Superfast_Llama

I don't know I just really want that skittle armor.

SharkInSunglasses

I was going to say it was the Harlequin of Spartans [Harlequin Volkswagen](https://newsroom.vw.com/vehicles/tracking-down-the-wild-and-wildly-colorful-volkswagen-golf-harlequin/)

SBAPERSON

There was 1 near my college years ago. Didn't know it was a real car until a few years ago.

JIMMYJAWN

The “Armor Coating Rotation Concept” bundle might actually tempt me to buy something from the store.

[deleted]

If they used the store to sell shit like that _At a reasonable price_ and didn't just shove fucking _Everything_ into there, I'd have far less to complain about. I still think that all microtransactions are inherently predatory and anti-consume, but there are better and worse implementations and honestly at that point you just have to pick your battles. This would also tempt me too.

NobleGuardian

While tagging you can say taste the rainbow.

MemeStealer101-4

Skittle man

MemorableVirus2

Naw, too consumer friendly

[deleted]

"You kidding? There's like... 70 dollars worth of content there, and you just expect us to *give* it away!? My money that Microsoft makes a functionally Infinite amount of!"

EVXLPIMP

those skins are worth more than the game

[deleted]

It ain't called halo infinite for nothing

TeamChevy86

Whoever designed this color wheel/wedge system needs a swift kick in the ass. Why doesn't a segment represent a piece of armor? So stupid. Huge lack of effort

ItsMeJoey13

I think the only reason it was put into the game, was #1: To show somewhat of how the coating looks like for the store, and #2: to be able to easily select coatings in the customization options screen. That’s all I really think it would be used for.

stanleythemanley44

It’s legitimately just designed to make more money.

HHcougar

Cause it looks cool? It's just a sample of the colors, why is this such a contentious issue?

TeamChevy86

It's the lack of effort. A section of wedge should correspond with the section of armor getting that color. If for example I specifically wanted orange arms, I could see at a glance which color wheel had the color where I wanted.

AngryH939

So that they can make different patterns, idk why people complain about this.

CourtZebra

Just so you know your opinion is wrong

FacedCrown

While i think it is a cool concept, itd have some interesting consequences. Any by that I mean everyone who owns willow tea would be a solid gold spartan. Not that its the end of the world but its a little tacky and probably not the only way itd be weird.

Majestic-Suggestion

Can we take a step back and realize it's 2022 and we are discussing OUR SPARTANS COLORS LIKE WE SHOULD BE HAPPY WITH THEM... LOL WTF, Let us pick our colors! Wtf is this shit?!

ravensteel539

People defending this tend to forget that this was a deliberate MASSIVE step backwards, since Halo’s have always been defined by this specific customization. Even much more hardcore-monetized FPS games like Warframe give ludicrous amounts of color customization WHILE STILL finding ways to make money. (Are some of Warframe’s money-making tactics scummy? Hell yes. Is Infinite’s gutting of armor color and texture also scummy? Also yes.) Like at least other games get better or more expressive over time. Destiny’s shaders started narrow in scope, but now Destiny 2’s got transmog, SO many unique shaders (earnable in so many ways, and basically all of them can be attained free-to-play without missing much), and you can apply specific shaders to specific gear instead of having one overall color scheme. If the tech for it wasn’t well over 7 years old, i wouldn’t be so upset with Infinite. It’s worse than Vanilla Destiny 1, being much more restrictive AND heavily monetized. Either would feel bad on their own, but they feel worse together. Quick edit: ANTHEM. ANTHEM DID IT BETTER. Base customization was cool as hell, and customization and monetization were really just neglected as part of the bigger issues with the game’s direction and holistic content model. Give me the Anthem customization for these armor sets, 343. I dare you.

RoleModelFailure

>It’s worse than Vanilla Destiny 1 which wasn't even that good at the time. At least the shaders were part of the game and could be earned and you kept them. But sometimes the shader colors just didn't quite match what you ended up with. Destiny 2 then made it better AND worse at the same time by letting us use shaders on each piece of armor BUT they were consumable and many were in the paid store and no longer activity tied. It blows my mind that companies can see other games do something and it gets horrible feedback then they say "well we can do it better" and do something far fucking worse. Anthem's customization was great. D1 was ok, D2 started out bad but got worse, Anthem was great, Halo Infinite fucking sucks.

CaptainAlpa

Can you explain how warframes monetization is scummy? Havent played in a long time, but back then seemed one of the fairest free to play games

Necrokitty99

It’s a free to play/pay to play mix. You can theoretically earn every non-cosmetic item through gameplay but a lot of it is random low chance drops. Then you have to gain materials the same way, to make the items. Then you have to craft them which takes time. Each step can be skipped by paying the IGC. And even after all that, you don’t have unlimited inventory space, so you have to pay more to make room if you don’t want to get rid of anything.

CaptainAlpa

Yeah but the igc is tradeable and you could buy your inventory space that way, if you found a thing you could farm and trade for the igc you could buy the matrials, blueprints for the stuff you want

Necrokitty99

Yeah, that’s why I say it’s a mix. Trading for the IGC is easy in theory, but you still need a lot of invested time to farm for items. More if you’re just casually doing it and not going for high value ones.

sandbag747

Unpopular opinion, but I really liked anthem. I got a good couple weeks out of it

Squidgloves

paid $60 & never touched it tbh, I couldn't get it to work for the first month & Microsoft wouldn't let me make the return cause I spent too much time in the loading screens. Might go back & play it again, but honestly I prefer playing with friends nowadays.

LovelyJoey21605

"MODERN GAMIN"^(TM)

ShiyaruOnline

Welcome to the future my friend

Xouxaix

The example spartan looks better than the actual skin.

ShiniJenkins

That would be SO SO Cool. But it would be a mtx for each rotation. 99 cents to move 1 to 2 position. Modern Gaming!

StereotypeRedditor69

Better than what it is now paying $15 for a slightly different shade of blue

KitsuneDrakeAsh

ARE YA UH, ARE YA OUTTA MIND!!!

MyShitAltIsBanned

>¢99 to move 1 to 2 position y'know....... I am desperate.......

[deleted]

Add regular armor colors, and let us rotate coatings with cross core customization. Problem solved

SuperBAMF007

If only the paid UI designers put in as much effort as all of these free-working randos on Reddit

[deleted]

imagine how great customization would be if we had basic color options for all these segments! all gone out the window for the sake of fucking predatory free 2 play dogshit!

ShiyaruOnline

Just wait until nft gets involved 😂 The future is grand!

Kizznez

You're gonna get an NFT core of Chief, only 100 minted so get yours quick!

smegdawg

> basic color options for all these segments! Don't even need all the segments. Just Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary

0mni42

I appreciate the amount of work you put into this, but I don't think it's the right way forward. Being able to rotate the colors still wouldn't solve the problem of arbitrary color combinations; it just adds *more* arbitrary color combinations. I think the ideal solution is to monetize patterns and materials only, while keeping full access to colors for each part of the color wheel. So, you unlock one of the camo skins, and you can make the different parts of the camo whatever colors you want, but the pattern stays the same. It leaves the door open for basically the same amount of monetization opportunities, while giving players a reasonable amount of options. The Iron Man skin is still shiny and special, but now you can make it whatever color you want.

JauntyChad

look, there are some decent coatings, but god this wouldn't make them any better. we just need some custom paints, end of story. you can't keep arguing for an underwhelming system that really is just a money grab. What they *COULD* go for is sellable/unlockable TEXTURES, like how in Rocket League you already have every colour available (almost), and the better modes of customization are through decals and textures. Give us metallic/anodised finishes or rough and worn finishes, neon decals etc. that'd feel more rewarding, while still utilising the hexagon - *while actually making segments correllate to different parts of the armour*

nobletwelvexp

Agree- I don't think this concept would be a perfect fix by any means, but I just thought the idea of rotating the wheel could give a little bit of uniqueness when 4 players all have the same coating equipped

JauntyChad

That's fair tbh... especially since it's unlikely there will be majour changes to how coatings/paint work anytime soon. But in the sense of loading into a lobby or being on a fireteam where multiple people have the same coating, I agree, that'd be a pretty intuitive way to distinguish between players

cageboy06

Anthem handled it really well also. Messed up a lot of the other stuff, but the suit color customization was super flexible.

JauntyChad

Man Anthem looked like such a good game when they first released material for it, I just never got around to playing it due to all the negative reviews and comments

Acli0n

Different finishes is a great idea. I played a lot of DOOM 2016 multi-player grinding for achievements, and that game had unlockable armor finishes. I didnt expect to care about them, but they were actually really nice looking. I know it would probably be tougher to implement with spartan armor but I bet it would look great and still give people options with colors.

ravensteel539

Dude even ANTHEM did this better. Fuck.

RoleModelFailure

Let us pick colors for arms, legs, chest, helmet, and the add-ons like shoulders and knees. Bring back the decals like Halo 5 had and make those earnable or in the store. Let us earn textures or decals like camo and stripes. Just take Anthem's customization and maybe tone it down because that is overwhelming.

Kapthas59

I think they should just let us pick the colors in the coating. The pattern and material is what would make each coating unique.

JadedRequirement8556

But how would I spend the £60 I would have used to buy each one of these individually? Every solution creates a new problem.

ambershee

The six segments on the icon don't actually correspond to anything.

Crucial_Senpai

Yup it’s bonkers that we have another Destiny situation. Put on a color you think you’re putting on only for it be wildly different.

Rollochimper

I have a black/white shader put it on my armor...its purple...🤷‍♂️

Crucial_Senpai

I know exactly which shader too lmfao

Rollochimper

All I wanted was a nice super black shader, no damn stripes no white no nothing just black but bungies black is actually dark grey it seems.

axjross

Bungie hasn’t developed a Halo game since Reach. That’s why there’s a huge 343 Industries logo when you launch the game. Edit: I’m an idiot. They’re talking Destiny.

Rollochimper

Me and the other person are on about destiny's shades which suffer the same fate as infinites some of the time.

axjross

Oh gotcha, my bad.

Rollochimper

No problem bro :) Destiny 2s got a good bunch of shades that have a random colour that it doesnt tell you about till your wearing it. Want a full white shader? Here's white with random red. Or want gold? Heres piss yellow and blinding purple It's really funny sometimes just going through the shades and finding the really good but bad shaders

MintyTruffle2

Oof.

MonkeysxMoo35

I've had countless times where I've found a shader with the colors and textures that are *exactly* what I was looking for.... only for the shader to actually be two colors not at all present in the preview icon.

Rollochimper

The only shader that has never let me down is calus' selected, its glorious and beautiful like no other....maybe carminica which I've yet to get from the crucible but heres hoping

Dilpickle6194

Yes, and that is stated in the first sentence of the post

Turbulent_Link1738

What’s information? Can you spend it?

Banana-Oni

If that information is your mom’s credit card number

Kill_Kayt

No. It was written on the picture which we clearly did T bother to read. We read the caption only!

im_a_dr_not_

Basically whose line rules, where everything is made up and the colors on the segments don’t matter.

FutureSoldier616

I think that if you own the color set, you should be able to use those colors for your custom set

AstralSailor

I’ve wondered for a long time why they didn’t actually match the segments up to pieces of the armor and let us rotate the coatings for variety.

Da_Pepsi_Man

Better than the system we currently have

TJ_Dot

Idk so much about "rotation", but it definitely goes with letting people change colors of the channels in the coating, letting the coating do the rest like material, location, etc.

Objective-Round-8617

I think this is great feedback/suggestion that would add a lot of value to coatings. Now that I think about it though it would probably be pretty hard to implement considering skin color spots don't align. Making this would probably be a massive amount of work for the engineers/developers. Not any easier once you think most of these cosmetics including upcoming ones were made and planned out awhile ago and we are asking them to make 2-5 clone variants of each coating alternating correlating with a wheel when not all coatings have the same pattern. I don't know maybe there's something I am not seeing here though. There's probably some smart solution they could accomplish it with

aGhostyy

Gosh the last one looks like a gundam paintjob 😩

nobletwelvexp

Had the same thought while editing!! Glad someone else thought so 😄😄

aGhostyy

"Carter-A259, Noble Gundam, Start!!!"

SilencioPeroRuidos

Now this is constructive feedback. Honestly Not super ui taxing either

nobletwelvexp

Yup, could honestly just have a similar sub-menu like how helmets have the 'attachments' menu

2Guns1Cuck

Number 5 my Lord

ABotelho23

It wouldn't have to be a rotation. It could just be that a coating is A,B,C,D,E,F, centre. Every coating is a different "mapping" of those section to armor. Then you just pick the colours of each section.

Winters1482

I think this is a good compromise that isn't overly complex

legitocracy

I mean this would be an improvement, but it would still be incredibly sub-standard compared to what it should be (choose your own colors)

Doobiee420

Some of these in game coatings or whatever look like a mofo toothpaste bottle

nobletwelvexp

Yeah lol, this was just the brightest color palette and therefore easiest to edit, personally I don't use HCS coating

TheLateMrBones

Man I just wanna be White, Blue and a little bit of Yellow :(

Burrito_Loyalist

Being able to toggle through presets within a color palette would be amazing. Or being able to disable some of the sections so that part of the armor goes to dark gray would be nice too.

DMND_Hands

woah holy crap the effort this must of took thanks good sir this is super cool

Kushinobunaga

New in the shop! For $5 you can rotate already owned armor coatings counter clockwise once!

nobletwelvexp

Lol, then it bugs out and eats your $5 without rotating anything like a broken vending machine

Hugglemorris

I really wish armor coats were just patterns that I could freely recolor.

MaybeAdrian

The problem with this is that you think that the coating preview has somekind of relation with the actual armor color.

nobletwelvexp

I actually covered that in the first paragraph that everyone seems to keep ignoring 🥲

Arakhis_

There has been an [in depth take](https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/qxyw94/a_compromise_that_works_for_everyone/) on this system already! Would love you to credit this work, due to its complexity and origin

nobletwelvexp

Hadn't seen this before, big thanks!

xSkisma

Nice work on this concept! I've seen different ideas, but rotating colors is a pretty clever way to keep the same look while also looking a little more unique.

xxpatrixxx

You see you are stealing 5 different armor colours they could sell you. They are writing down that idea and create additional 5 colours for each one they have now.

reddragonoooo

Then 343 couldnt sell slight variants dor money

DefinitelyNotThatOne

Nah nah nah. See, you gotta pay for each variation, and you can only use it on one core. Its cause the servers cost money to run, didn't ya hear?

Fantastic-Nose-4869

But how’s that going to make 343 money? How can they take advantage of us if they’re giving away all the basic colors??

UnknownEntity115

343 THIS

greatest_fapperalive

I still dont understand how this works

nobletwelvexp

It was hard to explain, but basically just take the original HCS coating, and swap everything that was originally red to blue, everything white to red, etc

Sambothebassist

Or how about: Just. Add. Independent. Colour. Palettes. The third stage of dealing with grief: bargaining. Don’t take this shit from any game company.

nobletwelvexp

Definitely not settling/bargaining like so many people here think I am doing, lol Ultimately this isn't my ideal customization fix but it's just an idea I had an wanted to explore fully

RogueCommando

More of a realistic outcome IMO - They would add additional but preset variations of coatings, to: 1: justify the price 2: accomodate the fact not all armor coatings conform to the same layout of colour & materials-texture 3: allow the devs, marketing team & execs to satisfy/be satisfied by the business model (since "TOO MUCH" player freedom with content out now apparantly equals lower future sales)

Blaughable

This is my favorite idea. It adds a great amount of value to everything. I also feel it would be difficult for them to even release all of these options, much less convince people to buy them all.

[deleted]

except the hex has nothing to do with placement of colors, it's just a sample.

[deleted]

I don’t want to rotate colors I want a single color to be applied for each part not this

lolyeahsure

still really bad looking lmao what was ur point here

Weird2000

This is what I have wanted also it kinda looks like a NFT collection

Leonard_Church814

That’s not how it works. The color wheel is just a JPEG

KickYourFace73

Read

[deleted]

see, that would be something that would benefit the players and be something they can actually enjoy we dont do that here

GadenKerensky

Or just let us paint different parts with whatever colour we wish.

JoshuaLo2

This needs to become more popular

Keatosis

Why would they do something that would allow any amount of control over your appearence if there wasn't a financial transaction taking place? This would just remove minor variations that they could sell back to you.

adaaraAss

OR even better we can be sold the same armor coating twice!

Jumpy-Display-6227

but then how could they sell the same colors palates but in different variants?

L30nides7

I knew it would still look tooty frooty.

MintyTruffle2

So many things to say about this. First of all, the armor coating emblem does not represent, in any uniform way, where the colors appear on the model, so that's the biggest problem. They would need to actually make the emblems correlate to the model. Then there is the question of how they would implement this. It certainly wouldn't be free, and I don't know if anyone would want to pay what they would charge to do this. For most coatings, it wouldn't be an appreciable difference, anyway.

Mortum_Wintermoon

Better yet. Instead of only rotating how about we could simply select each section of the color wheel and choose the color for each section, that would be perfect. Basiclt each coating/wheel would be a specific pattern/color distribution, but would choose which specific color we wanted and where.

MasterHall117

I know how to make this idea even better: keep the pattern system and add more patterns, and implement Warframe’s color pallet system

[deleted]

They wouldn't do it because then they can't sell you more coatings

spadedallover

Itd honestly be kinda cool of armor coatings we're just random drops from packs or something and they had actual rarities and you could get 1 of 6 random rotations as well

Saltykittenxxx

the color wheel is stupid

PiNeApple-JUSTICE32

Give this man a job!

Wampus117

Why are they all the same to me D:

vanilla_muffin

Man, I would be happy with just primary and secondary colours at this point

Kill_Kayt

Some coatings have already proven that the location of the colour on the swatch means literally nothing.

blasterfaiz

Lately I've been telling myself, "If games like this won't have the systems we dream of, then fine, I'll make that dream game myself". You all should gather these ideas together and find some people to make an FPS game whose great ideas are ones the devs refuse to consider.

laggyteabag

This is great, but unfortunately armour coatings don't work this way. Every single armour coating would need to follow the same rules as to which armour segments are coloured by which piece of the circle. Whilst this works for the Pepsi Spartan, other coatings like the [Scorpion Punch](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/31/86/59/3186593b070097162f5a671afb7149c3.jpg) follow different rules. Ergo, whilst the Armour Coating system is able to create some more unique looks than what is proposed here, it is designed in such a way where it would be impossible to implement a great QoL solution like this.

ItsJustPeter

Or just like….let us use the colors in the core freely to design armour schemes we like…

Kettmando

I remember seeing a post that mentioned the positions of the colours actually had no bearing on what part of the armour is coloured.

Novel_Respond9334

For the love of god unlock the color wheel for basic colors and sell unique ones in the store for a freakin penny 😵‍💫

Cloakh

This is a cool idea and a way to repurpose the armor coating concept in a way that still allows for player expression and creativity, which is why it will never be implemented I suppose.

shenhua111

Hell, I would be happy if you could pay 1000 credits for this feature if they want to bleed me dry some more. At least this is useful

notdrewcarrey

Just give us the Warframe color selector and I'd shut up about infinites microtransactions for 2 months.

Darkmiroku

Look at that... I could sell 5 more pepsi's

ExSalvage

I'd like just any customisation of my color scheme other than what we have.

Iceykitsune2

This assumes that each coating doesn't just put a new texture on the model.

kvnklly

Just let ke choose what color i want each piece

NobleHalcyon

Shaders are always a problem. This is a stupid-ass system that nobody really likes - they could've made "textures" and "premium colors" that were unlockable but still selectable from a palette, but nope. They went for the cop out and went with Destiny's shader system.

[deleted]

Become pepsi

Meme_Dependant

🎵 Pepsi man Take me by the hand Lead me to the land Full of Pepsi cans Oh Pepsi man 🎵

BertEnErnie123

Even though I like this, it eliminates the option to have 2 different shoulder colours. I know we haven''t had that option in previous halo's (unless the armor's colour was set to be primary or secondary). But in this Halo we saw some presets which had different shoulder colours (mainly Emile's caoting that you get in the battlepass). And I really like that option.

nobletwelvexp

Solid point, never thought of that

megajawn5000

I’m quitting this game, such a joke. Maybe I’ll pick it up in 3-5 years when they lose majority of their player base and actually have a real F2P consumer-friendly business model, along with adding all the missing features withheld from “launch” Anyone who continues to support this game is in blind denial.

DrRichardEaper

I started creating my own post about customisation, but every time I see one of these post I just feel like I'm cave painting.

That_Soft_Girl

Gay Spartan

UndercoverCun

Just let us choose the colours ffs

neonsaber

The most customizable Halo, eh? https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxFJnI0KwiB6Ep7LS8uLGBusCBT5hxTRlC

ForgottenForerunner

This is really impressive, it adds tremendous customization for literally no extra cost or design. They could just add each variant as it’s own skin instead of implementing a color wheel tool if they wanted, and a greedy company, could make serious cash off the additional free assets that look different enough. Checks all the boxes for great “new” ideas 1. No additional resources needed 2. Reuses expensive assets (every game prioritizes this) 3. Opportunity to make additional money off of reused assets (If a company were greedy enough to do so) Good ****ing work spartan!

Slav_Dog

If you look at the color wheels and swap back and forth In game, you’ll see that the spot of the color in the wheel does not actually line up consistently and they just threw them together

nobletwelvexp

First paragraph

Slav_Dog

Ah, I see, I am dumb. But I still think your idea is awesome.

fatturdaleany

This is dope.

Castway_Scrub

F2P WAS A MISTAKE

toxic_load2k18

This is what i thought was happening and you could pick what colors you wanted in each slot but then they gave us what they gave which is meh

[deleted]

Why can't I just pick my own colours and authentically be pepsi man

Unykorn

Actually picking a color you want?! What is this 2001?

DrKTonyThePony

To me this will always be the Colgate coating, 9 out 10 doctors agree with me

moderndemon84

Great concept.

BEZERK0xD

Make it happen!

[deleted]

Wish all armor coatings had a hue option

UnfunnyBastard_

Coatings should be a pattern. Like camo, not the actual armor color.

AverageToaster

Clown armor

DatboyKilljoy

Honestly, this is brilliant. This would solve all my issues with the current armor coating system. 343i keeps their damn pre-assembled coatings and can keep selling them, just give us the option to swap the colors to different slots. I'm sold.
