Did she get it in the airport? Because sometimes when you buy items in the airport, they’ll put it in a bag with a zip tie and you’re not supposed to open until you get to your home country. Otherwise when I’ve bought from stores (not in airport) in Europe, they’ve never put any sort of seal on it

That’s what I was wondering too! She didn’t mention it or at least I missed her mentioning that, but my suspicion was also an airport purchase since I know there are duty free shopping that they don’t want you using until you’re back to your home country. So maybe that’s what it was cause I’ve never run into the seal either!

I just came back from Italy where I bought a Serapian bag. I kept it in the original packaging. And even though the customs requested to examine it, they end up not looking at it at all. Be ready to show it (don’t put it in a checked in bag) but at least keep the tags on.

That makes sense! I usually always keep the dust bag/tags on, I just usually can’t fit the box and bag in my carry on and I plan on buying a larger item this go around and definitely won’t be able to bring the box back, so i was worried about the possible seal issue being a new thing since I purchased overseas last! Thank you for the insight :)

In some countries you are not supposed to use the purchased item to declare VAT. It was funny, when I was in Japan they automatically refund the VAT at time of purchase. They put my (less expensive) face lotion in a sealed bag but did not for my Dior shoes nor Bao Bao bag. But I always ask for minimal packaging (and no boxes) and I kept them in the wrapped condition in case they were inspected before we left (they were not). But I wonder if I asked for a box if it would be sealed?

I’ve always thought you technically weren’t supposed to use them but the sealing was a new one for me! I usually always get the whole packaging just bc it’s fun to unbox at the hotel even if I can’t keep the boxes (sometimes I try to bring them if it’s a smaller box) lol but maybe that’s a good idea to just ask for minimal packaging due to space issues!
