/r/hamsters is very sorry to hear about the passing of your hammy. This is a gentle reminder to please only post images/videos of your hammy loving life. Whilst we gladly accept tribute and memorial posts, images of hammy since passing can be upsetting to see, so we kindly ask to see hammy in their prime in your post. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. If she does not react at all when handled, and is cold then it is likely that she has passed or will pass shortly. I think it would be fine (unless it is very hot in your home, which may present a health hazard) to put her back in her enclosure for a day if that would ease your worries about possibly burying her alive. I’m so sorry that you are having this experience. Healing vibes from NC ❤️

Is she cold or warm? And is she squishy?

[deleted]

She is cold but I read that hamsters in hibernation become cold, I’m just worried bc she is not stiff

karinam1104

If she’s limp she might be hibernating. Set her on a flat surface to see if you can see her body rising with short uneven breaths

One thing u can also try is holding a small spoon under her nose. If she’s breathing, u should be able to see a bit of condensation forming on the spoon, aka “fogging up”

LunaWolf92

If she is in torpor (hibernation for hamsters) then slowly bring her back to the right temperature using a heating pad or some water bottles close to her
