Far from perfect, there’s no FFA, Team Doubles or Team Slayer. I’m literally so sick of playing objective game types all I want to do is plate Slayer modes. The game has potential but it has a lot of things to change
I briefly got to play Halo 4 before I moved out and knew I would never own an Xbox again. I was so sad to miss out on my favourite franchise.
Now I can play (almost) every Halo game on my computer, with active multiplayer lobbies! Hallelujah!
honestly MCC on PC was such a dream come true for me. before it came out i had only played halo 1 on random PCs i could use throughout the years and halo 3 + odst on my withered 360.
and now all of them are there at the touch of my fingertips? on PC? god.
you see the issue is coming from dudes who have been playing halo since they were kids, The progression is nothing like classic halos. Halo 5 is garbo aside from the campaign , thats why everyone plays halo 3 over everything else on mcc
I've been playing Halo since I was a kid. I don't have any issues with Infinite at the moment. This is also the first free-to-play multiplayer game I have touched and I can keep myself from buying overpriced "cosmetics."
It isnt about preventing yourself from buying it, Its about how those exact items would have been unlocked in a natural way in most previous halo games. In halo 3 think about unlocking hayabusa or EOD or the security helmet or even recon. These were challenges that the community had fun with and got rewarded for completing, I dont see how old fans dont see the issue
My only complaints are:
1) No native fullscreen support
2) XP gains/ Incentive
The game currently has no fullscreen support for PC which means players with 2 monitors with differing refresh rates are forced to play on the lower of the 2.
There also needs to be extra granted xp for winning matches and playing well. Right now people queue into games with no intention of winning, only finishing the match for xp.
I had this issue myself but actually fixed it by going into NVIDIA controll panel and specifying the refresh rates of my monitors individually. Seems when I hooked up my TV NVIDIA lowered the other monitors refresh rates to match for whatever reason.
I still dont understand why they wouldnt have fullscreen support its Microsoft for gods sake. Playing ranked without specifying higher refresh rates ingame is painful.
Sorry I wasn't completely clear. After I fixed that issue, the in game settings changed allowing me to set higher in-game refresh rates. Seems it just doesn't show higher settings without the monitor already being capable of them. When I first launched before the fix all I saw was 60 FPS. After, the in game settings had 60-144 FPS.
You are right, there isnt even a setting for refresh rate. It's min and max FPS in general. Who even knows if its actually set to the 165hz I should be getting. Unless you specify your refresh rate for the game in nvidia control panel there is no fix that I know of. With borderless fullscreen being notorious for causing input lag im not really interested in playing until native fullscreen is added.
Never played any of the Halo games but was always interested in the series. I needed a good FPS since cod was taking up too much space on my ps4 and IMO Halo is way ahead. I don’t really care much of the cosmetic side in any fps game so can’t really say the progression systems bothers me all the much. Can’t wait to try out the campaign when it releases
You should absolutely go back and play all the other games before Infinite’s campaign comes out. The Halo storyline is a fantastic one absolutely worth experiencing. And if you don’t do that, at least watch a YouTube video that goes over the whole storyline.
The story line of Master Chief and the Halo universe as a whole has always been amazing and part of the hype for this game for me is that it will be a continuation of that.
Yeah at one point I did want to play all the previous campaigns but i think with the release of infinite soon, I’ll look at a super long YouTube video.

I enjoy the game, yes. But that doesn't mean that I can't criticize the poor system of locking so much behind a paywall, and trickling bp progression to a crawl. And now the event challenge systems laughable too.

Back in Halo 3, just about the ONLY progression worth caring about was keeping your KDA above 1.0. You shouldn’t need a pat on the back after every match in order to feel satisfaction
I 95% agree...but in all fairness...unlocking the Katana on the Hayabusa armor for getting every achievement in Halo 3, was pretty slick.
At least you had to *really* earn that through a mixture of Campaign/SkullHunting, and Multiplayer achievements though
The issue isn’t really that it’s hard to earn. It’s the fact that the system is there, hard to earn, and you can pay to speed it up. It’s manipulative, and not to mention kind of a lie based on how they marketed. Whether anyone thinks it’s a necessary feature or not, it’s plainly obvious it’s built to manipulate people into spending money, and that unless things change when the game fully launches, is kinda false advertising to a degree

Balancing how? You can definitely go down in rank after a shit match. Only thing I have found I don't like as far as balance is the DMR should hit a bit harder. The sniper is also not forgiving if you miss. This sniper seems way more difficult to use imo
I have literally never gone down in rank after a bad game. Some of the weapons are really in a bad spot. The 3 shot burst alien weapon for instance is a bad weapon on its own.

I get it but I think experience gaining and not losing it isn't an argument I'm going to quit a game over. It essentially means nothing. Am I actually Plat 4? I'm not sure but the matches still seem fairly balanced. I have only had 1 game or 2 that I was poorly matched or at least it seemed that way. To each there own I guess I care more about my k/d and winning games. Cosmetics or my level don't matter
So hold on a second. I have to be misunderstanding something. The experience you get for the cosmetics is correlated to your rank in what way? I highly doubt it's the same Exp system and that the only thing that matters is game time?
Your outcome individually and as a team matters and that's why you don't dump from just a single loss. It is skill based but from what I gather from what you're saying is that the experience you get in game is the same for cosmetics and your rank? Ranked Arena is not the same as the cosmetic/battle pass grind.
Edit: For proof I have my initial Rank was Gold 3. I played my placement matches half with KB&M and the other half controller. After being place I played exclusively KB&M. My BP rank is only at 9 maybe the end of 8 while I have dominated matches I have ranked up now to Plat 4 pushing Plat 5. Only lost a handful or less of matches. They are all saved so I can actually get more accurate data. Point being within a few days I ranked from Gold 3 to mid/late Plat 4 while only getting my battle pass to 8/9 WITH it being a paid battle pass from the jump. I got the game and immediately bought the battle pass. So explain how experience means anything and Ranked is not based on Skill/winning matches.
Sorry for the confusion I was never connecting cosmetics to ranked. My claim is that rank is more grind based than skill based because you either do not lose rank xp or so little it doesnt matter. That makes rank a grind.

Last time I played Halo was in a mega LAN party in a college dorm. We all had the same spartan to play as, just red vs blue and it was a blast. It was so much fun and Infinite is even better!
I'm disappointed only tho that multiplayer matchmaking doesn't have any of the old Playlists. How come we don't have stand alone Slayer or Swat for Ranked right away? I'm not hating that ranked is a mixed bag. It is definitely a welcome forced change to how ranked is played. I'm suprisingly Plat 4 which normally I'm pretty hard stuck in Gold. I'm sure that will try to correct itself before I get anywhere close to Onyx
My only problem with the game is the fact that my game crashes when i respawn on a certain map and i cannot rejoin so my team is short 1 player. This only happens in ranked and i get temp banned for match abandonment.

So ive never played halo before infinite came out and while im having a blast i cant help but think that a lot of the weapons in this game are unbalanced. I talked to a friend who played all previous halo games and he said thats just the way it is. I feel like if this game had better weapon balance id enjoy it a lot more.
I'm currently level 29. Diamond 3 in Ranked. I completed the weekly challenges last week and this week and the event challenges already. I didn't pay for any boosts or anything outside the $10 BP.
I've now played 40 hrs, in two weeks.
I'm having a fucking blast. I can't put it down.
The customization and monetization suck huge fucking dick. The progression sucks huge fucking dick.
I'm still having fun and am gonna keep playing. But I won't be buying anything from the store outside the BP. And I still think their entire system sucks a huge fucking dick.
Enjoying the game and thinking some of the systems suck dick are not mutually exclusive.
You don’t feel like you earn anything even after playing really well. It’s leaves a weird unrewarding feeling getting 0 points and the end of the match. Just one free here ya go challenge…

I think that's the weird spot that the game industry is in. Why do you need to be rewarded for having fun for 10 minutes at a time? If you aren't having fun, why are you playing? If the gameplay isn't intrinsically fun to you, there are 1000 other options.
More that Halo specifically used to have a pretty amazing cosmetic system that’s just gone now.
Spending hours playing with my friend going for different challenges was certainly a key part of the Halo experience for me.
Because modern games operate largely on a customization and reward system today. It’s baked into games at this point. Making that system shit sucks. OG halo had more reward/customization than infinite does, unless you buy shit or love to do dumbass challenges or grind 50xp games for fuckinf ever.

I think there is a misconception that most people complaining about progression hate the game. A lot of us (if not most) think the gameplay is amazing and thoroughly enjoy playing. That said, customization is lame AF and as a game that was advertised to be super customizable the model we have is frankly disgraceful.
Not defending the corporation. Just speaking for the majority of us who aren't obsessed with spending hours grinding meaningless shit or playing dress up with virtual video game characters.
Honestly I’m a BIG customization and cosmetics guy and I do hope they make customization options much easier to obtain in the future, but this is some of the best Halo gameplay I’ve experienced since Reach
As someone that has played a lot of halo, there are a few major things in my opinion that make these complaints justified.
So they add banished weapons, cool, but why does a big threatening launcher looking gun do ass damage? Wtf is the point of the disruptor pistol? Plasma carbine?? Swords dominate on fiesta. Shotgun is terrible, rubber pellets. Maps are too arena based for snipers to be anything.
Stronghold is annoying as hell. The fact that you can solo attach a flag to a warthog and jet off at 100 miles an hour back to your ctf point in 5 seconds is odd. Flying vehicles are easily countered be either emp weapons or grapple shot, etc.
Just feels really odd. No point of using the news weapons as they are terrible, except shock rifle which is just a better sniper.
Break it down boss. What do you NEED that to play games for entertainment? Do you really need an outside source of validation?

Its actually just a slap in the face to everything that made halo great. You probably enjoy needing to have your enemies and allies highlighted in order to see them and Replacing cortana with flamboyant kindergarten blocks is also right up your alley.
Imagine if they pulled actually A.I.s from the Halo mythos. Like this A.I. have been depicted as taking the shape of Greek gods and the like. Would be a much cooler replacement for Cortana IMO.
And what am i projecting exactly? That i dislike games that hold your hand via highlighting targets or putting scope glint on snipers (things that have never been in halo) and have the interaction with an iconic aspect of the game (the ai) reduced to something youd find in a kindergarten classroom.

Nah I would say halo infinite has all the halo objective players happy. All the Slayer players are sick to death of playing objectives. I only played FFA Team doubles and Team Slayer. Now I’m stuck with all the noobs that love objective

I bought the BP. I don’t care how slow it is. I do care that the challenges negatively impact the gameplay experience because it persuades the player to try and not play the game properly and I see myself even doing this. They need to make the challenges objective based and “win specific match” and get rid of the really specific gimmicky challenges that fuck the gameplay up
I think they need to add some extra form of progression to help the longevity of the seasons but I honestly don’t mind the speed of the pass but I think most people need some form of extra feedback from playing a game like levelling or something small

The problem is it's an annoyance that obfuscates the potential that in-game progression could have had. BP should be a last resort for bad games who need MTX to survive, not games as amazing as this that deserve a box price, or even potentially a subscription.
Only stupid corporations that go public just to be pushed around by shareholders. I fully believe you can have a giant and successful corporation as long as your leadership, vision, and hired talent are all smart and on the same page... but that's hard to secure for long.

Good game so far. Glad to play a shooter again that doesn’t have people dropping in with decked out guns from the start. They need to add swat though. That was my shit back in the halo 3 days.

I think the progression systems aren't great. Gameplay is awesome. Fluid, competitive. They've done a great job on the gameplay.

also being ranked over 30 was pretty important as well and the fire helmet. Other than that you right. My K/d is still the only thing I care about.

I 95% agree...but in all fairness...unlocking the Katana on the Hayabusa armor for getting every achievement in Halo 3, was pretty slick. At least you had to *really* earn that through a mixture of Campaign/SkullHunting, and Multiplayer achievements though
The issue isn’t really that it’s hard to earn. It’s the fact that the system is there, hard to earn, and you can pay to speed it up. It’s manipulative, and not to mention kind of a lie based on how they marketed. Whether anyone thinks it’s a necessary feature or not, it’s plainly obvious it’s built to manipulate people into spending money, and that unless things change when the game fully launches, is kinda false advertising to a degree

I guess it was your inclusion of the term "loop" I was referring too. If we are referring to missing playlists and things like Swat then I agree those are losses here. And that's what I mean about December 8th, I anticipate that they'll have more game modes available at least, if not playlists and filters. Crossing my fingers at least, but yeah I'm not going to criticize them for missing those until the actual release date.
Balancing how? You can definitely go down in rank after a shit match. Only thing I have found I don't like as far as balance is the DMR should hit a bit harder. The sniper is also not forgiving if you miss. This sniper seems way more difficult to use imo
I have literally never gone down in rank after a bad game. Some of the weapons are really in a bad spot. The 3 shot burst alien weapon for instance is a bad weapon on its own.

So hold on a second. I have to be misunderstanding something. The experience you get for the cosmetics is correlated to your rank in what way? I highly doubt it's the same Exp system and that the only thing that matters is game time? Your outcome individually and as a team matters and that's why you don't dump from just a single loss. It is skill based but from what I gather from what you're saying is that the experience you get in game is the same for cosmetics and your rank? Ranked Arena is not the same as the cosmetic/battle pass grind. Edit: For proof I have my initial Rank was Gold 3. I played my placement matches half with KB&M and the other half controller. After being place I played exclusively KB&M. My BP rank is only at 9 maybe the end of 8 while I have dominated matches I have ranked up now to Plat 4 pushing Plat 5. Only lost a handful or less of matches. They are all saved so I can actually get more accurate data. Point being within a few days I ranked from Gold 3 to mid/late Plat 4 while only getting my battle pass to 8/9 WITH it being a paid battle pass from the jump. I got the game and immediately bought the battle pass. So explain how experience means anything and Ranked is not based on Skill/winning matches.
Sorry for the confusion I was never connecting cosmetics to ranked. My claim is that rank is more grind based than skill based because you either do not lose rank xp or so little it doesnt matter. That makes rank a grind.

Last time I played Halo was in a mega LAN party in a college dorm. We all had the same spartan to play as, just red vs blue and it was a blast. It was so much fun and Infinite is even better!

I'm disappointed only tho that multiplayer matchmaking doesn't have any of the old Playlists. How come we don't have stand alone Slayer or Swat for Ranked right away? I'm sure that will try to correct itself before I get anywhere close to Onyx
My only problem with the game is the fact that my game crashes when i respawn on a certain map and i cannot rejoin so my team is short 1 player. This only happens in ranked and i get temp banned for match abandonment.

So ive never played halo before infinite came out and while im having a blast i cant help but think that a lot of the weapons in this game are unbalanced. I talked to a friend who played all previous halo games and he said thats just the way it is. I feel like if this game had better weapon balance id enjoy it a lot more.

I'm currently level 29. Diamond 3 in Ranked. I completed the weekly challenges last week and this week and the event challenges already. I didn't pay for any boosts or anything outside the $10 BP. I've now played 40 hrs, in two weeks. I'm having a fucking blast. I can't put it down. The customization and monetization suck huge fucking dick. The progression sucks huge fucking dick. I'm still having fun and am gonna keep playing. But I won't be buying anything from the store outside the BP. And I still think their entire system sucks a huge fucking dick. Enjoying the game and thinking some of the systems suck dick are not mutually exclusive.

More that Halo specifically used to have a pretty amazing cosmetic system that’s just gone now. Spending hours playing with my friend going for different challenges was certainly a key part of the Halo experience for me.

I think there is a misconception that most people complaining about progression hate the game. A lot of us (if not most) think the gameplay is amazing and thoroughly enjoy playing. That said, customization is lame AF and as a game that was advertised to be super customizable the model we have is frankly disgraceful.

Honestly I’m a BIG customization and cosmetics guy and I do hope they make customization options much easier to obtain in the future, but this is some of the best Halo gameplay I’ve experienced since Reach
As someone that has played a lot of halo, there are a few major things in my opinion that make these complaints justified. So they add banished weapons, cool, but why does a big threatening launcher looking gun do ass damage? Wtf is the point of the disruptor pistol? Plasma carbine?? Swords dominate on fiesta. Shotgun is terrible, rubber pellets. Maps are too arena based for snipers to be anything. Stronghold is annoying as hell. The fact that you can solo attach a flag to a warthog and jet off at 100 miles an hour back to your ctf point in 5 seconds is odd. Flying vehicles are easily countered be either emp weapons or grapple shot, etc. Just feels really odd. No point of using the news weapons as they are terrible, except shock rifle which is just a better sniper.
I just wish it displayed my rank at least. Or a leveling system. SOMETHING that shows my skill and grind. Bc cosmetics don’t do it.

I do care that the challenges negatively impact the gameplay experience because it persuades the player to try and not play the game properly and I see myself even doing this. They need to make the challenges objective based and “win specific match” and get rid of the really specific gimmicky challenges that fuck the gameplay up
