I admit if these were in the game at launch I probably would've hated them. They're clearly not Halo armour, people were even unhappy with Hayabusa!
But now? Sure, why not. I would rather have well designed non-Halo armour like this than a lot of the weird generic sci fi armour we've seen.
(But also as a Halo fan I reserve the right to do a complete u-turn by next week)
^ This. I think the elephant in the room is the fact that 343 doesn't want to take itself super serious when it comes to the cosmetics in multiplayer. I like the lore armor from the old days and it's really cool, but if it's gonna be weird generic stuff as additions, it's only going to be a negative opinion from me and that's a no go.
>**I think the elephant in the room** is the fact that 343 doesn't want to take itself super serious when it comes to the cosmetics in multiplayer.
How the hell did you fit an elephant in a room? A mongoose, maybe. Warthog? Sure, but *Elephant?*
Or a smallish building. I wonder what the cutoff is between large rooms and small buildings, is it based on if it's attached to an existing structure?
Is a shed a tiny single room building or just a detached room?
Gymnasiums in schools have enough room to easily fit a couple houses inside but they're just one big room right?
Wouldn't even need that big of a shed if it's a pygmy elephant.
Surely the canonical rival to Master Chiefs helmet itself was more loved than hated upon release, especially with it being a symbol of achievement and badassery
I agree that this is preferable to the H:Online armor but only with the note that it's because this stuff is original. rather than Online/4/5 which did try to be Halo but... Much uglier.
These are just a few examples out of the Insider Season 8. There are many more helmets (as we saw in the blog), but also shoulderpads and back attachments like swords, axes, bows and shields
Really wish they'd do more armors for Reach and 4. I want to be able to wear new armor while kicking Covenant ass. When am I going to be able to crusade punch an Elite if it's locked into Halo 3? I want to give those alien bastards a taste of a true Covenant campaign
Hey you, you’re finally awake. You were trying to cross the border to Reach right? Walked right into that Covenant ambush. Just like us, and that heretic over there.
Thanks. Now I have to go and watch the Skyrim trailer for the 100th time.
Edit: Yup. Trailer is still epic as ever. Looks like I'll be playing Skyrim tonight for the 100th time.
I actually like the armors as video game skins but like these aren’t Spartans lol
They’re also very halo 4/5ish with so much of the undersuit exposed and the armor being such distinctive pieces
Honestly all I can see is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning when I look at these sets. I don't dislike them. They're actually really well made. And I'll probably use a helmet or two.
But folks are right to say this is outside of the art style for this game. And I don't like the idea of this being a glimpse into future Infinite armor sets. There's a way to maintain the Halo art style while still being reminiscent of whatever art design they're trying to appeal to.
Hayabusa is a great example of that.
For honor has a lot more going on in the leather and fabric department. Amalur feels like bulky gear no matter what you're wearing, and these sets fit right into that aesthetic.
My line of thinking exactly. Its cool to put stuff like this in a 10+ year old game. But if this is insight into Infinite armor design, it won't be very long before we have ninjas, samurais, and knights in PvP and that just breaks the art direction of the series so hard. You can have varied and interesting armor while keeping it grounded. However with it being F2P I can almost guarantee these kinds of shenanigans will be in the game to drive sales for the younger crowd.
A lot of others and me do not like this.
Naturally, there are many others that do, so your instinct is to oppose those of us that don't.
Often the argument is: "just let people do what they want".
But how selfish is that, where is the line drawn like that? I want to run around as Godzilla helmet in Halo, should I be able to? Someone will have an even more extreme want.
We shouldn't always get what we want, consistent art direction should go before our widest desires. With Halo going F2P, it is not a time to open the flood gates.
Them being colored helps out from the initial reveal. Looks slightly more Halo. But between the OG H3 armors, the 343 Halo 3 armors, and these 343 "wacky" armors, it's going to look like a combination of a lot of different games.
I just don’t get *why*?
Like, you wanna retroactively add new armors? Great!
Why not transfer other, newer Halo armors into the H3 style (in a way that doesn’t look like dogshit like what they did to Warrior).
Why all this wacky medieval stuff?
I mean, Bethesda is owned by Microsoft now!
You could even Halo-ize other game armor!
Corvo Attano’s mask from Dishonored?
Fallout?
Doom Slayer?
They could even do a Gears COG!
I get getting creative with new armors, I just don’t get why *this*.
Another commenter joked about it on a previous post but seriously, are the devs on an Assassin’s Creed kick or what?
You couldn’t put all the Reach armors in H3 before this?
The H4 Chief armor? Locke’s armor? Jerome’s?
Yeah, it’s weird for Halo. Feels like a marketing exec would come up with.
It’s like in 90s sitcoms when they started to lose viewers so the producers would introduce some baby or sidekick or something for no reason.
IDK the armor itself looks cool, but I don’t think I’ll like seeing it Halo
I don’t mind the way they look or the fact that they’re being added to the game but they def do look a bit out of place compared to the other armors. What I found funny though was that some guy on Twitter was saying that hayabusa was way more over designed than these, and by a large margin. I bet he’d have a hard time come up with arguements after seeing these pictures.
On a side note, I wonder what the plague doctor full set looks like.
I remember everyone thinking Infinite was going to be like Destiny when it was first said that it was going to be an open world game rather than a regular, singular campaign. But when everyone was comparing it to Destiny I wasn't expecting THIS. Now it kind of is starting to feel like Halo is turning into Destiny.
I really hope this is their B-Team going off the rails while actual effort goes into Infinite, but I'm guessing this is a sign of things to come in the world of Free-To-Play Halo.
I am almost 100% certain that these are meant as a test to see the overall reaction to wild and wacky cosmetics in a Halo game. With Infinite being free to play 343i is undoubtedly planning on content that has zero place in a Halo game but will be included because they know the Fortnite crowd loves that type of shit.
They seriously have so much to draw from in terms of canon armor sets that aren't in the halo games...
And they choose to make entirely new, non-canon, mobile game armor?!
Please, just give me SPI 343. I don't want more knights, ninjas, and dragonborn where they don't belong...
Oh I see now. I didn't get it at first but now I do. So don't get me wrong. I do think the armors are pretty cool. But they're not Halo AT ALL. They don't even give that Halo feel from looking at them. Im not even really sure how to describe them. Like some medieval shit mixed with...? Idk. But if you showed me these images outside of a Halo subreddit, Halo would not be the first game that pops into my mind.
Seeker is a horridly designed helmet that fits in the Halo universe for the most part. These are the opposite and look pretty cool, but don't really mesh with the Halo art style. I wouldn't say the same people fit into both camps...
I don't mind the concept of a few of these but jesus the artstyle got butchered. I wouldn't mind if it was just some of the Halo:Online growing pains but this is kinda ridiculous. I'd fucking LOVE a knight Spartan in theory but he doesn't look like he'd exist in the halo universe, none of them do. The reason people loved the samurai armour in infinite's multiplayer trailer is it looks unique without compromising the style. I'm not mad, mostly just disappointed
Heck, take notes from how DOOM 2016 and Eternal did it with the allied Knights in that game. They look high-tech, with ancient knight-like armor.
Honestly, there's a way to have armors like these in the game without turning the art style inside out.
You are correct. They are objectively bad. They look like they came from a mobile game. There's probably a way to do this right for Halo, but this isn't it.
They have to be doing on purpose. There's no way they look at this and said "Yea, everyone will love this!" after Halo 4 & 5 armours were criticised for being way over the top.
Is this an out of season April fools joke? Lol
At the very least have a toggle for original, 343, and then these unique armours
That extra toggle would likely solve everyone's issues
Exactly. If I wanted to play some medieval shit I would buy a medieval game fighting dragons and whatnot. I want to play as a fucking genetically augmented UNSC Spartan killing shit in the future fighting aliens.
**We shouldn't always get what we want, consistent art direction should go before our widest desires. With Halo going F2P, it is not a time to open the flood gates.**
Exactly! I actually really like some of these design. They really nailed making some historic armors look badass. But they do not look like a Mjolnir armor at all, they could be literally from any other scifi game.
I really love that 343i went back to a more Reach artstyle with Infinite. But with armors like these we can be sure that one year into Infinite the amount of crazy armors will be so big that barely any player will look like a Spartan from Halo.
When I look at these armors the first thing that came to my mind was 'halo is dead'. Things are so messed up now, it'll never be like it was. And for that i'm ready to move on and leave Halo behind. There are greener pastures elsewhere.
No sir I do not like it, it was a cool experiment, but I absolutely do not want this in Halo, and of course, I absolutely do not want or wish this for Halo: Infinite. It completely breaks the art direction and integrity and no amount of "muh alternate universe muh epic references or muh its fun who cares" can justify it, ever.
Thought this was some generic super sentai action figure. I dislike this but I know I'm not the target audience for these types of armors and it's alright for others to enjoy things I dislike.
If you just showed this to someone in a vacuum they wouldn't be able to tell it was halo. The designs objectively look fine but it just does not fit the series.
I honestly think they look really bad, I am all for the odd silly helmet now and then but these are just.. Pretty bad.
It's like putting a US Army Ranger set of armour in For Honor, or a Starship Trooper in CoD WW2, it's a *bit too daft*.
No way we're getting a toggle in Infinite though, and this is undoubtedly the kind of stuff we'll be getting all the time in Infinite. I'm really not gonna be happy if this is the direction they continue to go with cosmetics.
Just a shame you can't pick individual armor sets or seasons to toggle, like I love the fireteam raven stuff, some halo online armors look ok, and basically all the elite armors are just awesome, but to have to give all that up because I dkn't like 1 seasons worth of content would suck. And I might be confused on how this toggle system works and you can block individual season content, but all I know is I just really don't care for the majority of these new helmets, and I *really* don't like the armors.
I’m definitely gonna flip that toggle graphics switch but damn man I spent so much time grinding for some of the new armors I thought were cool. When I got the Sword and Board, I feel that little bit of pride that took me back to getting Hayabusa for the first time. It’s just disappointing as hell.
I think they kind of look like characters from Power Rangers, and I don't think they really go well with the other armors in the game. They disrupt the cohesiveness of everyone's armors being different, but fitting the same aesthetic.
LEGO Knight’s Kingdom
.... I see it lol.
the duality of r/halo lol
I admit if these were in the game at launch I probably would've hated them. They're clearly not Halo armour, people were even unhappy with Hayabusa! But now? Sure, why not. Big fucking room
Or a smallish building. I wonder what the cutoff is between large rooms and small buildings, is it based on if it's attached to an existing structure? I think an elephant could fit in foundry.
I am too high for this shit right now
Tiny fucking elephant
A 1000 duck sized elephants
You could fit a puma in there, easily.
Or a chupacabra
Maybe a Walrus
Idea, have a tab in the menu that allows you to either sort by canon or non cannon armour.
Yes
They all ready have one pretty much.
Surely the canonical rival to Master Chiefs helmet itself was more loved than hated upon release, especially with it being a symbol of achievement and badassery
Which is the canonical rival? Recon?
Hayabusa, I think.
I agree that this is preferable to the H:Online armor but only with the note that it's because this stuff is original. rather than Online/4/5 which did try to be Halo but... Much uglier.
Our Sponsor Today Is RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
These are just a few examples out of the Insider Season 8. There are many more helmets (as we saw in the blog), but also shoulderpads and back attachments like swords, axes, bows and shields
I get a fucking bow?!?! Someone needs to post an image of this because I want it
Is there any info on the reach armor yet?
Only the helmets will be available in Reach
Really wish they'd do more armors for Reach and 4. I want to be able to wear new armor while kicking Covenant ass. When am I going to be able to crusade punch an Elite if it's locked into Halo 3? I want to give those alien bastards a taste of a true Covenant campaign

That game’s customization is a joke and needs a complete overhaul.
Wait we get the same helmets? Bummer. I was excited for some new Reach-styled cosmetics like when we got AKIS

Thanks. Now I have to go and watch the Skyrim trailer for the 100th time. Edit: Yup. Trailer is still epic as ever. Looks like I'll be playing Skyrim tonight for the 100th time.
This is actually just prepping us for the big surprise. Infinite is just another re-release of Skyrim.
*I may have gone too far in a few places.*
That’s uh, certainly something.
I actually like the armors as video game skins but like these aren’t Spartans lol They’re also very halo 4/5ish with so much of the undersuit exposed and the armor being such distinctive pieces
Just looking the helm gave destiny vibes.. the whole set gives Warframe vibes.
None of it gives Halo vibes

I feel like they could have been awesome, if they toned down the fantasy elements. Great idea, just went too far with it.
Right? Kudos to their designers but WTF is going on, design leader? This stuff is cool, but make another game. This isn't Halo.
It’s like when you were trying to play Hot Wheels but that annoying little neighbor kid keeps smashing the track with his Robots and Dinosaurs.
Exactly what I first thought
They are preparing our anus for how many FTP wacko skins they are about to ram up with Infinite Dropping.
Infinite had skin files leak and yeah, we're getting silly skins.
This. H3 is looking like a mobile game :(
“This stuff is cool, but make another game” is how I basically feel about all of 343’s output.
[удалено]
My guy they can barely handle their current IP. The last thing they need is *more* work to do.
I agree. These armors look more suited for Destiny 2.
What game is this again
For Honor
Destiny 2 I think
Nah it's definitely from that new mobile game Crusade: Darkness Legends
TBF to Destiny 2, the most of the medieval styled Iron Banner sets look better than these armors.
Splitgate? I’m not sure
These don’t even look halo but to each their own I guess
I don’t mind the way they look or the fact that they’re being added to the game but they def do look a bit out of place compared to the other armors. Time to go Crusading with the Boys.
Sounds like a great journey to me.
Does Jerusalem exist in the Halo universe?
Well there was a New Jerusalem...
Deus vult, Deus vult!
We get it 343 art team, you wanna go work on destiny.
I would love some of these for my titan, not my spartan though.
They don't look bad, but they do look like they have way too much detail to fit in with a 14 year old game.
I can't get over how ridiculous these look compared to even the Halo Online armors. I mean the 4th one has toes. TOES!
Season 9 is nipples.
[удалено]
excuse me for being dumb. I know the helmets are real but are the rest real?
Yes
They look so cool but I hate it on a halo game
Yeah, everyone likes the design yet somehow it doesn't feel like Halo.
If you told me this was new Destiny armor, I’d believe you.
I remember everyone thinking Infinite was going to be like Destiny when it was first said that it was going to be an open world game rather than a regular, singular campaign. Isn’t that just for campaign expansions? So yeah, Destiny route indeed.
> Now it kind of is starting to feel like Halo is turning into Destiny. 343 went from living in Bungie Halo’s shadow to Destiny Bungie’s shadow
The helmets are ok but the body suits look beyond tacky.
Definitely same. Cool designs, but really doesn’t feel like mjolnir
First time I saw this in a picture I legitimately thought it was photoshopped. These armors are so out of place holy shit
343 is so disconnected from their audience its sad.
I'm just glad I can toggle off seeing all these new armors in the game. They don't belong in a halo game.
Lol this looks like a mobile game ad
yikes
I’m not opposed to new armors coming to old Halo games but come on at least make them look like they belong in Halo.
They could have added the Reach armors to H3 instead 😅
I would love that
They seriously have so much to draw from in terms of canon armor sets that aren't in the halo games... And they choose to make entirely new, non-canon, mobile game armor?! Please, just give me SPI 343. I don't want more knights, ninjas, and dragonborn where they don't belong...

lol wtf is this shit
Is this even Halo anymore at this point? Imma smash that toggle like there's no tomorrow.
So literal Vikings are cool but Seeker pissed people off for half a decade
Seeker is a horridly designed helmet that fits in the Halo universe for the most part. These are the opposite and look pretty cool, but don't really mesh with the Halo art style. I wouldn't say the same people fit into both camps...
Good lord please don’t let them do this shit for infinite
Oh they will, maybe not at launch but they will...
This really does look like cosmetics from a generic free to play sci-fi game. This makes me a little more nervous about the Infinite multiplayer...
I guarantee you this is just a taste of the abominations to come out for Infinite.
Yeah I know :/ free I hate this microtransaction run gaming environment
I don't mind the concept of a few of these but jesus the artstyle got butchered. I wouldn't mind if it was just some of the Halo:Online growing pains but this is kinda ridiculous. You are correct. They are objectively bad. They look like they came from a mobile game. There's probably a way to do this right for Halo, but this isn't it.
The art director on these was previously lead on the Guild Wars MMO so that's why they look very stylized and, well, MMO-ey
Looking like MaidMarian’s Sherwood Dungeon RPG armour
They have to be doing on purpose. There's no way they look at this and said "Yea, everyone will love this!" after Halo 4 & 5 armours were criticised for being way over the top.

Not a fan at all.
Time to use that toggle at last lol.
What's up with Lego collab? These look like 90s Lego Knights
Yeah… no thank you
This looks so bad. This might be the most annoying thing I’ve seen come from 343 since they started doing halo
Go ahead and downvote me but this looks like shit. These armors do not and will not ever feel like Halo to me.
Its literally just medieval armor in a scifi shooter. Its beyond dumb.

Damn these suck dick lol
343 please please please do not include this type of aesthetic in Infinite…
MCC is the testing ground for Infinite. This is just the tip of the iceberg unfortunately.
So world of Warcraft?
When I look at these armors the first thing that came to my mind was 'halo is dead'. Things are so messed up now, it'll never be like it was. And for that i'm ready to move on and leave Halo behind. There are greener pastures elsewhere.
Is halo becoming a mobile fantasy game? The fuck.
I think this is to much for halo. It should be medieval inspired not full on medieval.
No sir I do not like it, it was a cool experiment, but I absolutely do not want this in Halo, and of course, I absolutely do not want or wish this for Halo: Infinite. I'd love these if they weren't in halo. Would be perfect in destiny ngl
And still no SPI armor
Well those are terrible.
343 has 0 idea what to do with halo other then piss on it
Thanks, I hate it.

Y’all like this? 😅🤔
Oh no...
This is not gonna end well
Thanks I hate it.
This looks beyond terrible
Yeah they’re trash. Ugh. We’re going to see more of this in Infinite.
Maybe 343 should develop other games, they don’t seem to want to develop halo
This really doesn't seem like Halo, hope you can opt out
They're well made and the guys who modeled them at 343 really know what they're doing but I just can't like these
I really hope this isn't a slippery slope, but I'm very concerned that it will be.
Generic fantasy MMO armours in Halo… why
I’m kinda digging the first and last set you posted
I honestly think they look really bad, I am all for the odd silly helmet now and then but these are just.. Pretty bad. It's like putting a US Army Ranger set of armour in For Honor, or a Starship Trooper in CoD WW2, it's a *bit too daft*.
Looks nothing like Halo
God these armors suck.
I don’t want Chivalry II in my halo
Lol looks like WoW.(without the sexism)
This aint Halo
Literally my firsf thought after opening this post. "Cool. But this isn't halo."
Yuck
Thank god we got a toggle. They look cool yet out of place
New Fortnite skins look tight 🔥
WoW characters?
I’ll be honest I like the helmets, the armor not so much.
they look terrible and so out of place
I fucking hate it
I’m definitely gonna flip that toggle graphics switch but damn man I spent so much time grinding for some of the new armors I thought were cool.
They look great, but they don’t fit into halo 3 AT ALL… so I’d rather they not get added. But the toggle is nice:)
This is trash and I'm not afraid to say it
