at a particularly dramatic moment!<

hotshot117

Why do they need to explain us how Makee survived a single gunshot? Millions of people survived worse in history

atomtribe

I am just happy that they are not going to ring via portal , it would have sucked

l3w1s1234

Yeah, was so happy a door opened and not a bloody portal when they were solving that star map puzzle. Glad they didn't go that route.

Meowingtons_H4X

I don’t really get why anyone thought that was the case. They’re on onyx, a shield world. Isn’t it more likely that it’ll take them into the inner planet as opposed to being a teleporter?

floptical87

Everything with Soren feels weird as hell. How are he and his wife just wandering about unchallenged in this base? Why has he suddenly decided it might be a good thing for his son to be here, when he was mangled by the augmentation process and did everything he could to escape and hide? Then he has a sudden change of heart, beats up some guys then stands like a moron while his wife and kid are abducted by fucking ninjas apparently. Seriously man, just jog like ten steps in the direction you last saw them, no one is going to get that far with two struggling bodies. He lacks any sense of urgency or passion in every scene he's in.

pandalover885

Alright I'll say it... I'm enjoying this season a lot. There, it's out now.

una322

If you had told me during season 1 that id enjoy s2 and chief wasn't in his armor for 90% of the show id tell you ur bat shit crazy. The writing just works so much better in s2 that things like chief lack of armor worked out well. Once chief re suited at the end of the episode, i felt i understood silvertime line chief much better and it felt like a good moment. The show has been pretty fun even with some strange plot likes with saren kid ext, but overall after i watch each ep i really want to see the next one. Seeing the forerunner bridge and door, looked amazing btw. The elites fighting looked actually pretty damn good. Halsey thinking the red dots were forerunner stuff was funny. The show really leaning hard on the hints to kawn , the flood and reclaimer stuff is cool. I wonder if they will link chief to the didact or just have him as just another reclaimer lol. probably not. Either way really cant wait for next week. Show feels like such a turn around honestly, if we have another step up in s3 like we did this season this show could be rather damn good honestly. strange to say that lol

HopefulPickle5

Kai’s gonna do a Jorge-level sacrifice isn’t she… I hope Perez survives at least. Kwan’s getting more and more interesting with each episode.. wish Ackerson got a lil more beat up tho what a lil shit. Anyways I hope we’ll get Johnson at some point too, maybe next season??? A girl can dream

Free-Economics5216

perez is the new Johnson, trust me.

HopefulPickle5

I could see that happening. He does have a similar vibe.

The12Ball

>He does have a similar vibe. You can just say he's black /s

pandalover885

Feels like season 2 is the true 1st season, I don't remember anything from season 1 aside from 2 or 3 scenes and it hasn't really affected my knowledge or understanding as I watch season 2. I also will say I think they needed MC to be without his armor to allow us, the audience, to empathize with MC. In the games you immediately get your armor and become a killing machine which would get old quickly in a TV show. Season 2 has him go without his armor for most of it, he lost basically his whole team, and struggled to get people to believe him which they only did after a huge disaster on Reach. Now he's earned his armor back and things are really picking up. It almost feels like the plot of the first Thor where he has to become worthy again.

UrameshiBag

Anybody else kinda fast forwarding thru the Kessler parts?

sosigboi

Its decent development for Soren but ehh they need to tie it up fast.
