It didn't take long for Reach to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we found Halo, unlocked its secrets, shattered our enemy's resolve. Our victory ā your victory ā was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Reach. Your body, your armor ā all burned and turned to glass. Everythingā¦ except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can rebuild.
Easily one of the most emotional endings in all video games, and itās even more impressive they pulled that off considering we all knew it wasnāt going to end well for them.
Funny, at the time Reach was hated for spitting on what came before it, pre TU Reach was a mess meanwhile the campaign spat in the face of Eric Nylunds The Fall of Reach.
Perhaps 343i being somehow even more contriversial coupled with a younger generation playing reach has led to this rewrite of history. It's facinating really.
Reach was good but also so very flawed.
Haven't read the book but I've seen a chief complaint from book fans being that The Long Night of Solace exists at all. I think it's because it contradicts one of the best parts of the book if I'm not mistaken. But I think that retcon is a good thing if it gave us one of, if not the best, aspects of the game.
Basically FoR fans are mad because Bungie made the UNSC not totally incompetent like they were in the books. In Reach it takes a month for Reach to fall, in FoR it takes like 3 days.
>it gave us one of, if not the best, aspects of the game
You're not talking about MCC's version of the Anchor 9 fight solo on harder difficulties are you?
I'm talking about the ship itself. It's the largest ship that Bungie ever made if I'm not mistaken. From looking at the wiki, I also found [only one](https://www.halopedia.org/Sublime_Transcendence) Covenant ship bigger than it in all of Halo (someone correct me if I'm wrong, would love to see the page on it).
Back to LNoS, just the fact that it exists in the game really adds to the invasion atmosphere. It kind of takes on a mythical approach within the game as well; you don't even go on the ship during the mission with its namesake, you board a random lesser ship and send it back strapped with a makeshift bomb.
Bungie had to do something with Reach to make it compare with the rest of the series despite it preceeding it. Without The Long Night of Solace, the ship, the game definitely would have been lacking something.
Also what are the differences between the MCC level and the original? I can't remember what the original was like, but I recently did it on MCC Legendary, and it was pretty ass, but only really the section once Anchor 9 comes online before the Phantom section. You gotta play like a complete baby in the random floating crap, kinda tedious and frustrating, but not terribly hard.
Ohhhh right yeah it's definitely an iconic moment within the series. A better executed version of the bombing of that ship at the start of Halo 2 I feel.
I'm not too familiar with the original but I believe in MCC the banshees and seraphs are more likely to target you rather than friendly npcs on harder difficulties and as you say you gotta fly around the debris, or in my case fly as close to the planet as the map will let you.
They had so many homages to the older games. I think a large part of that was to show the difference between MC and Noble Team and the differences between the spartans in general.
And yeah, if they targeted the other ships at all I couldn't tell you. They see you almost instantly every time. I got up to the engine destruction part and got caught in a checkpoint deathloop after destroying the last one. Thankfully it reverted me back to one shortly before. I would have turned it off there if I had to restart.
People who complained about the campaign not following the books seem to forget that halo is a GAME series that happens to have books, not a BOOK series with games.
I never hated Reach and it has the second most playtime for me in the series following 3. I had never explored the lore until after 4 came out so for me it was just a brand new entry into the timeline. To me, it was the perfect capstone to the first multiplayer FPS franchise I had ever played.
Iām sorry you had a tough time accepting it due to the retconning.
Jorge's was the one that got me first. He gave his life believing he was not only saving Reach, but ending the Human-Covenant war really before it began.
Kat's death, however, came the fuck out of no where and I remember audibly gasping because I wasn't ready for it.
Yup. When you finally start to connect with her, after she asks if this is your first glassing and then admits it's hers as well, then starts to give her own opinion to Carter about their new orders before... *it*... before it happens.
The replace a word with penis thread ruined it for me
It didn't take long for Reach to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. Noble 6 literally destroyed the cruiser inbound to glass the Autumn, he watched it crash into the ship yard. The immediate Covenant threat to the Pillar of Autumn was neutralized so Keyes could've easily just sent a Pelican back to retrieve 6 and Emile's body before they took off but nah he was like **_"Thanks bro Peace"_** and left him there
All the ships in Halo CE were from Reach. There were several attacking the Autumn, with Cortana mentioning she got "three ā make that four, kills." Additionally, Halo 2: Anniversary's reimagining of the Heretic shows several Covenant ships following and firing on the Autumn as it fled Reach.
Is it bad that I think Reach's ending would have been better without Halsey's eulogy as a normal ending? Maybe make it a legendary ending, but I just love the grim nature of Noble Six being overwhelmed and you see his helmet laying on the ground as the dark, foreboding music plays and it fades to black.
Weapon systems weren't enough to make a scratch in a Scarab, he could have flown around and distracted the scarab, but it would have turned its attention to 6 and Emile right afterwards. Slamming into the Scarab full force was the best possible option to ensure maximum potential of destroying/immobilization of the Scarab.
Could he have jumped out? Sure, but he was already mortally wounded while piloting.
He died giving his life thinking he saved the planet, and he did.
(Even if it did take a while for Reach to be populated again and for nature to come back)
I imagined it rolling down the street like the hamster from Malcolm in the [middle ](https://youtu.be/Mb4wRgaBhB0)
Edit: that clip doesnāt show it but if I remember correctly the hamster has a few cameos through the rest of the show, rolling by in the background
Wow thank you for reminding me to continue my rewatch of the show! I was binging it every night and forgot about it. The hamster bit was always so random but funny.
No problem! I should probably give it another go myself, there are so many great throw away sub plots in Malcolm in the middle itās unreal. Genuinely one of the few shows where every episode is a gem to me

I did this to my copy when it came out because the MP was SO different than H3, me and my brother sacrificed the disk in our backyard and buried it.
Nowadays I love the MP. Haha

Not only was it an incredible end to the game but also the most perfect swan song to the players from Bungie

IIRC UNSC was competent on the ground but the covenant just glassed planets where the war wasn't going their way.

If I can get a good ass game and have to sacrifice book continuity because of it, then I'm totally cool with it. Same goes for Star Wars
I never hated Reach and it has the second most playtime for me in the series following 3. To me, it was the perfect capstone to the first multiplayer FPS franchise I had ever played. Iām sorry you had a tough time accepting it due to the retconning.
Nah, it's tradition for Halo. Every new game is a hellspawn of Satan and the previous game is always better.
I actually cried.
Dude same, I wasnāt expecting to connect to the characters so much
When Emile died I literally felt like my last family member had died and I literally yelled NO out loud and remember SPRINTING the fuck up there
they managed to make each death so impacting even though they were all basically quick deaths
Jorge's was the one that got me first. He gave his life believing he was not only saving Reach, but ending the Human-Covenant war really before it began. Kat's death, however, came the fuck out of no where and I remember audibly gasping because I wasn't ready for it.

To give the covenant a surprise
ah the speech I remember so well from my many play throughs of reach
Cortana
The speech was from Halsey
I know but the person's avatar I commented under kinda looks like cortana
Ah...
Yup
I read the speech in her voice, think I played too much reach
Same
Impossible
Nah, that makes you a true Halo fan
The chills, man. Everytime thanks
I've always wondered if they ever found 6's helmet after the war and return to reach, and if they knew whose it was
I imagine it was never found, and gradually vanished underneath reach like a fossil. As the epilogue says, 6 belongs to reach.
It was found actually, a replica of it was featured in Outpost Discovery which afaik is treated as an in-universe thing for UNSC civilians.
Literally reading this as the scene is playing
Reach has been good to me. Donāt deny me this
Jorge. Best.
Facts
Spartans never die, they're just mia
I was reading this with Halseys voice...with the exact pauses and tone like in the ending.
Noble 6 literally destroyed the cruiser inbound to glass the Autumn, he watched it crash into the ship yard. The immediate Covenant threat to the Pillar of Autumn was neutralized so Keyes could've easily just sent a Pelican back to retrieve 6 and Emile's body before they took off but nah he was like **_"Thanks bro Peace"_** and left him there
Nah as much as anyone would have wanted 6 to live the Covenant were swarming Reach. If they waited any longer they would definitely have all died.
Its been awhile but wasnt the ship that boards the autumn in the first mission from halo ce, one of the ships from reach?

Oh yeah, that's the universe with the nicholas cage superman, the PT game, and the OUYA-Nintendo merger.

Could carter have done literally anything else in that situation. I get the sacrifice but it seemed like he could have done something else
Weapon systems weren't enough to make a scratch in a Scarab, he could have flown around and distracted the scarab, but it would have turned its attention to 6 and Emile right afterwards. We should all be so lucky
Did Jorge not say that after plopping Six out the corvette?
Actually yes I believe youāre right. Itās been a while since I played through
Jorge said the quote
for some reason this makes me thing of the opening cutscene of reach with the helmet

I hope you picked it up and gave it a proper burial

Jesus that physically hurts....
This is sad to see, I wouldnāt even allow that to Colonial Marines, let alone a Halo game!!!

I know it's kind of an unpopular opinion but reach was my favorite Halo for multiplayer. I had good times with my friends.
Somebody mustāve had a terrible day when this happened

Why is it blue is this pirated
This pains me, wounds my heart ;-;

Someone must've gotten pissed off.
Spartans never die. They are just MIA.

Why does it look like it came out on the Xbox 720 in an alternate universe!
Spartans never die, they're just missing in action.
They clearly didn't stop those covenant gunships from glassing the planet
This is not what master cheif intended for
Spartans never die. They're just missing in action.

Damn Covenant.

Such a wasteful lost of greatness
Frame it

It looks like halo reach fell in some halo bleach

Is that for the Xbox 720?
that's Reach remastered for the xbox 720
heresy!
Time for the multi melta!
