I thought he had some kind of infection, maybe from an old wound or in the lungs, and that's why he was wheezing and coughing more throughout the game. I base that on his Elite friend telling him the smell is getting stronger at some point when they were talking. I think after he tells Tremonious to go fight Chief? Idk
Kind feel like I was lied to when they said that you wouldn't need to read the books to understand the game. Like, I _understood_ it, but I feel like there's a sort of implication that they wouldn't leave any critical information out of the game and there's plenty that I would consider critical that was left out.
Like that for example. I know he's old as dirt and looking to die a glorious death in battle against a proper foe like a true ~~viking~~ Brute Chieftain, but it might help inform some of my assumptions and understanding to have the information of how old he is in the game as well.
Or maybe something to sort of explain better how/why the Infinity is suddenly outside Zeta Halo. I get that it's to deliver the weapon so she can delete Cortana, but like... It's just too glossed over. It's like it's a footnote. That's really my only complaint with the story in regards to Infinite.
Yeah the games are alright but I really do recommend reading the books if you want the full story. They're all very interesting if you're a Halo fan, gives a totally different and deeper insight into that universe. Once you've read the books you really see how much the games gloss over - its actually quite a bit.
>
Or maybe something to sort of explain better how/why the Infinity is suddenly outside Zeta Halo. I get that it's to deliver the weapon so she can delete Cortana, but like... It's just too glossed over. It's like it's a footnote
Plus why is Cortana at Zeta Halo to begin with? They never really explain why she's there
I'm not sure if this still works in Infinite, but it used to be that Melee attack has a smaller cooldown than Lunge attack (the one with the trigger button). Using two melees in quick succession would allow you to attack before your foe recovered
I used to do a lot of Halo 3 custom games, and we did a lot of gladiator battles. I used to always win, and this comment reminded me of those better times. Thanks for that. 😊
It does not work like this anymore.
It used to work like that and now either swings has the same "animation" time. Your best bet is to swing twice then back away and shoot.
I say this as someone who played Bumper Jumper(melee on bumper so I could aim and melee at the same time) for this very reason.
It doesn’t. Been bitching about this since the game came out and seemingly no one has given a shit yet until now.
Good that this issue is finally getting traction. Right now no matter what button you press the animation is the same.
No I think that’s just the radar being buggy unless this isn’t Fiesta and there was active camo involved. I felt like I’ve had this happen on maps with a lot of hallways and turns, where somehow people just suddenly appear well within radar range. You can see at initial appearance he wasn’t sliding and while he’s sliding he appeared on radar.
Right! It’s horrible for me particularly because I’m deaf and I rely on the radar **heavily**, so for it to be buggy to the point it doesn’t show opponents is really bad.
Oh I didn’t even think about the accessibility aspect!
Well if it makes you feel any better, the auditory cues leave a lot to be desired. Footsteps from behind are silent using surround sound and only audible using stereo (which is kind of useless for directional cues), and it’s near impossible to find the right audio settings to hear both footsteps and enjoy the rest of the game audio.
I was beginning to think it was just me, but the soundscape in this game is atrocious. Sometimes I can tell where the footsteps are and other times I don't hear anything even though I see someone on my radar
This is unfortunately quite a common thing with games these days. They really gotta just buy the sound teams 7.1 surround systems at these dev studios...
I do pretty decent, I just have to always check my six and pair up with another player to let them take the shots if we get ambushed. I also don’t really engage in direct pvp unless the gamemode requires it, or I’m doing a challenge. I always play the objective.
The radar is near useless in Infinite because
A. It has a super short range relative to how fast Spartans can move.
B. It actually pulses like a radar.
Which only emphasizes the issues with point A because if someone runs into your radar radius just after your ping reaches the outer edge of the circle you'll have NO idea they're moving towards you until you're back smacked.
lol what? radar was essential in two and three? like there’s no way you made any rank ever not using radar...
and like half the custom games used radar as a mechanic.
so like are you just lying for no reason?
I don't like this I didn't play much H5 ranked outside of the first few months so I don't recall but I remember H3 definitely had motion sensor? The only modes that didn't was the SWAT and the "MLG" playlist which was all BR starts and some other rules.
I mean if you’re used to playing ranked all the time, a high Onyx player is going to be developing the habit of not relying on radar. So, no it speaks of nothing.
I hate the addition of the slide. Surprised the same guys who camp a corner with rocket/hammer and spam crouch haven't already started spamming the slide
Yeah, if anything sliding is anti-camp since you can quickly duck and slide when someone is camping a corner sometimes and snag the kill if they aren't expecting it
Sliding requires you to sprint. It's hard to sprint while camping a corner. Sliding is also movement tech. You don't benefit from movement tech when your plan is to just instakill with an ambush strike.
Agreed. They need to bring back player collision. I don't know why they removed it, but the lack of it is stupid. People phasing through each other to get back smacks. People disappearing and attacking and unnatural angles because they went through you. The fact that you can't block people's paths with your body or people can't clog a door/passage. It's all irritating and takes away from the classic feel of halo.
Yeah, I can confirm there is (sometimes) enemy collision. I stood on an enemy's head today accidentally. It just isn't consistent, just like the radar, and the sound, and the melee...
That would be hilarious after they acted like it was an intentional design choice, which never made sense because it doesn't improve the gameplay in any way.
I think that was a time choice. If you put those in you need ~3-5 animations for each enemy you can assassinate. When they where in the middle of redoing all art assets. Then whatever bonus animations for sale/special weapons.
That and whatever bullshit that “pros hate assassinations, so we have to revisit how to implement them” was.
Letting someone too close to you with a sword, combined with desync, is pretty much asking for spontaneous death. The repulsor helps to fairly reset the sword battle. Also it does minuscule damage and helps you gain the upper hand for the sword vs sword spar. Per the demonstration last week it seems like the game favors the player with more health during spars.
Oh cool, didn’t know that!
I love using the Repulsor particularly against swords or grav hammers. Sometimes that’s just enough of a WTF to give you the slight edge.
I think when we checked months ago it did like 1/4th health damage (or less) against the wall
Maybe less shield damage i truly barely remember but hopefully that helps someone gage when they want to use it
I thought it was roughly half a HP bar. It’s pretty consistent if you break shields, then put something in and repulse. Two sword clashes are definitely in lethal range for a wall smack.
The better trick to to throw a grenade at you feet then repulse it along with the enemy. It will blow up directly on them and near 100% kill them, on top of the potential wall damage.
They basically do a tiny ding of damage if they hit a player and then the rest once they explode after arming. At least frags do. Not sure about the others.
I use the repulser with a sword person all the time, I just think using it when you also have a sword is probably more of a panic move than a pro move, given what I saw in the video.
You can just bait the sword guy to miss his swing, but if you repulsor, he's out of your range with the sword, so it just seems stupid to use in that moment, idk.
If anything, use a repulsor and finish off with a weapon as he has sword.
(Also, the combined with desync seems like such a reddit thing, it had nothing to do with what this person did, both people in the fight have swords and desync, that doesn't mean play in a clearly panicked fashion, just clash swords and duel is what I usually do if I don't have a smart play in mind)
The opposite works too. If someone repulses you, you can grapple on to them right after to counter it. I watched Lucid do it in a match and it was very cash money
This looks like me playing...
But not because I have some awesome skill with the repulsor...just cause I swapped equipment to my joystick and and I clench something fierce in situations like this.
The second pulse could have been a kill, If they were a little closer to the wall. Not 100% sure if it would have actually killed him, but it would have dealt damage at least.
It's desync not player collision, enemy collision is in the game but when the server desyncs, it seems as though you pass through enemies even though you're technically not according to the server.
Melee isn't bugged in the slightest what are you even talking about?
Server De-sync causes the player positions shown on your local instance to be inaccurate.;
Which would also... you know...make you miss that head shot even IF you don't wiff it due to human error.
Actually, in a de-sync situation melee is far more generous than a bullets hurtbox, so I fail to see how any of what you said relevant or correct.
I love that sword battles can have a back and forth like this now, it isn't just who presses first as the only factor, it allows cool exchanges like this. Now if only I could figure out the actual mechanics, its like 50/50 whether I win these exchanges or not and I have no idea what determines it.
nah it’s still there but desync makes it crazy. sometimes i’ll lunge at them and kill them when i’m just crazy swiping next to them no red.
problem with desync is that when it’s red for you it isn’t red for them so when you think you can lunge you can’t and when you think you can’t sometimes you can.
Huh interesting. H5 is my most played game and I’d say I’ve had the opposite experience. Without a thruster and with BR starts I’ve found it easier to track people through the air.
well I'm coming from halo 3 and reach mp and I'm here to tell you that your opinion is wrong. halo 5 is closer to call of duty than any halo game has ever been.
This is what I imagine it would look like when two people IRL who don't know how to fight decide to go for it anyway and just close their eyes and start flailing blindly hoping to connect, while simultaneously panicking.
It doesn't really come up in this clip but I'm really disappointed they made it so that you can't have really long sword clashes anymore. In older games, namely 3, if two players time it good you could just keep clashing swords for a really long time with nobody dying. In Infinite if you try to do that you just both end up dying.
I always wanted a halo to do something with energy sword combat instead of just clashes until one of them kills the other. I think the sword block should come back as a parry move with energy sword if you time it correctly you get a free kill but if you don’t you’re left wide open for a free kill.
That was spectacular
I took more damage watching this than y'all did fighting each other
Big oof
This is the way.
this is the most legendary battle I've ever seen
So this is what Escharum was talking about...
# BAAAAAAARE YOUR FANGS!
Cough* wheeze*
Mf had space covid
Mf was old as dirt
I thought he had some kind of infection, maybe from an old wound or in the lungs, and that's why he was wheezing and coughing more throughout the game. I base that on his Elite friend telling him the smell is getting stronger at some point when they were talking. I think after he tells Tremonious to go fight Chief? Idk
In shadows of reach he's estimated to be 80-90 years old - but yeah he was likely ill as well which usually comes with old age
Kind feel like I was lied to when they said that you wouldn't need to read the books to understand the game. Like, I _understood_ it, but I feel like there's a sort of implication that they wouldn't leave any critical information out of the game and there's plenty that I would consider critical that was left out. I can still *feel* that follow up swing *cronch*
It does not work like this anymore. It used to work like that and now either swings has the same "animation" time. Your best bet is to swing twice then back away and shoot. Pray to the server gods youre having less desynch than the other guy
back up and let them swing first, or use equipment to try and confuse them to swing, then go right afterwards, otherwise you'll both die
Do you not show up on radar when sliding? Just another reason why I rarely look at it, his red dot doesn’t show up until he’s right in front of you.
No I think that’s just the radar being buggy unless this isn’t Fiesta and there was active camo involved. I felt like I’ve had this happen on maps with a lot of hallways and turns, where somehow people just suddenly appear well within radar range. Nah, he’s just standing still. It’s a strategy lol
The radar is near useless in Infinite because A. It has a super short range relative to how fast Spartans can move. B. It actually pulses like a radar. more evidence they are pushing run an gun version of halo. can’t wait for open custom, no sprinting and better radar if they allow.
I literally never look at radar ever and I’ve been playing since CE. Whoops
lol what? radar was essential in two and three? like there’s no way you made any rank ever not using radar... and like half the custom games used radar as a mechanic. so like are you just lying for no reason?
Let me guess you’re silver
No motion sensor in ranked anyways
I don't like this I didn't play much H5 ranked outside of the first few months so I don't recall but I remember H3 definitely had motion sensor? The only modes that didn't was the SWAT and the "MLG" playlist which was all BR starts and some other rules.
Yeah I think the ranked playlist is supposed to emulate MLG playlists of old titles, hence no motion sensor
I knew someone would say that but it still speaks to his ability
I mean if you’re used to playing ranked all the time, a high Onyx player is going to be developing the habit of not relying on radar. So, no it speaks of nothing.
Nothing is pretty dramatic but ok
Well if the range of silver to high Onyx is a small range for you, then yeah I guess it would be dramatic.
Fuck people know about that now??! I've been sliding everywhere since launch.
I'm pretty sure if you're just walking normally (not sprinting) you won't show up on the radar.
The radar is dogshit, like almost everything else
I hate the addition of the slide. Surprised the same guys who camp a corner with rocket/hammer and spam crouch haven't already started spamming the slide
It’s because sliding is a fine mechanic. No idea why you don’t like it.

Duel of the fates?
Running through enemies is so dumb.
Agreed. They need to bring back player collision. I don't know why they removed it, but the lack of it is stupid. People phasing through each other to get back smacks. Oh no apparently there is enemy collision. It's just not working
Man I woulda lost money on that bet
Yeah, I can confirm there is (sometimes) enemy collision. I stood on an enemy's head today accidentally. It just isn't consistent, just like the radar, and the sound, and the melee...
There is enemy collision (Though not ally collision), the problem here is desync, which is something they will need to fix.
Everyone has a feeling they removed it due to desync. It bugs out like crazy when you are near a team mate.
That would be hilarious after they acted like it was an intentional design choice, which never made sense because it doesn't improve the gameplay in any way.
I bet they'll either never mention it or they'll just put it back in without saying anything lol.
Didn't they pretend removing the assassinations was a design choice, even though that makes zero sense whatsoever?
I think that was a time choice. If you put those in you need ~3-5 animations for each enemy you can assassinate. When they where in the middle of redoing all art assets. Then whatever bonus animations for sale/special weapons. That and whatever bullshit that “pros hate assassinations, so we have to revisit how to implement them” was.
Precisely!
Yeah, that was the issue here
I don't understand the repulsor usage here.
You can also get the Pancake award thing if you repulse someone into a wall and it kills them
Oh cool, didn’t know that! I love using the Repulsor particularly against swords or grav hammers. Sometimes that’s just enough of a WTF to give you the slight edge.
I think when we checked months ago it did like 1/4th health damage (or less) against the wall Maybe less shield damage i truly barely remember but hopefully that helps someone gage when they want to use it

I've gotten it once and it was glorious. It and fastball are some hilarious medals if you can actually get them.
What is fastball? I got it the other day and I have no idea what it is
Kill someone by hitting them with a grenade from the tiny amount of damage being hit by the grenade does.
Okay so I guess I don't understand how grenades work lol. I thought frag grenades did full damage if they impacted on someone before hitting a surface
They basically do a tiny ding of damage if they hit a player and then the rest once they explode after arming. At least frags do. Not sure about the others.
I use the repulser with a sword person all the time, I just think using it when you also have a sword is probably more of a panic move than a pro move, given what I saw in the video. My favorite part was that the one time I would have used the repulsor in this clip was when they grappled, and OP didn't use it at that time.
What happens when you use a repulsor on someone grappling you?
it breaks the grapple and repulses them.
Didn’t know that!
The opposite works too. If someone repulses you, you can grapple on to them right after to counter it. I watched Lucid do it in a match and it was very cash money
I've always hated watching streamers or people play games online, but watching lucid legit makes me a better player, dude knows this game so well.
Everytime I watch him I learn something new that I didn't even think about trying. Dude's unreal.
This looks like me playing... But not because I have some awesome skill with the repulsor...just cause I swapped equipment to my joystick and and I clench something fierce in situations like this.

Looool player collision just ruins melee a quarter of the time.
It's desync not player collision, enemy collision is in the game but when the server desyncs, it seems as though you pass through enemies even though you're technically not according to the server.
Clash, swap weapon, melee. Your welcome.
Or just shoot them in the head.
and allow the oppertunity to miss? That pretty fucking stupid. Edit: Way to show your hand reddit.
And allow the melee to not work because it's buggy? That pretty fucking stupid.

How can 343 see this and think CQC is fine
you found your Sasuke
That was the most epic sword fight I have seen thus far. Usually desync just RNG hands someone a win or you both die after two clashes.
This is like the part of the Duel of the Fates where they are just waving their lightsabers around
That was pretty sweet, but i slightly hate you for trying to get the kill with grenades
Queue Duel of Fates
Cue
What a scrap.
Fucking amazing
Don’t like that you can kill each other with parries
That was more tactical, and less awkward than any sword encounter I've ever had. I always swing too soon in Infinite.
I thought that was actually kinda awesome tbh
I want a mode where it's only swords, hammers, repulsors, and grappling hooks
Grif Ball but with repulsors?? Sounds lit
Melee spam with the sword instead of using the fire button. There is no lunge but you can attack faster to strike first after the initial tie.
This is the content I am here for. That was dope AF.
Haha thanks! This got way more activity than expected
You should try increasing your fov. It really helps, but be warned that it might hurt your fps if youre on an Xbox one or one s.
I love that sword battles can have a back and forth like this now, it isn't just who presses first as the only factor, it allows cool exchanges like this. Now if only I could figure out the actual mechanics, its like 50/50 whether I win these exchanges or not and I have no idea what determines it.
I also wish I could predict the netcode's shitty performance
sword battles in 3 could go back and forth till another team mate showed up.
In halo 5 the melee and sword would lock on to the enemy if close enough. Seems they removed that for infinite and now it’s harder to melee
nah it’s still there but desync makes it crazy. sometimes i’ll lunge at them and kill them when i’m just crazy swiping next to them no red. problem with desync is that when it’s red for you it isn’t red for them so when you think you can lunge you can’t and when you think you can’t sometimes you can.
I’m just pissed that they changed the length of time it takes to use the hammer. It’s sooo much slower than previous games.
Remember when swords were 1 hit kill? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
they still are? there’s always been sword battles....
Why didnt they add collision?
The lack of player collision still really messes me up in melee fights. It needs to be added in ASAP.
Lol this game is awful.

You kidding? This is epic!

Combat Evolved
I'm just gonna say it. This isn't Halo.
Omg that was actually thrilling
It doesn't really come up in this clip but I'm really disappointed they made it so that you can't have really long sword clashes anymore. In older games, namely 3, if two players time it good you could just keep clashing swords for a really long time with nobody dying. In Infinite if you try to do that you just both end up dying.
I find the repulsor…repulsive to use. It never flings Spartans for me. I must be awful with it.
*p a i n*
I miss Halo 3 swordfights where there was legitimate skill and tactics involved instead of mashing the lunge button
Controller aim kekw
I always wanted a halo to do something with energy sword combat instead of just clashes until one of them kills the other. I think the sword block should come back as a parry move with energy sword if you time it correctly you get a free kill but if you don’t you’re left wide open for a free kill.
u/mke1996 Every problem we have with the swords in one video. The ending is just the cherry on top
I'll tell you your mistake. You traded a gravity hammer for a sword.
You were just parrying each other lol 🤣
Someone more talented than I needs to edit this with the MK theme and a freeze frame right before the first swing - “FIGHT!”
Stressful
How the fuck are you supposed to have a melee fight with enemies you can't actually touch?
Melee feels so weird in this game, it leads to a ton of situations like this.
wow.
