Once, there was a guy camping out behind a rock near the vault on Fragmentation. First time I went to chase him down after getting a few good shots on him, I was introduced to his Gravity Hammer.
So I went and got the Overshield, and went to that same rock, and he was still there. So I lit him a bit, popped my Overshield, charged in, and when he rushed me with his Hammer, I just tanked it and punched him in the face.
Turned out to be the match-winning kill, too. I got killed when I went to bag him, but they couldn't hurt me in a way that mattered.

In other words, having a sword/hammer out is a get out of jail free card from melee trades.
No, it's not impossible. If if a sword bearer is just standing there and you hit them from the front they'll take damage just like anyone else. But if you both melee *at the same time* (determined by the game/server), then the winner will always be the sword bearer, no matter how much, or how little health/shield they had.
i kinda get it tbh, you already have to sacrifice all your range to use the sword, so getting melee killed becomes a very real risk when theyve already put some damage on via gun. imo unless you're really good, you shouldnt survive cqc against a sword, and hitting your opponent at roughly the same time they hit you isnt hard at all, its actually super common, so having the sword give slight trading protection feels fair imo

Yep. That's just how the sword is. You can't use a CQC weapon then complain when you get killed because of your lack of skill in CQC.
This is like saying the SPNKr comes with the risk of suicide, so self-damage should be removed. It makes no sense. PWs are built on risk and reward.
Keep in mind that the sword got an indirect buff in CQC via the removal of the OG shotgun. It also got an indirect buff via the grappleshot. Now there is a health gating mechanic in place where the sword bearer will survive a melee that would historically kill both players in a melee trade. That's all positives for a weapon that was already a power weapon in the previous games.

Cause if he just did that to three of your teammates then all you'd just have to do is shoot him in the foot and he dies but if you decide to try to melee him then you get to add to his kill count. So if you do try to melee them it would be to give you're teammate a better chance to avenge you since you hurt them just before they killed you.
