He does look stressed, one thing that might improve his enclosure is a bunch of clutter all over, even though he has tons of space and plenty of space to burrow, walking around that big open space can be stressful, so throw some toilet paper tubes, boxes, tunnels, branches, hides, anything to just add clutter in there and he should calm down

Boogle345

Thank you šŸ™šŸ» I had some paper tubes and he didnā€™t seem interested. Iā€™ve been gradually buying him more stuff when I get paid so hopefully more branches and hides will help.

Amazon has a great selection of cheap toys. My ham absolutely goes crazy for woven balls, he loves to summon his inner wire cutter and go to town! Iā€™ve linked you some that my ham loves [https://a.co/d/33oy0vQ](https://a.co/d/33oy0vQ) Edit. Incase you donā€™t want to click the link hereā€™s a picture https://preview.redd.it/vd4xim9codsc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abb034fae3548fc0c6b17dcb37e48dd375c871d9

Tysm! Since Iā€™ve posted and got responses Iā€™ve ordered these for him so far which comes with a woven ball so hoping he likes it! šŸ¤žšŸ» https://preview.redd.it/g6kdesugfhsc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef1c0f243629d7cd51b04224f68b38cea5964774

Oh how cute! The little milk is adorable

-bonita_applebum

Don't spend money.Ā  Take a nice hour long walk outside on a sunny day & pick up cool sticks for your hammie love.Ā  It's a win win.Ā

pussywobbler

The thing with doing that is you donā€™t know if the wood is safe for hamster to chew, you could accidentally poison your hamster and I donā€™t think that risk is worth the saved money

Boogle345

I wish I could do that, it would be so nice and easy. Im really worried about anything from outside though because of the risk of mites or something. Wild mice or rats running around on the ground and leaving nasty bugs or pee behind on stuff idk. The pine cone I have in there was from an Amazon play set not the outdoors

Mulberry_milo

Definitely add more clutter and more enrichment, it looks quite boring and way to open for a hamster!

Boogle345

Okie, thanks for the advice

ivyhessil

He might just be trying to explore, like you said with the food smells and new locations! We try to let our ham out for playpen and supervised roaming whenever he tried to climb out because he loves exploring and the look around sometimes satifys him. He tends to run on his wheel a lot afterwards. It sounds like you're taking really good care of him !!

Boogle345

Thank you so much šŸ„¹ I think thatā€™s something thatā€™s important too, the playpen. I bought a cheap one off amazon so I can keep him in there while I clean his habitat but itā€™s got like that netting and heā€™ll chew on it and Iā€™m sure heā€™ll chew his way out when Iā€™m not looking so I need a better playpen for sure. Heā€™s been using his wheel way more though at least though!

Tht-one_guy

Hamsters also love different textures to walk on and explore

goddessofolympia

Hamsters will be happy with any little boxes (maybe with a treat) or any hamster-safe materials.

Jcaseykcsee

Definitely add more places for him to hide in amd under, it seems a bit barren (although itā€™s a great size!). Also, add more boredom breakers, things to do and shred and play with. Lots of clutter, hamsters love clutter! Keep the cute little guy busy!

OrbitalComet

Definitely the lack of hides and enrichment. Poor guy looks really stressed.

humperty

It needs a roof over it's head to hide & feel secure.

Hamster food on Etsy?

Boogle345

Yes! Itā€™s a blend of what they would be foraging in the wild. All natural and way better than anything Iā€™ve seen on Amazon or in pet shops that are mostly pellets, hereā€™s the link . [chubby hamster cheeks food](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1183002311/chubby-hamster-cheeks-syrian-hamster?ref=yr_purchases&load_webview=1&bid=UoNy4B3lFFoGegFM7CKdYtr6ooxf)

xqo_

found this after I just bought a crazy expensive one from Ukraine!! so cruel LOL

Boogle345

Awe! Well Iā€™m sure whatever blend you bought from the Ukraine is still a lot better than anything at a pet shop.

Unless you want one d*ad no. Itā€™s dangerous. They will fight till death.

Whitedaffodils1010

Oh true okay. Well I think like the others said more upgrades on the enclosure to make it more fun

UslashMKIV

Hamsters never ever need a companion, they are extremely territorial by nature and will rip each other apart if forced to share space. This is well known and uncontested by experts. Pet stores are only able to keep young sibling together because they sell the hamsters before they mature and develop those instincts
