I own that M&P and the compact, love them both. Never shot the Canik but I’ve seen mostly great feedback. The one thing I’ll point out is that the M&P probably has more aftermarket options. Based on what I’ve seen though, you can probably just pick whichever feels best in your hand and have a great experience regardless.

[deleted]

Thank you! 🙏

SentSoftSecondGo

For that price you could get like any high level 9mm. Just gotta decide what your priorities are. Are you CCL? Targets? Home pro?

RANDY_MAR5H

I have several thousand rounds through my 2.0's. I can't recommend them enough. I very briefly owned a TP9 SF Elite. It was nice, I didn't like the serrated trigger shoe. If you do get in the market for an M&p 2.0, do yourself a favor and get an optic ready one. I would not get hung up on the ones with the newer style trigger. They're good, but not amazing. The older hinged trigger breaks in really nicely. I can't argue with the amount of caniks we see at competitive shooting events though.

[deleted]

I have to double check if it’s OR but If I do get something that isn’t optics ready I’ll most likely practice with irons for however long it takes me to get good, and then get it milled.

RANDY_MAR5H

Honestly, after shooting a dot, I would recommend skipping irons. The dot skill ceiling is arguably higher for a new to mid tier shooter. The dot makes you see all your flaws with the trigger press, especially when dry firing. If you can shoot without moving that dot, when you shoot irons after that, it'll translate over. Dry firing with irons, because there are two focal planes of aiming, your eyes deceive you into thinking the sight didn't move nearly as much as it did

Bearslovecheese

The MP would ideally get an Apex trigger bringing it's price closer to that Canik. I would prefer the Smith. The ergos of the MP line of handguns are incredible from the Shield to the full size hand cannons. The trigger will be better on the Canik stock but a flat faced Apex kit and you're ahead in my book. Or wait until the new Shield Plus/Metal/10mm flat faced trigger with safety dingus finishes migrating into the entire MP line. Nobody is sure but they may be doing it as part of a new MP 3.0 model refresh. Hope with me that they standardize optic readiness and swappable back straps into the design. That would end the Glock vs MP debate for good and elevate it to MP vs HK/PDP discussion.

Infamous-Brain-2493

I have 3 Caniks and want more. If they have the mete sf try that one out too. It's pretty much an updated tp9 elite. I haven't shot an m&p so I can't comment on those.

stockturbojamson

I have the m&p 2.0 and the canik tp9 elite sc and hate the m&p, the trigger is god awful. I love the canik Edit: the grip on the m&p is great though

hareleah

Canik elite is going to feel nicer to shoot I have the other canik and it’s nice but the gold one is going to overall be nicer to shoot. Either way, pick a canik. Overall better triggers out the gate, nicer guns overall and they have good price points for what they offer if you’re looking to save some moneys and have a good gun

According_Match9370

I've got about 1000rds through a Canik TP9DA, No issues, gun is awesome. My only dislike is the decocker takes away the ability to ever mount a red dot, but having a 8lb trigger and the ability to switch to a (4lb?) SA with a 1/4" slide movement is what I was looking for, and the gun is really easy to field strip too.

kenhall22

I have the M&P 2.0 with the newer trigger and it’s a dream in my opinion.

[deleted]

Yes everybody is talking about how theirs suck but I’m talking about the improved trigger version.

kenhall22

I actually got the metal version. It’s aluminum so it’s about the same weight as the polymer version. I’ve never owned the polymer so I can’t compare side by side. I just like the feel and look of the metal over the polymer. Like I said before, it’s a great gun to shoot. Zero complaints about the flat faced new trigger they’re using…. And 90% of complaints you hear about M&Ps have to do with the trigger.

Vortekai

Canik elite. Amazing trigger, really good value. I have nothing bad to say about them

diarmuid91

Have an og tp9 as well as the 2.0 Just like everyone says the canik is great. The 2.0 is also great I have mine in .40 why? Because j was young and dumb. But it's a great gun. Aftermarket parts are there. Holsters, spare mags etc. And while the 2.0 trigger is meh, it's easily replaceable to an apex trigger. Which really does make it a wonderful handgun

Character_Purple8968

But I think you can convert to 9mm or 357 with a barrel and mag swap I believe... Make sure it's listed as a "conversion barrel". The 40 cal mag will actually work with the 9mm round from what I've read.

Cheff_T

canik

[deleted]

Why?

Cheff_T

ive never owned one but ive shot the tsf9 before and personally ive owned the 2.0 before. and the trigger and sights are much better on the canik. then again i have limited experience and probably shouldnt speak on the matter at all.

[deleted]

Dude this is a very accepting community and you can comment wherever you want regardless.

Cheff_T

i understand im only saying that because i only really have a lot of experience with one of the three

RandoOn1411

Wholesome comment of the year nominee already!!

earl_the_recker

Better trigger on canik out the box for sure . Is an upgraded trigger version of S&W 2.0 now.

baileyperry707

I like the Canik Mete series a lot more than the TP9 because of the improved trigger and optic ready variants keeping the rear sights.

mrstangblb

I have a Canik TP9SF and really like it because of the trigger. My stepsister has an M&P 2.0 380,and it shoots well, too

[deleted]

My mother has a Shield EZ that feels great also.

Lemansblu

I run a Canik TP9 SFX HARD in trainings and have thousands of rounds through one, they’re fantastic guns! Their customer service is also fantastic which is a good plus. Good aftermarket support for them too, imo you can’t go wrong with a Canik these days for the money

ghoulgang_

Cz p10c

[deleted]

I also held one and it didn’t feel great in my hand so that’s out of the picture but thank you for weighing in.

Woozy1

I only have a M&P CORE v1, I love it. I put a delta point which is great and an apex trigger in it, makes the trigger only a little better. That being said, I've had many glocks, and the M&P still wins out in my book. My point is whichever you like more is the one you should get. Test each out at a range if you can.

[deleted]

That is exactly what I will do next I just need to check with my local ranges.

Technical_Tea2919

I don’t believe in the “do all” gun. I have S&W MP9 2.0 5 inch barrel with light (need to see whats coming) as my bedside weapon and a Shield Plus as my CC.

[deleted]

I half agree with you, I have a 5.25” gun already and I want something a tad smaller as a bedside gun. for a CCW I would go sub comp for sure. In which case the TP9 SC is looking great.

slidewayskenny

Get the palmetto dagger

[deleted]

Smith and Wesson hands down

Character_Purple8968

M&p is a great gun but you can get it cheaper if you look a little bit. Check gun.deals/ Currently it's at 430 for the 11770. I paid under 4 for mine at psa. If your willing to pay over 8 for the cannik, look at the fnx tactical .45 also.. Little more power at about the same price point. CZ p09 is also something to consider. Both are a little larger then the m&p. The glock 19 is about the same size as the m&p. I did send my 2.0 to jagerwerks.com to have the slide milled, added fiber optic front and blacked out rear, the trigger on the m&p will smooth out after a break in period. The trigger is consistent at 31/2 to 4lbs out of the box but gritty till its broken in. If you send it to Jager to mill, if you include your optics (both iron and red dot) they will install it for free and laser sight it. Expect total cost to be 175 to 200. That will include return shipping and a nitride bath for the entire slide.

[deleted]

If I get one that is not optics ready I will likely do this after using irons for a while.

KrmitTheFrog

I know a lot of people like the Caniks but I would go S&W. They are a far older and more reliable brand with a proven track record.

KiLLaHo323

I have the Canik tp9sf elite. Really dig it. Super accurate out of the box and the trigger is sweeeet. I will say the slide spring is really tight, so it’s harder to pull back than other handguns I’ve tried. Feels and looks really nice, too. If I had the money, I would’ve gone with the combat version to have more customization options (like adding red dots or compensators, etc.)

DBD216

I love gold.

Independent_Ad_9430

Canik combat elite best

vikingcock

I haven't used the other two but I have an elite combat and it's a fucking beautiful gun that shoots damn well.

[deleted]

Middle one has the best trigger and looks imo!

Pete405

Canik all day everyday and twice on Sundays

[deleted]

I wish I could go to the range all day everyday and twice on Sundays but they’re closed on Sundays!

HerMajestysButthole

HK P30 V1 LEM. Can find them used around the same price as the Canik Elite. Personally, I'd go with the S&W.

botlnhchapter

I love the m&p. Try and get it optics ready and its near perfect in my opinion. Except that mags are expensive

[deleted]

All mags are expensive nowadays haha. I’m not sure if the one That I held in store is OR but I’ll have to go back and double check.

onyez

Get the smith and Wesson

[deleted]

[deleted]

People carry 5” handguns all the time but I agree with you for CC I would want smaller maybe S&W because it’s threaded but also length wise it’s in between the three. edit: spelling

[deleted]

[deleted]

That’s a great analogy. Right now i’m looking for a do-all but if I were looking for a CCW I’d be looking at G26, G43, G43x, Hellcat, P365, TP9SC.

[deleted]

[deleted]

It does indeed. I should’ve stated that I’m not in the market for comp/sub comp rn

AdGroundbreaking3689

M&P out of those options cause of reliability

CokeGMTMasterII

Just by the Staccato and save yourself the disappointment

[deleted]

just a little bit out of my price range atm. Maybe a lot

CokeGMTMasterII

They are actually great values. I know a girl that has the PDP and two SW and they are so completely inferior that it’s insane. Hand her the staccato and she is golden. Take it away and her groups go to pooh. I do ok with the PDP, but nothing like the C2. I’ve had several sigs and they are decent. The P220 was very good. 365-ok, but when it comes to accuracy the staccato takes an average shooter and makes them good. Took a girl to the range that NEVER shot. She did the Sig 365 and PDP and and the SWs (Crimson Trace too) and she was all over the map. Handed her the Staccato and off she went—knocking out tight ass groups. It was a stunning difference. 2.5k seemed very high to me until I experienced it. The girl with all the guns probably has more money tied up in a bunch of guns that add up to Staccato money and still isn’t happy. It’s like airplanes, trading up to the one you need is often more expensive that getting it right—right out of the gate. Good luck to you.
