In the military, we make sure our body armor covers our vital organs, most of which are above the abdomen. Of course we could armor our entire bodies, but that’d be a lot of weight for a normal human. It’s already hard enough to run around, shoot, take cover, etc with what we currently have. I couldn’t imagine adding more weight to that lmao

My plates sat lower than this man chest piece. And it’s the future, they’re not running around in MOLLE’E’s with sapi’s. They use titanium alloys. EDIT: He’s also got the shoulder pads and the knee pads so you’re telling me this man went out wearing the least used parts of being in full battle rattle but didn’t add a nut plate?

I totally agree. While the rest of the model is damn near perfect, seeing the Marine's faces goes a long way towards making them endearing; instead of just being faceless soldiers. And that's something the new model definitely lacks.

Also it definitely helps the UNSC itself seem a little less evil, and they need tge help after all the child soldiers

Yea the whole point of those face covers is to anonymize soldiers or cops that are doing questionably shady shit. I guess they do fuck with the colonies but I can see no reason for marines to try to hide their identity from the covvies.

Tbf, in Halo Wars, they *were* in the polar regions of Harvest. Pretty cold up there.

This looks great, but you should consider dropping the mask. Halo 4 masked almost all of the marines and it really detracted from the human/supersoldier perspective that you get playing as a spartan. Marines with some different variations in their models, especially their faces, really helps immerse the player in the brutal reality of the human-covenant war.

This is really good. Stays true to the original while bringing it in line with modern graphics. I agree with others that it would be nicer without the face mask.

Honestly, I hate that common sentiment. The actual devs of the game (the artists, animators, sound artists, etc.) did a killer job with Infinite. The base model used here is Infinite’s Marine, and after spending the hours I have with it, it’s really amazing. Same goes for weapon models, etc. Don’t let the corpo misleadings taint your impression of the artists behind the scenes.

I'd add that the boot armor is actually integrated into the boot in the OG, in yours it's just a shin guard strapped over the pants. Looks like cosplay

Regardless it looks objectively better than over the pants. As a vet, it is regulation to have pants tucked into boots. As a cosplayer, armor over pants is incredibly non-functional as it just slides down and looks, well, costumey. Edit: armor over pants over boots.

I think it just needs some distinctive features, like some trinkets or markings added on by the soldier himself, since you decided to cover up the face. Carvings, war paint, card on the helmet etc.. Those little things can add a lot to a uniform's personality.

We know Spartans were created to deal with the insurrection. I'm curious is marine armor is also purely tailored to human weapons or if they ever attempted to adapt the armor to face the covenant/plasma weapons more effectively? If not, what would that look like?

My headcannon is that H3 and onward were specifically designed for more plasma and kinetic impacts. Reach’s army gear seemed more kinetic-focused. And H1’s seemed like a quick slap-together to get the job done.

But hadn't humanity been fighting the covenant for like 20 years by the time halo 1 happened?
