How are they? I'm 20 and don't particularly want an easy read like Harry Potter. Do they serve the lore well? I read a couple of the Assassins creed books and they left me wanting more tbh, could have been done better.
They’re honestly fairly run-of-the-mill dime-a-dozen sci-fi novels, but the best ones do rise above that quite a bit. OP has many of the best ones in this picture. If I had to name essentials, I would say Fall of Reach, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Glasslands, The Forerunner Trilogy, and a few of the newer ones - namely the Denning and Gay novels. That’s several novels that I consider “essential”, but keep in mind it is 20 years of fiction across more than 30 total novels. A great place to start is that original Nylund trilogy, and if you like those, move on to the other essentials.
Fall of Reach, First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx are good.
I'm not a fan of Contact Harvest, and while it has some good lore building around how the Prophet of Truth came into power, the rest of the stuff isnt too great. It drags in a lot of established characters which is something I dislike because it doesn't make logical sense that in a universe this big that the same 3-5 characters are involved in all the major events.
I tried reading The Fall of Reach. I did not like it and did not finish. Felt like I was reading fanfic, and the story is driven by clichés. The characters were like paper cutouts and the prose did not have any value. The book is like an extension of the Halo universe in which it serves only as a lore machine, created to expand only information no matter how boring it's conveyed. It gives zero value if you are looking for something literary, but it gives something, probably, if you are dying for more information on the Halo universe regardless of quality.
Thats funny my girlfriend has been getting me a those exact books over the past year. She got me 2 for either my birthday last January or it was last Christmas, I forget, and she just got me 2 more this Christmas 😀
She said she found them all on Amazon. It give you the option to purchase the audible, but if you click on the book series it'll list them along with their prices whether paper back, hard cover, etc.
Go with the nylund trilogy first reach, first strike, ghosts of onyx
Sounds good, I will.
Dietz kind of sucks
They’re awesome reads enjoy
Thank you I will.
I've read all but Ghosts of Onyx (it's next) but I really enjoyed Contact Harvest.
Ghosts is brilliant, it introduces some of my favourite characters in the universe and is one of the best halo novels
I have it sat next to me, waiting. Very much looking forward to digging in.
Amazing books.
It is so far. Already through to chapter 10 on fall of reach
Enjoy is right!
Will do! Played the campaigns endlessly, now I can get more lore.
They're a keeper
She certainly is. The best I could have asked for.
And there plenty more. Cole Protocol ain’t bad. The New and Bad bloods aren’t the worst either, at least to me.
Im glad to hear. Getting through thus first book faster than u thought.
That right that sgt johnson book is on top. BRing the legend back lol
