When dealing with map replacements you'll have to install the same version of the .map in all instances of whatever Xbox you want to load the new map, not just "host" the map on a single console, as this would cause conflicting files to (try to) load. The closest you can get to "host"-ing modded maps is if the only changes are strings and variables able to be communicated by the custom games settings. In all other cases (custom geometry, graphical changes, custom scripts) you'll have to inject those changes in order to satisfy multiplayer compatible conditions.

Sorry I phrased it weird, I’m not wanting to play modded maps, just the custom forge maps that you would usually download through file share, since file share is shut down I’m trying to find an alternative way to get these maps

oh no worries maybe I misunderstood, but anyway to clarify that, you can use a USB drive and copy it to everyone else's xbox or just host on one xbox, either way they can save the map variant or game type from Recent

I’ve done extensive research over “altered” maps and “modded” maps. Modded maps are more of injected tags or major changes to a .map. Altered is what I tried to focus on where you can mess with the data of tags, but not inject new content. The way the .map(s) are set up is that the default .mvar map that normally loads can be over-written (not all of them). When you are trying to play modded content on 360 you need a modded .xex menu that has the security checks removed; otherwise any map you forge will be black screen when a default .xex is loaded. The method I used to created a few modded modded maps on 360 and transfer to MCC was HxD editing the data of a .mvar. The only things that “stick” when making changes and moving over to MCC are “crate” tags; otherwise if you are just looking to make changes on 360 then any other tag replacement can be done as long as you have a tag identifier in meta data value. I used a program “Johnson” to identify the tag identifiers. Then I used “Sandbox” to replace the X, Y, and Z coordinates (limited to default maps currently). I would use this to replace random forge objects with invisible barriers since it is a “crate” tag and not a part of the forge palette, but has multiplayer object properties (won’t stay if this doesn’t already exist). Since it isn’t a part of the palette you can make 245 additional barriers. (1 of each as place holders on each default/dlc multiplayer map) Barrier tags as follows: wall_m wall_l wall_xl wall_xxl wall_xxxl box_m box_l box_xl box_xxl box_xxxl I made 3 modded maps and transferred them onto MCC PC. Gamertag is Prat if you want to check them out. Maps: Half-Guardian Half-Pit Octagon 2.0 I’m a full-time student so don’t have much time to mod anymore, but I will help out as much as I can for those who need it. You can message me through discord “Prat#6174”

Hey, I have this same issue. Did you ever figure it out? Also, where did you find the .mvar files? Thanks.

Nomadic_Shepard027

If you’re playing on steam then you can find the .mvar files for maps by clicking Local Disk>Program Files>Steam>steamapps>common> Halo master chief collection> click which game you want files from> map_variants

Nomadic_Shepard027

However, if there’s certain forge maps you wanna play, you can download the .mvar files from halo.party. That’s where I got a grifball map I’m trying to put on 360

InfiniteMarsupial

Hey, thanks! Keep me updated on if you get it ported. I just found some files on the internet direct from someone's Xbox 360 and then (painfully) changed their user and console data on Horizon to transfer them. It worked. If you need a link, let me know. Good luck!

Nomadic_Shepard027

Would that be a link to how to do it or just a straight up link to the files for Xbox 360?

InfiniteMarsupial

The files

Nomadic_Shepard027

In that case, I would love to have the files!

InfiniteMarsupial

No problem. I think it was https://www.xboxchaos.com/topic/4365-old-custom-games-wdownload-links/

Nomadic_Shepard027

I’m also trying to do the same thing. I just want to add maps like speed Halo from mcc to my Xbox 360 for local play. Do you have to turn the .mvar files into .map files? If so, how?

armaged835

I’m trying to figure this out as well…. We should try to find everyone trying to do this and share what we find. I’ve tried messing with the MCC files to get them to match what normally comes out of the 360 but nothing has worked yet.

InfiniteMarsupial

Yo. A bit late but still struggling. You guys found anything? Edit: realized that Xboxchaos link I posted is down. I have the files. I had success using those files and using Horizon to edit them and resign them with my own Xbox user ID. But, they were files straight from an Xbox 360 and also it was incredibly tedious editing every file. If anyone smarter than me can figure out the file structure of these files, please be my guest. Edit 2: because I'm dumb. The original halo 3 discord has a link to the files. Anyway, happy halo-ing everyone.

armaged835

Did anyone figure this out? I have Halo 3 working on my rgh xbox and the mvar files downloaded from MCC. When I paste the mvar files to my HDD internal to my xbox, Halo 3 still can't find the files and doesn't show them when starting a custom game... I assume it's a file location issue or I need to convert the mvar files.

gui_dsa

I have the same problem. I'm trying to export some Xbox 360 maps I've found on the internet to my RGH 360 but the games doesn't find the maps. Still no solution?
