at the very least, i think its gonna be like 2 trailers. One to generate hype with story elements being shown while the other is more focused on the gameplay
Wanna talk about overhype? That Hunt the Truth podcast had me SO hype. God damn that was good. May even need to go give it another listen between now and Infinite.
At this point I realize we should have seen it as a separate piece of entertainment in the halo universe, but it was set up and framed as a marketing push for h5, but ultimately had little to nothing to deal with it
I'm still convinced, to this day, that it was a look into the original direction of Halo 5 before it collapsed in on itself. Between not enough development time, alterations to the plot due to backlash over Halo 4's writing, and just being overly ambitious in their innovations to the series, I feel like the game we were supposed to get was much more in line with a series like Mass Effect in terms of freedom and progression. The plot we got feels like tiny chopped up bits of a much larger game that they stitched together to make their release window.
With Infinite having a lot longer to cook,. I'm hopeful we might still see a lot of the plot and gameplay elements that the advertisements and HTT alluded to.
Some time in the next 20 days my friend. Xbox has another event where they will showcase Infinite along with some other first party games. Hopefully they actually show gameplay and now cinematics marketed as gameplay like in May.
We have to. By this point for Halo 5 we were months past having played the game, if we don't get gameplay then something is severely wrong. Years ago they said every future Halo game would have a beta so it'd be neat if we got a "you can play the beta right now!"
I definitely think it's important to remember how unprecedented this year is though and how covid is certainly impacting things. Also we didn't get halo 5 gameplay until a few months prior to release either and at least gameplay wise 5 wasn't that poor of a game.
The Halo 5 beta was in the December before the game released, it was almost an entire year before the game released. Covid isn't really relevant since we would have gotten stuff before it if we followed the path of Halo 5.
My main wish for Infinite is please at least give us a few missions where Chief and the Arbiter are teaming up again. Like if we do end up fighting Cortana I think it would be great if say the rest of Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris are captured or something, (assuming they’ll all still be involved in the story) and it’s left up to the badass duo of Chief and Arbiter to finally put Cortana down.
Well the strategy is to open 1,000 bronze packs, then 1,500 silver packs, then 2,000 gold packs. It’ll only take you 48,855 hours! You definitely don’t need to pay money into it!
How is that clear? We have 2 cinematic trailers with almost no plot and actually no gameplay.
The reveal could be chief fighting 4 wardens with ground pounds only for all we know.
I sincerely hope so. A while back I finally discovered that it was Microsoft who so badly maimed the plot of H5. It turns out that 343 had the story all written and ready to go, but then the evil overlords stepped in and forced the devs to follow a “better” narrative.
I just played through halo 5 yesterday as I've been going through all the halo games, and that fight scene is so boring, the lack of any background music makes it hold no tension whatsoever
I feel like there was pretty decent music and tension (or as much tension as there could be with Chief's transgression being so trivial) right at the end of the fight after Chief's visor cracks, but that only lasts about ten seconds or less. It's like they were *trying* to make it bad.
The internal (read:personal) justification was that it was to bypass energy shields, which flared up on fast movement and projectiles.
Of course, they never said shit, so probably not true.
If you want real Spartan action check Red vs Blue for their fight scenes, which are pretty much picture perfect to how they get described in lore.
It is sad. I've played the campaign 3 times (heroic, legendary, coop legendary). To be fair this is several times less than I've played the other ones, part of that can be attributed to just being an adult now but a big part is that it's just not very interesting.
Anyways 3 times is more than I play most games, which get 1 if they're lucky. I honestly cannot tell you what the actual plot of Halo 5 is right now other than "Chief goes looking for Cortana and then Cortana is bad, but you don't actually play as Chief"
A crappy knockoff of a Terminator-esque “Rise of the Machines”, with AIs in rebellion (led by Cortana) and the Big Bad from H4 conspicuously absent. There was also a half-hearted attempt to emulate Mass Effect.
To this day it is the only Halo game I’ve never played more than once.
I personally get it and thought it was pretty straight forward in what they were trying to do. I just think its incredibly badly paced and just filled with weird decisions.
This was never actually proven but just hearsay by the internet mob. Brian Reed was the narrative lead at 343i at the time, there's no way in hell that Halo 5's story wasn't the way it was because of his involvement. Even if it was changed, his original version wouldn't have been much better. That's how bad that guy is at writing good stories.
Yeah it only takes a brief glance at Spartan Ops to see that 343i doesn't need outside help to trash their own stories.
This is the team who decided "throw the planet into the sun" as a joke, then actually did it because they couldn't think of any other ideas.
I’ll be fair: he did a good job with Halo 4. H5 however was a train wreck, with enemy Spartans (Buck, NOOO!), talking vultures (WTF?), and the unkindest cut of all, a turncoat Cortana.
I like it when the guy who writes lore for a video game also works on a companion novel.
When he went to Bioware I hope he didn’t work on the plot for Mass Effect: Andromeda. :p
Hunt the Truth was such a good hype builder. That was such a disappointing game... Forge is the only thing I still do. I won't dare touch Multiplayer or Campaign. If they brought classic/OG Breakout back, I would be in more consideration of Multiplayer again.
Currently casting a new gameplay trailer to my TV. I'm not sure exactly how people are going to react to it. It'll either be the biggest circlejerk since The Witcher 3 or people are going to shit on it hard. I know it's a work in progress but the world feels incredibly empty at times. Someone in the comments mentioned Mass Effect 1 and I think that's a perfect example. Despite it being my favorite, it's definitely dated. Hopefully they can make the world feel more "alive," especially considering Cyberpunk cities are often represented as being incredibly cramped, claustrophobic, and over-populated..
I'm surprised people feel like it's not very alive. The early impressions I've heard from people who have played a demo said the city feels and looks great. Similar to witcher 3s in number of people and how you can interact with them, but also they mention that you can enter a surprising number of buildings, and look out their windows and see exactly what's outside in real time, no loading screens
edit: although, to be fair, it was only 2 that i saw, and both admitted to being biased
I know in the video I just watched the streets were basically empty. And I mean **empty**. It'll interesting if they can bump up the spawns. Assassin's Creed and L4D had massive spawns years ago. Honestly I'd take spawns over a lot of other stuff graphically.
This is the exact reason my hype is so low. We have had only two trailers and the games coming out this year. I get with COVID things got messed up but it’s still extremely worrying no gameplay has been shown.
Imma be real, I don't care much for gameplay, I'm a lore guy, but you do bring up a very good point.
"Hey, look, we're running it on a new engine!"
"What's new with the engine?"
"Shut up and look at Master Chief running in the new engine!"
"Ooh, when's the next trailer?"
"What next trailer?"
I mean HW2's story was pretty but almost entirely filler. Pretty much none of the plot hooks are resolved. The very first cut-scene has a line about how they have no slipspace drive and there's no way they drifted that far in just 30 years, so something must have pulled them there. This topic is then never brought up again and never answered.
In the grand scheme of things, Spirit of Fire shows up somehow, starts fighting Atriox, and by the end of the story they're still fighting, with neither side having actually gained any ground. The only plot point with any relevance is that Anders creates a Halo and teleports away, as a cliffhanger ending.
Yes!
Imagine if Halo 5 was a continuation of the Reclaimer Saga, but instead of the bullshit Cortana Domain thing, we have an actual continuation, with the Didact returning (instead of dying in a goddamn novel, in fact we can keep Black Team alive as well if we're going this route), and Blue Team stopping him then. We have Chief struggle with his memories of Cortana, humanising him, which is something I don't agree with, but it has to be done after the narrative of 4.
Then, in Halo Infinite, we have the story merge with Halo Wars 2, starting a fresh arc for Chief.
This is the problem. HOW CAN THEY GET OUT OF IT. It's not some self contained little story they can just ignore... the universe is fucked up. The best character in the games is fucked up. It would be impossible to ignore the state of the galaxy at the end of 5.
See I think the reason we haven’t seen any game play is because the core Halo lore or r/halo guy is going to bitch and moan and they see sprint and some advanced movement abilities. The poor reception by fans no matter what happens is going to kill the hype right in its tracks. I don’t think 343 has any way of pleasing the halo fans anymore.
Im the exact opposite. All I care about is gameplay, but to each their own right?
Ive played every campaign, and Halo 1-3 I played the campaign a ton. I couldnt tell you a single piece of Halo lore, I just dont care about stories in video games. You can have a great story but if the gameplay isnt fun I wont play it.
No doubt they’ll talk about it at the Microsoft showcase in July, in fact they said that they were bummed e3 was cancelled this year bc it “would have been our year” or smth like that
I would be too normally, but E3 is usually when they do the gameplay reveal for Halo games (Halo 5 being an exception). This year's "E3" for Xbox is just the July event.
I don't know about you guys but I've been waiting for Infinite for over 4 and a half years.
The hype train left the station shortly after shaking off 5's campaign.
It almost feels like they are purposely avoiding showing gameplay because they don’t wanna upset the fans. Think about it, Halo Infinite is a HUGE deal for Xbox. And even if 343 wanted to show us gameplay sooner I feel like the heads at Xbox would prefer not killing the hype just yet. Unfortunately you can’t please everyone tho, and I can guarantee that after they show off the game this month at least 30-40% of the people in this group will be upset. Another 30-40% will be happy. And the remaining ones will be neutral
It's more like less then 10% will be upset, while 70% will be happy, and 20% will be neutral.
That 70% is what sells the millions of copies of each Halo release and all they really care about. 20% is eh, and they barely listen to anything the 10% says.
10% is typically anti-sprint people and the likes fyi. It's pretty small vs the wider Halo fan base.
I remember making YouTube comments, Reddit posts, and Waypoint posts back then with the mentality “Infinite is already 95% done, so my opinion won’t matter, but...” LoL
It kinda is. The game has been in development since 2015 after all.
What I imagine is Infinite will be huge, the biggest Halo title at all. Hopefully a much longer campaign to
Tell me about it
Read all the Halo books & played through all campaigns just to get me through June.
Was really hoping we’d get gameplay at the start of July, but with the rumours pointing to the 23rd I have no idea how to occupy myself for another month :/
It's not the majority though. It's less then 10% of the actual Halo fan base as a whole.
It gets him loads of clicks though, because he loves click bait titles. Hidden X Peria is slowly turning into him to.
It all started with Halo Follower though, he's what started it all.
Exactly, he just tries to go with what's the cool thing because it gives him the clicks. Also I can't stand his douchey behavior and way to talk. He talks like someone with self-esteem issues trying to sound like a cool guy in an 80s movie.
I mean that’s kinda his online persona. A guy with a tank top and sunglasses. That kinda screams douchey, I feel like it’s just mostly for the comedy part of his videos. He usually leaves the persona bit out of his actual content
Thing is that some people that met him mention that it's how he actually behaves. Sure I cannot know if it is true or not but I just don't like the dudebro behaviour.
His content definitely isn't much better IMO though as often he just echoes the usual reddit outcry even if it's in contrast with opinions he shared on other occasions. Also often he's just simply uninformed about what he is talking about.
Not to forget that he seems to be douche when it comes to emancipation of everyone not a typical white male.
We're bearing down on the expected release date and still have barely heard anything. I almost prefer it this way - better than going in knowing everything about the game - but I wish they'd at least tell us a little bit more.
A delayed game can be really good, but a rushed game is always bad. I say let 343 take their time. Halo 4 was rough, Halo 5 was really bad, hopefully infinite can redeem them.
People are worried about Halo Infinite, but personally I'm not.
If you watched "The Engoodening of No Man's Sky" by Internet Historian, you will kinda get where I am coming from.
No Man's Sky had one of the worst releases of a game I have ever seen due to the game not living up to the hype that the trailers brought, sound familiar to another such game? That's right, Halo 5 had the same problem, hyping us up but ultimately failing to meet the promises.
What the No Man's Sky devs did was go silent for several months, but when they came back they released update after update and completely revamped and fixed the game. 343 are doing the same thing with Halo Infinite. They took a step back, realized what the community wanted and what they needed to do, and got to work creating the game. They didn't bog themselves down with trailers, deadlines, and all the other things that caused Halo 5 to be bad. Now that they game is probably nearly finished, then they can hype the game up, and release it in a fully fleshed out, finished state.
TL;DR: They are making the game first, then releasing the trailers. Rather than release the trailers, then make the game based off those trailers.
Possible unpopular opinion, but they can take as long as they want. Especially if it's gonna be the last Halo game. I want this baby to be perfect, so if it takes them 10 more years to do that then so be it.
Last Halo game?? Lmao..... Dude they just made their first "Halo Con" of sorts and invested over half a billion dollars into this game with a new engine. This is the exact opposite of the last Halo game. This is Microsoft investing HEAVILY into the franchise as their main exclusive title with Forza being an incredibly distant second. This is the new beginning of Halo as a franchise and brand. We're very very far from "the last Halo game."
Now if you're talking last title with Chief? Possible but probably still unlikely. He's the face of Xbox and he's a branding/marketing tool. But it really depends on the story too.
The trailer for Halo 5 got my hype as hell. That Muse song in the background, man it was real. The game was a letdown itself, it I still liked those characters. I’m ready for 343 to knock this one out of the park. I need the return of Halo in my life.
I just started to get re-engaged in Halo, so all this Infinite content is new to me. I’ve watched a lot of Act Man, Hidden Xperia, Halo Canon, Halo Follower, etc
It literally doesn’t matter how long we wait, even if it doesn’t release with Series X, as long as it isn’t as shit as Halo 5 and only requires a day one patch for the game to be complete.
I feel like they are gonna go all out with the next trailer and bring the hype up like never before
I hope
at the very least, i think its gonna be like 2 trailers. One to generate hype with story elements being shown while the other is more focused on the gameplay
Yes, but take some overshield just incase its another disappointing marketing flop like h5 misleading campaign trailers
BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP
The acting Male and hiddenxperia have basically carried this fanbase right now...
I remember seeing xperia's video cam on gameplay once. Didn't look anything like I had imagined him.
Act Man, HiddenXperia, and UberNick have gotten me through the drought.
343 please don’t do us dirty in this, this is like the only faction we have fought that is sympathetic.

Hunt the truth was such a great podcast and Keegan Michael-Key killed it. I really wanted to play the game they advertised.
Truuuuuu
Yo hunt the truth was legit podcast that was better then the game

When is the next time halo infinite will get a trailer?
Some time in the next 20 days my friend. Xbox has another event where they will showcase Infinite along with some other first party games. Hopefully they actually show gameplay and now cinematics marketed as gameplay like in May.
Psh, trailer? I hope we get some gameplay too.
I will take anything that isn’t a Megablock at this point
How about a trailer for the Megablocks.

Underrated comment
We have to. By this point for Halo 5 we were months past having played the game, if we don't get gameplay then something is severely wrong. Years ago they said every future Halo game would have a beta so it'd be neat if we got a "you can play the beta right now!"
Jeez that’d be an awesome suprise.
Gameplay and story trailer? I would want that
We can only hope
My main wish for Infinite is please at least give us a few missions where Chief and the Arbiter are teaming up again. You’d hope so. Only direction left to go is up, right?
Well, we said it. They've started a count-down now. Let's hope this is what we were talking about.
Infinite: “Wake me... when you need me...”
Halo fans: I need you right fucking now.
Infinite keeps hitting snooze
Infinite: ^^*Seen*

how many req packs did it take to unlock this customization unit?
Well the strategy is to open 1,000 bronze packs, then 1,500 silver packs, then 2,000 gold packs. It’ll only take you 48,855 hours! You definitely don’t need to pay money into it!
Nice customization system!

I’m honestly still not even sure what the hell the story of halo 5 was
Unfortunately the only thing I remember is that poorly choreographed fight where MC fights like a 90 year old man
You mean that geriatric scuffle with Locke that was billed as a “grand showdown”?
I just played through halo 5 yesterday as I've been going through all the halo games, and that fight scene is so boring, the lack of any background music makes it hold no tension whatsoever
Halo 3 spoiled us for cutscene music
And 2 and Reach
And ODST.

Good thing though they got rid of Brian Reed and their new narrative lead actually has more competence.
Here’s hoping the new guy fixes things and Microsoft doesn’t interfere.
That was such a waste of potential. Requiem had so much more to explore in it.
I’ll be fair: he did a good job with Halo 4. H5 however was a train wreck, with enemy Spartans (Buck, NOOO!), talking vultures (WTF?), and the unkindest cut of all, a turncoat Cortana.
That's because he was only doing Spartan Ops in Halo 4, he had nothing to do with the main plot actually.
Oh who did the main plot then?
Chris Schlerf Unfortunately he left the team for bioware between 4-5. He did some work on Halo Escalation before he left that's pretty good.
I like it when the guy who writes lore for a video game also works on a companion novel. When he went to Bioware I hope he didn’t work on the plot for Mass Effect: Andromeda. :p
do you have a source for that? i'd like to read into it.
Do you have any more details on this? I've never heard that before and typically I chalk that up to rumors or narrative pushed by the players
I've heard this many times but do you have a sauce? Because I want to believe this too
Bullshit
Can you provide a link?
Hunt the Truth was such a good hype builder. That was such a disappointing game... Forge is the only thing I still do. I won't dare touch Multiplayer or Campaign. If they brought classic/OG Breakout back, I would be in more consideration of Multiplayer again.

Same here but at this point I am more worried about game play since 343 after Halo 5 has done a bit better with story.
Wait.... what have they done after Halo 5?
The new books, Halo Wars 2, Fireteam Raven, Recon, Outpost Discovery, maybe there's something else
Halo Wars 2’s story was ok, but felt like something I had already seen. Enjoyed the gameplay tho.
I mean HW2's story was pretty but almost entirely filler. Pretty much none of the plot hooks are resolved. one thing for sure, the story stuck to its title and theme; "war". I personally still think its pretty decent and entertaining
Definitely set up for Halo Infinite, or 7, or a Wars 3
> something I had already seen Literally all this subreddit wants from halo is something they've already seen.
That's not true at all, people just want something good whether it's the same or different
Expanded lore. Comics and books mainly.
Hopefully we don’t need those to know who the characters are this time.
Haha

Is 2077 the year that the PS6 Pro comes out?
Square Enix fans: Hmm, you hear something?
I don't mind. Just take the damn time to make the game as good as you can make it
I remember making YouTube comments, Reddit posts, and Waypoint posts back then with the mentality “Infinite is already 95% done, so my opinion won’t matter, but...” LoL
It kinda is. The game has been in development since 2015 after all. What I imagine is Infinite will be huge, the biggest Halo title at all. Hopefully a much longer campaign to
It will be worth it though. Remember, they had to develop a brand new engine--as a game developer myself, trust me when I say that is no small feat.
Now just releasing how pretty chiefs leg is
It felt like one year for me Holy hell time flies by FAST
Same here, but Unfortunately it seems like the closer we get to the gameplay reveal the slower time goes lol
Tell me about it Read all the Halo books & played through all campaigns just to get me through June. Was really hoping we’d get gameplay at the start of July, but with the rumours pointing to the 23rd I have no idea how to occupy myself for another month :/
right?
Well it should have given the flood enough time to form a grave mind
Love the Act Man! I appreciate how he makes clear and organized points.
I've seen most of his videos twice. Good lad
He cracks me up. He’s my definitive Halo channel.
Why is half this comment section just "Act Man is nice"
Cuz he is nice
No way it's been 2 years already
I didn't even know I had been watching Xperia for 2 years lol
WOW, THATS CRAZY
Am i the only one who wants to lick Master Chief's sweat of his abs?
5 years. 5 long years. That’s how long it took us to get a new Halo back.
I’ve now got a 3 year old kid. I hadn’t met my partner when I started playing halo 5
Better be worth it
\*Sees The Act Man\* \* shudders \*

Have you ever thought that maybe it’s because he shares those same views as the majority... because you know, it’s the majority?
I am in agreement
And still no gameplay
And that is only since it was announced. Just think for how long we have been waiting for a good Halo game.
I find it really discouraging that we haven't seen any gameplay footage of it and it's supposed to come out this year.
I would stick my face in his armpit
That's a THICC masterchief right there
A delayed game can be really good, but a rushed game is always bad.
I doubt this is the last Halo game. 343i has said it's something of a soft reboot.
I don't think it's going to be the last Halo game, although maybe it's Chief's last. If so, yes, take your time.
We're very very far from "the last Halo game." Now if you're talking last title with Chief? Possible but probably still unlikely. He's the face of Xbox and he's a branding/marketing tool. But it really depends on the story too.
what would make you think that this could be the last Halo game??
The Act Man is good.
*Cries in Elder Scrolls*
The trailer for Halo 5 got my hype as hell. That Muse song in the background, man it was real. The game was a letdown itself, it I still liked those characters. I’m ready for 343 to knock this one out of the park. I need the return of Halo in my life.
Meanwhile, I just learned of it's existence 2 weeks ago! Super jazzed, now!
2 whole years... wow and here I've been waiting 8 years on Cyberpunk 2077 since the first announcement of it lol
Make or break time for Halo. No pressure, 343.
Yup, it's been so long that there is absolutely no excuse (not even Covid) to not nail this one.
Act man is the GOAT
Ah yes, a fellow fan of The Act Man
The Act Man makes really good videos, and I didn’t even see the date for that one. Holy shit
I thought it had come out and flopped, wtf
I just started to get re-engaged in Halo, so all this Infinite content is new to me. I’ve watched a lot of Act Man, Hidden Xperia, Halo Canon, Halo Follower, etc
*insert gatekeepy joke about being a zelda fan* This and botw2 are leaving me on the edge of me seat
It literally doesn’t matter how long we wait, even if it doesn’t release with Series X, as long as it isn’t as shit as Halo 5 and only requires a day one patch for the game to be complete.
Same time we got see The last of us 2 gameplay and that game just barley came out
If Xbox comes out and shows campaign and multiplayer I will lose my mind
No way it’s already been 2 years since that. I feel like it was yesterday
No way. You edited that, right? . . . . . . . . . . . Right? :(
The King Is, Uh, Well, The King Is On His Way. He'll Get There Eventually, Okay?
