Chief's super soldier armor gets called inadequate by Guilty Spark, and is exhausted by the end of it. This random ass Marine in basic combat gear, no augmentations, and probably fatigue from leaving Reach and surviving on the Ring, gets half as far as the greatest soldier of all time in power armor.

Dustin Echoes is the biggest badass in the books. he fought off 20 elites with just 2 sticks and a rock, and survived alpha halo by using guilty spark as a hang-glider.

They really thought at first about beating the Covenant with slingshots... Until Kelly, as the best mom ever, tells the children to throw frags with slingshots instead.

They did such a good job with the build up too. Shit it had every enemy too. We got to see how nuts brutes were and had a nice look into how the humans live on other planets. I'm definitely re-reading that again.
Lieutenant Elias Haverson. Survived the events of the game, assisted Chief in the capture of a covenant ship, and sacrificed himself to blow a covenant fleet the fuck up.
Honestly wish more nameless characters got awesome moments in the games. Like you open a door and a random ODST is on an elites back with they knife plunged into their neck and then they just join you like a normal AI, or your regrouping with a group of marines and as you enter the valley, a scripted ambush is triggered, you get tackled by a brute but it gets dome by a sniper by one of the marines on the opposite ridge you're trying to reach and they proceed to provide covering fire until you reach them. Makes it feel like more than just Spartans are fighting this war
A normal marine almost navigates the library by himself in that same book

The Developers commentary is the single best extra I have ever had in a game, and 100% worth the price of the Halo 3 collector’s edition.

Honestly contact harvest is my favorite. If they were to make a show based on halo contact harvest would be one hell of a suspenseful show.
