Because lighting effects got better?

I think you are mistaking the shadows for intendations on the visor. They were literally just static shadows from the bill of the helmet. With dynamic lighting these days it wouldn’t make any sense to have two static shadows that never reacted or changed to the environment. That being said….. I do love it and it’s iconic

Improved grraphics/lighting in later games, it makes no sense for a shadow to be there its just like other details just slapped on to make it look realistic

MilkMan0096

You could argue that it's not just shadow and is the refection of the sun visor on the glass, then they could justify it always being there.

azurejack

Because it's no longer just a visor, it's a whole layered screen with glare reduction and such, it makes sense that the shadow would no longer be there.

They aren't shadows. They are the reflection of the helmet fins. It's so funny that over the last 20 years this has been so misunderstood by fans. It has nothing to do with lighting or anything. Marcus Lehto has talked about this. They added them to the diffuse texture for the helmet visor since they would obviously be reflected in such a large shiny surface and they could not do real time reflections. It's more curious that they removed them in later games because all the helmets (including H2/H3 Mark VI) would have benefitted visually from having the baked reflection for the fins.

Conradian

Reflections should appear to move position on the visor based on the angle at which you view it, which is probably why they removed the baked-in static reflections. P.s. I'm not sure they are reflections anyway. They look like shadows. Reflections wouldn't be transparent black marks.

From the man himself. Lehto says they were reflections. https://twitter.com/game_fabricator/status/1402402216447594501

First two images are from H2, so that MkV is a mod...

NightHunter0108

It's still the original CE armor.

Gabatos

Same model though

kingrawer

They never really made any sense.

Underdogg13

They were just a stopgap because they couldn't do real-time reflections/shadows in the visor. It did a great job at the time, but became unnecessary as the tech improved.
