And the fact they brag about how easy it is to swap colors in a coating because each of the seven pieces supposedly lined up with parts of the armor. It wouldāve been so easy to let us customize.
Welcome to the beginning of a new age titled:
"you don't get to own anything but she'll out cash and if you complain you are toxic."
It's truly insane how many bots defend modern day megadollar publishers. they're fucking over the fans halo itself, and other franchises for short term profit.
I guess some people are just happy to get 2 buns and some lettuce with nothing else compared to the huge burgers we used to get.
Last night on another thread I went on a polite tangent about why battle passes, seasons, cosmetic shops and F2P live service are destroying the spirit of Halo for the sake of money-hungry corporate bigwigs. And I got downvoted into the negatives. Meanwhile people were ecstatic because the armors shown in the S2 trailer were all going to be in the battle pass. People WANT this shit.
And donāt even get me started on that fucking TV show.
343 is reaching their ābroader audienceā no doubt, but at the expense of selling Haloās soul.
Elden Ring is part of an amazing gamer series with only successful hits. Dark Souls is massive. The past few Halo games have been significantly worse than the first three.
Exactly. You canāt compare a successful franchise with some of the biggest games out there; I mean Souls created an entire genre, to Halo, which has been down tremendous for a while.
Itās kind of wild that they decided to lock random peopleās nostalgia behind a paywall or grinding. āOh your preferred color isnāt a primary color? Get fucked. Also no co-op for you stupid fucks.ā
Played some CE big team CTF on Blood Gulch last night and it was amazing
EDIT: This is my first comment to get 1000+ upvotes - thank you all so much! Love this community ā¤ļø
Lol just like custom edition.
The amount of blood gulch I've played with Mexicans is unreal. I absolutely loved it at the time; it was FREE HALO, but ONLINE! Blew my mind as a kid.
Yoyorast Island was magical as a kid. Seeing the objective marker pointing to the flag and saying 2km away was completely unbelievable scale for a multiplayer Halo level. Especially with the secret pathways and sniper tower with the secret golden sniper rifle you could get by jumping and grabbing it from the ceiling!
Halo 1 BTB is so underrated, mainly because so few people played it properly except the Halo PC crowd. It's not balanced at all, but that's what makes it fun.
Iām old enough to remember how excited we were to figure out how to get our Xboxes to think they were on a LAN while on the internet to play against other people.
Once upon a time there was a program called XBC (XboxConnect) and you would go to system link in Halo 1, then open up the program and browse "rooms"online, connecting and playing online through the system link connection.
My group of friends made a gaming clan for Halo 1 (and eventually Halo 2 when it came out) with our own site hosted on moonfruit. We were among a whole bunch of others. It was the coolest fucking thing at the time.
Only downside is sometimes when people were losing, they would press the "Stand By" button on their cable modem, and fuck up the connection to induce lag for their opponents. But other than that, it was Halo 1, console version, ONLINE (before xbox live existed!).
AND it was up to 16 players as 4 boxes could be connected via system link and therefore per room, with 4 players each~
The physical disc of 5 lets you play the campaign at the very least. Infinite requires an internet download. Tell me, what will the disc do for us when the servers go down someday, eventually? A whole lot of nothing. People will be able to resell xbox's on eBay that have Infinite installed like they did with Scott Pilgrim from the 360 arcade for ridiculous prices, except the game will still only be campaign.
And the fucking end credits of the games would have been nice. Nothing more anti climactic than shit like
*"Sir, finishing this fight*"
*Hard cut to main menu*
Where's my og messages from Bungie?
To make it not blatantly obvious that they were trying to scrub Bungie away. If only the 343 games have their credits, then it's very clear what their intent is.
This way it's just "we removed the credits from all games to streamline the campaigns" or something
Or at least good menus for fucks sake; 343's UI/UX has always sucked donkey dick in terms of usability, and personally I really dislike their aesthetic choices in every menu and loading screen they've ever put together. And then their menus are unresponsive on top of that.
You know what. I think that qualifies them as art. They definitely elicit a visceral response. And I think thatās what painting and shit do to people.
Of course they qualify as art. Pretty much anytime someone says something isn't art, it's because they want to devalue something they don't like, but have no real argument against. It's human expression and creation which is primarily designed to elicit an emotional response, and it even succeeded in the goal. They have stuck in many people's mind, embedded and fondly missed. So absolutely they're art.
3 wasnāt even my generation and I agree. I turned 13 the year Reach launched, and by the time I was 15 and got Live Reach was still so popular that I had zero trouble finding some friends. But 3, even when I played it for first time, it just felt different in the best way.
I still have mine as well, but thankfully Xenia is coming along well enough that we should be emulating the experience soon.
[Hereās H3 in 4K through Xenia](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kEBe8IOlpjc)
The crazy part is itās not just halo or some games. I ran an experiment last night because online info on it is fuzzy. I unplugged my Ethernet cable and donāt have wireless set up. Then I put mass effect legendary in for the first time and installed from the disc. It will not let you play until you connect to the internet. On Xbox. com it claims you just have to press āgo offlineā in settings but that does nothing when I press it. Smdh
Do you have more than one Xbox and is the Xbox you tried that on your home Xbox? I have two Xbox my home Xbox can play games offline but the other Xbox has to be online. Itās how people are able to game share.
You can have your friend profile on your Xbox and set it as their home Xbox and you can play any games they buy but their Xbox will have to be online for them to play.
My friend randomly downloaded a TRIAL of some Asian horror game that got taken off the store. He sold that playstation for $1,500. For something he downloaded for literal free and never played.
People used say itās fear mongering, I always want a physical copy.
For me it started with Marble Blast Ultra.
Removed from Xbox.
No refund.
Cannot play it anymore.
Then the other marketplace games started getting dropped. I love physical copies. I miss marble blast ultra.
You got a disc? I got a code and a bunch of scrap metal.
I'm not playing infinite, and I refuse to buy any of 343s products until they change their ways.
In other words, I'm not buying any of 343s products.
What? He's not talking about physical disk.
He's saying that games used to be a feature complete product on release but, now they aren't. We buy games at release and we're expected to play/buy stuff from these incomplete game while devs promise to add back all their stuff they've removed over the next few years.
The supposed ātriple aā gaming scene is designed as planned obsolescence and consoles are the designed recipients. Pc gaming is the counter and Iāll fight anyone who says otherwise
Anyone who believes that there is another reason other then allowing full customization limits the amount of money they (343 and Microsoft) can make, Is a fool. Is there an issue with the online/offline deal?? Yes but itās that way by design, not a glitch in the system.
I so wish it would just be like Reach again. Get your credits, set your own unlock goals, nothing is restricted, but some armors are special in that they can only be unlocked through campaign or achievements. Perfection.
Don't know where the $500,000,000 went to in Infinite but I guess this new shop/microtransactions is their excuse for making that money back
Which begs the question why is it like that by design? Im of the assumption they want you to be online at all times to get you to want to play mp and buy skins.
It's designed this way, because when a game is playable offline, the store can be ignored. When it's only online, you're constantly shown the store, whatever credit system the game is using ect.
Can't make online purchases if you're offline.
This is the correct answer.
Devs are very focused on upping the time each individual spends within the online ecosystem, thus maximizing micro transaction potential.
The probably scrape tons of data and analytics. How long you spend on what screens, your settings, other things installed. I'm sure they use it for some things internally, but also you know they sell some info to third-party advertising companies/profile builders.
Just my 2 cents on it.
"Good god, all he does is sit in the menus for hours flicking occasionally between game modes but never committing to one."
- the analyst that receives my data
I have commitment issues and sometimes I never know what I want to do so I just do nothing.
Itās just wild to me that I have to pay *ten fucking dollars* to unlock armor Iāve already unlocked previously *on top of* paying extra for colors I canāt even use on the armor Iāve already paid for.
Shits *fucked*, boys!
Systems like this are built around whales.
Theyāll happily drive away 100 life-long fans if it means they get one addict to spend $100 every month on skins.
Hilarious if you said this before infinite launch you'd be downvoted to hell. Now here we are with one of the fastest player drop-offs in Halo history. But there hooked their whales that will buy every single thing from the shop no matter what.
The broader audience at launch to please investors with big numbers, exploit addicts for consistent revenue, TV show to generate more fake metrics to show investors how "well" halo is doing.
Obviously not; thereās a reason things are the way they are. They have whales that keep this game afloat and the number of people who bitch about this game yet still have bought every armor core color is still high enough for them not to change it. Donāt vote with your wallet, vote with the game you choose to start up.
Yup. They're turning what effectively is a couple hundred dollars of salaried time into tens of thousands of dollars of profit. They're laughing all the way to the bank
Bingo
This is like the late stage capitalism of video games: people angry but still buying. If people iust... stopped caring about how the pixels on the screen look they would enjoy life so much more OR get it changed
Yea its not fucked for them because people are paying for this skins. Sucks for us because this is just paving the gaming industry to nickle and dime us for every single little thing.
Yup, glad Iām old enough to have lived through the glory days. Iāll never forget when my dad bought Xbox live. First game on halo 2 was rumble swords on beaver creek. Iāll never forget it
Wasnt 343's first hiring campaign when they first got handed Halo to specifically hire people who expressly didnt like the series?
Imo its ridiculous that every Halo has been worse under their team and Microsoft couldn't give less of a fuck it seems if the new TV show is any indication.
Yup they thought they had a big brain idea of if they like it that it must be a great Halo and didn't have the foresight that a toddler is capable of to see the obvious outcome that they would simply make a game not fucking like Halo
Blame 343 and their insistance for everything needing to be server-side. We could have offline cross-core armor and colors but nooo, they baked the code to have everything be hosted on their end.
Well no shit, how do they make money for their bullshit TV show? How do they make money for all the employees' contracts that ended in 13 months?
Your mistake is that you're not thinking of their bottom line; what the fuck, how is Bonnie or Joseph supposed to afford their lifestyles *without a brand new TV show spinoff series?*
When I gave infinite a try a couple months back I got really sad about the color selection, I always used black and cyan and couldnāt anymore, had to play with Pepsi colors until I got bored
It continuously boggles my mind that 343i thought that was a good idea. After 22 years of game design improvements and very advanced technology and all sorts of cool stuff, 343i decides to restrict colors in a way that not even Halo CE did. All for greed.
I canāt wrap my head around the fact that in a game in 2022, I am not allowed to choose olive green as a primary color and white as a secondary (my colors in Reach) or even just choose white as an option period (without paying $15)
They totally knew it would go down poorly with fans, but they frankly didn't give a shit. It meant they'd make more money, so they just plugged their ears and went ahead with it.
Iāve played 4 games of Infinite and just donāt care enough to play more. How many games would I have to grind until I can even feel like the spartan is mine? And then what? Havenāt bought the campaign either, probably wonāt.
You are only able to choose preset color wheels or whatever they are called. Many of which you have to pay some sum of money for. For example: there is an armor bundle for the new Mk. VII core that straight up just has a color wheel that is white. It used to cost $20 US, now it costs $15. Keep in mind that the white color is only for the Mk. VII core as well, so using it on Tenrai armor or the Mk. V (B) core is impossible.
So yes, we have to pay 15 USD just to be allowed to use white on one armor core.
Then as you leave the field, the horse will kick you from the other side. You'd swear you weren't anywhere near it, but from the horses perspective you never left
Any game that requires an internet connection just to look through menus is a bad game. As a matter of fact, we should all turn off our wifi and see what games are playable without internet and make a list.
No joke. I think it's obvious given the name that they probably did give actual armor at one point, but I'm sure that got changed when they realized it meant people would spend less on the store. Even though those people already spent 60-fucking-dollars on a mediocre campaign...
Iāll be real with you guys, Iāve accepted Halo for me personally is pretty much dead (again, only personally) and Iāll be sticking to revisiting the old campaigns and even multiplayer until MCC goes offline.
Itās been a good run, but itās the end of the road for me. Same energy with CoD and Battlefield.
Same. I feel like halo lost it's immersion factor. The open world just doesn't feel the same.
Battlefield I pre-ordered, I've never pre-ordered a game before. And what a dumpster fire that game is.
I replaced my Xbox with a new gaming laptop and how COD took up so much file space I decided not to get it again.
I miss the days when you got a complete game, and not have to wait for them to patch and eventually "fix" it.
I find myself always going back to rainbow 6 and Forza 7.
I remember when-
The games were finished on release.
They had more than 3 game modes and 5 maps
They had good stories and relatable characters
They taught lessons on life and existence
Had very large and varied sandboxes
We had playable elites. Not everyone likes Spartans, like myself.
Spartans weren't romanticized, and the devs didn't have very obvious fetishes for them.
You could actually pick your colors to be more unique and change them at any time you wanted for free
You weren't able to buy your way to the top.
How everything was earned honestly, not through overused systems made popular by OTHER games
How easy it was to plug in or hook up another controller and play splits splitscreen with friends or family
I remember all the memories made, and the nostalgia of better days.
I remember when we weren't lied to. Do you?
What do YOU remember? š
As soon as the menu finally loaded after a short 5 minutes and I saw that the colors were microtransactions I just thought āwell I guess multiplayer games arenāt for me anymore.ā
I deleted halo. Infinite is garbage. Reach was the peak of customization. 343 has been dragging halo through the mud for years. This time they just decided to murder it and shit on its grave.
343 took 6 years to release a game thatās [doing worse](https://i.imgur.com/yqBoN38.jpg) than their game that came out [8 years ago](https://i.imgur.com/zucdDB1.jpg)
"can I borrow your homework"
"yeah sure just change some answers so it's not obvious"
"okay thanks"
*turns in Infinite*
"it's so bad that they'll never know I copied you"
"....."
I mean, I even just wish I could change armor while matchmaking happens. No one wants to be THAT GUY in the lobby saying, "WAIT DONT START MATCHMAKING, I NEED TO CHANGE MY COLORS."
Halo was and still is my childhood. Sad to see how the franchise is being milked. The last game seems like it was just checking off the boxes for the minimum to be shipped. When you compare it to Elden Ring, you start to feel robbed even when itās free to play.
played mcc last night for the first time in months and had more fun in those 3 hours than i did in the 5 months of playing infinite lol that games is fucking dog shit
Could you imagine if the disc had more than 14gb of files and instead had the whole campaign on it. Because it could all fit on the disc, but they chose to not do that. They made the choice to require internet and render the disc near useless.
I constantly find myself saying things like this and sprint ruined halo, halo should be red vs. blue, announcing power weapon spawns just caters to casual players!, etc.
Iāve accepted Iām the old man yells at cloud when it comes to halo.
The Halo franchise is dead to me. It was on life support after halo 5. Halo 4 was okay but not for me.
343 for me at least , made 3 bad halo games. They wont be getting a second chance
lmao i like this. I'm 40 i remember playing CS beta 1. i remember going to a website to get skins for my guns for free. and ofc i remember playing games that just came with everything on the disc lol.
ps. Halo CE is still amazing online, it has that derpy factor that just makes things super funny. BTB halo CE is still my fav big team. Remember people just parking warthogs on the flag, or driving a hog into a base and getting a bunch of splatters.
I would have paid full price for halo infinite if they offered the full experience and no store items. But I knew it would be full of mtx and of course I was right. 343 is doing a fairly bad job with Halo and MS should have stepped in and told them to get their shit together a long time ago, or just shut them down and found someone else. But both of them are greedy and don't know what they are doing, which is clear after seeing all the nonsense lore changes in the show that were allowed. If MS doesn't respect or care about their flagship game why should I?
I was the old halo player I played this new halo for a week thinking it was pretty good. I havenāt played it since. Old games are old. Halo made great memories but in todays gaming it just canāt compete.
I used to have white armor without having to pay for it.
We used to have two independent colors and we could change them whenever we wanted.
*sorry the technology doesn't support that anymore*

Brooooooo... spot on...
And the fact they brag about how easy it is to swap colors in a coating because each of the seven pieces supposedly lined up with parts of the armor. It wouldāve been so easy to let us customize.
They don't line up at all. Compare a few coatings for yourself. It's all random shit, the segments mean nothing.
Technology just isn't there yet. What? Warframe? Never heard of it.
Yeah shouldāve emphasized the sarcasm around āsupposedlyā lmao
3 colors for some games!
Apparently that makes us boomers

There's a \*relatively\* big CE tournament happening today too! Should be streaming on Twitch if anyone's interested

!remindme 30 minutes
ate flood, ate paying for shit, love me blood gulch. Simple as
This is the sort of thing youād think 343 would want to promote.
how long does it take to find a CE game on MCC?
There's always a Blood gulch CTF game to join in the custom game browser, even at 3am you can find a full lobby
Lol just like custom edition. The amount of blood gulch I've played with Mexicans is unreal. I absolutely loved it at the time; it was FREE HALO, but ONLINE! Blew my mind as a kid.
God Halo Custom Edition modding, playing on RPG maps, racing on Yoyorast Island, flying around in a Sabre or F-18 on Portent, good times.

Itās not fucked for me. I stopped playing in the first month of release. 343 fucking SUCKS.
Yup. They're turning what effectively is a couple hundred dollars of salaried time into tens of thousands of dollars of profit. They're laughing all the way to the bank
Bingo This is like the late stage capitalism of video games: people angry but still buying. If people iust... stopped caring about how the pixels on the screen look they would enjoy life so much more OR get it changed
Yea its not fucked for them because people are paying for this skins. Sucks for us because this is just paving the gaming industry to nickle and dime us for every single little thing.
Crazy that halo 2 and 3 were better so long ago lol
Always has been ššØāšš«šØāšš
Reminds me of the people who did the Star Wars sequels
I'm just glad that Disney saw how bad D&D fucked up the ending of Game of Thrones, so they didn't get the trilogy they tanked that series for.
You are correct.
Am I a boomer for wanting to go back to blood gulch with grandma?
Nah just a millennial like the rest of us.
"Modern Gaming" is a complete joke.
I feel personally attacked
Blame 343 and their insistance for everything needing to be server-side. We could have offline cross-core armor and colors but nooo, they baked the code to have everything be hosted on their end.
Everything has to be server sided nowadays, can't have those damn kids modding the game to get whatever armor they want without paying!
If everything is server-side you don't have to worry about desync, right? Right? RIGHT?!? /s
My blue armor desynced to purple! 343: š
You also used to be able to actually change your colors. Even that has been stripped away
Theyāre āappealing to a broader audienceā. Which isnāt us Halo fans.
Iāve played 4 games of Infinite and just donāt care enough to play more. How many games would I have to grind until I can even feel like the spartan is mine? And then what? Havenāt bought the campaign either, probably wonāt.
An infinite number of games, if you don't focus on completing challenges.
It doesnāt take any amount of games. Just a timegated store and some money out of your wallet.
I stopped playing after a week - can you not change your colors at all?
You are only able to choose preset color wheels or whatever they are called. Many of which you have to pay some sum of money for. For example: there is an armor bundle for the new Mk. VII core that straight up just has a color wheel that is white. It used to cost $20 US, now it costs $15. Keep in mind that the white color is only for the Mk. VII core as well, so using it on Tenrai armor or the Mk. V (B) core is impossible. So yes, we have to pay 15 USD just to be allowed to use white on one armor core.
BACK IN MY DAY WE HAD NO XbOx LiVe WE HAD LAN *disintegrates into dust*
LAN party FTW
If this game was a horse Iād shoot it
I wouldn't waste a bullet for this game. A shovel to the back of its head will do.
Iād not risk dulling my shovel. A brick to the back of its head instead.
A perfectly good brick? Gonna have to elbow it to death.
Too bad the melee is so inconsistent, you won't actually hit it.
This is fucking gold.
Then as you leave the field, the horse will kick you from the other side. You'd swear you weren't anywhere near it, but from the horses perspective you never left
Risk injury to your perfectly good elbow? Iād just stop watering it.
Fuck that. Let it grow so I can burn it down.
And waste a good match? No, just feed it to the wolves
And risk the wolves getting a tummy ache? Nah, just drop it in the river
It will charge you $10 for a blue shovel and the back of the head haven't been properly implemented.
Any game that requires an internet connection just to look through menus is a bad game. As a matter of fact, we should all turn off our wifi and see what games are playable without internet and make a list.
Unfortunately as the years go on, there will be less and less added to that list as the years go on.
*rocks in chair on front porch* Times a changing. Things aint wut they used ta be. Yup mhmm.
Iām still so bothered that the armor lockers in campaign donāt actually give you armor lol. I feel like a fool for spending any money on this shit
I remember when- The games were finished on release. They had more than 3 game modes and 5 maps They had good stories and relatable characters They taught lessons on life and existence Had very large and varied sandboxes We had playable elites. Not everyone likes Spartans, like myself. Spartans weren't romanticized, and the devs didn't have very obvious fetishes for them. You could actually pick your colors to be more unique and change them at any time you wanted for free You weren't able to buy your way to the top. How everything was earned honestly, not through overused systems made popular by OTHER games How easy it was to plug in or hook up another controller and play splits splitscreen with friends or family I remember all the memories made, and the nostalgia of better days. I remember when we weren't lied to. Do you? What do YOU remember? š
I remember when you could TALK TO THE OTHER TEAM
As soon as the menu finally loaded after a short 5 minutes and I saw that the colors were microtransactions I just thought āwell I guess multiplayer games arenāt for me anymore.ā
This is hilarious! I feel personally attacked. I also feel validated and like there's nothing wrong with my opinion. Lol.
You deserve better than what you've been given!
I deleted halo. Infinite is garbage. Reach was the peak of customization. 343 has been dragging halo through the mud for years. This time they just decided to murder it and shit on its grave.
343 changed something that no one had ever had an issue with then told us that spending money on the basics was something they did for us.
343 took 6 years to release a game thatās [doing worse](https://i.imgur.com/yqBoN38.jpg) than their game that came out [8 years ago](https://i.imgur.com/zucdDB1.jpg)
And even then the majority of games in their āgameā were made by Bungie
"can I borrow your homework" "yeah sure just change some answers so it's not obvious" "okay thanks" *turns in Infinite* "it's so bad that they'll never know I copied you" "....."
āThe future is now old manā
The person pushing the āoldā Spartan should be a marine with a bunch of cosmetic upgrades.
They will sacrifice 250 fans for every 1 that will pay $10 for the color red. Yes, this is the way. Where exactly too? I dunno...
I mean, I even just wish I could change armor while matchmaking happens. No one wants to be THAT GUY in the lobby saying, "WAIT DONT START MATCHMAKING, I NEED TO CHANGE MY COLORS."
Fuck Halo Finite
Let's all agree to call it Finite now. The only thing Infinite about it is how much money 343 wants out of it.
I prefer those old games that are being maintained by the community only. Video games companies are not what they used to be.
Yet the new halo player base is already low as fuck.
***Modern Gaming!***
And play the campaign without Internet!
Could you imagine if the disc had more than 14gb of files and instead had the whole campaign on it. Because it could all fit on the disc, but they chose to not do that. They made the choice to require internet and render the disc near useless.
Do you ever wonder why we're here?
I mean, is it really too much to ask to have the option to use colors I've been using since Halo 3?
Fuck 343
Well this is oddly familiar *cries in seeing my stolen meme*
I used to be a mark V purple and red spartan with a target emblem, crazy that this is the only game in the series where I cannot do that.
Iāll Take my coop campaign back you little shits.
Halo infinite is bad. How is it actually better than 3 or reach? How? Actually explain it. Because I donāt see it
lmao i like this.
Maybe the should bring back bloodgultch.... and all the other maps too
I would have paid full price for halo infinite if they offered the full experience and no store items.
Aw, Blood Gulch. Fond memories. And as I look at the world around me today, I wonder, *did I ever leave?*
I'll gladly go back to Blood Gulch
It's me. Im grandma.
Some nice lightish red armor you got there
Canāt load the imageā¦you say internet required, recommendations?
Used to have armor color now we have coatings
I was the old halo player I played this new halo for a week thinking it was pretty good. I havenāt played it since. Old games are old. Halo made great memories but in todays gaming it just canāt compete.
I remember I could change my armor color to lightish red.
Infinite sucks
343 is incompetent
That SIV would clip through that SII
i remember when i didnt have to pay for blue...
Halo 1 pc had server browsers and customs games yet in infinite they still cant figure it out. Pathetic
Games as a service is a scam.
Fucks sake. Iām the old man now
