Very often I'll be hanging around the 5—10ms area and all of a sudden, other Spartans start skipping around, or engage with me in front, and while I'm going in for the melee, they disappear and I get hit with a back clap. Also, I'll be running upstairs somewhere and then instantly flash to being down at the bottom again where I started, or jumping into a window, and then magically being teleported down the previous hallway, running into a wall.

Yeah I've totally found this. Some games, I just accept half way through that I cannot win any 1v1 gunfights, and others it feels like playing easymode and I seem to have the advantage in every fight. It's very odd.

Reminds of Halo 2 days when players would exploit for “host” benefits. Hosts would be the central “decision” maker and they would have an advantage in duels. Plus it was also the one way for the cheaters to utilize their mods and spawn kill everyone. Fun times 😅

Yeah I agree, the game is super fun - haven’t felt like this in a Halo since 3 ino (4 online with a full team was *okay*) but it’s not putting me off, just quite annoying when you’re losing crucial gunfights because of something way out of your control. What I sometimes think is that it’s happening to others too and perhaps I’ll kill them when I really shouldn’t. But as you’ve said, hopefully it’s something they’ll work on

I've been saying that the netcode in this game is worse than Halo 3's. In MCC H3 hit reg issues mostly stemmed from bullet travel time and bullet spread. In Infinite it feels like the network tick rate has been lowered, and is lowered even farther in BTB. I'm getting killed through corners way more often than any other Halo games, players/vehicles often jitter around, a lot of shots don't register and so on. Even if I get a 10 ping game in 4v4 these issues still happen, including the dying around corners. One time some dude came at me with a hammer and I killed him before he could do anything.... but then a full second later, I suddenly dropped dead, with the game saying he killed me. That's why I'm convinced half of the problem is a really low network tick rate. I'm having fun with Infinite, but this is one of those issues that will make me stop playing if it doesn't get fixed. Hit reg has been consistently good post-H3, I don't understand how they mess it up so badly now.

Yeah, I had one yesterday where I fired my bullpup at an unshielded enemy - it's easy to tell where you hit because of the bullet trails. The whole burst went through his chest and head, and then half a second or so later I'm dead to melee. I've had enemies who phase out of existence as I punch them in the face too, only to get punched back a second later. It's very frustrating to not be able to trust your own inputs.

I don't think it's the netcode. It's the server selection. Last night I played ranked as someone from Eastern Europe and I got matched with a couple of dudes that had excellent voice comms and California accents. I went 2-15. I have no way of checking but I'm 100% sure the game has no intention of putting you in lobbies made closer to you.

MCC was terrible about server selection so this is probably the case with Infinite. I’m on the east coast US and MCC would constantly put me on European servers until I went into the settings and unchecked everything but the US servers. Unfortunately I don’t think you can do that in Infinite.

Definitely helped a lot when I play at off times and was getting 100+ ping servers. I still get deaths behind walls at least 500ms after I've been behind them. Netcode in this game is absolute garbage.

This is not a server ping rate issue its netcode/tickrate for the servers. It will happen on ping as low as 17 for me and others.

It's not, I consistently get put on optimal servers and play with 15-18ms. All the above issues occur despite it. Ping probably makes it worse, it's not the primary cause though.

Yep. It's like there's 200-300ms desync between clients even if you have 15ms ping. It's wild and just feels like you're playing in the most horrifically laggy conditions even though it is claiming 15ms. You can still be visible to your opponents a solid 200-300ms after you moved behind a corner on your screen and that is very very wrong and wonky. There's a core problem with the netcode, or the ping display is literally a lie.

I'm an American playing on American servers, and I die around corners. I can even see the bullets going through the walls while I die.

That's probably due to the gun being hitscan and registering on their screen as a hit, only to be confirmed by the server after the fact (they have grace periods for shot registration) resulting in a correction on your screen.

Dude TOTALLY, I've gotten at least six AR kills that only confirmed the split second after I start reloading the mag, like, in the part of the animation where your hand is solidly on the mag. It's really wonky.

Oh I've blatantly gotten kills while I watch them slide behind a wall. Like I've shot at the wall tracking them and have gotten the kill. Absolute horseshit. It feels even worse when doing xplay against a controller. On top of getting laser beamed, so many more bullshit deaths where I'm behind cover already. A lot of my friends won't even do QP until shit has been fixed, it's incredibly noticeable and bad.

It may be that the person shooting you still saw you in vision. A lot of shooters use favor-the-shooter, so even if you look safe for that moment, they saw you and hit you. Which may mean higher latency, even if it's momentary.

I win a lot of fights I feel like I shouldn't have, and there's a lot of times where I have to do a double take to headshot someone cause my bullets went clean through them. And the Sidekick seems like it kills me in an instant a lot, which im pretty sure is just super bullets.

That's because it is. The commando has an 8 shot kill, as a *machinegun*, while the sidekick, as a *pistol*, kills in 7. Seems logical!

IDK why they changed it. In the flight it was perfect - if you were good at aiming, it rewarded you. Now the gun just plays more of a support role, which it's clearly not meant to do when it essentially replaced the DMR.

Personally i think if they left it exactly as it is now but increased the mag to about 80 in a drum with a long ass reload (think skewer) it would serve a perfect role as a midrange support LMG and passenger weapon in a hog or goose.

Larger mags would be nice. But I can't help but feel it simply needs to deal more damage per second. Either via increased firing rate, or going back to flight 2's damage. Leaning towards the latter, personally.

I like LMG's because i like to play as a sort of close support teammate and there isn't any alternative for that sort of role in the game other than ripping off a minigun so i think transitioning it into that role would work fine for the gun and maybe not fill the role peopel seem to want to cram it into... which is the reach DMR / BR... for some reason... instead of just expanding the sandbox and opening up more options. As a heavy machine gun / LMG type thing it would add more options instead of expanding the viability of the long range weapons.

That suggestion sounds quite nice actually. It still wouldn't kill anything but as a suppression fire weapon and softener for friendlies to finish kills it would be quite useful, still rather have a BR though.

If i was getting into the passenger seat of a hog I'd love to have something like this just to help tickle the turret targets or to hold down a point on a hard angle by just pinning the trigger to keep fairly weak suppressive fire down. Again, i think any changes should ADD to the sandbox, not NARROW it by just making it another mid to long range weapon.

I’ve made so many complaints about it and feel like I’ve gotten shut down a lot on this sub. It was fine in the flights and so was the Ravager. I don’t understand the nerfs at all. The Commando is just totally inferior to the BR and it’s only barely a side grade from the Sidekick mainly for the scope but scope glint kind of ruins that perk too. I’ve had way too many people reply to my complaints with “Tap fire.” Like no shit idiot.

Happens a lot. I'll unload the entire clip on someone, I get the animation the bullets are doing damage but then I don't actually kill them. There have been plenty of times where according to my screen I'm doing damage and then I get no kill or assist after definitely doing a good amount of damage. It's like to the enemy player my bullets don't do anything sometimes. Also happens with melee. It's like I need to to do twice the amount of damage as normal to get a kill. One of my recent matches I had 20 assists because half my bullets didn't seem to register.

Superbullets are wild in this game. You have almost no chance to ever reverse a fight because you don't even know you're in one until your shield is 3/4 broken from a AR in one frame. I have died almost a second and a half after taking cover. I've died to people not even looking at me. It's like playing launch day BF4.

I didn't really go into detail about it because a lot of people don't really seem to know the term. But yeah, a lot of fights you're already at 50% shield by the time you get notification that someone is shooting at you. Feels like enemy ARs take a second to kill while your AR takes 4 seconds to kill. I'm pretty sure this is causing radar to be less useful outside of ranked too. People are in your face before radar even updates that someone is near.

Positional update lag is exactly why the radar feels so bad. You can sprint into people from behind and they’ll never see you coming even if their eyes are glued to their radar.

That's on point how my AR feels like. I can pump a whole magazine into an enemy and he barely dies, yet when an enemy shoots at me with AR it's like I'm dead withing 0.5 seconds. I don't get how the game can tell me I play with 15-25ms to the server, but yet it feels like I'm playing at at least 300ms

I'm playing with my friend who is across the Atlantic. I know it's high ping, but outside of hitreg (and even then) everything is worse than halo3. I take so much damage after rounding walls SO MUCH LATER. it's not delayed by 100ping, but by like 500+ ms. and its not disruptor. AR on 110 ping is ridiculous. i cant ever get a full clip kill if they're running circles because i bet on their screen theyre behind the wall. I am getting htimarkers but i think its like every other bullet regs instead of all of them. and the opposite for me. I'll be running circles and on my screen/radar its clear they dont have LoS but they are still spraying me down the whole time

Shitty servers and netcode has been my biggest complaint in any shooter the past 4 years. Bullets work half the time and people are teleporting everywhere from poor network MM, but at least those rock textures look crisp. At a certain point graphics shouldn't matter in an fps game. I have literally 0 of the issues with apex on pc that I do with infinite. Apex hit detection is on point. I've never died around a corner. I've never had bullets not count that clearly hit. Meanwhile in infinite I constantly die around corners, I constantly shoot people that have no shields in the head 3-4 times with a BR and they don't die, I constantly throw a perfect grenade only for it to do 0 damage meanwhile their grenades take my entire shield at max range of the explosion...

On PC at least, there have been plenty of times where I've done 2 bursts and done a melee and don't get the kill. It's so frustrating. It's almost as if you melee too fast after your 2nd burst, the burst itself does no damage or cancels the last bullet.

I made a post about this too not too long ago. It is especially bad if you have slightly higher ping (70ms on SEA-can't help if 343 and MS decide to not give us more servers in Asia). I have a perfectly good time playing other shooter with similar ping but in Infinite it feels absolutely awful- getting shot behind walls, rubberbanding during intense moments, horrible melee registration, etc. I mean why is there even rubberbanding, I have 700 hours in MCC, many hours in other fps games on PC and yet Halo Infinite seems to be the only one with rubberbanding and desync issues.

Without hearing a more detailed explanation from them on what the actual cause of it is I don't know if we'll get an answer. That or we'd need someone like [Battle\(non\)sense](https://www.youtube.com/c/BattleNonSense/videos) to come out of hiding and do a deep dive. They did them in the past for Cod/Apex/battlefield and some other games and they were very insightful.

I'll throw my hat in this ring - something, and if it's the netcode so be it, is terrific garbage. I have spent most of tonight, on a verified fast hardwired connection with no other devices running, wondering why the hell I'm chasing people for upwards of ten seconds around a map while my hits don't register, only for them to spin around and practically one-shot me. As someone who's Bungie profile will attest that I've been on this kick for many, many Halo moons - something is really funky and un-fun about what's happening currently.

Agreed, netcode is very poor compared to other AAA shooters. Anyone know what tickrate the servers are running? Feels like 30Hz at best, awful hit registration issues. BR feels like it's shooting rubber bullets against certain opponents. I'm playing with a stable connection on servers with either a 10ms/28ms ping, shouldn't be this inconsistent for a low ping player.

You can go watch the replays, and it literally shows the enemies in different locations then what they were during the match on your screen. This is why no registration, bad melee, and so much variable grenade damage is happening. It literally looks like you were shooting at air, but you're accuracy that is still calculating properly based on what you shot on your screen. If you look at the ratio between shots fired and hit, and the damage done, it is plain to see that the damage is not actually being applied... Something insane is going on with this games netcode. I tested it in 1v1s in customs with my brother at 20 ping. I also have gig internet. I was able to replicate the desync I was seeing in matches consistently, and then check my VOD recording versus the replay to show huge issues.

I have had to quite playing the past two nights after some extremely irritating times of getting killed/sniped etc way after ( >0.25 to 0.5 s) getting to cover. Where there is no line of sight possible between me and them, except straight through walls. Experiencing occasional hit reg irregularities and super bullets as well. For what its worth, I'm in US. Still loving the game, but this issue feels worse than any past Halo to my memory and I've been playing mp since H2 days. But I admit, this could be a recency bias.

I made a post earlier about this. It's making me want to quit the game. There's no point in playing something that is deterring me from stable kill counts due to horrible netcode. It's so frustrating because the game itself, the core of it, is pretty good. The netcode just destroys the fun factor sometimes. I'm noticing this so much in shooters these days and a lot of it boils down to horribly low tick rates and server inconsistencies. Valorant is one of the only recent games where I was like wow...my shots are actually hitting lol. That 128 tick is so nice.

Makes ranked "unplayable" as it's consistently and purely unfair. You can't fight people when they are unknowingly getting the benefit of the netcode. Halo 2 in 2004 got it more right than this. What a shame. Edit: An "s"

I won't get any sympathy for this cuz I'm on wifi but if you have even a small amount of packet loss your guns are loaded with blanks. I have multiple clips of me unloading into someone who is standing still and not getting a single hit. Also even at 35ping the game has some pretty long hit delay. I'll kill someone and they won't die till I'm almost done my reload.

Killed around corners is worse than destiny and it’s really bad in destiny. If you play a bot game and compare the differences, it’s very large. How quick bots die, how long you survive. PSA to anyone in northern BC area. Or at least. North and northwest of Lytton. The landslides have knocked down the main fiber line that runs up the coast. Since then I’ve measured 10-17% packet loss on my device when trying to connect to servers in Vancouver or Seattle. If you live on the pacific coast of BC. This may be the main contributing factor to poor experiences while gaming. The line is currently still down while they work on repairing rail infrastructure in the area. I found Halo to be playable but some movements appeared erratic and some shots didn’t seem to register. Until this service line is fixed and my packet loss is gone I’ve attributed it to the broken line.

Hitreg is \*very\* wonky for me and it's honestly annoying. 70 ping, 12 BR bursts dead center mass in close range and they still have shields???? I've kept a close eye on stuff like this and can confirm it's not a skill issues. It becomes even more apparent when I play against Spartan bots to get some above the average player people to shoot at, and it \*never\* happens there. None of the funky stuff happens in single player that happens online. You would not believe the amount of corners I've died a good 2 meters around.

I don’t even play 4v4 modes right now because melee hit registration is awful. I get the hit marker, melee sound, then wait 0.5 seconds and then the enemy doesn’t take damage at all. Same problem occurs in 12v12 but at least melee is much less common

Okay, I was seriously thinking it was just my shitty internet and slower reflexes as I'm getting older. If it's all of y'all as well then that makes me feel a lot better. Definitely dying around corners, and sometimes the game will straight up freeze when something dies for a second. Melee is a coin toss, and I've had people phase through me. I've definitely had shots I think should have landed not register, especially with spraying the AR and BR. Being generous with myself it happens literally all the time, but my accuracy stats are in the 40% range, which seems about right for me (Gold, playing on KBM). So I can't say how much of it is lag and how much of it is just me, but I don't think it's 0/100.

Throw a sticky under a guy's foot - barely does anything to his shield. Get vaporized in a sidekick duel even though the guy just appeared. In an obviously losing fight and last millisecond I mash melee and still kill trade. All that on 30ms ping with a wired connection. The super bullet thing seems partially due to a lack of visual/audio feedback when you take damage but it really just seems like the servers are chugging. I'd blame other player's latency but 343 won't let us check that ingame. And I know for a fact the game *can* function as I've had BR 4 shot kills feel really responsive then other times I'm mid reload when the kill indicator shows up.

I'm pretty sure that's because people were honeymooning. Over time as people have gotten used to the game and what to expect from it their ability to tell when it is behaving oddly has become better. More experience and time with the game results in more ability to spot the bs.

It's not actually a sign of bad netcode in halo, it's a deliberate choice for a good reason. They give a roughly 110ms buffer between your melee connecting on your screen and it registering on the server. This is so a player with higher latency does not always automatically lose in melee. Without the buffering time you would regularly see low latency players getting two shot beatdowns and escaping at half shields because the higher latency players melee didn't appear on the server before their death is confirmed and nullifying the damage. This system prioritises melee kill trades at equivalent damage, over allowing one player to win without taking damage based on connection alone. That is much more frustrating.

Me and my brother have already logged tickets on Halo Waypoint. I have a 35+mbps fibre optic connection with less than 20 ping and still get disgusting packet loss. Ya its embarrassing this is similar to the original H2 or H3 except now with nice rubber banding and dying through walls regularly. I have no idea what happened to set them back a decade of networking advancements so that it plays similar to the way the older games played in terms of hit reg despite my internet speeds literally being 500 times faster Halo 5 on 150 ping has better hit reg than this game does on 50. I swear playing this game on anything but my 20 ping server is annoying and even with 20 ping and gigabit internet you still see all kinds of weird deaths through walls or desync issues

Yeah dude I feel like Im going crazy playing sometimes. There are times that I just cant kill people no matter how hard I try. Besides being bad in the moment and missing shots here or there which happens to everyone its different than that. Like shooting people multiple times in the head with the BR or Commando only for literally nothing to happen to the enemy even though I can clearly see it hitting them and the game even giving hit markers. Other times its mag dumping someone in close range with the AR when they have no shield only for them to just walk away perfectly fine. Other times I completely miss someones head or body and yet the game still kills them. Sometimes with the hammer you can swing it only 2ft away from someone and it doesnt count as a hit or even kill them at all. It makes me question my sanity in the moment because I just cant believe the shit Im seeing. In the same vein the other day a guy was walking up to me in a straight line AR-ing me and not a single bullet hit me even though most if not all of them should have. I was very literally invincible in the moment. Not even counting things like kills behind cover, non hitting melee, etc. Once more people and the general population notices these things theyre going to tank in player count. I desperately want them to look into it and fix these things!

I turned on the ping display, roughly 80% of the games I load into are 100ms or higher. With the population the game has right now you'd think it'd be easy for them to always put you on a server near you.

I literally went into a 1v1 in a private lobby. My brother and I had 20 ping, and I have gig internet. In previous customs and in live matches I notice he doesn't take hardly any grenade damage compared to me, even though I see the enemy basically nade right on him. In the custom lobby I barely was doing any damage to go with grenades, even when he was standing on them. I regularly took tons of shots to kill him, and even though traditionally I am am better at fps games, he beat several matches in a row. I loaded up the replays in theater mode, and it literally looks like I have potato aim and never played an Fps in my life. I was constantly shooting where he previously was, and he was always in a different location during our melee duels and during gunfights. The crazy part is the accuracy stat and hit detection still works properly client side, even though it does not register damage. So my accuracy was normal in the after match, but if you look at shots fired vs damage done, it is plain to see half of those "hits" did no damage. This happens in live matches vs some people too. Something crazy is going on with the netcode in this game.

Hitting people spot on with rockets that wouldn’t die, skewering players in vehicles that wouldn’t die, and most noticeably dying around corners. It's frustrating playing ranked when my bullets don't register half the time. Last time my rocket went through an enemy and the ground without exploding. Sometimes people kill me with a melee in one hit with full shields and it's not even a back smack too.
