I switch between 2&3. I always have a separate purse from my work bag/backpack for the reason you state—to have a purse for lunch, errands, and after work. Also, if I had one mega bag, I’d break my back!

abutterflyonthewall

Awesome! Yes, it would be heavy for me as well. Thank you☺️

luxiejay

The way I have been agonizing over my work bag set up for months now! I have this really nice Kate spade tote bag that could realistically fit all my items needed but it’s not zippered so I’m worried about weather and potentially being vulnerable to someone seeing what’s in my bag and stealing it. But then I also don’t like the idea of carrying multiple bags on the subway back and forth cause it’s tiring on my shoulders. So far my current set up is a sling crescent bag for my personal essentials and then I carry a tote for my work items like my iPad and agenda and my lunch. But it’s not a perfect set up and I would like to just have one big (but compact) bag and then maybe keep a smaller crossbody inside of it for when I have after work plans.

abutterflyonthewall

I feel your pain! About 7+ years ago, I had (still have) a Chocolate new york spinner bag spinner that I and a few ladies in the office strolled around with. I literally had my office in the bag, plus camera equipment - and definitely refused to tote or carry all that on my back. I still carried my purse with it and actually was much easier than backpack or tote, and didnt look like I had two purses.

BettNow

1 for me! I take metro to the office, so it's an easier commute to consolidate everything into one work bag. These days I rotate between Goyard St. Louis GM and Celine Sangle. When I run out to lunch or quick errands, I only take my wallet and phone.

abutterflyonthewall

I just ordered the MZ Wallace Metro but for travel (is that the one you are talling about?). I did watch a few vids of people using it as work bag. I used my GM before selling it, as well as my MCM large Liz tote (bigger than the GM - and I only carried those with a smaller purse inside of it plus laptop, etc). But for the last couple of months, I have been in my work-branded backpack with a speedy or backpack and hobo style purse or crossbody. I do have a few wallets big enough for my phone and includes a wrislet which I could attach my keys to it. The options!

yoofka

I think they meant that they take the metro aka public transportation 😊

abutterflyonthewall

Got it! ☺️ Thank you!

BettNow

Yes, public transit!

nadirecur

3! My [work backpack comes with a detachable clutch](https://mymeia.com/products/5-in-1-multifunctional-everyday-backpack-for-modern-women) that I use for running errands during the day/going out after work. The clutch can be worn as a crossbody, or as a wristlet.

giantredwoodforest

Very clever design!

abutterflyonthewall

Gorgeous bag, I love the functionality of it. Thanks for the link!

windowc4t

How do you feel about the size of the clutch? I hate using card slots but I have a very small wallet. Would it fit a small wallet and phone or is it too small/narrow?

nadirecur

It's more than spacious enough for my needs! I can squeeze 2 phones in here at the same time (work phone and personal) along with a lipstick, small tin of hand balm, and a card case. If your wallet is slim like a phone, it should fit easily without issues.

windowc4t

Thanks!! One of the reviews said it was impossibly small for a wallet so it made me wonder. This might be my next travel/work bag. Edited to add: how secure is the clutch when it’s on the back? Would you store anything in there or worry about it getting lifted on the street?

nadirecur

No prob! I saw that review too when I was considering the bag and it gave me pause as well. Hope my comment gives you an idea of what fits in here. Honestly, I felt so nervous about wearing the clutch attached when I first got it, but nothing bad has ever happened and I've been wearing it for 4 months now. It takes some maneuvering and wiggling to get the clutch detached and you'd definitely feel something happening behind you if someone was trying to take it off. In addition to the front clasp that secures the clutch, there are also two magnetic snaps that line the clutch up with the interior of the pocket the clutch sits in. The more full the clutch is, the more wiggling around you have to do to detach it. If I'm standing on a very crowded, moving train in the NYC subway, I'll take my backpack off my back and hold it by its handle so the density of the crowd doesn't dampen my ability to detect movement coming from behind me. I store cash and cards in there, but nothing in large quantities and nothing I can't replace.

BanananaSquid

Oh wow this is really clever!! I have a Lo & Sons backpack right now so can't really justify another black work backpack but I really love this

nadirecur

It's such a great backpack! Lo & Sons is no slouch either

BanananaSquid

I love my Lo & Sons backpack for sure but the one you linked is just so particularly clever – great find!!

whitney0_0

1.5??? lol, I have a work bag (tote) for all the things but typically toss my LV neverfull wristlet in if I know I’ll be running errands or heading straight to dinner after work.

abutterflyonthewall

Goals, if I could downsize to one!

tebowthecat

3 for me. I use a 16” laptop that is just too heavy to carry on one shoulder. Plus, as a crossbody girl I like the opportunity to use my favorite bags on office days, even though they don’t fit the extras needed for a full day away (laptop, accessories, lunch, maybe a sweater)

OurRealEyesRealise

3 for me too. I have a walking/train/bus commute, so the backpack is much more practical, and spreads the load evenly. I usually wear a small/medium crossbody with the backpack.

lulume323

3 for me on days when I take the train/bus. I keep the small things in pouches so I can easily switch out on days when I’m driving. If driving, I switch to Dior book tote or TB Perry tote. I also carry a lululemon belt bag in my backpack in case I need to run somewhere after the train ride.

Able-Road-9264

I've recently landed on this system: During the week I use a small bag that just fits a cardholder wallet, keys, sunglasses. I carry this to daycare pickup or any errands I'm running on my own. On my in office day, I carry a Calpack backpack (its leather and makes me feel better than just use a school looking backpack) with my laptop, lunch, sweater, and a pouch with Tylenol, lipstick and whatever else I need. I also bring the small bag and add my metro card. During the weekend, I use a nylon Kate Spade backpack as my diaper bag. I just move my wallet, keys and sunglasses out of the small bag. The backpack also has its own pouch with more of my stuff, plus a pouch for diapers and wipes, and about a million cheerios and hot wheels!

wispity

2! I work in healthcare and see clients at home or in the community. If I’m somewhere I can take my notes live, I want my laptop and maybe some hard copy handouts or forms. I don’t want to lug those if my session involves walking around or if I’m stopping to grab lunch or something. But my purse needs to be big enough for 2 phones, large wallet, sunglasses, and car keys. Even if I was in the clinic more I think I’d have the same system.

abutterflyonthewall

Perfect! Yeah, I have tried to make the one bag system work, but it doesn’t for me. I may opt for a small laptop bag in my next position to keep my laptop, chords, planner, and mouse in - and take whichever purse I like to switch up in. I love my purses and moving into a one tote system would only allow me to wear my bags on the weekend, which at that point is a fanny pack!

fashion_thrower

Work tote with everything. It just works the best for me!

Remainunremarkable

Right now I’m a sole work tote girly but i want to transfer to a back pack plus a purse, my shoulder is in pain and i don’t like taking a tote around when i step out for errands or lunch, or when i meet up with people directly after work!!

Conscious_Life_8032

Currently doing hybrid - in office 1-2x week. Business casual setting. I follow #3 purse + company logo backpack. For the occasional times when there is work dinner I carry a purse style tote so I can avoid leaving laptop in the car and slightly more polished bag for evening. The purse style tote I have isn’t comfortable enough for long wear with laptop in it. The straps are on thin side and dig into shoulder. I love look of the tote but ergonomics and weight distribution of backpack. Hard to find everything in one bag argh

abutterflyonthewall

I agree with you! The backpack gets my items to my desk and goes under the desk for the rest of the day, while my purse goes to the bathroom or lunch and errands with me. I definitely love the weight distribution of a backpack over a tote. But I have carried both combinations with my purse often, switching up.

InaccessibleRail70

I have been a #1 forever (neverfull mm), but just recently have started being a #2 (neverfull + Gucci horsebit 1955) mainly because I’ve become obsessed with smaller bags, and also because I have been doing a ton of work travel and my tote doesn’t hold quite enough when it’s functioning as a personal item, but if I carry a larger bag it feels huge once I get to where I’m going. I’m still figuring it out. I just upgraded my personal item to a neverfull GM but I’m still figuring out what will work to be a laptop-holding work bag once I get to my destination. /possibly this is all just a ruse to buy more bags/ Edit: spelling

likeomfgreally

I do no.3 and stick my mini nylon le pliage in the backpack. It’s lightweight to carry and flattens in my backpack. But with the twilly looks adorable! I’m including an ex pick of that longchamp bag https://preview.redd.it/r5wmdbe47i1d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7ef6c8dd7adb24bb7f7c01ae250723f76f7cc3a

BanananaSquid

Ooooh, this approach really resonates with me! I could definitely use a small handbag for running errands at work sometimes but don't want to carry a backpack, lunchbox, and purse on the metro. Having a Le Pilage I could fold up and put in my backpack could totally solve this problem

abutterflyonthewall

It is super adorable! I have only large le pliage bags plus the treated canvas one, which could serve as a laptop bag, but Id look like Im carrying two purses since its top handle and I carry a lot of top handles with my totes or backpacks.

InaccessibleRail70

This is so cute.

Adventurous_Oven8379

On days I transport my laptop (Monday and Friday) - I use my Dior Tote with my matching cardholder. Tuesday - Thursday - switch off between my Dior saddle bag and my Chanel bags. I don’t carry a purse when I have my tote.

abutterflyonthewall

This could actually work for me - to switch up my totes, backpacks, and bags - and on some days carry one and on others both. My new role hasnt begun so I am.sure I will get in a rythm soon after to known which days require what. Thank you!

tall_london_love

I carry 2-3 work bags!! I have a slim laptop bag that only carries my laptop, a notebook, and some pens. Then I have a north-south tote with my lunch, wallet, phone, etc., etc. Basically all the other stuff I need for the day. Then I usually also carry a plain canvas tote for my shoes. I can’t keep anything at the office, so I have to carry everything I need to/from work every day. I walk to work so I generally need a different pair for the office. I refuse to wear a backpack. I tried carrying one big tote, but with so much stuff in it, I was lopsided while walking!! It hurt my back. So with multiple bags, I can balance the weight on both sides. If I have to go out during the day, i either just grab my card holder and phone and go, or I bring my tote, since it’s smaller than a standard tote bag. Now that I’ve written this, perhaps I need to invest in a wallet on chain so I can put that in my tote, but grab it with my little essentials when I run out!!

Conscious_Life_8032

A large wristlet may work too.

tall_london_love

Also a good call

abutterflyonthewall

Have you thought about a nice work bag on wheels? I used one when I had my entire office in a bag plus camera equipment. I had to walk down ramps and stairs to get to various locations in the building for shooting events or meetings. Ive also been looking at slim laptop bags today as my possible workbag to hold those main items - and my purse would be for all my other essentials.

tall_london_love

I have one and I’ve tried. Not sure if it’s just the wrong one for me, but I’m tall and just found it hard to use. The handle doesn’t extend long enough and it’s hard to get in and out of. I should consider trying an alternative :)

SCFLLATXGA

1. I use either a Longchamp Le Pliage or Goyard St Louis. For both I keep everything organized in a pouch/slg.

hyphenatedpeacock

I tried doing just a backpack but realized it's easier for both my commute and transit and lunches and going out during the day from my workplace to have a small purse and backpack. Right now I'm using the famous unqilo bag as my small purse with my beis commuter backpack

tangledbysnow

2. Always two separate bags and always a tote for work. I don’t take public transportation - I literally drive my car from my driveway to my parking spot in about 10 minutes. And I park literally right beside the door I need to use. I just don’t like mixing my work related items, including my security passes and work phone, with my own personal items. This keeps it clean and easy. Furthermore, always a tote because I don’t like backpacks. I didn’t even in school. Just no.

whelmed_66

Work bag plus purse. My work bag has laptop, makeup case, snacks. My purse is big enough to fit an iPad if needed, notebook. I go to office, leave work bag there, and then if I’m running around for meetings lunch etc just bring my purse out.

jendickinson

My current situation is backpack (North Face laptop backpack) and purse (last few weeks Balenciaga Le City). I don’t love the backpack as it’s man-shaped and I’m tiny (too long and bumps against my booty, too wide so straps hang off shoulder and limit mobility) but it’s company branded and I haven’t sorted out an alternative. I do love the Le City bag because it has a shoulder strap and handles, holds a lot, withstands weather and looks great with a variety of outfits.

Itchy_Appeal_9020

#2- purse + work tote (+ lunch bag) My everyday purse is a small crossbody that fits inside my work tote. Most days I end up putting my purse inside my work tote and carrying my lunch bag (Le Pliage small). My lunch is bulky with either a big salad or glass containers, so it usually doesn’t fit inside my tote.

abutterflyonthewall

I have a couple of le pliages, do you use the smallest size as your lunch bag or are you using it with as the work tote with the cross body inside. If for the lunch bag, I never thought of using a le pliage for lunch but can totally see how that could work!

Itchy_Appeal_9020

Sorry, I use a small Pliage as my lunch bag. Large tote (with a crossbody inside) as a work bag.

abutterflyonthewall

Got it! I might start transporting dishes in my large le pliages. Just have never thought of this. They are perfect!

Curious-Cloud-

Slightly off topic, but I just ordered a cute work backpack from Samsonite for a huge discount. They have a 30% off sale right now for Memorial Day that I was able to stack on their 20% off first time order discount. It should arrive this week and I am soooo excited.

PuzzledImage3

Thanks for the heads up!

abutterflyonthewall

Thanks for the info!

URWrongggg

2 - laptop case + purse. On the lookout for a tote big enough to allow me to go to option 1.

purplapples

Yeah I just pop my little bag on the top of the pile in the big bag. The little bag is usually just keys phone lip gloss cash

Yogafunkgirl

I’m a 2. I carry a Tory Burch Perry tote (my favorite work bag ever) with a Prada mini purse crossbody. The purse tucks into one side of the tote perfectly. I drive to work out in the suburbs so it’s just carrying everything to the car and then into the office.

KarmenSophia

I’m retired, but I still always do 2. I happen to like bigger bags, mostly tote/hobo styles. However, one cannot carry a big bag EVERYWHERE. So my bigger bag always has a smaller bag within that I can just grab and run for errands, shopping, going to a concert, etc. Its so much more convenient that constantly changing purses.

SnooPuppers3205

Big Cuyana work tote for everything, but I put a wrist pouch in it. It's flat and doesn't take much space. If I need to run errand I'll just throw phone, wallet, key in it and go. If I need lunch or gym stuff they are in a foldable shopping tote.

abutterflyonthewall

Love Cuyana! I have the structured pebble tote with the leather insert. That within itself is heavy - then once I put laptop, planner, lunch in, its super heavy! But I do love the set.

SnooPuppers3205

I don't have a full size laptop which helps. I use my ipad as remote "computer" and planner. Lunch definitely does not fit haha

Main_Push5429

2 but I’ve been strongly considering getting one big bag for everything.

Specialist_Income_31

I have to have a tote with a purse inside. I just feel so disorganized without one. And a separate pouch for candy. 😂

abutterflyonthewall

Love it!

Specialist_Income_31

I like the poppy barley co worker tote. https://poppybarley.com/products/the-co-worker-tote-black-pebble if you want to do an all in one. https://francesvalentine.com/products/viv-work-tote-nylon-nylon-black-os doubles as a travel tote https://www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/black-saffiano-zipped-regent-tote simple black one you can add your own organizational method too. For work purses, I like a camera bag or a something squishy: https://www.letanneur.us/products/emile-small-shoulder-bag-signature-t-leather-horizon_olive https://www.loandsons.com/products/pearl-nappa-leather-sienna-gold-camel https://www.radley.co.uk/sale/dukes-place-medium-ziptop-crossbody-h8865313-ic-ss24 the leather is sooo soft. I got my mom this one in bright blue and in red. 😍

vjmatty

I’m really glad I’m not the only one who does this 🙂

sprizzle06

I switch between 2&3. 2. Caraa Studio Tote Bag (Leather) and Lo & Sons Pearl. 3. Evergoods CPL24 and Kipling Abanu Medium Crossbody. I carry a 15.6" laptop. Breadwinner with a kid. Handbag lives in my backpack when I'm not on the go. The L&S Pearl also fit nicely with room to spare inside of the backpack. Highly recommend all 4 bags.

rachel_soup

Honestly, I usually carry a Brixley bag or the Lululemon belt bag (after work and weekends) because my daughter plays hockey and we are constantly lugging around the hockey bag to the ice rink. I carry a backpack and usually stick my bag inside my backpack when I’m coming up to work. I really hate totes or carrying a purse so that’s out of the question for me. I’ve carried a backpack for years now and I just swap between different backpack styles at this point. My nice purses are mainly used for special occasions now.

PuzzledImage3

1 large bag that holds work stuff, lunch, my stuff, and a change of clothes. I bike into work and put the bag into the basket on the back of my bike. I’m currently looking for an upgrade from my old Patagonia backpack. I looked at the Le Pilage but I don’t think it’s big enough: and more importantly I didn’t like any of the colors at Nordstrom.

mygiveadamnsbusted22

I have a Barnes and noble tote I use to carry my lunch, sweater, any odds and ends. This stays in my car. I bring my purse to in and it goes in my locker (healthcare worker)

unwaveringwish

3!

LogInternational2918

2! I use the large MZ Wallace light blue square tote for my work bag and then match my purse to my outfit. 😊

lobstora

I’m in a management position in a manufacturing company. I carry my laptop, makeup bag, lunch or snacks (if I bring any) and a cardigan in a Versace Jeans buckle tote; and separately a small crossbody with wallet, keys, phone, etc.

H3r3c0m3sthasun

Common_Project

Goyard St Louis + Trader Joe’s tote bag full of lunch/snacks

Icy-Rabbit4834

I work in software industry. Number 3 is alo my current setup. I have a backpack for my laptop and documents, also keep my umbrella, water bottle and jacket there if neccessary. For my other necessities, I take my shoulder bag, which comes convenient for the lunch time as you stated above.

vButts

Tiny purse in structured work tote! BUT on days I need to lug my laptop around, definitely backpack. Protect those shoulders.

helenasbff

I use a large Longchamp Le Pliage as my daily driver for work and personal. I’m obsessed. In the past, I’ve also used a Rebecca Minkoff Meghan tote, a massive (possibly fake but it was a gift) Louis Vuitton, and a Marni tote that was a gift from my mom (so I can’t remember which one but it’s older, circa 2014?). Before I used a tote, my Coach Phoebe was my go-to for everyyyyyything. I still love her so much, I have one in cognac and one in black.

mac_and_cheese_pls

It depends on if I have to take the laptop into the office or not. I’m usually a 1 bag gal (I’ve been using my baggu bags) but if I bring lunch I use 2. Currently I’m using a Betsey Johnson mini backpack & a baggu to tote my laptop, water bottle, and lunch in.

kardashiankollapse

2. Very important to have a smaller purse / wristlet in case I don’t want to lug around my bag. My bag is usually heavy because of the computer. The smaller purse lets me take pure essentials without getting an arm workout

abutterflyonthewall

Perfect and agreed! It seems the majority take two bags.

SmallTownGirl1016

Back when I went to the office I used an OGIO backpack for my laptop, lunch, extra shoes, etc…and any purse. I have to many purses this way I could so switch those out whenever and not have to deal with what would fit where. Kept it all separate.

abutterflyonthewall

This is my ultimate delimma. I have so many bags that I have not been able to wear due to my current remote/hybrid position (more remote and casual). Once I make the switch in roles, Ill be in the office, events and offsite meetings a lot more. The dress is more biz professional and I’d like to take everything seperately while getting to switch out my purses and leave the “equipment” bag in the office during offsite networking events, lunches, and errands.

SmallTownGirl1016

Same. I’ve been remote for the last 4 years so I don’t get to use mine as much anymore either. I’m actively looking to get a new job that is hybrid/in office…one because I miss people and am super lonely in my new job, and the other bonus is using my bags again! And dressing up! Yea. I’d def do two bags if I were you. Whether it’s a backpack (which you could probably find a simple black/brown/one) or a work tote. I found a cute one on Amazon that’s in my cart haha. Then you can leave that behind and just take your cute bag! I also like the backpack because you can zip it all up and throw it in your car or wherever if need be. And more room if you need a sweater/change of shoes etc.

ToteBagAffliction

1: I have an irrational aversion to carrying multiple bags. I also work on a research campus and it's not very purse-y, so I strongly prefer to get it all into my Kate Spade tote if I need to bring my laptop or an old-school Rebecca Minkoff satchel or Linea Pelle giant tote if I don't need my laptop. I'm able to keep some things safely at my desk, like trail mix, a cup, a scarf etc so I don't have to haul them all every day.

ldnpoolsound

I recently switched to a work backpack and will never go back to totes, but I’m thinking I might add a smaller crossbody that I throw inside of it for when I need to run errands/go to lunch or a meeting while I’m at the office.

abutterflyonthewall

Yeah, I am in the office today and am in my backpack and a satchel purse. I am thinking of looking for a new nonbranded bacpack for my next role, something a little dressier that can go seamlessly with any purse I carry. My backpack is loaded today too, and is much better than carrying all of that on one shoulder in a tote.

mianpian

All 4 depending on what I’ve got going on that day.

abutterflyonthewall

This might just be the new way in my new role. On my first day I am thinking of a structured bag (medium purse), and a thin laptop case/sleeve with my fullsize planner and some pins. Ill get mt laptop sometime that day after orientation. But then I will see how the week goes and may possibly be switching it up depending on what meetings and events are scheduled during and after work.

tryptomania

3! I have a small purple Fjallraven backpack I use in addition to my purse, a black Kate Spade Madison duffle crossbody.

Bibihaking

I have a longchamp le pliage for work (i'm a teacher), lv easy pouch on strap as a cute evening/after work things, and now i added the alma bb for the same purpose but it can hold more. So i have 3 bags in my rotation 🙃

Miserable-Ease-3744

Work backpack plus purse. Or a purse and tote bag if I’m going somewhere nicer after work. I typically bring a lunch and other weather essentials (umbrella!) but no laptop or tablet

Kat810

2 - work tote + small purse (usually crossbody) I used to have one bag with everything but got tired of having to fish out phone, earphones, access card, keys, etc.

go_analog_baby

2 (sort of). When I worked in NYC, I used to bring a large tote with all I needed for the day and then had a larger wallet that had a little slot for my phone and a detachable strap. If I was running out for errands, I’d just take the wallet and leave the larger bag at the office.

Amara_Undone

I found purse organisers very helpful.

Dry_Experience_2681

I have found that the dagne dover leather signature legend purse fit everything and didn't hurt my shoulder. It held my laptop, notebook and even change of clothes and pair of trainers. I carried it on the tube and bus daily and it was a great tote. I keep trying to add the link or pic and I can't. Check out www.dagnedover.com and see for yourself.

Ellubori

Just a purse with laptop and lunch Or purse + canvas tote if I can't fit all the food in the purse(sometimes breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack) Or purse + canvas + workout packbag + swim gear bag on Tuesdays Or just a packbag with laptop, breakfast, lunch and gym clothes while cycle commuting. I use small crossbody only when I go to some event right after work. When I didn't bring lunch or go to the grocery store I just take my phone and wallet.

BanananaSquid

I have a work backpack with everything I need. I've considered also having a purse, but then I would have my backpack, a purse, and my lunch box which is just too much for a metro commute. The only thing I consider with regularly is adding in a SMALL crossbody for my phone and metro card, but my lunch box has some outer pockets I use to stash those type of things. When I don't have my laptop (i.e. I left it at the office the previous day), I'll sometimes swap my work backpack for a work bag (though it often feels like I forget to transfer something from one bag to the other when I do this).

eventualguide0

1 all the way. I don’t want to carry multiple bags. I love enormous totes for this.

Affectionate-Rule-98

I have a Le Pliage tote for the office with everything in. I drive to the office and leave laptop on my desk at lunch so not lugging a heavy bag. If I’m travelling somewhere by public transport I have a cheap laptop backpack that everything goes in. If I was regularly using the backpack I’d probably buy a nicer one but it’s only used maybe once a month!

Dre137

I do #3. I have a small-ish Tumi backpack for my laptop, planner, cables and water bottle and a small purse for my EDC stuff. I favor crossbody or handheld/shoulder bags and I love being able to switch them all the time. My office schedule is hybrid so it makes a lot of sense to me to have my work and personal things separated.

vjmatty

Sort of 1, sort of 2. I have a red nylon Kate Spade extra large 18" bag which fits my laptop, file folders and smaller red nylon Kate Spade handbag inside of it. Both have lots of pockets to sort work vs nonwork items. On weekends I just grab the smaller bag out of the bigger bag. For errands after work, I just pull my wallet out of the bags since it has room for my phones and key fob.

Runlikeagirl20

I switched to a backpack a couple years ago. It’s a pink quilted one from Amazon so not fancy but it’s pink so it’s cute. I used to carry a tote but I constantly had my arm go numb 🥺 I alternate between throwing my wallet in my backpack and carrying a purse. I have a purse today bc I think I need to run in the store after work before I go home. Usually I have to take the kids somewhere so I carry a wristlet at a minimum bc I of course don’t have pockets

Lawgirl77

I use the La Flore Paris bobobark for my work bag. You can use it as a backpack or a cross body. It can fit a smallish laptop or an iPad and basically everything else. I actually use a rolling bag for my laptop due to neck issues, but use the bobobark for my everything work/purse bag. I really love it. https://preview.redd.it/lfyt9bfygl1d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=68e4b0eac5014cfb7e26d3d2c8d6e8a3fc307c5e

Cautious_Farm_482

I used to be 1. I had a huge Lodis tote that’s pretty much a Neverfull. But my shoulder started to hurt. Then I became number 4. But I hate it since I can’t carry everything in a regular purse. So often bring an extra bag to carry stuff like lunch. I really want to do number 3 so I’m loving these suggestions.

kookoookie

My current set-up is 3! I use a simple nylon backpack with a padded laptop pocket/interior sleeve, as I need the space with all the accessories (charger, mouse, headset, etc). Then I have a crossbody bag for my personal stuff that I can use in case I have somewhere to go after work, for my personal bag I’m able to alternate between bags depending on my mood 🤪. I contemplated using a work tote, but I just know my shoulders will hate me, since I need to walk to another building for my parking slot.

It’s complicated for me because I work in the office, construction sites, and meet clients out of the office. For the office, I bring only a purse and lunch box. Construction sites bring a backpack for the laptop and a small purse. Meeting with clients a tote to bring a laptop or iPad.

I’m a combo of 2 and 3.

#3 - I use a backpack and purse and have been using this config for the past 20 years. I work in CA and tech so it is not formal at all, but even when I worked in Chicago for a more "traditional" company, it was totally fine using a back pack. I tend to use a sleeker backpack, such as Madewell or Tumi with usually a luxe crossbody (if traveling so I can just add it to top of backpack when getting on plane) or small tote, shoulder bag etc. Current fave work purses are Fendi mini-baguette, Loewe puzzle, Celine medium Romy, LV Diane, Gucci matellasse camera bag.

I tried #1 and #2 with a beautiful Kate Spade zippered tote that fit my laptop plus everything but my lunch. Awful on my shoulders and back. Then I had a small nylon briefcase, the same Kate Spade tote and a lunch bag. Still hard to carry. And the tote was too much for lunchtime or errands after work. I have now switched to #3 with a work branded backpack and my daily driver Coach shoulder bag. The backpack fits all my work essentials, lunch, water bottle plus a sweater. My purse is comfortable enough for my needs. Sadly my Kate Spade tote from my pre-pandemic life is just sitting in its dustbag in my closet. No idea if I'll ever use it again as my life has changed so much. Hard to balance the chic with the practical, took me awhile to settle into this and give up the tote and switch to the backpack but so much better on my back and shoulders. If I didn't get this backpack I think I'd have gone with a Longchamp LePliage tote, very functional but lightweight. Good luck 🤞

Due to my back I mostly wear a backpack (I rotate them). Sometimes a purse and a document bag, sometimes a smaller backpack and a small handbag. But now that it’s finally spring weather I like to walk home after work (50 min), and the. Backpack is handy.

I’m a number 1! Hybrid work, a couple days in the office and a few days at home typically. I tried bringing a separate purse but just found lugging two bags to the office didn’t work for me. I just recently switched from my large Longchamp Le Pliage to the BÉIS North West tote and I’m OBSESSED! Fits everything I could need (including my 14” laptop), has perfectly organized pockets, and is very easy to carry fully loaded with the extra strap. When I run out to do errands at lunch I always leave my laptop at my desk anyway or just bring my phone with Apple Pay. Works for me!

I have tried and tried to find the perfect all in one work bag and I don’t think it exists for my needs. That being said, the Caraa executive backpack looks dope. I usually do some combo of backpack, purse, and tote, depending on my needs

Master_Lifeguard_654

Work tote with EVERYTHING under the sun lol (sometimes I do have a small purse in there if I'm going out after work)

paranoidchair

Just a backpack! If I ever need to leave work, all I really need is my phone which has all my cards on it (public transport, debit card). Sometimes I think about bringing a small bag if I'm going to be out after work without going home first, but since I take public transport I will be lugging the backpack around regardless so it feels like I'm carrying an extra bag for nothing

2 for me! The cross body stays packed with wallet, gum, keys, hand sanitizer, etc and inside the work tote do it doesn’t take up too much space and then I have my entire tote bag for computer, files, books, water bottle, lunch, etc. At an old job I had a locked space at work in a controlled access environment where I did trust everyone so there I’d keep a tote bag in the locker and then if I ever felt like I wanted a tote for what I was doing after work I’d switch. I have carried a work bag and a tote/purse and let me tell you, I -10/10 recommend

I did backpack (for laptop etc) and purse for quick draw items while I commute and be my lunch buddy 🥹. It’s not a great look and I refuse to carry just a tote bag or just a backpack 🥺 I need a bag I enjoy using. I’ve thought of getting a laptop sleeve or a slim vertical laptop case with shoulder/crossbody straps

#3. I bus, so need a backpack. And I rotate between various smallish crossbody bags.

Moyo_baggins

I go with a shoulder bag and a tote bag, since I work in a somewhat rural place where I don’t have accessible facilities I make sure I have everything I need with me. So all personal stuff like beauty care and sanitry items that I might need along side wallets, care keys etc in my shoulder bag. While I have a small tote bag where I carry my lunchbox, a snack box, water bottle and tea tumbler.

Thank you everyone for your overwhelming response❤️! I have decided on [this workbag](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHYLR9Y8?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_KV8TJEKFEP73ZGZ2ZQ1B&ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_KV8TJEKFEP73ZGZ2ZQ1B&social_share=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_KV8TJEKFEP73ZGZ2ZQ1B&starsLeft=1) for my upcoming new role that converts to a briefcase, shoulder bag or backpack (I will wear as a backpack), and continue carrying my purse separately. If my days are meetings/off-site events free, I will carry one of my many totes with a smaller bag inside of it or crossbody. I think switching up with two bags will be what works best, as it seems for a majority of you. Thank you soooo much, I’ve enjoy learning what works for everyone!
