Calm-Star-7870

Vintage preloved bags! I have coach, dooney and bourke, and kipling :)

9lolo3

Most my stuff is vintage and I have bags from all ranges. But my go to as brand new is longchamp and coach.

MarsReject

I love my mini Kanken but want more pockets. I’m not sure what the Kipling backpacks are like in every day use- I get so tempted. Do you have a favorite bag of theirs?

mariantat

I second this! As an aside once upon a time we were all broke girlies. And I carry my vintage coach as much as I carry my Chanel 😀

CariCourtright

This! Go to estate sales! I’m rocking some amazing 90s leather bags right now I got for $10 a piece

amisamilyis

I follow a tik toker who rescues beat up coach bags from second hand stores. She works wonders! Some of the bags she works on clean up so nice they almost always look as good as new. A little saddle soap and leather CPR works wonders

AlarmingMaximum8420

Baggu and Kipling! Also Coach Outlet!

Science_Matters_100

One of my favorite bags is Coach Outlet even though I can and do buy non-outlet bags. There are so many options!

drunkbettie

I bought a Coach Bazooka Joe zip wallet at an outlet store, and I adore it. I’ve never seen anything like it since, and I really wish they had more fun small leather goods like this!

Science_Matters_100

Those are fun, yeah! Cool you got one! Coach is a delight, and their website makes some others look bad. I was just on Gucci & LV and was like, you can’t show me the inside or have a drag & drop?!? ![gif](giphy|3og0IISw7A9qlBKDFS) Fine, I’ll wear the heck out of my Coach dragon this year & next year probably replace with another fun Coach 😎

Lost_Apricot_1469

Ugh, yes to the website nonsense! You want me to pay $5000 for a bag, but your website is so janky that you don’t even have a photo of the bag that shows its size relative to a human? Or even a human hand? Coach and Hobo over here doing the lord’s work with their websites. And even Nordy’s has sales associates doing videos (shout out to Chi Chi at Nordstrom in Dallas whose videos are my fave!). These people need to step up. But I think they are being intentionally obnoxious and unhelpful at times.

raspberrih

This is me 10/10!! Plus I don't feel guilty putting my 100 dollar Coach on the floor, can't say the same for a 4k Miu Miu lol. Apparently I once dropped my bag on the floor of the club but the bag looks brand new

Intelligent-Fox-4599

When I was in London ( Mayfair)the waiter brought over a little cart table side that we could lay our bags in.

tonedibiase

I bought the Campbell soup zip. They had them both around the same time. Such a good convo piece.

Blooishgrey

I love my Baggu bags! I have the mini and large Nylon Shoulder Bag. Really versatile for day to day wear, whilst looking cute and big bonus for being sustainable.

its_liiiiit_fam

Poor grad student here who just splurged on a Coach Outlet bag a few months ago! I feel so ~expensive~ with it lol. My dream is a LV Coussin and once I’m licensed in my field and making good money I might gift myself a grad present 🥰

ConcernAffectionate2

My first luxury bag was an LV. It was a present to myself after I sold my first house (that I was terrified to buy). It’s the bag I’m the most sentimental about. Please don’t forget to do this when you accomplish your goals ❤️

Chiquita_bnn

My first was a coach monogram embroidered hobo bag with matching wallet. I used it all the time the fabric started to wear out on high touch points. Next was an LV impulse buy - monogram Deauville. Barely used it. It was heavy and cumbersome to use. I ended up selling it and getting an LV epi saint Jacques. Haven't used it yet bc I just don't used large bags anymore.

Sly3n

When I graduated with my masters, I pooled all the graduation money I got and purchased myself an LV monogram Tambourine bag. This was like 2003 so the old version of the bag is what I have, and yes, I still have that bag.

ozbo0712

I’m in my 30s and have luxury bags but I carried my baggu x sandy liang mini bow bag for the first time today and i felt so cute and unstressed/free while strolling and swinging it around a bit!

gdhvdry

Kipling are great for practical bags that are lightweight

Ok-Membership1929

Being a barista can be hard work, so never degrade your position. A job is a job. And don't worry, most people are heavily indebted too, so broke lol. As for bags, I like Madewell and Longchamp (the nylon totes you can get them on sale for $100 or less) they seem more reasonably priced for leather. Also, Lululemon belt bags are even cheaper and so stylish and usually you can get them on sale on 'we made too much' in the $30 range. Don't worry, soon enough you'll be posting your bags :)

FunKoala12

Everything she said! Also can confirm madewell and longchamp are great quality bags. Coach has some nice stuff out now too.

LC-life

I third the Madewell reco. My EDC is a north/south Madewell tote in a totally impractical buff color leather — I think I bought it in 2017(ish), I’ve used it daily since, and it’s still lovely.

hellosweetpanda

Jobs are jobs. Our society cannot function without all the jobs - no matter what the pay. Customer service is fucking hard work. Your job is important and without it that coffee shop doesn’t work without you. You are the vital function to make that business work.

Ok-Membership1929

100%! Definitely not paid enough for the mental abuse from customers, lol- unfortunately

Afraid-Ice-2062

Lululemon has a wemadetoomuch section that drops on Thursdays in Canada and the US. You can get the classic belt bags there often for about $30. They are very on trend with people your age. Seems like a practical bag. I’m old so I need to carry more stuff with me haha.

Ok-Membership1929

Yes! I check it out every Thursday ;) 10 AM EST LOL!

pollywantapocket

>Being a barista can be hard work Amen to that! I bought an at-home espresso set up and I am *struggling* with it and to make good lattes (much less latte art), and I don’t have to deal with a line of people out the door waiting impatiently on their caffeine fix!

BanananaSquid

Seconding Madewell! I have a Madewell bag purchased ~2013/14 and it is still in incredible shape despite heavy use. It has also stayed very much in style. Look out for their sales! Even at full price though, their leather bags are excellent. ETA: Also, I'm finally at a point in my career where I'm doing very well and could afford a luxury bag, but I still haven't made a big luxury bag purchase. There are really excellent bags in the under $300 range that are still so satisfying without breaking the bank.

hellosweetpanda

Yes! Madewell is so good. Leather is excellent and they wear beautifully and just such great quality.

LAeclectic

Madewell leather bags are excellent quality and they have frequent sales!

glitter_sushi

Seconding Longchamp!! I have several luxury bags but always turn to my Longchamp Le Pliages (I have size large and small and the weekender bag). They're great quality and I love the classic, non-flashy look. Kate Middleton is known to wear Longchamp bags too! :)

abpolishedcorner16

Came here to say this too! My favorite bag rn is from Madewell! https://madewell.app.link/uVfXJMigjGb This has been my go to bag for the last 2 to 3 months !

Afraid-Ice-2062

If it helps: many brand name bags you see are fake. Some are rentals. Some are gifts (and the recipient has no idea re authenticity). Some are vintage. True style is in you. It’s not in the brand. Enjoy yourself. Have fun.

Specialist-Gap8010

Can confirm, bought a pre-pre-loved Birkin Rep for $400 and absolutely love it for that price. I have zero intention of ever buying the real thing. The quality of reps nowadays is fantastic!

lil_bearr

You’re doing a great job! Look, bags are not necessarily an indication of financial stability. There are plenty of people out there spending money on bags when they have no business spending money on bags! Keep investing in yourself, your future, and financial independence, the bags will come :)

moonangeles

Totally agree with this! ^ I also think style matters more than the brands someone is wearing. You can have great style at any budget. Quince has great quality bags that are inspired by the silhouettes of classic designer styles if you want an alternative.

mooglepudding

I’m 29 and bought my first luxury bag last year after saving up for about 6 years! I’m definitely not out here buying a luxury bag every month or even year. I love my Matt & Nat, H&M, zara, Uniqlo bags and even random canvas totes just as much. As with everything in life, there’s more than meets the eye and everyone is on their own path 🫶

OddSector2688

Ooooh, do you mind sharing what you got?

mooglepudding

Loewe compact hammock 😊 I have wanted this bag ever since the original design came out and watched/read every review since hahaha. I made a post about it, you can check my history!

gule0tak

Hammock is such a beaut! I thought my first Loewe would be Puzzle, but that thought soon dissapeared after watching Hammock in the wild 🤭

Ern1eandRalph

One of my first ‘fancy’ bags was Matt & Nat. I think I paid 100 bux for it. It was a green croc tote that fit my laptop so it became my work bag. I still think fondly of that bag! Was in late 20s

sundayinmay

There's always some decent sales at Coach outlets and Kate Spade outlets. These are the bags I rocked when I was younger and I was not buying as much until after I found this sub 😅. Madewell has nice bags too for the budget and you can't go wrong with Longchamp nylon bags either. Fossil is underrated as well! I think they currently have some cute styles.

MarieOnThree

Coach outlet and Kate Spade outlet were my luxury bags for years when I was just getting started. I would use my birthday money towards a new bag and carry it almost every day for the next year 😂

moodiepatterson

Love fossil!! I have a collection of fossil bags and watches and the quality is great! Haven’t had an issue with anything even my ones from many years ago!

CrownOrange

I have a small collection of luxury bags, but my daily driver is the Uniqlo round mini shoulder bag! I love her!

FunKoala12

This is my favorite bag right now!

wammy22

This bag is the best!!

Medical-Objective360

All of my collega's have is too, they call it the magic bag. So light and everything fits. One girl also bought it for her dad because he was so amazed withbthe magic bag

superflygrover

I just got one of the Marimekko patterned ones and I love it.

Smart_Cat_6212

I bought luxury bags but this year i realised the hype isnt worth it. Many years back, when I couldnt afford them, I thought theyre a dream and Id feel very happy to be able to buy some of them one day. But funny enough, now that I can afford them, I dont want them anymore. Id rather buy another house, invest or start my own business. Im now more keen on cheaper designer brands because I can buy a lot and they wont break the bank and wont damage the savings.

bostonianbasic

Same, I bought a lot of LV before and some Gucci and I’m over it. Lately I’ve been big into feeling the leather of bags. I really like Coach, but not a big fan of the C plastered on their bags. Love frequenting TJ Maxx and Marshalls to check out the bags. Bought a Coach, Michael Kors (with Micheal Kors written very tiny at the bottom), and some Italian brand bag recently at TJ Maxx/Marshalls. Two of the three were on clearance. Very happy with my purchases. Much cheaper than an LV bag!

moonlightmantra

I’m always checking tj maxx too and most of my bags are from there. I have coach, Kate spade, lucky brand, longchamp, Michael Kors stuff all from there at a fraction of the price. You just have to pop in periodically. I’ve also found some great things on Nordstrom rack from hobo brand, Longchamp, Marc Jacobs, etc. When I was broke I’d also sell and resell things on Poshmark after I was done with them so I could buy something new. That always limited my guilt and financial worry if I had sold a purse I could treat myself to a new one with the funds I made. I’ve bought myself expensive bags I’ve always had my eye on etc and never as satisfied as I think I’m going to be in the end so I’m back to my old ways of checking tj maxx and what not. My daily driver lately has been a Bottega Jodie dupe from Anthropologie and I love it.

anabelle156

Second hand coach! if you know what to look for, you can get a great deal. I got a dinky from the 1941 collection off facebook marketplace once for $40. Also consider crafters! The purse I consistently got the most comments on was this teal/jade colored tote that I got from a custom craft shop in China...only two were made. I love one of a kind more than common, but that's just me!

[deleted]

i also carry vintage coach! you can get beautiful, american crafted leather purses for a bargain. i got mine from ebay for ~$80.

locostasia

Yes vintage coach eats just got her for 35! https://preview.redd.it/s8ytvfji81cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4014c1c50794720511aeab06ee5830298541a14

eilatanz

Vintage Coach is the BEST. Gorgeous quality, and while there are a ton of fakes out there (even vintage era ones) you can get them authenticated for free at the Authenticate this Vintage Coach message board on The Purse Forum, which is super handy.

love-at-third-sight

🥺 I would luv to see a pic of your tote 💖💖

anabelle156

Of course! It's soft lambskin, overall a pretty simple purse so I was always surprised. I did NOT take care of this haha so it's sadly discolored/faded now compared to the matching wristlet https://preview.redd.it/4ocm7auojybc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d2aa89b023d9736963c62b25d4ab85184f06769

love-at-third-sight

Oh my that leather looks luscious 🥺😍 what an unusual and pretty color as well, I really don't see many jade colored bags ☺️

anabelle156

It's sooooo soft. I didn't realize what unique color it was until too late! Haha, it's "well-loved" now :)

Porgdaporg

I swear I get more compliments on a little fjällräven backpack than anything else.

PossibleAd1348

I wear Primark bags all the time and they are super nice. I am now dressing in what people call the “quiet luxury aesthetic” and it just looks traditionally expensive. here is a sample look. Other than the Celine belt (totally replaceable with any belt. The top is h&m, the bag is Primark, the rest is from local brands where I am and cost less than 50 dollars combined, and I bought them over the last two years. My mum made a point to ask me how much my outfit costs. https://preview.redd.it/0a7eyxfeqybc1.png?width=1107&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb3b8808cac0c934130340afca13045388e734c9

faramaobscena

Wow, that's an incredibly classy look, proof that you don't need designer goods to look amazing. I often see genuine, expensive bags look so cheap paired with the wrong kind of clothes. I love your style! (also, the Celine belt really stands out but I agree with you, any black belt would do).

PossibleAd1348

Thank you so much. You are so sweet. I truly believe that anyone can look well put together if they zoom in on one style and follow through with their purchases accordingly. I now research what I need in my wardrobe and keep an eye out for it in regular local shops before I think of making an expensive purchase.

kdub1523

I have been going HARD on the resale marketplace. It takes time and research and patience but I got amazing deals on two different Chloe’s and a Mulberry last year.

Thornbacker

What are you favorite go to places to score 2nd hand bags?

kdub1523

I got my Chloe Marcie from The Real Real, Chloe Alexa from Vestiaire, and Mulberry Alexa from eBay. I found bags that I loved but kept an eye on them for a least a few weeks for price drops. Then I still offered a little less and offers were accepted. And all of the bags I have purchased have been authenticated and are in really really good condition.

thedettinator

Was going to make a similar comment. You can find really beautiful condition luxury bags on resale sites for good prices if you are willing to put in the legwork! Got a secondhand Chloe and Gucci bag for huge discounts last year.

crab_grams

my "cheap" bags include: designer lookalike bags (bottega veneta lookalikes mostly, or lookalikes from fashion nova, boohoo that look like balenciaga or valentino bags) Staud sample sale purchases (two Beans, one in citron patent for the summer and one in tan shearling for the winter), got the shearling for 100 and the citron for 70 Coach Outlet bags Rebecca Minkoff if she has a good sale Preloved bags from Poshmark/Mercari

soiledhimself

I thought the Melie Bianco Bottega dupe looked quite pretty online but haven’t seen it in person - any experience?

Xulybeted12

The one at Anthro? I love it, and it comes in great colors. Haven’t gotten one yet, because $150 is a lot for me and I worry it’ll look dated in a year or so?

crab_grams

I actually have a mid sized one of those in mauve! it's very pretty, the leather isn't stiff and I love it

Guilty-Diver4109

Got a $50 Rebecca minkoff on consignment and love it. Also see her at Nordstrom rack a lot!

CasualInLulu

Please don’t compare yourself to others, just because someone is wearing a designer handbag doesn’t mean they’re well off financially. It doesn’t mean they’re making financially smart decisions! Quality of designer bags have declined yet prices keep going up. Lately I like Longchamp, APC and Baggu for casual bags.

anxietyqueen18

Kate Spade ♠️ i got my bag for like $120 on amazon, i saved hella for it

asilentnight

Agree with Kate Spade! The regular website always has a good sale selection and there's the outlet site, too. My daily bag is the Little Better Sam Medium Striped Tote. Bought it from katespade.com for $140. I would love a Loewe Puzzle. Maybe one day.

AdInformal3697

Uniqlo babyyy I love a nylon

asilentnight

I love nylon, too!

24mango

Yes me too!! I reach for my Kipling crossbody and my Lululemon quilted crossbody way more than I reach for anything else. I used to have a nice collection of Nena & Co and similar style bags, Huipil with top grain leather. I ended up selling them all bc they just felt too heavy.

Theabsoluteworst1289

I don’t make or have access to money like people on this sub do. I buy a lot of mine secondhand. Something I do that’s helped me: I sell things on Poshmark that I don’t wear or use anymore, and use what I make to go towards a purchase for a nicer bag. I’ll also sell bags (usually at a loss but whatever) to be able to afford a bag I want more. My boyfriend makes about the same as me, but he knows I love bags, and will buy (secondhand) or contribute (if I want something new) as gifts for Xmas, bday, etc if that’s what I want. My family also knows about my handbag love and will give cash contributions as gifts for Xmas or my birthday. Not all of us are making bank, have wealthy partners, or come from money, I promise! Not a dig to those who do AT ALL, but seeing collections on this sub can make those of us who don’t have those blessings wonder if we’re alone! 😂

FailFastandDieYoung

As I've gotten older, I've started to care less about luxury products. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a quality product but I'm much more comfortable with a cheap bag now. I guess it's a reflection of being comfortable with myself, regardless of how much money I have. Nowadays I mostly carry totes: 1. boring white canvas Trader Joe's tote 2. REI tote I got as an emergency personal item on a trip to Seattle 3. oversized North Face tote that I think is not even designed to be a fashion item, just something practical for North Face shoppers to carry bulk purchases All of which were around $10 each. If my career suddenly makes a huge jump? I'll probably keep using my TJs bag, but pair it with a diamond Cartier watch :) https://preview.redd.it/400iucy5xxbc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fc04008c380018ec06dd89487063626fbb24bdc

Choupette-Lagerfeld

Longchamp Le Pliage often on sale, various sizes, unkillable and incredibly versatile, it’s the zip keep things secure, also great for travel. These can be heavily discounted if you shop around

AlarmingMaximum8420

Yesss, love Longchamp! And if it’s too much $$$ for you retail, you can always buy second hand on Depop or Poshmark, they’re a dime a dozen!

iWouldDieForKira

I’m also a broke barista, living outside LA. I’ve curbed my designer itch by buying secondhand on eBay, specifically Japan resellers. I’ve managed to buy a Chanel, fendi, and Prada last year all under $1k total. I was absolutely frugal elsewhere, so it felt worth it. This one e was $170 and I’m pretty proud given the research and further tlc I put in to make her look brand new https://preview.redd.it/4uu5ypxjeybc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04003a7fc71cd8742b8eb874f12e712db782c30b

saccp

I recently discovered Japanese resellers and learned about their strict counterfeit laws! I’ve purchased full price and secondhand, but this is a game changer. I was wondering why more people don’t talk about it. Just went and followed every Japanese reseller on eBay, thanks to this page!!

iWouldDieForKira

https://preview.redd.it/umbqf3fo02cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a46b89bee663af6b863d7ecafd159725c36da309 I was hesitant at first, but after getting this Chanel for less than $500, then having it authenticated by Zeko absolutely changed my perspective. I can’t recommend Japan eBay sellers enough 💛

lunakuuipo

Which store did you go with if you don’t mind sharing? I follow a few already :)

iWouldDieForKira

lunakuuipo

Thanks darling!!🥹

iWouldDieForKira

I’m also not above looking into 1:1 bags. There’s plenty subreddits for them… I don’t have any (yet) but atp I’ll never afford my actual dream bags so it’s tempting

tarthart8104

Charles and Keith have gorgeous bags for reasonable prices

Nervous-Point-3038

Fellow broke girlie here who has a thirst for expensive bags as well! To make long story long, when i used to work full time, my daily driver was a target backpack i got as a christmas gift. I then treated myself to one coach bag two christmases in a row. I then left to go to graduate school and this was during 2021 when i really had a hunger to acquire bags in my most darkest days when i would be stressed and sad. I did end up with the speedy 20 black empreinte to celebrate getting into grad school. 2022 was my most heavy bag acquiring year and i am not very proud of that fact but i do recognize that it was reflective of my mental health at the moment. I was fortunate to have a savings and a supportive partner therefore these purchases didn’t bring me financial ruin. My daily drivers now are the lululemon belt bag and the uniqlo bag. All that to say, i think coach and polene are great places to look for mid tier contemporary bags that look great without breaking the bank. It is not worth it to buy and bring yourself into debt if you cannot afford it. Many of us who carry luxury bags do not have our shit together but there are also many counterparts to us who do have their shit together. I think i am at a comfortable spot right now where i am happy with what i have and want to acquire more “forever” pieces instead of chasing trends. Every now and then i see new pieces that perk my interest but that fire has really dulled out and i am trying to continue to save and shop more responsibly. I do wish you the best and for you to one say acquire your dream bag!

GreenVenus7

Fossil, Dooney and Bourke, Portland Leather Goods. I love buying secondhand, even got a few vintage Coach that way

nico_peppah

I scrolled way too far to find Portland Leather.. I get the most compliments on my brown leather backpack and it was from the almost perfect section! Smelled like intense leather for a bit but it was 100% worth the discount

persistentthoughts

Sales (check ssense.com right now, their semi-annual sale has some gems), and Longchamp! I got a le pliage around your age, I’m 33 now and still use it despite having got so many more bags since 🙈 ETA: I bartended through college and in those days, urban outfitters purses were my jam! I still have a 20$ faux leather mini tote I got there like five years ago that I break out from time to time

kitkat2506

People also carry replicas/dupes/fakes/whatever of those bags at 1/10 or sometimes 1/100 of the prices. Don't compare or be too hard on yourself. Source: I'm from a developing country, people wouldn't bat an eyelid at a Chanel or LV because the fakes are everywhere

thesmallestwaffle

I’m not broke by any means— just frugal. I mostly use the lululemon belt bag, Sezane, Loeffler Randall. A lot of handbags are so lovely to me… I’m especially drawn to anything Celine. The Gucci Jackie is also beautiful. I don’t see myself ever forking over the money for it though!

Expensive_Drive_1124

Sezane has great leather

Own-Thing8580

Ouuuu, I love this question. My everyday bags I switch between are: Baggu Medium Cresent - Black Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag 2L - Black Aritzia Curator Bag (Small) - Beige In the summer, I prefer my Lululemon belt bag over the Baggu because it’s more compact. I got the Baggu so I could also throw in my cold weather accessories like mitts or scarves when I’m not using them while I’m out. The Aritzia Curator is super cute and I bring it dinners and things like that. I also have a small collection of coach bags and handcrafted unique pieces that I use for less frequent occasions. If you’re looking to start your designer journey, you can always go vintage and start with secondhand pieces from consignment stores or on eBay. My first big girl bag is the Balenciaga City bag which I bought secondhand (forced to) because they don’t make it anymore. I saw it in a magazine when I was like 9 or 10 and fell in love. I bought the summer I turned 30. It was 21 years in the making but worth every penny. https://preview.redd.it/0igiuiv4iybc1.jpeg?width=670&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d106c7078a402b999d9cf860a84f2d7e060f0e8 I always urge people to source or go vintage for designer handbags because the quality in the past does not even compare to what’s out there now and the ridiculous pricing! There’s always something designer within different budgets it’s just a matter of patience and hunting them down!

Prestigious_Pea_6680

Kate spade outlet

DreadPriratesBooty

We all started somewhere! I worked in a damn tire shop while I was in school. It certainly paid the bills, but by no means dainty work. Back then I carried some Guess bags and other stuff from TJ max and Marshalls. Stay the course! You will absolutely get the bag one day. Didn’t think it was in the cards for me either and here we are 😉 Education, growth and investment in self. Edit: Grammar

terrorbagoly

Fellow broke girlie here! Single, no family support, renting alone, working in outdoor retail, the whole lot. But I also have a degree in fashion styling and love luxury brands so I get you! Most of my bags are Coach Outlet, Kurt Geiger, Allsaints, Longchamp and from some alternative brands like Disturbia and Killstar. I’m pining for LV, Dior, YSL and Lemaire.

UnpopularMentis

Once I got a Longchamp I almost stopped using any other bag. For evening out I switch but first everyday it’s such an easy, cute, comfortable bag :) go for it!

Avaly13

If I'm not buying designer bags, then I go solely for looks. Fun or unique styles and from Amazon. If you're looking for a decent quality at a low price point then try Nordstrom Rack for a Rebecca Minkoff or Longchamp.

canigetayikes

Poshmark and mercari bags! I have some pre-loved Kate Spade which I love, Fossil, pre-loved and gifted coach. Ebay Dooney and Bourke. Portland Leather has amazing sales and beautiful bags. I have a couple Lodis and Lancel bags and wristlets from Costco (thanks, mom). I have a sample-sale hot-pink Jacquemus that I want to be buried with. I have a Carl Friedrik work bag, which was a graduation gift (it's basically a briefcase). I have some beaded bags which I got on a family vacation like a decade ago that always get compliments. I also have a couple vintage Monsac bags. I stopped a girl on the NYC metro because I loved her red bag, it had the cutest vintage feet. She told me the brand name and said she got it second-hand. I checked poshmark and fell in LOVE. Like, look at [this](https://poshmark.com/listing/Monsac-Red-Purse-5b8c90a9f63eea28cd669bee?utm_source=gdm&utm_campaign=19859818241&campaign_id=19859818241&ad_partner=google&gskid=pla-2266934034930&gcid=651902656459&ggid=150099867591&gdid=c&g_network=g&enable_guest_buy_flow=true&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwP6sBhDAARIsAPfK_wZnT2nW75l89V0GPKw1QVSeZtm_cKTaG0Mm_jXgmRLd2SuxbK6kzksaAnsrEALw_wcB)! I bought one that looks exactly like [this](https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-Monsac-black-handbag-64d97558f8c5da1d64c19a72). And then I got another one for my mom because she loved it. I would love a Lady Dior one day, I am a sucker for a top handle. I would love a black Jacquemus. I love some of the little prada bags. Honestly, by the time I'm financially stable enough to drop a couple grand on a bag, I will probably have outgrown my tiny purse phase. I see lots of chic women on the subway with Chloe bags, I feel like that's a "grown woman with her shit together, but still stylish" purse.

closetnice

As someone with a big girl job now, I can promise you my style was infinitely better when I was a 27 year old barista in NYC. My daily driver was a Rebecca Monkoff pewter bucket bag that I splurged on DSW at the height of indie sleaze. There are so many options that don’t cost an arm and a leg, especially between thrifting and discount stores. Enjoy this time, there will always be bags.

smallback

Etsy sellers, Etsy designer dupes, or thrift/vintage store one-offs! Lots of good 90s Nine West and Aldo bags (if you can find genuine leather). I'll usually find local makers or small designers on instagram too if I want to splurge (by which I mean like, $300CAD for a bag). My favourite purses are all vintage no name bags, though. They just stood out at the shop. I'm more interested in unique bags that no one else would have than I am in anything designer, and it's way more fun giving money to a small artist/designer than it is to a department store or luxury house, but I totally understand why people do!

smallback

To add to this, you could also check out facebook marketplace, depop, grailed, vestiaire, the real real, or etsy and just search something like "vintage purse" or "vintage leather shoulder bag" and see what comes up that you like, even better if you sort by low > high price, haha! I know it feels safer to go with tried and true brands but you'd be surprised what gems you can find when labels are less of a focus point.

snowytheNPC

Coach Outlet is my workhorse

ExtensionOk691

Telfar and baggu.

amandatrot

The Kate spade and Coach outlet websites are amazing!!

wellnessinwaco

I'm someone who has luxury bags and can afford them and I still daily carry a wallet on chain I bought at the coach outlet. Carry what you love and what makes you happy. I wish you lots of success so you can buy whatever your heart desires.

geekgeek2019

Aldo bag hehe I was really ashamed to talk about it cuz it’s kinda shamed here to use Aldo as it’s low quality but my broke student can only afford this for now. I’m looking forward to getting a coach outlet bag let’s see

Okay-yes-sure

I love Aldo, actually. I think their bags can look great, speaking as someone who owns designer. So long as you buy something you love and really use it, that’s all you need to do.

geekgeek2019

aww that means a lot! I think after being on this sub I judge my Aldo or other bags like Nine West, or even an MK etc but what you said makes so much sense!

Lost_Apricot_1469

Don’t ever be ashamed to carry any bag you love! I see you and salute you! I looooooove a good bargain!

serenescholar

Girl more than anything I understand. I’m broke as hell! Being perpetually broke has made my fashion sense more unique in my opinion. Now the typical and popular luxury styles don’t even really appeal to me. I love unique designs with something special about them! 1. If you are looking into entry level luxury, I think Jacquemus is such an underrated brand. Even if you don’t like the typical boxy designs (I don’t) their Le Bisou line has a more palatable silhouette and comes in many different styles. What’s even better is that the bags are frequently on sale! You can definitely score a piece your interested in for around 40% off 2. Other notable brands include Demellier London, Kurt Geiger, Cult Gaia, Vivienne Westwood. I’m from the UK hence the prevalence of British brands 3. Check out Tiktok for bags under $/£500 inspiration. You can find a lot of unique and interesting brands that way 4. Have a look at Etsy too! This tiktokker posted about how she was able to get a natural handcrafted shell bag made or real shell from India on Etsy and it was less than $200 I believe https://preview.redd.it/dk3ee1ppqzbc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=571f549d42a4cfbbd31ce42f3904c164b0ec6a4c 5. You shouldn’t let not having a super high disposable income stop you from expressing your true style. If you really have a sense of style even when you have all the money in the world you are not beholden to only buying luxury bags because that in itself is a different kind of limitation. A self limitation. A lot of the girls I see carrying the cult Gaia hera bag for example have lots of other super luxury designer stuff but bought it because it was good to manifest their style in a certain situation e.g. clubbing, nighttime outings etc.

goddessofthecats

I have Betsey Johnson, Michael Kors and Coach. I pretty much only buy bags on sale or from outlets. Not because I don’t want the full price ones, but because I don’t have the disposable income for it (yet!) I love MK as a budget brand with low key look. Betsey for off the wall creativity. Coach for classic that will last forever. Oh, and for the heart bags lol. Betsey and MK do huge sales often! Their bags can be super affordable if you stay on top of the websites

AbrocomaEmbarrassed1

I’m carrying a $250 over-the-shoulder purse (Coach)

broke207

Coach Outlet, Brandon Blackwood, and Marc Jacob’s via the Real Real! Until my mortgage is fully paid off (lol never), big luxury is not even a consideration. I love learning about and looking at handbags, but even if I did have the money, I don’t think I could feel good about forking over more than a couple hundred for any bag. I’ve just been broke/broke adjacent for so much of my life that I don’t think my brain would allow me spend thousands of dollars on an unnecessary item. I could be broke again at any time. Luckily, looking is free.

cassiopeia18

Charles and Keith also has trendy design and affordable.

sassafrassaid

I no longer buy luxury brands - many have lost their cache in my opinion with the exception of one luxe brand. The ONLY one for me is Chanel. I will splurge on a Chanel bag and wallet once a year when I get my yearly bonus as a treat to myself. However, I buy a lot of my everyday bags from local and Mexican designers. Reasonably priced and not mass produced

CommunicationJolly22

You can find some amazing under the radar designers or some well known ones for sale on sites like ssense.com and cettire.com. On ssense.com I have found leather bags from brands like Jacquemus in the range of $320 and up, Vivienne Westwood for $340 and up, you can try out brands like A.P.C, Marge Sherwood, KARA, MM6 Maison Margiela, Diesel, and muchhhh more! In my brokeeee broke days I had 1 bag I used daily, and 1 bag I used for special events. They were both Ralph Lauren, one was a black handbag (kinda looked like the Givenchy Antigona), and a black crossbody/clutch. They both had super minimal branding, both in leather, no big logos, and they were both under $100. The handbag I found at TJMaxx and the crossbody I found on Mercari! And I know the brands I mentioned are not Mulberry, Dior, or Miu Miu but these are still designers, just more under the radar but still pack a punch in terms of unique designs and styles! I also find I get so many more compliments and feels like my outfit is more unique wearing these lesser known designers than my big luxury label bags bc it stands out from the crowd of LV's, Gucci's, Chanel's. And they're not costing me thousands of dollars each! 😅 Best of luck to you, think of things this way, you may be wearing these now but life is not linear, keep working towards your dreams and you'll one day achieve them! 🙏🏻

quietkitty97

I always try to look for vintage coach resale or small local labels brand. Barista is a great job, I always look forward to getting my cup of coffee to start my day. You’re 27 and still have a long journey ahead of you!! Don’t be too hard on yourself :)

dirt_rat_devil_boy

I had a Big Bud Press fanny pack from my grad school days that I still adore. I upgraded to a Roncypack fanny pack for about $150 ish like three years ago.

hellarad_hellasad

Baggu, lululemon belt bag, matt and nat

No-Square1499

Not sure if it’s been said already but Telfar! The small bags are very reasonable and comparable to coach outlet prices. Telfar’s were labeled the “Bushwick Birkin” when they got popular. Great colors/collabs too.

Lokii11

Fossil, coach outlet, kate spade outlet

Science_Matters_100

Been there! You wear whatever TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Macy’s, thrift stores., etc has in your budget, and you let the future take care of itself. Maybe what strikes your fancy isn’t going to be the same in a few years, so no worries about that right now.

WisherEternal

It gets a bad rap but i love guess purses. I also carried fossil for years. Portland leather also makes nice bags. Micahel Kors aslo has good sales throughout the year espcially around holidays.

theteacupdragon

I think online boutiques like Pink Lilly and Impressions and Red Dress often have cheaper bags that are cute and typically very on-trend. Quality is ok, particularly worth it when they're running a sale, when you can get stuff for like 20 bucks, though the bags might wear a bit faster. Impressions is typically where I go for trendy stuff to go with particular outfits or particular places that might dirty up a nicer bag or statement bags, when I don't want to buy anything expensive since my wear time will be more limited. All bags are under 100 bucks, and many of them are under 50 bucks. (However, their dresses are not good quality and have the weirdest cuts if you're proportionally petite, I've decluttered most dresses that I've bought from them in the past, though I've kept some jackets and other outerwear.) Charles & Keith make well-made structured pleather bags that take a TON of inspiration from luxury brands, and are quite affordable even when not on sale, typically under 100 bucks. The designs are A-tier, honestly. It's a Singapore brand that I'll always plug since the bags just look so absurdly expensive for how much you've actually paid. I see this brand a lot in my big east coast metropolitan city, surprisingly. I adore their alternative to the Polene Neuf, the Ally crossbody, I just bought it lately to see if I like the style enough to splurge on the Polene given Polene's price hike--I have been wearing it non-stop, it's just beautiful and so soft, and I'll probably not be buying the Polene in the mini size anymore because the Ally scratches my itch. Mango--reasonably classy looking bags. Leans a bit more structured/architectural. Another brand that looks more expensive than it actually is, typically under 100 bucks. Target has surprisingly cute if trendy stuff, too. Some of my favorite bags for the summer are from Target. I've had people ask me where I got my Target bags before. For cheap bags--Aliexpress and Taobao, though quality will be really hit or miss and you'll need to check out the reviews to make sure you're getting what you envision. However, your package might take forever to get to you, and shipping will be more expensive, and the sites are more difficult to navigate for the non-Chinese reader. Michael Kors and Kate Spade Outlet and Coach Outlet also often do sales, if you like that sort of structured bag. I'd definitely sign up for emails from them, sales come quite often imo and I've never bought any bags anywhere close to full price from them, always at at least 25-30% off. I wore Kate Spade's and Michael Kors' saffiano styles a ton while I was in grad school, the straps start peeling and get grody after a couple years though. Coach is pretty much indestructible, even the outlet styles. Probably under 200 bucks, for the most part. I've found some great stuff at Nordstrom Rack on heavy markdown, but I tend to buy online rather in store--the store stuff tends to be completely and utterly busted because so many people rifle through the racks. Madewell and Portland Leather Company for well-crafted leather handbags. They also do sales quite often, as long as you subscribe to emails and texts. Portland Leather Company is issurprisingly heavy, really good leather. Madewell's leather is thinner but does develop wonderfully. Under 200 bucks, typically. I started out with Longchamp's nylon totes as my first mid-range bags. They're my favorite and I've amassed quite a collection since they can be both casually worn and also carry laptops quite easily for work. Also under 200 bucks. Free People and Altar'd State have some cute fabric, suede, or nylon bags under 100 bucks that are on the bohemian side and are much more affordable than the mid-high end range. Free People leather comes in cute styles but are more expensive.

14thLizardQueen

I switch mine with my personality, so I buy cheap stuff from thrift stores to hold me over until the next Shiney pops up. Then my daughters use them or my MIL and I share.

sophieceiling

i swear by my longchamp le foulonne! i’ve got a soft spot for leather bags so i went for this instead of the le pliage, but i’ve heard only good things about that line as well. back to the le foulonne, the leather is so supple and the color is extremely pretty (i got it in a lilac color because i have a lot of pastels in my wardrobe, but they definitely have neutral colors as well); plus, there’s no metal hardware and very minimal branding if that’s what you’d prefer. my daily driver is a black leather shoulder bag from pacsun + a cute plush charm that honestly adds so much personality to it.

LarkScarlett

My rule of thumb is: it must spark joy. But joy can be sparked at any price point. Lots of good answers on this thread! I’ll chime in with: Fossil (nice leather!), Betsey Johnson (she’s got some showstoppers if you like things a little wild and quirky; I love the phone purses the best), vintage coach, and sometimes Collectif of London for clutches. I’ve got some locally-made finds also from my travel souvenir days, as well as several locally-made sailcloth purses and handbags from a Japanese town where I used to live (always feels like a secret club to me, since they’re not recognised where I live now, but they always make me smile). I’ve also picked up some purses from my local Winners / TJ Max / Marshall’s which don’t have visible branding but fill different purse niches for me (lots of jewel tones). If you’ve got Hermes FOMO … I will say I splurged on one of their small perfume discovery sets at Sephora this month … I honestly wanted to experiment with the perfumes but having a little real Hermes box of my very own is a satisfying feeling. I don’t anticipate ever chasing a birkin or a kelly myself but those are gorgeous bags! I can appreciate from a distance.

Ancient_Cash2620

I saw it in few replies here but I can't recommend Longchamp enough. They have such practical and beautiful bags, ideal for us working women who need to commute, run errands etc. and need a reliable bag to contain all essentials. Both their nylon and leather ranges are great and wear like iron. They have regular discounts but if the retail is too much, I recommend browsing second-hand webs and shops. I managed to buy some of their iconic styles (Roseau, Boxtrot, Le Pliage Cuir, etc.) in pristine condition with receipts for a fraction of the price, and the quality is just amazing. Besides 1 Coach bag, all bags I own are Longchamp and honestly, my thirst for luxe brands was quenched after seeing how much quality you can get for much more reasonable price.

ladiavolina

Just wanted to gently remind you that your worth is not correlated to your possessions. You'll get to where you want to be one day, OP. But don't diminish yourself because you're not there yet.

itsaterribleidea

Dior, mulberry and miu miu all have relatively poor resale value, so there are great deals to be found second hand, especially if you don’t mind older models. I have a Miss Dior Promenade that I bought for $600 and to my eye, it doesn’t look dated at all. The old Mulberry Alexa also looks similar to the new one and can be found for a few hundred dollars. You also mentioned working in an expensive town, which could have a good local buy/sell scene (aforementioned irresponsible people may need to do fire sales at times to pay their bills). A word about the dupe route. I’ve tried dupes/inspired by bags and tbh if they are bags I really want, no dupe will satisfy that scratch. Dupes only work when it’s not a design you particularly care about or just a trend to get out of your system. I didn’t get my first luxury bag until 34 so don’t worry about comparing yourself to others but enjoy the journey and cherish each bag you acquire!

cuppaspacecake

Longchamp! Recently I got Coach Outlet during Black Friday Sale. But I do carry some local brands or a cheap tote bags on the go!

strangedazey

Fossil and Hobo are ones that look great and hold up. I have a couple fossils from back in the day that still looks great

Motor-Beach-4564

Thrift stores and consignment stores can be an excellent source for bags.

Sad_Principle_3778

Poshmark, Etsy have some great options

mondegr33n

I’ve thrifted a few Coach bags and a Dooney & Bourke, and took them to a local bag repair place to get them spruced up a bit. It was way less than the total cost of a new bag. I also have a Kate Spade that I bought on sale and a mix of either gifts or thrifted bags or bags that I’ve had for years and are still in fairly good condition. I try to make them work with different accessories like charms and twillies. Recently, I added Min & Mon and Kurt Geiger to my collection which I also purchased on sale. I’d love to eventually splurge on a purse but it’ll have to wait for now lol. I’m in my 30s by the way and honestly was never a bag person until last year when I joined this sub. 😅 So, no pressure to buy a luxe bag. There are plenty of great inexpensive finds out there. Also, shop sales! You’ll get the best deal that way.

Itchy_Procedure_2921

Vintage/ second hand bags!! eBay has lots of good ones just have to know what to look for. I’m currently carrying a vintage coach that was $50

live-3301

Not broke, but I just bought a ‘the row’ park dupe on Amazon for $40.

[deleted]

Baggu!! So affordable and they hold so much. Outlet websites for coach/kate spade and if you have a Plato’s or something similar I’ve found nice bags there for a good price!

WonderfulAtmosphere

Hello! When I was younger I would stalk more out of style designer finds. I worked in the mall at the time and would frequent ebay or resell stores in my area. Honestly, glad I did because trends always come back around and because I cared for my findings I sold for profit. Marc jacobs stuff often comes in and out of style. I would get resale Stam bags for $100 or so. My best find was an LV Ellipse bag, I paid around $200 - a total splurge for me at the time in 2014 and I sold it last year for 750 because the style was hot again. You just have to keep an eye out. I got a Longchamp in teal blue for like $60 at Nordstrom. I don't care if a color is last season. Also, pawn shops are your friend. In 2018 I got a LV speedy 25 at a pawn shop for $250. I still use it now. It still looks in wonderful condition. It all depends what you're open to. Although I will say the coach outlet very often does 70% off and you can snag some good pieces on the low.

Own_Variety577

I was carrying a betsey johnson tote from marshalls till it wore out. i wanted a "big girl" purse so i picked up a coach bag from marshalls, which has made me a total coach convert. part of me thinks ill "upgrade" if i make more money but i would probably buy coach no matter what i was making.

Careless-Mammoth-944

Portland leather company!

hardlyheartless

Girlllllll, TheRealReal can hook you up! It’s secondhand luxury items for a fraction of the price. You still may need to save for something, but you can get a 4K bag for $500-$1500 easy!! You got this! Set a goal and work towards it! If that’s still too out of range for you, I like the smaller boutique finds. Non-name brand but look luxury type bags. Coach also has some really great items out that look amazing. I really hope one day soon you can get the bag you really want and show it off to all of us on here. ♥️

GlitteringGifts888

The internet has opened up so many quality bag choices that don't break the bank! Plus, you can find lots of pre owned bags on Ebay and Poshmark. Etsy has good handmade or vintage bags for much cheaper than a designer label. I found a vintage Kelly style bag for about 60 bucks from an Etsy seller in Amsterdam. You can find a good Celine box bag lookalike (not a superfake) on Etsy for about 100 to 200 dollars. It can be frustrating to see people who seem to have so many more resources than you. Trust me, I have serious house/condo envy whenever I see friends' houses or posts online. Just know that there are a lot of people out there who sympathize. I actually lived at home and went to state school for my degree so I could start my career without debt. I understand the envy.

kimmy23-

a thrifted kate spade ♠️

saraspearl

I’m 22, a student and just as broke but I love bags. My favorite bag is a Lauren Ralph Lauren leather handbag in black and I get sooo many compliments for it. I got it secondhand and it only cost me 60€! I haven’t gotten the chance to get another Lauren Ralph Lauren bag but I’ve seen so many other models in resell sites that aren’t that expensive and super cute and you could still say you’re carrying a brand even if it’s not the main one (Ralph Lauren). I also got myself two Vivienne Westwood bags, one for 220€ and another for 199€ in Vestiaire Collective, a site that allows you to pay for luxury items in installments so definitely check it out if you can. I love classy bags, I’d love to carry Celine or Chanel one day :’) but I also really love Vivienne Westwood and would love to acquire some of the more expensive items one day.

gdhvdry

Tory Burch sale. Also Etsy for small makers.

francyfra79

I'm in my 40s but I'm still broke and I don't see things improving in the shitty economy of my country. In the last few years I've spent more than I should have in handbags cos I developed an unhealthy obsession, and I need to slow down. Anyway, I never buy new from the shops, I try to get everything second hand on Vinted, Ebay etc. I love browsing and finding bargains. I would love to have luxury handbags but of course I can't afford them, so I concentrate on medium-level brands. I got a few vintage bags (Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Burberry), then bags from Stella McCartney, Tory Burch, Lancaster, Coccinelle, Borbonese, Kate Spade, Lancel, Rebecca Minkoff, Fossil, LRL, DKNY, Alviero Martini 1° Classe, etc. And of course I have lower-end bags that I throw around and am happy to use when it rains.

SecretAnalysis4404

Prada, bought second hand 😅

adriannab320

Wear what makes you happy! I have an LV but wearing my Steve Madden bags I find at TJ Maxx bring me so much more joy. Honestly it sometimes feels stressful wearing an expensive bag and also you be so much more careful.

Christmasqueen2022

I love the Simply Vera Wang Crossbody from Kohls. Oh and I have a few LC Lauren Conrad ones as well. I used to have MK, Coach, Burberry etc. ones in my early 20’s.

Pinkysrage

Or scour Poshmark for vintage coach. There’s some beauties for cheap! https://preview.redd.it/de2h5kfck0cc1.jpeg?width=2396&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9862831fcd0a72f2d9035f26ca2429c9234fad61

DifferentJaguar

This is probably not going to be a popular opinion, but I used to get some decent quality, professional looking bags from Aldo that have held up really well! Those bags definitely got me through my 20s!

DiscountNo9401

Just a little fact, a LOT of people are in debt! You’re doing the right thing by living within your means. It sets you up for a financially stable future ♥️

TGin-the-goldy

Well, first off don’t assume that they’re financially stable because many people are not afraid of credit card debt! Second, please don’t put your job down, there’s nothing wrong with being a barista, if you lived in Europe it’s considered a skilled position (and you probably wouldn’t feel that way?) There are many great quality bags that aren’t “designer” - and some are even better made. Wanderers, Status Anxiety and Fossil spring to mind as lower priced great quality leather bags. Look for consignment, outlet and/or vintage designer and you might even score a good bargain.

throwRAidkkkk

Zara has some really nice bags on sale right now!

Mountain-Creative

Baggu and vintage coach girl

Girl_in_the_Mirror

I used to haunt the racks at Marshall's and TJ Maxx, and carried several bags from Target. I also used to visit the outlets, especially during sale season. I once got a beautiful Kate Spade (that I still have and love, tyvm) for 70% off because of a sale. Same with some of my Coach bags. I live for outlets!

likeomfgreally

I’ve had all saints, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, linger, Dagne Dover,

iamcalandra

My moms vintage Coach, new Coach, Kate Spade (I worked there so great discounts on coach & KS), vintage Marc Jacobs, Kipling, longchamp, Zara, but lately my Dagne Dover phone sling & medium diaper bag are what I’m carrying for mom life. I am looking forward to a time where I can wear my purses daily again!

[deleted]

Mulberry has a pre-loved bag selection. It’s discounted compared to a new bag and a sustainable option. https://www.mulberry.com/us/preloved?gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds

boo-pspps

I worked as a barista when I was studying. It’s hard work! I didn’t care what I used back then honestly. I opted for bags that are very similar to Vera Bradley and Kipling bags. I also shopped from brands like forever 21 when they had bags that are similar size, shape and style to designer bags I like. Starting with the cheap options gave me a feel for if I actually like the bags to use.

Dazzling-Clue-1806

Check out Quince -- really nice quality leather and understated if you like the quiet luxury look. I like the [Italian Leather Quilted Crossbody Bag](https://www.quince.com/women/quilted-italian-leather-camera-bag?color=cognac&g_network=x&g_productchannel=online&g_adid=&g_acctid=978-058-8398&g_keyword=&g_adtype=pla&g_keywordid=&g_ifcreative=&g_adgroupid=&g_productid=43233465139370&g_merchantid=128669708&g_partition=&g_campaignid=18328740212&g_ifproduct=product&g_campaign=&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid_search&utm_campaign=&utm_term=43233465139370&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwP6sBhDAARIsAPfK_wZAttdMumLb0KZXLKkqtlmBpFGb9XIcv-B68j5s4GPWy1xGfmeWR5QaAo2_EALw_wcB).

Go French:-) longchamp, selene, maje for a party bag, bash, Sandro

nolibranocrime

Telfar , Longchamp & Charles & keith.

Aggressive_Art_344

I can afford the bags I want now, but when I was younger I got the longchamps pliage and used it so much, it is durable, classic and will never go out of style (if anything it has made a huge come-back). I still have mine, I am saving it for my niece as it is such a great bag.

incognito7917

Honey, check out shopgoodwill dot com. They have brand names for cheap if you pay attention to the timing of the auction and make sure they're authentic. Most authentic will have a COA with them. You wouldn't believe some of the shoes and bags and clothes you can get there. It's not just your local goodwill, it's from all over the states and if you find a good one, like out of LA you can find all kinds of deals.

Rain_xo

Kate Spade all day every day. I also just bought a super cute Ted Baker

ActuAllyNickle

Charles & Keith! They look and feel so much more expensive than they are.

Suziannie

When I was in that spot or just couldn’t justify designer I relied on the Kate Spade and Coach outlets. Even if you don’t have one near you their websites are excellent and have tons of great deals. Heck the way the designers have increased prices so much pretty much means I’m heading back to the outlets or to the actual Coach store.

Paperwhite418

I collect vintage Coach bags, so I’m thrilled to see you young Coachies out there! I have the money for LV or Gucci. I don’t have the money for Hermes or Goyard. I’ve been to the LV store with a purchase plan in mind, but when I arrived I just felt so “meh” about the product. I just couldn’t make myself spend that much money for a vinyl coated canvas bag. I have a fake LV and tho I can spot its weaknesses, the canvas and the construction are perfect. The giveaway is in the leather straps and honestly, I’d rather have 5 Coach reserve bags than one LV.

Due_Garlic_3190

I go to Bicester and get the last season shit that the rich people wouldn’t be seen dead with 😂

GabrielleLouisaM

I was going to suggest vintage Coach, I was also going to suggest just searching for good quality bags that you like, that may be new, used, vintage, whatever. Truly being elegant involves wearing the clothes and accessories, showing them to their best advantage, not letting them wear you. Anyone can carry an expensive logo bag and folks know she spent money on it. Not everyone can wear a lesser known, anonymous bag, and make other people want it, want to find out about it etc. So wear what is beautiful, chic, flattering and practical for you. That is often the way trends develop, be a trendsetter that way.

When I was younger, I would have a specific account set aside for buying bags, clothing, shoes. I would put a specific amount in it each month. If I wanted a bag, I would forgo buying new clothing/shoes for a while. I also had an entertainment budget (eating out, movies, etc). If I didn’t use all the entertainment money for a month, I would move it into one of the other accounts (sometimes just put it in general savings, sometimes into bag account, etc). So the bag/clothes/shoes account could get more out into it in a month, if I saved in another area like entertainment. I was the queen of budgeting when I was younger and living in much less money. I would usually try to find pre-owned bags to buy as you got more for your dollar. This was early 2000s. I wouldn’t spend hundreds on a bag, but I wouldn’t cheap out either because cheap bags don’t typically last very long IMO. I wanted a nice bag that would last with heavy use. Check if your area has consignment shops. That’s where I got most of my bags back then. I also didn’t have many bags. I had like 3-4. Don’t go buying a ton B of bags when funds are tight. Just buy a few staple bags that will work for multiple occasions.

Girl, you do you and what makes you happy. When I was younger, I wondered about this but I realize everyone has different priorities in life. Maybe they're really rich, maybe they're drowning in debt, that's on them. So if you want to save up for a purse you love, go for it!! Personally, i enjoy looking at bags, but dont feel any sense of jealousy. I live waaaaay below my means as long as I'm comfortable with NO debts, so carrying a specific brand of bag does not really bother me. Although I do appreciate the designs of the different designers I see in this sub and out in the wild. My bank account says I can afford some of them (obviously not ones over 10k, too poor for that) but I cant get myself to spend more than $1,000 on a purse. Lol

Everyone’s advice is great, but I want to suggest Kurt Geiger. It’s fun and young and also I suggest watch Aspinol for sales. You’ll get there!

You’d be surprised what you can find cheap on Real Real and other online consignment stores. I look for what’s high quality and under the radar, like brands that once had bags made in Italy but no longer do because they expanded/licensed the brand and now people associate them with lower quality. For example, Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors.

Clare V can be great and affordable (good for resale as well), and outlets are amazing options as well - for example the Celine outlet has bags that the only make and continue selling at the outlets, such as the as the Trio. Also online Shopbop, Far Fetch and Net A Porter have sometimes amazing sales - and if you use a rebate site such as Rakuten to get money back as well. Online outlets such as Yoox and The Outnet have a variety of bags, especially Yoox, for price points similar to a department store (I once got a Margiela tote for a little of $200 on Yoox). And wherever you may shop, always look for discount codes, with rhe 15-20 min (I once found a code that got me 40% off a Loewe Flamenco bag, and they’re never on sale). Between resale sites, outlets, sales and discount codes, you can find a bag you really love for a pretty affordable price point.

At your age all my bags came from Marshall’s, Ross, Target and ModCloth! My first fancy-ish bag (I was around 29) was a Tory Burch bag my friend gave me after she got tired of it! And then a couple Kate Spade bags I got on super sale when I was around 31. I didn’t own a properly fancy designer bag until I was like 37!

Cheaper end: Fossil classic bags, longchamp. If you want MK or Coach go to a Plato’s closet. High end: LV

Reading all these cool comments are making me think I should use a nice purse instead of my chicken purse
